PAK vs AUS: Pakistan script history as they clinch the ODI series 2-1 for the 1st time in 22 years in Australia, win the 3rd ODI by 8-wickets

0

Pakistan: The last match of the three-match One-Day International series between Australia and Pakistan was played in Perth on 10 November (Sunday). In this match, Pakistan won by 8 wickets over hosts Australia. In the match, the Green Shirts got a target of 141 runs to win, which it achieved in just 26.5 overs. With this victory, the Shaheens under the captaincy of Mohammad Rizwan won the three-match ODI series 2-1. The Kangaroos had won the first match of the series by a margin of 2 wickets, while the Pakistani team won the second match by 9 wickets.

Pakistan’s 22 year wait is over

If we look at it, Pakistan team has defeated Australia in a bilateral ODI series at their home after 22 years. Earlier in 2002, under the captaincy of Waqar Younus, the Green Shirts had defeated the Aussies 2-1 in an ODI series at their home. This means that Pakistan’s victory is quite historic. Fast bowler Haris Rauf was selected as ‘Man-of-the-Match’ and ‘Man-of-the-Series’.

Chasing the target in this match, the Mohammad Rizwan-led outfit got off to a great start. The opening duo of Abdullah Shafiq and Saim Ayub together got involved in a partnership of 84 runs for the opening wicket, which made the job easy for Pakistan. Shafiq scored 37 runs in 53 balls with the help of 1 four and a six. Ayub scored 42 runs in 52 balls, which included 4 fours and a maximum.

Later, the duo of Saim Ayub and Abdullah Shafiq were run out by pacer Lance Morris. From here, Babar Azam and skipper Mohammad Rizwan joined hands in the middle and they stitched an unbeaten partnership of 58 runs to take Pakistan to the doorstep of victory. Babar contributed 30 runs in 28 balls with the help of four fours. While Rizwan scored an unbeaten 30 runs. Rizwan hit two maximums and a four in his 27-ball inning.

Kangaroos swept away by the storm of the trio of Shaheen-Naseeem-Rauf

Earlier, Australia, who lost the toss and came to bat first, were bundled out for an embarrassing score of 140 runs in 31.5 overs. Sean Abbott top scored with a knock of 30 runs in 41 balls for Australia, which included 2 fours and a six. Opening batsman Matthew Short scored 22 runs. Apart from this, only Adam Zampa (13 runs), Aaron Hardy (12 runs) and Spencer Johnson (11* runs) could reach double figures. The duo of Shaheen Shah Afridi and Naseem Shah took three wickets a piece for the visitors while Haris Rauf dismissed 2 batters and Mohammad Hasnain got one wicket.

IND vs AUS: “Maybe it’s the IPL..”- Ricky Ponting makes another huge claim on Indian batters’ struggles against spin

0

IND vs AUS: India suffered a humiliating whitewash in the home Test series against New Zealand by a 3-0 margin. It marked India’s first Test series defeat at home since 2012 and the first whitewash in a home Test series since they started playing Test cricket.

This was much down to the Indian batters’ struggles while playing spin on spin-friendly pitches. Ajaz Patel, Mitchell Santner and Glenn Phillips wreaked havoc on the Indian batters and they failed to get going. India has really struggled to play spin on spin-friendly pitches in both ODI and Test cricket. Former World Cup-winning captain, Ricky Ponting, has blamed the IPL for Indian batters’ inability to play spin.

“Maybe it’s the IPL or how much IPL cricket they’re playing that the younger players are learning the game that way rather than the way that players did 15 or 20 years ago,” said Ricky Ponting.

Ricky Ponting was shocked to see India’s 3-0 loss against New Zealand

Ponting also added that the series result came as a shock for him given India’s dominance at home and the Kiwis playing without their main batter in Kane Williamson. He highlighted India’s vulnerability while playing spin on helpful tracks and stated that the modern Indian batters don’t have the skill of negative quality spin bowling as the earlier batters used to have.

Ponting also pointed out that the Indian batters are playing on good wickets on pace-friendly wickets in domestic cricket and that has really developed their pacers. However, the one downside is that it has really deteriorated the spin-playing abilities of the current Indian batters.

Team India lost the first match of the series by eight wickets at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, then they suffered a 113-run defeat in Pune and finally a 25-run defeat at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The batting averages of the Indian batters have really gone down in Test cricket due to their inability to play spin on home soil.

IND vs AUS: Australia announce their 13-member squad for the 1st test in Perth vs India, McSweeney set to open the inning

0

Australia: In what proves to be a significant development, WTC defending champions Australia have unveiled their final 13-member squad for the first test-match in Perth verus India. The Pat Cummins led team have sorted out the opening combination conundrum which was created following the retirement of David Warner.

Young sensation Nathan McSweeney will be seen giving company to veteran batter Usman Khawaja at the top of the order in the opening fixture of the highly anticipated Border Gavaskar Trophy 2024. After performing on an excellent note in Domestic Cricket, McSweeney has prevailed over Marcus Harris for the second opener spot in the Playing 11.

32-year-old Harris, who last participated in a Test-match two years ago in January of 2022, is not even a part of the extended Australian squad as the selectors gave wicket-keeper batsman Josh Inglis the preference as the backup batsman. Harris was the top run getter for Australia – A in their recently concluded unofficial test-match versus India – A at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, but he also got dismissed for a duck in the second inning.

Nathan McSweeney is set to become the first Aussie player in the span of 47 years to make his Test-debut as an opening batter despite not playing in that position in the domestic first class tournament of the country – the Sheffield Shield. The right handed batter was the top run-scorer for Australia – A in the first match versus India – A at the Great Barrier Reef Arena Stadium of Mackay, scoring 39 and 88 runs across two innings in the contest by batting at the number four spot.

But in the second match, the Australian selectors experimented with McSweeney as the opener as they made him swap places with Sam Konstas. But, the 25-year-old was unable to convert his innings into a big score, scoring 14 and 25 runs respectively across two innings at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, giving Marcus Harris a golden opportunity to seal the vacant opening spot.

However, George Bailey, Australia’s chairman of selectors, was convinced with the batting prowess of Nathan as he included him in the 13-member squad of the Aussies for the Perth Test-Match.

Following the back-injury of Batting all-rounder Cameron Green which forced him to miss the entire Australian Cricket Test-Summer, selectors confirmed that veteran batter Steven Smith will be shifting back to the number four spot from the top of the order.

The duo of Marcus Harris and Cameron Bancroft were initially considered the favourites for the second opening batter’s spot and they performed well in the Sheffield Shield as well. But, the latter couldn’t merit his selection decision as he suffered from poor form at the worst-possible time.

31-year-old Bancroft, who last featured in a Test-Match in the 2019 Ashes Series, had been in dominant form for Western Australia in the last two seasons of First-class Cricket, but he only managed to get a top score of just 16 runs in his last eight-innings.

Australia’s 13-member squad for the Perth Test-Match versus India: Usman Khawaja, Josh Inglis, Nathan McSweeney, Travis Head, Alex Carey (WK), Steven Smith, Mitchell Starc, Mitchell Marsh, Marnus Labuschagne, Scott Boland, Nathan Lyon, Josh Hazlewood and Pat Cummins (Captain).

IND vs SA: Sanju Starred As India Overpowered South Africa in the 1st T20I

0

IND vs SA 1st T20I: Sanju Samson stormed South Africa away with his brilliant innings and riding on his magnificent century, India defeated South Africa in the first T20I. A near-perfect team game led India to lead the series 1-0 after the first T20I of the series.

South Africa already had the worst feats at Kingsmead, Durban and this defeat in the first T20I against India marked their fifth consecutive loss at the venue. The Proteas’ last win at this venue came in March 2016 and they have only lost at this venue.

Let’s take a look at the match summary of IND vs SA 1st T20I:

IND vs SA 1st T20I Match Summary

It was supposed to be a highly competitive match, and it did live up to the expectations. Andile Simelane made his first appearance in the international T20s. The home team won the toss and asked India to bat first.

India’s Innings- 202/8 (20)

Sanju Samson stole the spotlight today. Abhishek Sharma attempted a quick start but was caught at covers. Captain Suryakumar Yadav played a supporting role to Samson, who became the first Indian to score back-to-back hundreds in T20Is.

Samson got off to a strong start during the powerplay and maintained his momentum throughout the innings. Other batters played around him as he built two solid partnerships, each over 50 runs, for the second and third wickets.

Sanju was dismissed in the 16th over when the team scored 175. India would have easily touched 220 or more but the collapse of the middle and lower middle order led Indian innings to sum up at 202. Coetzee was the most successful bowler for Proteas with his three wickets.

South Africa’s Innings- 141/10 (17.5)

Arshdeep set the tone right from the start, claiming Markram’s wicket in the first over. With that crucial breakthrough, the spinners took charge, and both Bishnoi and Varun showcased impressive control and accuracy. They kept up the pressure, sharing six wickets between them and conceding just 53 runs in eight overs. This tight spell effectively tilted the game in India’s favor.

ARSHDEEP 1
IND vs SA: Early breakthrough by Arshdeep Singh

South Africa found it difficult to get any momentum as their top batters fell one after another. Each time they tried to break free, they lost another crucial wicket, making it tough to build a stable partnership. Coetzee fought back briefly with some powerful shots, using the long handle effectively to add valuable runs.

However, his run-out brought an end to their resistance, and Avesh Khan closed out the innings by bowling Maharaj. The Indians maintained strong scoreboard pressure, and aside from a few dropped catches, their bowling and fielding efforts were well-coordinated, leading to a convincing performance.

India bundled out South Africa for just 141 and won the match by 61 runs. The two teams will now head to Gqeberha for the second T20I on 10th November.

Player of the Match: Sanju Samson – for his 107 runs off just 50 balls and a catch behind the wickets.

Citing security reasons, India denies travelling to Pakistan for the upcoming Champions Trophy; matches are to be shifted to Dubai

India will not be travelling to Pakistan for the upcoming Champions Trophy, the cricket tournament that will be held in the coming year.

The Indian Cricket Board (BCCI) has communicated their opinion to PCB that, owing to security reasons, their games in the Champions Trophy are to be shifted somewhere outside Pakistan, with the most likely venue being Dubai.

“This has been our stance, and there is no reason to change that. We have written to them and asked them to shift our games to Dubai,” a source in the know said.

The Champions Trophy is being held for the first time since 2017, the edition which was won by the Pakistan cricket team. The top 8 ranked teams in the ICC will participate in the Champions Trophy, which will possibly be scheduled to be held on the 19th of February.

The ICC has confirmed PCB’s location of Karachi, Lahore, and Rawalpindi as the host grounds. Just like last year’s Asia Cup, when India moved their matches out of Pakistan to Sri Lanka, they stood firm on their stand over not playing the Champions Trophy in Pakistan.

Some hopes stirred over India’s participation when India’s external affairs minister S Jaishankar was seen engaging in a conversation with Pakistan’s foreign minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization meeting.

Under diplomatic corridors, the PCB chairman was kept in the loop, as whispers of India travelling to Pakistan were heard. Even the PCB gave the Indian board the option of their team coming back to India after every game; however, nothing seemed to have worked for the two teams.

The Indian team will be travelling to Australia in 2 days, as they will remain in Australia to feature in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and get their players adapted to the Australian tracks.

As per reports, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma will not travel to Australia for the first two tests, as he might be absent owing to family reasons. Jasprit Bumrah might be seen in the role of Indian skipper in his absence, while also likes of Abhimanyu Easwaran or KL Rahul might be seen featuring as the Indian opener in the absence of the opening batter Rohit.

It’s uncommon for a men’s T20I series to act as a precursor to a franchise tournament’s player auction, but the IPL is no ordinary competition. The players will be focused on the series victory but a part of their conscience would be on the IPL Auction in a couple of weeks. An age-old cricket proverb claims that the sport is a team game for individuals, and while that still holds true, there’s a twist in this case.

Kingsmead, Durban Pitch Report

Durban is known for having the slowest pitches in South Africa, though they won’t resemble typical subcontinental surfaces. While the city has a reputation for frequent rain interruptions during cricket matches, the forecast for Friday indicates that weather shouldn’t pose an issue.

One can expect a evenly poised match between the ball and the bat. The average first innings score at Kingsmead is 136 but both sides are capable of much higher scores than this.

IND vs SA: India begin their first T20 match today at Durham, as this will mark the beginning of the four-match T20 series between the two teams.

The last time India travelled to South Africa for a similar T20 series, it ended in a draw, as neither of the two teams won a match each, while one match was washed off due to rain. Suryakumar Yadav, the then captain of the T20I series, marked a series-leveling performance then.

However, the Proteas would look to harvest their grudge from the World Cup T20 final, while India will climb the ladder once again. South Africa, with their newly launched squad, will look to bounce back after their set of losses in the shortest format since the T20 World Cup final at Barbados.

Also, the two nations, India and South Africa have registered the maximum number of players in the mega-auction, and this series will be the last chance for many players to prep for the IPL mega-auction.

IND vs. SA: India’s Probable Playing 11 for the First T20I

Opening Batsman: Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma

Samson has been the standout performer for India, as he dominated with a stunning hundred scored against Bangladesh. While Abhishek Sharma, the swashbuckling opener, will also look to arrive in form prior to the IPL.

Middle Order Batsmen: Suryakumar Yadav, Rinku Singh, and Tilak Varma

The middle order is primarily led by the skipper Suryalumar Yadav from the front, while the likes of superstar Rinku Singh also adore their tally of middle-order batters. Varma replaces the likes of Riyan Parag in the team, who has been ruled out due to injury.

All-rounders: Ramandeep Singh and Hardik Pandya

The two magnificent all-rounders, including the veteran and a rookie, will also be a part of their squad. Ramandeep is the new addition to India’s playing 11 in the absence of Nitish Kumar Reddy, who will be part of India’s BGT squad.

Bowlers: Ravi Bishnoi, Avesh Khan, Arshdeep Singh, and Varun Chakravarthy

India will have the likes of two spinners and two pacers in their squad, which includes Avesh Khan’s return to the squad alongside World Cup winner Arshdeep Singh. The two spinners Bishnoi and Chakravarthy will be placed alongside them to gain control of the middle overs.

Right from the first over, Australia A’s bowlers seemed unstoppable, taking down India A’s top batters in no time.

AUS A vs IND A Day 1: Jurel Came To Rescue After Top Order Derailed
Micheal Neser

The innings began with captain Abhimanyu Easwaran and Sai Sudharsan falling for ducks, leaving the score at a shocking 0-2 within the first four balls. Rahul and Ruturaj Gaikwad tried to steady things, but both were dismissed quickly and by the third over, India A found themselves in deep trouble at 11-4.

In the middle order, Devdutt Padikkal tried to fight back, scoring a cautious 26 off 55 balls. Though he held on for a while, Padikkal’s dismissal at 64-5 left India A sinking again, and the pressure kept mounting.

Then came Dhruv Jurel, who put up the only serious resistance in an otherwise crumbling lineup. With an impressive 80 off 186 balls, Jurel stood tall against Australia’s bowlers, hitting six fours and two sixes. His innings, filled with grit and determination, gave India A a glimmer of hope, as he stretched the score closer to 161 before being dismissed at 155-9.

Australia A’s bowlers were relentless, and Michael Neser was their hero, taking 4 crucial wickets. Neser’s opening spell wrecked India A’s top order, and he never let them settle. Webster was equally destructive in the lower order, claiming three important wickets and wiping out any chance of a comeback.

AUS A vs IND A Day 1: Jurel Came To Rescue After Top Order Derailed
Australia A bundled India A under 161 runs

With steady support from Rocchiccioli and McSweeney, Australia A’s bowling attack was on fire, breaking through India A’s lineup like it was a training exercise, never allowing a big partnership to form.

In the end, India A’s innings was a story of missed chances and one brave knock. Jurel’s fighting spirit stood out, but he was a lone warrior as the rest of the team crumbled around him. For Australia A, this dominant bowling performance has set the stage to take control of the game and put themselves in a strong position for a solid lead.

AUSTRALIA A innings highlights

Australia A had a steady, cautious start in their innings, reaching 43 runs for the loss of 2 wickets by 14.3 overs. Opener Nathan McSweeney managed to score 14 off 30 balls before being caught by Rahul off Mukesh Kumar’s bowling, giving India A an early breakthrough at 31-1.

Marcus Harris, on the other hand, looked more settled, scoring 26 off 42 balls with four boundaries. Cameron Bancroft struggled to get going, facing 22 balls but only scoring 3 runs before he was caught by Tanush Kotian off Khaleel Ahmed’s bowling, leaving Australia A at 43-2.

Now, Harris remains at the crease with Sam Konstas, who’s still finding his footing, scoring only 1 run from 11 balls. The Indian bowlers, particularly Mukesh Kumar and Khaleel Ahmed, did well to keep things tight and put pressure on the batters. The rain interrupted at the last couple of minutes and the stumps were called.

India A will aim to pick up more wickets soon to prevent Australia A from building a big lead, while Australia A will look to Harris to steer them through this tricky phase and set up a solid first-innings score.

RCB veteran picks his four priority players for RCB in the IPL mega-auction in 2024

RCB have had an immense legacy in the history of the IPL; though they have not been able to secure a position as title winners, they are among the teams with the highest fanbases in the Indian Premier League.

The Royal Challengers Bangalore have retained the second-fewest players and are hence contained with a whopping second-highest purse in the mega-auction. RCB have retained the likes of veteran Virat Kohli for a huge INR 21 crore, Rajat Patidar for INR 11 crore, and lastly, uncapped Yash Dayal for INR 5 crore.

Entering the mega-auction with a huge purse amount of INR 83 crore, RCB will look to rebuild a squad having let go of their core squad. Now RCB veteran AB de Villiers picked a set of four players who will be vital from the team’s point of view.

ABD picks the likes of Chahal and Rabada as vital picks for RCB in the mega-auction

The Rajasthan Royals have parted ways with their lead spinner and the highest wicket-taker in the IPL. Yuzi Chahal, a former RCB veteran, went on to achieve his peak in his career with the Royal Challengers.

The leggie often relishes his spells at the Chinnaswamy despite the ground dimensions being in favour of big hitters. It is one of India’s best six-hit arenas, and Chahal can be an asset to his side if back with the Challengers.

Kagiso Rabada

Rabada New
Protea veteran Rabada (Image Credit: ESPNcricinfo)

Veteran Protea pacer Rabada has also had a scintillating record in the Indian Premier League and will also be, in a true sense, a very high-value player in the mega-auction.

Rabada’s pace will hand RCB the first unique pacer in the shortest format, which traced the second-best-ever RCB pacer since Dale Steyn last played for the franchise.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar

Ace Sunrisers pacer, who has had a long legacy of a decade with the franchise, went on to feature for them since 2013, the first season played by the Sunrisers Hyderabad.

For the first time, Bhuvi comes into the auction, and a player of his calibre will remain one of the finest auction bids in the season.

Ravichandran Ashwin

The major Southpaw will be vital as a spin bowler and an all-rounder as well when Ashwin can come in to bat under pressure situations.

Ashwin is expected to return to the South teams, with the likes of CSK and RCB both in need of a spinner of Ashwin’s calibre and experience.
