India vs England: English skipper Joe Root says they need to be in their top game in order to defeat India in their own soil. Even though we have got a clean sweep against Sri Lanka but challenge against India is something much higher and their players are in the top-notch form.
Ahead of the Test series against India, Joe Root reckons India to be the best team in the world in their home conditions.
Root led his side from the front setting an example for the younger. He played two blistering innings of 228 and 186 runs in the first and second test respectively. Root says he is eagerly waiting to play against India in India.
“We’ve got four very important games against arguably the best team in the world in their own conditions,” Root said after the second Test against Sri Lanka.
“We will have to play our best game against them. They are the quality opposition and given their home conditions they become even more deadly,” Root added.
England and India will be undergoing a six days quarantine rules before stepping out for the training.
Root said the confidence they have got after win against Sri Lanka will help them to tackle the challenge of mighty Indians.
“We have got sever or eight days of no cricket. Six days quarantine and then some days of preparations for the upcoming series.”
“We have got a huge amount of confidence after winning those two games and looking forward to carrying the momentum against India as well.”
England team has done progress in excelling in away conditions: Joe Root
English skipper says the side has done tremendous work in learning the away conditions. That’s why they have been successful against Sri Lanka.
“Yeah, there is obviouslya progress. We have struggled in past adapting the conditions away from home but we have picked a right pace. We are playing good cricket in foreign soil so it is a good sign for us.”
“To defeat India in India, taking 20 wickets constantly will help us. If we can get those 20 wickets and we are able to put up a good score on board, we will defeat India. We have to stay hungry for our stuff throughout the series.”
Root is delighted to welcome key components of the test squad.
“Ya, we need our best players out in India. Very happy to welcome Ben Stokes and Jofra Archer. They can come instrumental in winning the games in India.”
