South Africa topped the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 Points table following their consecutive 3rd win yesterday and now they are almost through to the semis. Pakistan won the toss and opted to bat first which was arguably a good decision. Babar Azam also reached 50 but fell short after. Saud Shakeel and Shadab Khan handled the situation and took Pakistan to a competitive total of 270. This was below-par if you look at the opponents. Pakistan’s Leg-spinner nightmare is exposed yet another time as Tabraiz Shamsi got 4 wickets.

Quinton de Kock gave a brisk start to South Africa but fell to Md Wasim Jr. Bavuma, de Kock, Der Dussen, Klaasen, and Miller, all got good starts but failed to capitalize. Markram stood there and smashed 91 runs but got out when the team needed 21 more runs. After the quick dismissals of Gerald Coetzee and Ngidi, the previously untainted African team found itself in danger of losing.

PAK vs SA: In the first of many nailbiting finishes in the ongoing World Cup 2023, South Africa dismantled Pakistan at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, last night, and registered their fifth victory. While the win powered South Africa to the top of the updated World Cup 2023 points table, Pakistan are almost out of the World Cup 2023 semi-final race. In the do-or-die contest with South Africa, Pakistan scored 270 runs before getting bundled out in 47 overs. Skipper Babar Azam scored a fine half-century along with Saud Shakeel, who scored 53 runs. There were some other valuable contributions from Mohammad Rizwan and Shadab Khan, which helped Pakistan post 270 runs.

The chase looked pretty simple for South Africa as it was too low for the standards they had set for themselves in the World Cup 2023, but here the surface played a bit of trick.

But, it was far from done for Pakistan, as they slipped towards the end of the innings. Pakistan required just one wicket to win the game and South Africa needed seven runs. There was tension around in both camps, but South Africa eventually prevailed and defeated Pakistan by 1 wicket.

Pakistan’s loss against South Africa has nearly put them on the brink of elimination from the ongoing ICC World Cup 2023. As per the latest points table, Pakistan is seated in sixth place with just two wins from six matches. Three matches are still to go for them, and Pakistan will aim to win all of them in order to contend for the semi-finals.

South Africa, on the other hand, is placed comfortably at the top of the World Cup 2023 points table with five victories from six matches. The Proteas will easily move to the semis of the ongoing tournament even if they get defeated in a couple of their next games.
