Women’s Asia Cup 2024 Schedule: The Asian Cricket Council (ACC)-led by Jay Shah has announced the schedules for the Women’s Asia Cup 2024, which is slated to be held between July 19 and 28 in Sri Lanka’s Dambulla.
Team India is set to play Pakistan on the opening day of the Women’s Asia Cup 2024 in Dambulla, though, it will be an evening fixture. The same afternoon on July 19 in Dambulla will see an opening clash between UAE and Nepal.
All the teams will play three games in the group stage and the top two teams of each group will proceed to the semi-finals. Unlike the last edition where teams played each other once, with no groups, this time around, the ACC has formed two groups of four teams each.
Group A features India, Pakistan, UAE and Nepal, while the other group has Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Malaysia and Thailand.
Notably, the Women’s Asia Cup 2024 becomes crucial and key to the preparation of Asian teams as the tournament is immediately followed by the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 in Bangladesh. The World Cup will be held between October 3 and 20.
Team India remains the most successful side in the Women’s Asia Cup with as many as seven titles to their name. India is also the defending champion of the tournament, having defeated Sri Lanka in the 2022 final, and will begin their title defence on July 19.
It’s noteworthy that the fresh Women’s Asia Cup 2024 schedule has come after a bit of tweaks to the original schedule. The original schedule had Nepal vs Pakistan as the opening game of the tournament with India taking on UAE on the same day.
The fixtures – India vs Pakistan and Nepal vs UAE – were originally scheduled to be held on July 21, however, as per the latest schedule, the aforementioned fixtures will mark the beginning of the Women’s Asia Cup 2024.
All the fixtures will be held in Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium, Dambulla, Sri Lanka. The afternoon matches will begin at 2 PM IST and the evening matches will begin at the usual 7 PM.
