IND vs WI: Rohit Sharma-led team India has begun its brand new cycle of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) with a rounding victory against West Indies. India defeated West Indies by an innings and 141 runs in Dominica and embarked on a new WTC journey on a high. With a commanding win in the first test, India is set to make big changes in India vs West Indies 2nd test playing11.
India sealed a comprehensive victory riding on the back of debutant Yashasvi Jaiswal’s elegant 171-run knock followed by high-class bowling exploits by seasoned spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, who scalped seven wickets in the 2nd innings and 12 overall.
During the post-match presentation, the Indian captain was all praises for Yashasvi Jaiswal, who at no point in his innings looked worried or uncomfortable with the opposition and helped team India muster a big total.
“He has the talent, he has shown us in the past that he is ready. Came and batted sensibly. The temperament was also tested, at no stage he was panicking,” said Rohit Sharma following the win in Dominica.
Jaiswal was adjudged ‘Player of the Match’ for his sublime innings of 171 runs in 387 deliveries with the help of 16 boundaries and a six.
Further in the presentation, Rohit Sharma also hinted at the possible changes the team could make in the forthcoming test match against West Indies in Trinidad.
“Important to start well, now about taking that momentum into the 2nd Test. There are a couple of new guys and people who haven’t had much Test cricket, so just about getting them out on the field now,” said the Indian skipper.
Interestingly, the Indian management would be keen on handing debuts to Ruturaj Gaikwad and Mukesh Kumar as well following the maiden appearances of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ishan Kishan in the IND vs WI 1st test. Meanwhile, pacer Navdeep Saini, who hasn’t had a lot of test cricket in the recent past, would also be in line to get some game time. However, it remains to be seen who goes out of India’s playing11 to accommodate the aforementioned players.
Notably, Navdeep Saini’s last test appearance came back in 2021 when he joined the party of fringe Indian bowlers who broke the back of Australia’s fortress Gaba in the famous Border Gavaskar Trophy 2020-21.
It remains to be seen who gets a sack from the Indian playing11 for the 2nd test, which begins on July 20th at the Queen’s Park Oval, Port of Spain, Trinidad.
