India vs England 1st Test: England thrashed India by 227 runs on Day 5.

India vs England 1st Test: James Anderson traps Indian batsman into his reverse swing to power England to a comprehensive 227 runs win in the first of the four-game test series at Chennai.

After India bowled out England for 178 runs in the third innings of the test match, England gave India a daunting 420 runs total to win the game in just one day.  England bowled out India for mere 192 runs at 2nd Session to win the game convincingly.

Rohit Sharma once again failed to give a good start to India as he departed after scoring 12 runs on day 4.

On day 5 Virat Kohli played as a lone warrior and scored 72 runs to reach close to the total. However, this was not enough as England bowlers cleaned the Indian batsmen from the other end.

Apart from Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli, no other could hold the crease as India slipped from 92 for 3 to 171 for 7.

“I don’t think we put enough pressure on them with the ball in the first half…credit to England, they got stuck in and put up a big total on the board,” Kohli conceded in the post-match presentation.

James Anderson during his second spell before the lunch did miracles for the Englishmen. Anderson cleaned Shubman Gill and Ajinkya Rahane in the course of 4 balls to send India to complete backfoot.

With the win, England took the lead of 1-0 and climbs to the top of ICC World Test Championship points table with 70.2 winning percentage. India slipped down to number 4 as their winning rate decreases to 68.3.

Now India needs to win two back to back games in the next three to qualify for the final berth of ICC World Test Championship.

England skipper Joe Root was awarded as the Player of the Match for his fine double century.
