India vs England: Our bench strength is strong says, Virat Kohli.

India vs England: Indian skipper Virat Kohli is extremely delighted with the kind of bench strength India has. With many young players putting their best foot forward, India managed to win the tournament in home and overseas conditions. Kohli said India will have a smooth transition a few years down the line with such players.

In the last two test series against Australia and England, many young Indian cricketers were given chances in the playing 11 and most of them have grabbed it with both hands open. Players like, Washington Sundar, Mohammad Siraj, Axar Patel and Rishabh Pant India managed to put up pressure on the opposition and win the game by an innings and 25 runs.

“The comeback in Chennai pleased me the most. The first game was an aberration and England outplayed us. The toss played a crucial role and the bowlers weren’t in the contest. We bowled and fielded with more intensity and so the comeback was very heartening,” Kohli said at the post-match presentation.

“The bench of Indian cricket is very strong and they won’t let the standards of test cricket go down. In this game, Rishabh Pant and Washington Sundar showed us the same.”

After a humiliating defeat in the opener, India picked up the momentum and went on to win three games back to back.

“We had to be confident in what we are doing. The team braced up for the second test and bounced back hardly. In International cricket, every side is quality and one has to put up goof efforts to defeat whether it is in home conditions or away conditions.”

Rohit Sharma and Ravi Ashwin’s role:

Rohit Sharma played a defining knock of 161 runs in the second test to put India in a comfortable position against the rank turners. While Ashwin did the usual job to nitpick the English batsmen one by one.

“Rohit’s knock was the defining moment in Chennai, and Ashwin has been our most bankable player over the years so they have been our best players this series.

“Now we can accept that the World Test Championship final, which was a distraction in New Zealand in 2020, but now it’s a reality,” Kohli said.
