India versus Pakistan matches are always a treat to watch. These games have players playing to the fullest. India vs. Pakistan is also a great game to watch as the two countries have an arch rivalry. With that being said, rivalries and intensity are shown on the field too at times. The passion with which every player plays the game is very high. The charisma is visible. Here is a look at the top 3 India vs. Pakistan games at the ICC T20 World Cup over the years:
2016 India VS Pakistan, Eden Gardens:
The 2016 India vs. Pakistan game was a low-scoring thriller. More importantly, it was a big contest between the returning Mohammed Amir and Virat Kohli in his prime. The battle had once unfolded at the Asia Cup before the World Cup, but this was the first time this battle was going to take place on the global stage. Mohammed Sami came up with an out-of-syllabus question for the Indian batters. This India vs. Pakistan game was ruled by pacers.
After wrapping up Pakistan for 118 by using the slow choke method, the Indian batters came to bat. Mohammad Sami and Mohammad Amir’s first spells left India in tatters at 23/3. But Yuvraj and Kohli joined forces to rescue the Indian team. Virat was the man of the match for his unbeaten 55.
2007 India VS Pakistan Group Stage Game, Durban:
The first-ever T20 World Cup saw the two teams square off twice. His first game was in the group stage, and it was a thriller, to say the least. The game ended in a tie, and we were able to witness the first-ever bowl out on the global stage. The game began with Mohammad Asif getting rid of all the top Indian batters. The young gun, Robin Uthappa, came to the rescue, scoring a valiant 50. He took India to a respectable 141!
Pakistan, on the other hand, had a steady start, but the rain breaks made sure that they never got any momentum. The last ball saw them require 1 run, and they managed to scamper through, but it was a run-out at the non-striker’s end.
The game went into a bowl. India asked all its non-regular bowlers to take a hit at the stumps. The likes of Sehwag and Robin Uthappa were a part of the plan. Because of their slow pace, they could take a break at the stumps. On the other hand, the Pakistani bowlers couldn’t hit the stump once. India was declared the winner on the basis of the bowl-out.
2007 T20 World Cup Final, Johannesburg:
This is one of the best games in the history of the T20 format. Why did Misbah play that shot? The game was in the Pakistanis’ hands if it were not for Misbah to play that shot! And what if Sreesanth dropped that catch? Eventually, all things fell into place, and eventually, India lifted the World Cup. The Indian team was sent to bat. Gautam Gambhir was the lone warrior for India this time, as Umar Gul was in his prime.
Gambhir scored a well-fought 75. Rohit Sharma also scored an 18-ball 30. These contributions took the Indian team to an above-average score. RP Singh and Irfan Pathan then took their chances with the ball. They swung it wickedly and bought India back into the game. Joginder Sharma sealed the deal in the last over for the Indian cricket team.
