IND vs SL: India suffered their first defeat in the Asia Cup 2023 as they lost to Bangladesh in the dead rubber game. They didn’t bat well apart from Shubman Gill as they failed to chase the target of 266 runs but this would serve as a great eye-opener ahead of the final against Sri Lanka. Although India gave opportunities to players on the bench but their performance wasn’t up to the mark.
IND vs SL: Shubman Gill slams a magnificent ton against Bangladesh
Amid the disappointment with the bat, young Shubman Gill was the shining light for the Indian team against Bangladesh. The opening batter took the cricketing world by storm as he smashed all the bowlers all over the park.
Shubman Gill smashed a staggering century and was the lone warrior for his team. The right-hander played a dominating brand of cricket as he played from crips shots, keeping his side in the hunt despite no support from the other end. Throughout his innings, he relied on his timing and found the gaps perfectly.
Shubman Gill scored 121 runs off 133 balls. He batted with a strike rate of 90.98 and also smashed 8 fours and 5 sixes in his innings. He looked all set to finish the game for his team but unfortunately couldn’t time the ball and got out in the 44th over.
Shubman Gill smashing century on the difficult track will be one of the biggest positives for India going into the ICC World Cup 2023. His knock was even lauded by Indian skipper Rohit Sharma, who said:
“Gill’s hundred was brilliant. He backs his game, he knows exactly how he wants to play. Pretty clear on what he wants to do for the team. Look at his form over the last year. Pretty solid against the new ball. Works really hard, there’s no optional practice for Gill.”
