KKR’s five-man IPL 2025 retention shortlist finalized, Rinku Singh & S. Iyer set to get retained

KKR’s five-man retention shortlist finalized, Rinku Singh & S. Iyer set to get retained: The 18th edition of the world’s best T20 Cricket League, the Indian Premier League (IPL 2025) will witness the return of the Mega-Auction after a gap of three-years since IPL 2022.

All eyes will be on how reigning champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) go about their business in the auction, and which players they will buy and which players they retain and they let go.

Last season’s winners have undergone a huge-transformation, especially after their former mentor Gautam Gambhir departed to become the head-coach of Team India and he even made the duo of Ryan Ten Doeschate (fielding-coach) & Abhishek Nayar (assistant coach) follow suit with him from the Kolkata-based team.

According to some news reports, KKR’s star-player is anticipated to leave as well as he will not be retained by the team’s management ahead of the upcoming Mega-Auction.

According to a Anandabazar news-report, the Kolkata-based team’s star batting-all rounder, Venkatesh Iyer is set to get released by the three-time IPL winners ahead of the Mega-Auction of IPL 2025.

Venkatesh joined Kolkata in the 2021 edition of the tournament, when he was purchased for his 20 lakh rupees base-price. He had a spectacular first-season, scoring 370 runs in ten games and his performances were the main reason behind KKR’s road to the final of IPL 2021.

The 29-year-old had a quiet IPL 2022 season, managing to score just 182 runs in 12 matches with an awful average of 16.55.

But, his poor form didn’t last for a long time as he made a good comeback in the subsequent season, where he scored 404 runs with the bat, his best IPL runs-tally till date. He even scored a century against Rohit Sharma’s Mumbai Indians that year.

The Batting All-Rounder played an important role for Kolkata in the previous season of the competition as well, scoring back-to-back fifties in the first Qualifier and the all-important final.

KKR finalise five-player retention list, Captain Shreyas Iyer and highly-rated Rinku Singh set to get retained

Several rumours cropped up that the reigning champions were ready to send their skipper Shreyas Iyer in a trade deal to Hardik Pandya-led Mumbai Indians in exchange of Suryakumar Yadav. However, according to Anandabazar, Shreyas will continue to ply his services with the Knight Riders, alongside the likes of Sunil Marine, Andre Russell, Rinku Singh and wicketkeeper-batsman Phil Salt.

The franchise will keep their faith in Rinku intact despite the Southpaw underperforming with the bat in IPL 2024. Sunil Narine won the Most-Valuable-Player award in the previous season, while the duo of Salt and Russell played important roles in helping KKR lift their third IPL trophy.

IPL 2025: Dwayne Bravo leaves CSK!! Set to join champions KKR as their mentor

Former West Indian Fast-Bowling All-Rounder Dwayne Bravo has ended his cherished and long association with five time IPL winners Chennai Super Kings, with whom he lifted the IPL trophy four times, three times as a player and once as a bowling-coach.

He is set to join defending-champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), as a mentor, ahead of IPL 2025.

Bravo, who will be turning 41-years-old in October of this year, replaces the former mentor of the franchise, Gautam Gambhir, who joined forces with the Indian Cricket Team as their head-coach till 2027 after guiding the Kolkata based team to their third IPL title victory earlier this year.

Prior to his announcement of joining the three-time IPL winners, the 40-year-old had decided to hang up his boots from all forms of the sport.

According to ESPNcricinfo, the former West Indian All-Rounder had recently met the CEO of the Kolkata Knight Riders, Venky Mysore, before agreeing to join the Shreyas Iyer-led team as their mentor.

Apart from the three-time IPL winners, Bravo will also be a part of the support staff of all the franchises which are owned by the Knight-Riders group: Los Angeles Knight Riders (Major League Cricket), Trinbago Knight Riders (Caribbean Premier League) and Abu Dhabi Knight Riders (International League T20).

“Dwayne Bravo joining our team is huge and exciting news. His hunger of winning trophies, along with his great knowledge about the sport and his vast-experience will certainly benefit our players and franchise.” KKR CEO Venky Mysore said.

“I have been a part of TKR (Trinbago Knight-Riders) since the last decade in the Caribbean Premier League. Having played with & against them across various T20 leagues around the world, I have a tremendous amount of respect for the KKR group and just love the way they operate,” Dwayne Bravo said.

“The passion of the owners, the family-like atmosphere and their Professionalism make them a perfect franchise. As far as my coaching career is concerned, joining the Knight Riders as a mentor is certainly the perfect-platform for me as I begin the transition from a player to coaching and mentoring the future stars of Cricket,” he added.

This will be the second coaching-related piece of work for the 40-year-old in the Indian Premier League. The Fast Bowling All-Rounder, who was purchased by the Chennai Super Kings in the auction of IPL 2011, retired from the cash-rich T20 League and joined the Yellow Army as their bowling-coach from IPL 2023 onwards.

Having lifted the IPL trophy three times as a player, Dwayne found quick-success as a bowling-coach of the Chennai-based team, as he won his fourth IPL title with the Yellow Army in IPL 2023.

Regarded as one of the best death over bowlers in T20 Cricket, the former CSK All-Rounder is the third-highest wicket-getter in the history of the Indian Premier League and he’s also the 1st player to win the purple cap twice in the history of the competition.

Led by Batting All-rounder Mitchell Marsh, the 2023 ODI World Cup winners got off to a fantastic start in the series, finishing out on top in the first two games.

After Travis Head’s remarkable century powered the Aussies in the opening game of the series, the tourists extended their winning run with a comfortable victory by 68 runs in the 2nd ODI at Headingley, Leeds.

While opener Matthew Short has proven to be a hit or miss so far in the One Day International series, Steven Smith’s return to his best is going to prove to be a massive-advantage for the Aussies heading to the 4th One-Day International.

Captain Mitchell Marsh will like to focus on converting his good starts to big innings, while the duo of Alex Carey and Glenn Maxwell will be looking to provide finishing touches to the Kangaroos.

Hard Hitting opener Travis Head, who was rested for the 3rd One-Day International, is anticipated to participate in the 4th ODI. Also, leg-spinner Adam Zampa could come in place of Sean Abbott, who was hit to all parts of the stadium at Chester-Le-Street.

On the other hand, opening batter Phil Salt’s poor form might prove to be a huge cause of concern for the home side. The hard-hitting batsman has found it difficult to deal with Australian ace-pacer Mitchell Starc.

Amid Salt’s poor form with the bat, the batting-heroics of the duo of Will Jacks and skipper Harry Brook came as a breath-of-fresh-air for the home-side, allowing them to stay alive in the five-match One-Day International series with a much-needed victory in the 3rd One-Day International.

All-rounder Liam Livingstone will also be anticipated to play a crucial role for the Three Lions, as he showcased his class with both bat & ball in the 3rd ODI.

ENG vs AUS 4th ODI: Pitch-Report of the Lord’s Cricket-Stadium, London

The pitch of the Lord’s Cricket-Stadium will offer balanced support to both the batters and the bowlers. While the seamers might generate some movement in the first 10 overs with the new ball, the batsmen will enjoy the bounce and pace offered by the surface.

Some turn might be generated by the spinners and they would be looking to trouble the batters in the middle phase of an inning. The toss-winning skipper should opt to bat-first.

IND vs BAN: India’s Strongest Playing XI for the 2nd test-match vs Bangladesh | Kuldeep to get picked?

0

The Indian Cricket Team are set to lock horns against Najmul Hossain Shanto’s Bangladesh in the second test-match match of the two-match Test Series on the 27th of September at the Green Park Cricket Ground of Kanpur.

All eyes would be on whether the Men in Blue will make any kind of changes to their starting XI ahead of the 2nd test. The Rohit Sharma-led team, having easily defeated the Tigers in the Chennai Test-match, are looking to seal the series and strengthen their lead at the top of the WTC overall standings.

However, with Kanpur likely to go ahead with a spinner-friendly pitch for the 2nd test-match, the Indian Cricket Team’s management might be tempted to make some adjustments to their playing XI.

The pitch of the Green Park Cricket Ground of Kanpur tends to be on the slower side, which could entice the Indian Cricket Team to go with three spinners for the upcoming Kanpur Test-match.

Unlike the balanced-surface of Chennai, Kanpur’s pitch provides assistance to the spin bowlers and with the likes of Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel riding the bench, this could prove to be their time to shine.

The Men in Blue would feel comfortable to ahead with fielding three-proper spin bowlers, with Chinaman bowler Kuldeep Yadav likely to get picked.

Sanjay Manjrekar, the commentator of Indian-Cricket, suggested that the 2023 WTC runners-up should pick Kuldeep in-order to add variety to their spin-bowling unit.

With Yadav’s Chinaman spin-bowling, his addition could complement R Ashwin’s off-spin bowling and Ravindra Jadeja’s slow-left-arm-orthodox, providing Rohit Sharma and his men the luxury of going ahead with their spin-to-win strategy.

If the Men in Blue decide to go ahead with three spinners, then one of the pacers will likely have to be sacrificed.

The duo of Akash Deep and Mohammad Siraj performed well with the ball in Chennai versus Bangladesh, but with spinners anticipated to have the upper hand in Kanpur, the Indian Cricket Team’s management might have to drop one of them.

The former’s ability to generate reverse-swing with the old-ball gives him an advantage over the latter, whose speed was an important-factor in the lively surface of Chennai, but that might not be the case in Kanpur.

Another possible scenario which might arise is of letting Jasprit Bumrah get some rest by not including him in the starting XI for the 2nd test.

Resting Bumrah would be a good option so that he remains fit and avoids picking up any kind of serious injuries ahead of the New Zealand Test-Series and the tour of India.

So if Bumrah does end up getting rested for the 2nd test, then the Men in Blue can bring Kuldeep in and let the duo of Siraj and Akash Deep play as the front line seamers in tomorrow’s match.

Other than this, no other changes are anticipated to be made in India’s playing XI for the 2nd test-match versus Bangladesh.

India’s Strongest Playing XI for the 2nd test-match versus Bangladesh

Yashasvi Jaiswal, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma (Captain), KL Rahul, Shubman Gill, Rishabh Pant (WK), R Ashwin, Kuldeep Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja, Akash Deep / Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammad Siraj.

IND vs BAN: Bangladesh’s Strongest Playing XI for the 2nd Test vs India | Shakib to get dropped?: India and Bangladesh are set to square off against each other in the 2nd and final test of the two-match Test-Series at the Green Park Cricket Stadium, Kanpur on 27th September. The match will commence from 9:30 am IST onwards.

The Indian Cricket Team secured a comfortable 280 run win in the opening match of the series and they would be looking to maintain their consistency by securing yet another win over Bangladesh in the upcoming game and clinch the series as well.

The visitors on the other hand, would be looking to avoid a series whitewash in the upcoming 2nd test match and they would like to level the series by securing a victory.

Ahead of the 2nd India vs Bangladesh test match, let’s take a look at the strongest playing XI of the Najmul Hossain Shanto-led team.

Bangladesh’s best possible starting 11 for the 2nd Test versus India

In what proves to be a massive problem for the visitors, experienced spin-bowling all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan might end up missing the all-important 2nd test match versus India at Green Park Cricket Stadium, Kanpur.

According to some emerging news reports, there are doubts regarding 37-year-old’s chances of featuring in the series decider, due to the finger injury he suffered in the Chennai test-match.

The opening match of the series was a really forgetful one for the veteran All-rounder, as he was not at his best and failed to perform with both ball and bat. The 37-year-old, who didn’t pick up a single wicket in the 1st test, scored just 57 runs across both the innings.

However, despite his poor form, Shakib could prove to be a big-miss for the visitors as they prepare to cause an upset and level the series. So, as his participation in the 2nd is test-match is Doubtful, let’s take a look at two players who might take his place in the upcoming game.

Two players who might replace Shakib-Al-Hasan in the Bangladesh playing XI for the 2nd test versus India

1 . Taijul Islam

If Shakib doesn’t participate in the 2nd test-match versus India, then left-arm-orthodox spinner Taijul Islam might replace him as a like-for-like spin bowling-replacement for the tourists. His presence can boost the spin-bowling unit of the Najmul Hossain Shanto-led team and he is an experienced campaigner, having picked up 195 wickets in 46 red-ball matches.

Keeping in mind, a spinner-friendly surface will be used for the 2nd test match in the city of Kanpur, the Tigers could bring in Taijul in place of Shakib.

The 32-year-old spinner can take full advantage of the spin friendly conditions and dominate the Indian batters in their own backyard.

2. Jaker Ali

Since the visitors don’t have another spin-bowling all-rounder in their squad, they might opt to play an extra batter in order to compensate for the void Shakib will leave in the middle-order if he doesn’t play in the 2nd test-match.

In such a situation, we might witness wicketkeeper-batsman Jaker Ali getting picked in the starting XI as a pure batsman. If he gets a chance to play, then he might bat in the middle-order and strengthen the batting-department of the Tigers.

Strongest Starting XI of Bangladesh for the 2nd test-match versus India

Zakir Hasan, Mominul Haque, Najmul Hossain Shanto (Captain), Shadman Islam, Litton Das (WK), Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Mushfiqur Rahim, Taijul Islam / Jaker Ali, Hasan Mahmud, Taskin Ahmed and Nahid Rana.

Kanpur Test: Aakash Chopra Predicts India’s Possible Change in Playing XI vs Bangladesh

The last match of the two-match Test series between India and Bangladesh will be played at Green Park, Kanpur from Friday 9:20 AM IST. Before this match, commentator Aakash Chopra believes that the Indian team can make one change in the playing 11 of the second Test. Spinner Kuldeep Yadav can be seen replacing a pacer in the Kanpur Test.

The pitch of Kanpur is made of black soil, which simply means a spinner-friendly track, so it will not be a surprise if Rohit Sharma can come on the field with three spinners and two pacers. The last test match was played in Chennai, where the pitch was helpful for the fast bowlers. That is why the Indian team came on the field with a combination of three fast bowlers (Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj and Akash Deep) and two spinners (Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin).

Gautam Gambhir and Pitch Curator

Kanpur curator said, “Kanpur will have something for everyone. It will offer bounce in the first two sessions, and be pretty good for batting for the first two days. Then, the spinners will come into play on the last three days.” (PTI).

Aakash Chopra on his YouTube Channel: “You can do only one thing on a black-soil pitch – put grass and leave moisture. Then the ball moves decently for the first one to one-and-a- half days. If they make such a pitch, which they did in Chennai, they might have to play three fast bowlers. However, if it’s a typical Kanpur surface, low, slow and slightly spin-friendly, Kuldeep Yadav has to play,”

He further added: It It could be a straight swap, a fast bowler out and Kuldeep Yadav in. If there is no workload management, Akash Deep out and Kuldeep in. If Bumrah has to rest, both Akash Deep and Kuldeep might play. Other than that, I don’t think there is a scope for a change in the team,”

IPL 2025: 5 players set to get retained by each franchise, no RTM Cards| BCCI confirms

0

Indian Cricket’s Cricket-Governing body, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), is set to allow all the 10 IPL (Indian Premier League) franchises to retain five-players without the having the option of Right-to-Match (RTM) available in the upcoming Mega-auction of IPL 2025.

In recent meeting which took place at the headquarters of the BCCI, Mumbai, the officials of the Indian Premier League discussed the highly problematic topic of player retention with all of the 10 IPL-Franchise owners, and majority of the them were comfortable with the idea of letting five to six players continue to play with their respective franchises for the next edition of the cash rich T20 league, in order to maintain player continuity from the previous editions of the tournament

Moreover, it was further revealed that each franchise requested the BCCI to let them retain a minimum of five-players in-order to protect their respective team’s brand-value, to which the Cricket Governing Body agreed to, according to a news-report of the Indian Express.

With the luxury of retaining five-players ahead of IPL 2025’s Mega-auction, five-time IPL winners Mumbai Indians could end up benefiting the most, since they were forced to release their star-players in the previous two Mega-auctions due to having limited number of retentions.

While the BCCI has not yet given any official confirmation regarding the player-retention rules for next year’s edition of the tournament, the upcoming Mega-auction could prove to be a now-or-never one for some of the teams.

Furthermore, in the very same-meeting with the Cricket governing body of India, the owners of all 10 franchises wanted the Mega-auction to take place after four or five seasons, rather than having it after the end of three seasons.

Reportedly, five Indian Premier League franchises were not comfortable with the idea of a Mega-auction taking place ahead of the 2025 edition, and those five teams were the likes of 2024 winners Kolkata Knight Riders, Rajasthan Royals, Chennai Super Kings, Gujarat Titans and Mumbai Indians

All owners of these five teams wanted the Mega-auction to take place in 2026 rather than having it for IPL 2025.
