IND vs WI: Rohit Sharma refuse to speak on Virat Kohli’s test ton: Indian captain Rohit Sharma was left irked during the recent conversation when one of the reporters had asked his views on the importance of players like Virat Kohli, who had just scored his 76th international ton in West Indies. Sharma, who believes that he had answered this query a million times before, gave a blunt reply to the reporter saying that the team doesn’t care about the outside noise.
Former Indian captain Virat Kohli notched up his 76th century during the IND vs WI 2nd Test in Trinidad after he missed out on his ton in the first test which saw him score a fine 76 runs in Dominica. Apparently, Virat Kohli’s test ton against West Indies also happens to be his first three-figure milestone outside India in the last five years.
His previous overseas test century had come against Australia back in 2018 when he racked up a score of 121 runs in Perth, the innings which was curtailed by a run-out.
Riding on the back of Virat Kohli’s prolific innings in both test matches along with the contributions of other players, India sealed the two-match Test series by 1-nil against West Indies. While India managed to put the stamp of its authority in the first test, which was held in Dominica, the second test was cut short by rain on day five, which eventually lead to a draw.
Now, the focus will shift towards the shorter formats of the game, as India looks to fine-tune its preparations for the impending ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. India’s run until the World Cup begins today (27th July) with IND vs WI 1st ODI in Barbados.
IND vs WI: Rohit Sharma irked with reporter’s query on Virat’s test ton
Ahead of the fixture, which is currently underway, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma was asked about his thoughts on Virat Kohli’s ton and the importance of it as he being one of the senior players in the team. Irked by the question, Sharma bluntly replied, “I’ve answered this question a lot of times.”
Sharma added that whatever noise brews up on the outside world remains isolated as that’s of no value for the cricketers.
“All the outside talk, who scored how many, took how many wickets… people who say such things don’t know what happens inside. For us, what happens inside stays inside. We prefer that. For us, the most important is to win matches, not who’s talking about what. It doesn’t matter to us,” Rohit Sharma said in the press conference ahead of IND vs WI 1st ODI.
The 36-year-old cricketer mentioned that his team’s primary responsibility here is to win the three-match ODI series and the team would focus on that only.
“Our priority is the three ODI matches right now, we’re focussing on that,” he further said.
The three-match IND vs WI ODI series starts in Barbados on July 27. The action will continue in Barbados in the 2nd ODI and for the final game of the series, both teams will head to Trinidad.
