The 2nd T20I match of England vs Australia was played at Sophia Gardens in Cardiff where England won the match by defeating Australia by three wickets, and with this victory the series has also reached a 1-1 draw. The biggest contribution to England’s victory was made by middle order batsman Liam Livingstone who played an innings of 87 runs.

England captain Philip Salt won the toss and invited the visiting Australian team to bat first. Batting first, the Kangaroo team scored 193 runs for the loss of six wickets in 20 overs. Travis Head’s excellent form continued in this match as well, he scored 31 runs in just 14 balls with the help of four fours and two sixes.

Jake Fraser-McGurk, who was playing only his third match, also played an important role in taking the scoreboard forward. Fraser scored a half-century in just 31 balls with the help of four fours and two sixes. Wicketkeeper batsman Josh Inglis scored 42 runs in 26 balls while batting-allrounder Aaron Hardie scored 20 runs in just nine balls.

While chasing the target, England lost their wickets in the form of Will Jacks and Jordan Cox for just 34 runs. Sean Abbott took the wickets of both the batsmen in the same over. After the dismissal of both, there was a partnership of 45 runs between Philip Salt and Liam Livingstone. After the dismissal of Salt (39), the Australian team made a comeback in the game for some time but Liam Livingstone soon turned the match in England’s favour.

AFG vs NZ Test: Match Abandoned Without Toss! Was The Match Part WTC 2023-25? Check Out!

AFG vs NZ Test: The most awaited contest for Afghanistan, the one-off test against New Zealand for the first time in the history of Afghanistan Cricket has just fallen prey to the rain and poor drainage system of Greater Noida Sports Complex.

Afghanistan, a country that have hardly played 10 test matches in their history and none against the SENA countries. This was a great opportunity for them to face off against a strong New Zealand side but it all gone waste at the Greater Noida Sports Complex.

AFG vs NZ Test Abondoned

It was the first time in 91 years that a test match was called off without even a TOSS due to rain. The Afghanistan Cricket Board updated with the news and said, “It is still raining in Greater Noida and due to frequent rains, the 5th and final day of the Afghanistan vs New Zealand test has also been called off by the match officials.”

AFG vs NZ Test Series 2024: New Zealand Announced Squad for Tests against Afghanistan and Sri Lanka
AFG vs NZ test

For New Zealand, this rain-affected Test would have been an ideal opportunity to gear up for their upcoming World Test Championship matches against Sri Lanka and India in the subcontinent. Playing in similar conditions could have helped them adjust to the challenges of spin, slower wickets, and the subtleties of playing in the heat and humidity. Losing that chance could mean they head into those crucial fixtures less prepared than they would have hoped.

On the other hand, Afghanistan had a rare opportunity to establish their presence in the Test arena. Being a newer team in the longest format, every match is vital for their growth and exposure. Going up against a strong side like New Zealand could have provided them with valuable experience and a chance to prove their abilities on a larger stage.

Unfortunately, the weather had other plans, and both sides are left feeling frustrated. The cancellation not only affected immediate preparations but also robbed Afghanistan of a significant chance to showcase their potential.

AFG vs NZ Test Impact on World Test Championship?

The lone test match of Afghanistan against New Zealand was not the part of the ICC WTC 2023-25 cycle. Among the 12 Test-playing nations, only nine are currently part of the ongoing World Test Championship (WTC) cycle, while Afghanistan, Ireland, and Zimbabwe remain excluded.

Afghanistan’s absence from the WTC is largely due to their relatively recent arrival in the Test cricket arena. Since gaining Test status in 2017, Afghanistan has participated in just nine Test matches across different venues, with the fixture against New Zealand marking their tenth.

Hence, there is no change in the ICC WTC Points table After the AFG vs NZ Test. Take a look at the WTC Points table:

Mitchell Marsh-led Australia will be taking on Phil Salt’s England in the second T20 International encounter of their ongoing three-game series at the Sophia Gardens Stadium of Cardiff on the 13th of September.

The Mighty Aussies secured a comfortable 28-run run in the first-match in Southampton. With the series now on the line for the hosts while the visitors will be looking to seal the series, the second T20I will be a really exciting one to watch.

In the first game, the Kangaroos managed to post a decent total of 179 runs on the board, thanks to a blistering fifty by Travis Head.

The Three Lions, who opted to field first, struggled to contain the run flow of the Aussie batting unit, with spin bowling all-rounder Liam Linvingstone, dismissing three batters.

However, the England batting unit weren’t able to cope up with the pressure created by the Australian’s and the Aussie bowling unit, under the leadership of Josh Hazelwood, did not allow the hosts to gain any kind of momentum and they ensured that the Three Lions didn’t get the opportunity of coming on the front foot.

Livingstone fought like a lone warrior and gave his absolute best in both the departments to help his side stay in the game but his lone efforts didn’t prove enough to help his team win the match.

The action of the two-fierce rivals will now shift to Cardiff, England will be looking to make a comeback and equalise the series while the Kangaroos, on the other hand, will be looking to carry forward their winning momentum and secure an early series win.

In what promises to be a really fascinating and exciting encounter, Ashes-Rivals England and Australia are set to lock horns against each other in the second T20 International match of the three-game Twenty-Twenty series. The Mighty Aussies are ahead in the series by 1-0, having won against the Three Lions in the first match of the series.

In the previous game, opening batter Travis Head’s explosive-batting and his team’s exceptionally good bowling display helped the tourists secure a 28-run victory. England, under the leadership of Phil Salt, struggled to get going and weren’t able to find their rhythm.

The second game will be a must-win one for the Phil Salt-led team and if they end up on the losing side in that game, then the Kangao will gain an unattainable lead and they will run away with the series comfortably.

The second match will take place on the 13th of September at the Sophia Gardens Cricket Stadium of Cardiff. The game will commence at 11:00 PM IST.

ENG vs AUS 2nd T20I: Previews of both the teams

England

England had a really good game with the ba as they managed to keep Australia below 200 runs with Jofra Archer and Saqib Mahmood playing a key role with the ball in the death overs.

But with the bat, except Sam Curran and Liam Livingstone, the other English batters were not able to perform according to expectations.

Livingstone was his team’s top run getter with the bat and he was England’s highest wicket-taker as well.

The duo of Saqib Mahmood and Adil Rashid bowled well as well, but left arm pacer Reece Topley had a really bad day with the ball for the Three Lions, only being handed one over in which he gave away 15 runs.

Sam Curran, on the other hand, wasn’t that great either as Travis Head smacked him for 30 runs in his initial over but he made a good comeback by picking up a wicket in the death overs.

Reece Topley might get dropped in favour of Josh Hull or John Turner for the next game while Dan Mousely can also be given a chance to shine at the expense of Jacob Bethell or Sam Curran.

Probable Playing 11 for the second T20 International:

Phil Salt (Captain), Will Jacks, Jacob Bethell / Dan Mousely, Jordan Cox, Sam Curran, Liam Livingstone, Adil Rashid, Jofra Archer, John Turner / Josh Hull and Saqib Mahmood.

Australia

Matt Short opening the inning ahead of hard-hitting opener Jake-Fraser-McGurk took a lot of people by surprise, but his inning of 41 runs will ensure that he keeps his place in the playing 11 for the remaining-encounters of the series.

Fast Bowler Xavier Bartlett limped his way off the ground after picking up an injury in the middle of his over so one of Aaron Hardie, Riley Meredith or Ben Dwarshius will be battling against each other for Bartlett’s spot in the playing 11.

The surface of the Sophia Gardens Stadium offers lively bounce and pace in the initial phase of the inning, providing a really good platform for the pacers to create an early and instant impact.

As the game progresses, the surface of the ground starts to get flat, becoming more and more favourable for the batsmen.

Spinners get limited help in the first inning but from the second inning onwards, the pitch becomes drier and drier, which allows the slow bowlers to grip the ball more and that shifts the game in the favour of the defending team.

The toss-winning captain should opt to bat first at this iconic stadium.

CHECK: Virat Kohli is just 58 runs behind, breaking Sachin’s iconic record

BAN vs IND: Virat Kohli is just 58 runs behind, breaking Sachin’s iconic record

0

BAN vs IND: The Indian cricket team is all set to resume their cricket action with the Bangladesh Test series, which will commence on the 19th of September. Once again, all eyes will be on Virat Kohli, the legendary player.

The 35-year-old has retired from the shortest format of the game, post India’s iconic T20 World Cup triumph. This also implies that he will be seen starring for India in the ODIs as well as the Test series from now on.

Virat is often compared with the likes of the legend Sachin Tendulkar, as neither of these two cricketers has maintained unmatchable records in the game. Kohli has broken many great records in cricket, of which many belonged to the little master.

In the last Cricket World Cup in 2023 against New Zealand in a semi-final match, he scored his 50th international ton, which broke Sachin’s record for 49 international ODI centuries. While Sachin Tendulkar yet has 51 test centuries and a record of 100 international hundreds, Kohli has 80, countering his record.

ALSO READ: Ishan Kishan scores a brilliant hundred on Duleep Trophy’s return post-opening round injury

Sachin has a great record of 18426 runs in his international ODI career; as for Virat Kohli, it didn’t seem very likely to be a broken record, as Kohli is nearly 4500 runs behind the Master Blaster, which doesn’t seem very likely for the 35-year-old to be broken.

Sachin has another invincible record as of now, where he has scored 34357 runs in the history of cricket, playing only ODIs and Tests with only a single T20I appearance where he scored 10 runs. Only Sri Lanka’s Kumara Sangakara and Australia’s Ricky Ponting have scored 27000+ international runs, and now Virat is knocking at the doorstep of a world record.

Among the three, Sachin has the record of achieving this great milestone in 623 international innings, with 226 Test, 396 ODI, and 1 T20I innings. He scored 27000 runs from 623 innings, while Virat Kohli has now scored 591 innings, and he is standing on 26942 runs as of now and is only 58 runs away from being the first to reach the landmark in less than 600 innings.

The Bangladesh Test might be the very first game where Kohli looks to achieve this great feat, as he would break the 147-year historical record in the sport.

Ishan Kishan scores a brilliant hundred on Duleep Trophy’s return post-opening round injury

0

India wicketkeeper and star batter from Jharkhand, Ishan Kishan has emerged in fine form in the longest format of the game. Kishan has starred for India previously across all formats, though not very recently. The batter plays a crucial role in the Mumbai Indians camp, as the opener batter was the costliest among Indian players in the 2022 mega-auction.

Kishan returned to red-ball cricket after a long gap with the Buchi Babu tournament, where he starred in the first game as skipper for the state side. It was regarding the strict ultimatum issued by the BCCi over Indian players to star in domestic games in order to make a comeback to the Indian test side.

Hence, what seemed stunning was Ishan Kishan’s comeback hundred in the Buchi Babu, where he scored a quickfire century and in the innings broke several records as he smashed an iconic nine sixes in his 86-ball hundred. However, later he had to withdraw from the competition due to his participation in the Duleep Trophy, as he was picked for Gaikwad-led India C.

However, misfortune struck again, as Ishan Kishan missed the opening round of the Duleep Trophy due to a niggle early on, which ruled him out of the first leg. Alongside Suryakumar Yadav, he was also ruled out, and hence they have to wait further for their return to the Indian team as a red ball player.

Now, after the team for the opening test against Bangladesh has been picked, Ishan Kishan is back playing in the Duleep Trophy. In the very first match of a comeback in the Duleep Trophy, Ishan Kishan scores a stunning century.

Kishan came into bat after a recent crisis, as the skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad twisted his ankle and had to be taken off the field in only the second ball of the inning. Though Sudarshan and Patidar made stabilizing 40s, that was when Kishan came in to bat.

Ishan Kishan played a breathtaking inning, as he scored 111 runs off just 126 balls with 14 fours and 3 sixes, one of which he hit while reaching his hundred. At the time of writing, Kishan got out for 111 to Mukesh Kumar, as Gaikwad steps back on the field alongside Baba Indrajith as India C are 300/3 post-Tea.

IND vs AUS: Ricky Ponting said, “Virat Kohli played a big role with his captaincy in turning the cricket around for India in overseas dominance, the influence of someone like him around a team is great”

0

IND vs AUS: The BGT has been the year’s most highly anticipated Test series, as several cricket greats have come to the limelight to mention this as one of the finest ever competitions and the biggest challenge for both teams.

Ex-players like Sourav Ganguly and often great Indian skipper Ricky Ponting have come forward to make bold claims regarding the future of the game. Also, Sunil Gavaskar, an Indian legend and Mathew Hayden has emerged to be the ones who commented on the series and their form of players.

After having complimented players like the great Rohit Sharma, and Virat Kohli. Next, players like Labuschagne have emerged who have stated India to be firm opposition and even the likes of Australia’s only test spinner Nathan Lyon have stated Indian youngster Yashasvi Jaiswal to be the most feared batter for his aggressive mentality in the longest format.

Steve Smith recently praised Kohli’s excellence in the game, as he also referred Kohli to have an Aussie mentality in the game known for his on-field aggression and great pursuit in the game.

Ricky Ponting has recently mentioned in an interview with Sky Sports, that India’s performance in overseas conditions has improved since when Kohli was granted as India captain in 2017.

ALSO READ: IND vs BAN: 3 Key Player battles to watch out for in the First Test between India and Bangladesh

Not only Virat Kohli was appointed as the captain, but also during this phase from 2017-21, Ravi Shastri was seen in the role of Indian Head coach. Virat Kohli has largely contributed to India’s success as a player, but alongside that, he has played a vital role as a skipper as well, since India emerged as test series winners for the first time on Australian soil.

However, despite all India lost the WTC final to New Zealand first in 2021 and then later the second consecutive final against the Aussies in 2023, when Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma were the captains respectively. Ponting earlier expressed that he eyes Australia winning the BGT this time around 3-1, as Australia would look to turn the tables. These two teams are once again likely the two teams to make it to yet another WTC final.
