IND vs NZ: After Day 1 being washed out, New Zealand pacers wreaked havoc at the Chinnaswamy Stadium under overcast conditions on the morning session of Day 2.
India is playing their final home series against the visiting New Zealand side, as the 3-match test series will begin on the 16th of October with the last match scheduled to end on the 5th of November. The scheduled venues will include Chinnaswamy Stadium, MCA Stadium in Pune, and the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
The first test was to begin on Wednesday, but owing to overcast conditions, the day was washed out due to rain. Day 2 had fair weather to begin the game, as India won the toss and elected to bat at Bengaluru.
Coming to bat first, skipper Rohit Sharma again stepped onto the field alongside young sensation Jaiswal. This time nothing went sensational for the two openers, as Rohit was the first one to be dismissed for just 2-runs.
While fans seemed excited by Virat Kohli’s entry at No. 3, a new role in the absence of Shubman Gill. However, even the likes of batters Kohli, Sarfaraz, KL Rahul, and Jadeja all went back to the pavilion for a duck.
A humiliating performance from the Indian side, as they were reduced to a trembling 31/7, with Rishabh Pant being their highest scorer with just 20 runs added by the wicketkeeper batter. India is all-out for 46 runs, with Matt Henry picking a 5-fer and Will O’Rourke also picking 4 wickets, thus reducing India to a below-50 score for the first time since 2020.
India, with this, has registered an unwanted record for themselves, as they become the only team among the full-member Test-playing nations of the ICC to have scored less than 50 runs for the second time in the history of the WTC.
India has had this disgusting record with a below-50 score against Australia in Adelaide back in 2020; this was India’s first humiliating total in the history of the WTC. Following this, they have now registered another below-50 score in the history of the World Test Championship. This is India’s lowest-ever Test score in India.
Danger looms over the Indian team, as they might not have the most desired start to their final home campaign as they near a humiliating loss.

Former South African speedster Dale Steyn, who was a part of the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the 2024 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2024) as their bowling-coach on Thursday, 17th of October, announced his decision of stepping-down from the post ahead of IPL 2025 on his X handle.
The 41-year-old, who represented the likes of Gujarat Lions (now-defunct), Sunrisers Hyderabad, Deccan Chargers (now-defunct) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru as a player before opting to become the bowling-coach of the Hyderabad based franchise, said that he won’t be coming back to India for the upcoming edition of the cash-rich T20 league but he will continue to represent the sister-franchise of SRH, two time winners Sunrisers Eastern Cape in SA20, the t20 league of South Africa and help them in lifting the trophy for the third successive time.
“I would want to express my gratitude to Sunrisers Hyderabad for the few years I worked there as their bowling coach during the IPL, but I will not be returning for the 2025 edition of the tournament. But here in South Africa, I will still be working with Sunrisers Eastern Cape in the SA20. Steyn tweeted, “We’ve won the SA20 twice; let’s try for three in a row.”
The former legendary South African seamer was appointed as the bowling-coach of the Hyderabad based franchise in December of 2021, and he represented the franchise in that role for three seasons. Under his guidance, players such as Umran Malik flourished in the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League as the J&K pacer picked up 22 scalps in 14 games and he also got the opportunity to represent India in International-Cricket.
In the previous edition of the IPL, Steyn worked with ODI World Cup winning Australian captain Pat Cummins, who was also appointed as the skipper of the 2016 IPL winners after being picked up in the 2024 auction for a humongous price tag of 20.50 crore Indian rupees.
Captain Pat Cummins, Abhishek Sharma & Heinrich Klassen set to be retained in the IPL 2025 Mega-Auction
Indian Batting All-rounder Abhishek Sharma, hard-hitting wicketkeeper-batsman Heinrich Klassen, and captain Pat Cummins are all expected to stay with Sunrisers Hyderabad, the IPL 2016 winners and 2024 runners-up. Heinrich will be the Hyderabad-based team’s top retention pick for an incredible 23 crore Indian Rupees, while Cummins will be the second pick for 18 crore rupees, according to ESPNCRICINFO.
At a price tag of 14 crore-rupees, spin bowling all-rounder Abhishek Sharma will also be retained. In addition to these three players, Indian All-rounder Nitish Reddy and Travis Head, Australia’s clutch opening batter, are probably going to stay with the team.
Recent reports from ESPNcricinfo suggest the likes of Australian skipper Pat Cummins, Protea wicketkeeper-batsman Heinrich Klaasen, and Abhishek Sharma to be retained by SRH for their IPL 2025 campaign.
One of the top priority retentions, Heinrich Klaasen, is often considered to be paying off a whopping amount of INR 23 crore, while Aussie all-rounder Pat Cummins will remain their second major retention, ranging up to INR 18 crore.
However, Cummins might be seen as the captain of the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the upcoming season as well. At the same time, Abhishek Sharma can be taken into the side for a huge sum of INR 14 crore.
Klaasen smacked a staggering 479 runs at a strike rate of 171.07, which was the third-highest total scored for SRH after Head and Abhishek. Abhishek Sharma also backed with 484 runs, while Travis Head was their arguably the best batter, having scored 567 runs in the season.
But what took Abhishek and Head into the limelight was their great strike rate, which was 204.21 and 191.55 for the batters, respectively.
Future of Travis Head and Nitish Kumar Reddy in the SRH camp
With the likely speculations of these three players being retained, three heavyweight campaigners from the SRH campaign look dumped.
The latest SRH management has overlooked the likes of their best performer from last season, Travis Head, rising Indian all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy, and Sunrisers veteran Bhuvneshwar Kumar.
Coming to Head, every man related to the game is aware of his sparkling form since the World Cup in India in 2023. Head has surpassed the likes of Indian T20I skipper Suryakumar Yadav to be named the ICC No. 1 ranked World T20 batter. Head made some amazing records this year in international T20s and was also nominated for the Player of the Month for September.
NK Reddy, who made his debut against Bangladesh, will now not be retained as an uncapped player, and hence his retention would cost them a lot. Yet Reddy is a powerhouse of talent, and franchises will be looming at him.
Bhuvneshwar, on the other hand, stands as their best performer for several seasons, as the Indian maestro has been a multiple times Purple Cap winner, though, at the back of just one bad season, SRH is seemingly not looking to have him retained for the upcoming season.

South Africa also advanced to the round of four after eliminating England, who had been leading the table going into their loss to the West Indies in the tournament’s final league match.England finished worse than South Africa and the West Indies due to their lower Net-Run-Rate (NRR) on the points table after losing six wickets with two.

IND vs NZ: The World Test Championship’s latest cycle, which started back at the end of the WTC back in 2023, where India lost their second consecutive final against Australia, has now reached its nearing end.
This time around in the WTC, only four of the top nine teams have their chances of reaching the final; still, many of the teams are eager to improve their performances in the competition. Currently, India, the two-time WTC finalist, is at the top of the points table; however, the real parameter of qualification, the PCT of India, is way ahead of its competitors.
Australia are currently the most likely team to make it to the WTC final, as they would be in the quest to defend their WTC title in 2025 at Lord’s. Teams like New Zealand, the first-ever winners of the WTC, as well as Sri Lanka and South Africa, are also in the quest to make it to their debut WTC final.
Let’s take a look at how every team can qualify for the WTC final:
India: India would still have the best possible PCT in the WTC points table; even if they lose the Border-Gavaskar Trophy by a margin of 3-1 to Australia after having won the New Zealand series by 3-0, they can go ahead into the WTC final with a healthy PCT of 65.78%.
Doors for any other team mostly open when Australia can have a clean sweep over Indians in the BGT, which sees a major drop in PCT while opening the gates for Sri Lanka. So India’s qualification chances are entirely dependent on at least a single win in the BGT.
Australia: The defending champions are not in the most comfortable position like India is, though they are yet to feature in 7-red ball matches under home as well as overseas conditions.
Their qualification chances are based on a win in the BGT with a margin of 3-1; at least if they draw the series with a 2-2 and can couple it with a 2-0 win over Sri Lanka, then they would still have chances to advance to the finals with some other results going in their favour.
However, if they result in draws in the BGT as well as the draw against Sri Lanka, it would hand them a major drop in PCT, and hence the likes of the next three following teams in the list would fancy their chances in the WTC.
Sri Lanka: Sri Lanka would first face the Proteas in the longest format of the game, and if they lose, they can end their hopes in the WTC. So only after a win against South Africa can they fancy their chances, while a draw that is backed with a whitewash over Australia can hand them some chances into the WTC final.
South Africa: If South Africa loses even one of their remaining matches, then they would depend on other teams to make it into the WTC final. If South Africa can manage to win only 4 of the 6 games, then they can easily be considered knocked off.
New Zealand: New Zealand cannot look to have any further losses in the WTC, as they can proceed only with clean sweeps in their next series that would follow. Even a draw against India can send the Blackcaps home since a whitewash against England would not be able to save them.
IND vs NZ 1st Test: The New Zealand cricket team is in India and the two nations are going to bout in the first Test at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru from 16 October 2024. In this post, we predict India Strongest Playing11 for the IND vs NZ 1st Test.
JUMP TO:
The first test of the New Zealand tour of India 2024 is going to be played in Bengaluru and two teams are all set alongside a burden of some injuries. India in India are almost undefeatable and New Zealand would have planned better as per the conditions.
The bad news for the teams and fans is that there is rain prediction on all five days of the test match. With important World Test Championship points at stake, the two teams would be hoping to have a full Test to force a result in their favor.
After suffering a 2-0 defeat against Sri Lanka and undergoing a change in captaincy, New Zealand faces a number of challenges beyond just their inexperienced bowling attack, particularly in the absence of star player Kane Williamson. As they prepare for what is arguably the toughest test in cricket right now, New Zealand will need to gather all the confidence they can from various sources.
Playing India on their home turf presents a formidable, all-encompassing challenge like no other in world cricket today. India is strong across all departments, combining both form and experience. What makes the challenge even greater is the potential for further improvement from a few of India’s key batters, making an already difficult task even more daunting for the visitors.
Let’s take a look at the India Strongest Playing11 For 1st Test against New Zealand Prediction:
India Strongest Playing11 For IND vs NZ 1st Test Prediction
With Gautam Gambhir in the dressing room of India, expect more of the left-hand right-hand combinations starting with the opening pair of Skipper Rohit Sharma and young talent Yashasvi Jaiswal.
Shubman Gill is given the charge of holding number three and he is trying his best to accommodate that position with Virat Kohli to follow at number four.
KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant are the two of the best middle-order batters and they will be playing as per the team’s requirements. Rishabh Pant become the key player in this stage and his position in the batting order remains uncertain as he plays the ‘key middle-order player’ role in the order.
The spin duo of Ravindra Jadeja and Ravi Chandran Ashwin is there with their seats cemented and Axar or Kuldeep will join them in the spin attack. India prepared quick surfaces for Bangladesh but New Zealand might face a turning track.
Mohammed Siraj and Jaspret Bumrah will take the charges of the pace department and this looks strong team.
IND vs NZ: India is already at the Chinnaswamy Stadium practising and toiling themselves hard for the upcoming final test series at home against the Kiwis. The New Zealand team has been on an extended tour to the sub-continent since they arrived to play the one-off test against Afghanistan at the Greater Noida Sports Complex.
The Indians will host New Zealand for a three-match test series in the longest format of the game, as the first test is to begin on the 16th of October and is scheduled to be played at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore.
The Indian test side has not seen a major change in their squad from the previous home series played against Bangladesh, as only the likes of Indian pacer Yash Dayal have been dropped from the side, while Sarfaraz Khan has been included. There are high chances of many of these players excelling in the format to head to Australia as well.
IND vs NZ: Full Squads
Team India: Rohit Sharma (c), Jasprit Bumrah (vc), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, KL Rahul, Sarfaraz Khan, Rishabh Pant (wk), Dhruv Jurel (wk), Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Siraj, Akash Deep
Team New Zealand: Devon Conway, Kane Williamson, Michael Bracewell, Mitchell Santner, Rachin Ravindra, Mark Chapman, Will Young, Daryl Mitchell, Tom Latham, Glenn Phillips, Tom Blundell, Ajaz Patel, Ben Sears, Matt Henry, Tim Southee, William O’Rourke.
IND vs NZ: Live Streaming details
The three test matches are to be played against New Zealand by India from the 16th of October to the final match ending on the 5th of November. All matches will be streamed live on the Jio Cinema App.
IND vs NZ: Possible Playing 11
India is one of the most prominent teams in international cricket in the longest format against New Zealand, as the Men in Blue have been the most dominant side with 22 wins as compared to 13 wins in their 62 appearances against their opponents the Blackcaps.
India will be led by veteran skipper Rohit Sharma, while Jasprit Bumrah will be seen as his deputy for the upcoming series. The first of the matches might feature the likes of Sarfaraz Khan while others would be based on the recent performances in the first test.
India Playing 11: Rohit Sharma [C], Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Sarfaraz Khan, Rishabh Pant, Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin, Axar Patel, Jasprit Bumrah, Akash Deep.
Kiwis have to overcome a dominating loss against the Lankan players, as they faced severe humiliation in their losses after their one-off test was washed off due to rain in Noida. After Southee stepped down from the role of New Zealand skipper, Latham will be seen as their full-time skipper for red-ball and this will be his first major assignment.
New Zealand Playing 11:Devon Conway, Tom Latham [C], Kane Williamson, Michael Bracewell, Rachin Ravindra, Daryl Mitchell, Glenn Phillips, Tom Blundell, Ajaz Patel, Tim Southee, William O’Rourke.
India faced such an unforeseen situation in the second test against Bangladesh at Kanpur, as several days of cricketing action were washed away due to rain. With similar conditions of heavy rainfall currently at the Chinnaswamy, the danger of a game being washed away looms over Team India as well as the Kiwis who have already faced the toil of rainfall.
IND vs NZ: Winner Prediction
The hosts owing to their dominant form and top-notch performances in red-ball cricket will remain the favourites under home conditions, while the disgusting record of the visitors is a big reason to worry as well.
Pakistan Cricket Team: Pakistan Cricket is in a serious crisis! A country known for producing the World’s fastest bowler, a country introducing the reverse swing in cricket, a country of Wasim Akram, Inzamam-ul-Haq, and many more legends is starving for a home series win!
Table of Contents
In recent years, the Pakistan Cricket Team has posed challenges to some of the big names in the cricket world. However, that all came in the white ball cricket rather than in red ball cricket. In the last 34 months, Pakistan have only managed to win three test matches out of seventeen and that against Sri Lanka.
Most recently, they lost a test series against Bangladesh at home for the first time in history. This was arguably the lowest of Pakistan Cricket that they lost a home test series to Bangladesh.
There are a couple of boxes of concern in the management and a couple of boxes in the players’ form. Let’s take a look at the points of concern of Pakistan Cricket’s downfall:
Unsettled Pakistan Cricket Board and Management
The PCB is quite popular in the cricketing world, not for ideally good reasons. The PCB chairmen keep changing, the management group keeps shuffling and this heavily impacts the ideology of the team.
The changes from chairmen to coaches to captains have really impacted the rhythm of the board. Some reports even exposed the corruption in the management while some other reports revealed the internal politics and the blame game inside the management and in the selection process as well.
All this changes the players’ minds regularly, and the team never gets on one page.
Insecurities in Players and Captains
When the board members change at regular intervals, the players in the team are sure to get insecure. PCB is failing to feel safe to their players and this is hampering the team performance. Players are playing more for their place in the team, not for the team to win. A source from PCB said, “The players are more focused on securing their own positions rather than thinking about the team’s performance.”
A year back, Babar Azam resigned from the Captaincy in all the formats and Shaheen was announced as the captain of the side. Just after a series loss in New Zealand, the management took away the captaincy from Shaheen and this is what happens regularly in the Pakistan Cricket Team.
Shan Masood is the captain of the test side and Pakistan have lost all six matches played under his captaincy.
Batting Over-relying on Babar Azam
Pakistan had a number of great batters on their side in history and Babar Azam is one of them and probably the one who is still in the team. Pakistan do have good batters presently but most of the time, the team looks up to Babar Azam and if he fails, the team fails.
He is not only the team’s savior, but also the most loved and most criticized player in the team at the same time. This adds a lot of load on his shoulders and keeps adding pressure. in his last 18 innings in the test format, he hasn’t scored a fifty, and the Pakistan team has suffered a lot.
This must change if Pakistan wants their cricket to improve. There are other players and this is the time when they need to stand up and ease down the ONLY BABAR factor from the team.
Pakistan cricket team’s fitness levels
Concerns have surfaced regarding the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) player development program, as questions about its effectiveness continue to grow. The PCB has openly recognized the scarcity of new talent in the country, which is contributing to ongoing challenges in the team’s performance. This shortage forces the board to persist with players even when they fail to meet expectations.
The lack of fresh talent puts additional pressure on the existing squad, as underperforming players remain in the lineup with limited alternatives available. This has raised concerns about the long-term sustainability of Pakistan’s cricketing success, as reliance on a stagnant pool of players leaves little room for growth or improvement.
Moreover, player fitness has emerged as a critical issue. Reports suggest a significant decline in the physical conditioning of the team, which has led to frequent injuries and a noticeable dip in their performance levels on the field. This decline in fitness is becoming a major concern for the PCB, as it further hampers the team’s ability to compete at the highest level.
Conclusion: There are a lot of issues going on at the same time in the Pakistan Cricket Board that is affecting the team’s output. The board can start things by providing the players with good fitness programs, not only for the international level players but also for the domestic players.
Second, the board, coaches, and the players of the team need to be on one page. This can happen with regular meetings and a good supportive environment around the camp.
Last, but not least, each player of the team should be clear of all thoughts and focused on one united goal i.e., to play their game and match it with the team’s requirements. These drills will improve many problems in the squad.
Babar Azam’s drop from the Pakistan national side has made a huge stir in international cricket. Defending their daring step, Pakistan’s head coach clarified that Babar has only been rested and not dropped, while also declaring him as their no. 1 batter.
Azhar Ali’s introduction as the Pakistan selector was not in the best way planned, as his first task to inform Babar about being dropped seemed controversial as a selector.
Also, one of the strongest performers in the Pakistan domestic circle, Kamran Ghulam, was also named the best domestic player of the year by the PCB. However, this seemed one of the biggest course-changing decisions in the history of Pakistan cricket.
Also, Kamran Ghulam has been named into the playing 11 after being immediately placed into the squad following the exit of veteran batter Babar Azam.
Fakhar Zaman’s dig on PCB over the decision to bench Babar Azam
Another veteran and exciting Pakistani cricketer of white ball cricket, Fakhar Zaman, has played several splendid match-winning matches for the Pakistan team. He, with a post on his X handle, questioned the PCB selection committee’s decision to bench a player of Babar’s calibre.
Zaman also drew a comparison of the Pakistani legendary cricketer with Indian cricket icon Virat Kohli, as the latter also faced a tough phase in his career between the years 2020–23.
He also sparked how Babar Azam, arguably their best batter, is dropped from the team owing to weak form, then it creates a stir of fear and instils a lack of confidence among other players.
“Azhar made it clear to Babar that he remained an integral part of Pakistan cricket’s future set-up and planning,” the source informed.
As one of the Pakistani selectors’ panel members, Aqib, mentioned, the break from international cricket would help them to regain their fitness as well as composure, hence making them ensured for future challenges.
