India vs England: Umesh Yadav to undergo a fitness test in two days.

India vs England: India’s senior pacer Umesh Yadav is all set to undergo a fitness test in two days time to prove himself fit for the upcoming pink-ball Test at Ahmedabad. If Umesh clears the test, he will straight join the other two pacers Jasprit Bumrah and Ishant Sharma at Ahmedabad for the Day/Night Test against England. The third test between India and England will be played at the newly refurbished Motera Stadium on 24th February.

Indian management wants to play to its full strength on the Day/Night test and wants the senior pacer to be fit for the test. If the surface at Motera appears to be a rank-turner then Ashwin and Axar Patel are ready to exploit the conditions.

Both the spinners, Ashwin and Axar Patel picked 15 wickets out of 20 in the second test against England at Chennai and the management wants them to play further also. India could also include a third pacer into the lot if the surface offers some swing under the light and in this case, Kuldeep Yadav may get dropped from the side.

Jasprit Bumrah was given rest in the second test and he will come up and play the test match. There will be a toss-up between Mohammad Siraj and Umesh Yadav for the slot of the third pacer in the team.

Umesh Yadav’s Fitness Test:

“Umesh’s fitness test will happen in a couple of days time,” a senior BCCI official told PTI on Friday.

The senior Indian pacer, Umesh Yadav was ruled out after he sustained a calf injury in Melbourne during the second test against Australia last December.

“Look, it doesn’t matter if the ball is red or pink. If you keep a dry wicket, the ball will turn and extra lacquer won’t be of any consequence,” a former India spinner said when asked for his opinion.

“However, if there is dew then obviously the ball will start skidding and it might just be good for batting. So that can’t be discounted,” he said.

Umesh Yadav has been effective on the Indian surfaces and was part of the team when India played its first Day/Night Test match at Eden Gardens against Bangladesh.
