IND vs WI: Indian players to report at the NCA before the West Indies tour: Ahead of the India tour of West Indies 2023, some of the top Indian centrally contracted players have reported at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru to have a check at their fitness levels before they board a plane for the Caribbean tour.

Ishan Kishan and several others will undergo strength and conditioning related at the National Cricket Academy (NCA). The centrally contracted and BCCI targetted players, usually, pay a visit to the NCA when they get time between the two tours.

Team India has received a month gap before they regroup for the West Indies tour, which comprises two Tests, three ODIs and five T20Is. The India tour of the West Indies is scheduled to commence on July 12 with the two-match test series in Dominica. The two sides will then take part in the ODIs followed by five T20Is.

Notably, the first three T20Is will be held in West Indies itself, while the last two games of the tour will be staged in Florida, USA.

It is noteworthy that wicketkeeper batter Ishan Kishan could have played the Duleep Trophy, which starts on July 28, however, the southpaw has chosen to take part in the fitness camp at the NCA.

East Zone is set to lock horns against Central Zone in the first quarter-final of the Duleep Trophy in Bengaluru’s Alur. Had Ishan Kishan played the game and scored a few runs, he could have pushed his case for the wicketkeeper’s role in the Indian test side.

With KS Bharat, who donned the gloves during the WTC 2023 Final, looking sore with his batting prowesses, Ishan could have gone a step ahead of his compatriot with the one-off test opportunity in Duleep Trophy.

“Ishan has been a part of the Indian team on a regular basis since last December and took a short break upon arrival from England after the World Test Championship final,” a source close to the cricketer said on Saturday.

“He will check into the NCA in the early days of the next week and focus on his training and preparations for the West Indies tour which he is expected to be a part of,” the source added.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is yet to announce India’s squad for the West Indies series. Reports indicate that the Indian cricket board will reveal the squads on June 27.
