PAK vs ENG: Pakistan announce their squad for the 1st test vs England: Pakistan’s Cricket Governing-Body, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), on Tuesday, named their 15-player squad for the first test-match versus England. Pacer Khurram Shahzad is not a part of the squad for the first match after suffering an injury during the second Test-match versus Bangladesh.

As a replacement for the pacer, the home side have left-arm-orthodox-spinner Noman Ali, who has picked up 47 Test-Wickets in 15 test-matches and even has a top-score of 97 runs next to his name.

Right-handed batter Kamran Ghulam, who scored two centuries in Pakistan’s Champions One-Day-Cup, and seamer Mohammad Ali have not been included in the squad for the 1st test due to “ the emphasis of the selectors on continuity and consistency and the belief that a 15-member squad is pretty sufficient for a test-match”.

Ghulam and Ali will continue taking part in the Champions One-Day-Cup and the forthcoming President’s Cup starting from the 3rd of October onwards.

“With a highly occupied International & Domestic Cricket-schedule, it becomes important to provide an ample amount of rest to our core-players ahead of the England Test-Series,” Pakistani Test Cricket Head-Coach Jason Gillespie said.

“We are looking-forward to the highly-anticipated home Test-Series versus England and we can’t wait for it to commence. We are really excited about the prospect of playing in front of our enthusiastic fans”, Gillespie added.

The first match of the series is scheduled to take place in Multan on the 7th of October. The squad of the Shaheens will arrive at the Multan Cricket Stadium on the 30th of September, Monday and they will start with their training sessions the next day on 1st October.

Shan Masood and his men will be looking to bounce back from a shocking 2-0 Test-Series defeat versus Bangladesh.

Sri Lanka, under the leadership of Dhananjaya De Silva, secured a remarkable victory over New Zealand, winning by a margin of 63 runs in the 1st test on Monday.

Having elected to bat first, the home side put up a score of 305 runs on the board in their first inning, only to let the Kiwis get a small lead of 35 runs.

The Dhananjaya De Silva-led team managed to score 309 runs in their second inning, with the trio of Dinesh Chandimal, Dimuth Karunaratne and Angelo Mathews scoring half-centuries.

The Kiwis had to chase down 274 runs in order to go ahead in the two-match test series but they found themselves struggling at a score of 96-6.

Kane Williamson (30 runs in 46 deliveries) and Tom Latham (28 runs in 68 balls) got off to good starts but they weren’t able to convert their starts into big knocks.

Rachin Ravindra (92 runs in 168 balls) played a fighting knock and kept hold of one end but he didn’t receive any kind of support from the other players as wickets kept falling regularly at the other-end.

Ravi Ashwin surpasses Courtney Walsh and becomes the 8th-highest Wicket-Taker in Test Cricket: Indian Cricket Team’s star off-spinner Ravi Ashwin, who is sitting comfortably at the top of ICC Men’s Test-Bowling rankings, went past West Indies’ former seamer Courtney Walsh’s wicket tally of 519 scalps on Sunday (22nd of September) to become the eighth-highest wicket taker in Test Cricket.

The veteran off-spinner completed this accomplishment by dismissing Bangladesh’s Shakib Al Hasan during the morning session of the fourth day of the ongoing First Test-Match of the two encounter series between India & Bangladesh at the Chepauk Stadium of Chennai.

By picking up his fourth-wicket of the second inning, Ashwin has increased his wicket tally to 520 wickets in 101 Test-matches for the Men in Blue.

The record of completing the highest number of five-wicket-hauls in Test-Cricket belongs to Mutthiah Muralitharan, who has 67 fifers next to his name.

As the Mega-Auction of the next season of the Indian Premier League gets closer and closer, questions about Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s future as a Cricketer started to get raised.

According to a news report of RevSportz, the Chennai-based team are set to retain their former skipper MS Dhoni, but, the 43-year-old will not be their first retention pick. He will get retained at a lower price.

A group of core-players, which consists of the likes of Matheesha Pathirana and pace-bowling all-rounder Shivam Dube as well as CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad and experienced spin-bowling all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, will be retained at a higher price than MSD.

With the Board of Control for Cricket in India yet to finalise the confirmed retention-policy for the Mega-Auction of IPL 2025, Chennai are waiting patiently to see how many players can get retained by each franchise.

While MSD is reportedly a crucial part of the franchise’s plans for the next edition of the cash-rich tournament, it remains to be seen what kind of a role the veteran will play for them.

The RevSportz news report suggests that by retaining Dhoni at a lower retention-price, the 43-year-old will not take-up a massive portion of Chennai’s auction-purse.

If the BCCI lets the old-retention rule of letting players that have retired from International-Cricket for more than five-years be retained as Uncapped-players make a comeback, then Chennai and MSD will end up benefiting from that rule.

The former CSK captain has been batting in the lower-order of the batting lineup, mainly at number seven and number eight, but he has delivered some really impactful knocks with the bat. However, his ability of running between-the-wickets has decreased a lot in the last few years.

CSK’s five-man retention shortlist:

Ravindra Jadeja, despite being 36-years-old, remains an important player for the Chennai-based team, having previously led the team in 2022.

Shivam Dube has flourished in the Yellow Army’s middle-order, scoring runs on a consistent basis in the last two-editions of the competition.

Sri Lanka’s young fast bowling sensation Matheesha Pathirana, often referred as the next Lasith Malinga due to the similarities both of them share with their bowling-action, has emerged as a yorker and death-over specialist for the franchise, picking up wickets at crucial junctures and has consistently maintained a fascinating economy-rate at the same time.

Perfect Australia defeat England by 68 runs in the 2nd ODI, take a 2-0 lead: Mitchell Marsh-led Australia emerged victorious in the second One Day International match of the five-match series as they secured a 68-run victory over Harry Brook’s England.

Alex Carey’s delightful 74 run knock and a fascinating bowling performance by the experienced Aussie duo of Josh Hazlewood (2-54) and Mitchell Starc (3-50) helped the visitors secure a comfortable victory over the hosts.

The win in the 2nd One Day International was Australia’s 14th-consecutive ODI victory, who have taken an advantage in the series as they have taken a 2-0 lead.

The Kangaroos, who secured a really easy win in the first One Day International by a margin of seven-wickets on Thursday struggled to get past the 200-runs mark at the Headingley Cricket Stadium of Leeds after being asked to bat first, with skipper Mitchell Marsh (60 runs in 59 deliveries) being the only top-order batsman to score a fifty.

Travis Head, who secured his One Day career’s best score of 154* runs in the first match of the series, made 29 runs before falling prey to Brydon Carse (3-75).

Steve Smith got dismissed for four runs, Labuschagne (19 runs in 28 deliveries) and Glenn Maxwell (7 runs in 5 deliveries) as the Aussies struggled to perform well against the bowling brilliance of the hosts.

However, much to the dismay of the English fans, wicketkeeper-batsman Alex Carey turned things into the favour of the 2023 ODI World Cup winners as he hit some really good looking three maximums and eight fours, which allowed Australia to post a really good total of 270 runs on the board in 44.4 overs.

The score of 270 runs proved to be too-much for the new-look batting order of the Three Lions as they badly missed the services of England’s regular white-ball captain Jos Buttler, ruled out of the series due to an injury and they were up against an experienced Aussie bowling attack, consisting of Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc.

Left arm seamer Mitchell Starc got rid of Will Jacks (0 runs in 1 ball) and England’s stand-in skipper Harry Brook (4 runs in 9 balls) while Hazlewood from the other end sent opening batter Phil Salt (12 runs in 14 deliveries) back to the pavilion.

Liam Livingstone’s golden duck meant that the 2019 ODI World Cup winners were struggling at 65-5 in 9.3 overs.

Besides the duo of Ben Duckett (32 runs in 25 deliveries) and Jamie Smith (49 runs in 61 balls), no other English batter was able to show any kind of retaliation.

The trio of Adil Rashid (27 runs in 34 balls), Jacob Bethell (25 runs in 35 balls) and Brydon Carse (26 runs 46 balls) failed to capitalise on their starts.

The Three Lions got all-out for 202 runs in 40.2 overs as Starc accounted for the wicket of number 11 batter Olly Stone, who got caught in the slips by Steve Smith.

The Mighty Aussies, who won the 2023 ODI World Cup in Ahmedabad versus India, now have the opportunity of sealing the five-match series by winning in the Third One Day International at the Seat Unique Riverside Stadium of Durham on Tuesday of next week.
