ICC World Cup 2023 Points Table Updated (October 24) after Afghanistan defeated Pakistan

ICC World Cup 2023 Points Table: In a historic moment for the Afghans in the ICC World Cup 2023, they defeated Pakistan at the Chepauk Stadium last night. Hashmatullah Shahidi-led Afghanistan got past Pakistan by eight wickets in a slowish track and brought up their second victory of the tournament. The win powered Afghanistan to sixth place in the updated ICC World Cup 2023 Points Table after the fixture.

Before this, Afghanistan had never got past Pakistan in 50-overs cricket, but now, they have flipped the tables and embarrassed the team that was once touted to be the front-runner to be the champions of the tournament. To add more flavour to the win, Afghanistan had earlier smashed the defending champions, England, in match 13 a couple of days ago.

Talking about the Afghanistan vs Pakistan fixture, Pakistan amassed 282 runs in their quota of 50 overs after losing seven wickets. The Men in Green got off to a decent start and were cruising nicely throughout the game, but the slow track never let them break the shackles. The majority of the knocks during Pakistan’s innings were more-or-less run-a-ball, barring Iftikhar Ahmed’s 40-run knock which came in just 27 deliveries.

Opener batter Abdullah Shifique scored 58 runs while skipper Babar Azam led from the front with an innings of 74 runs. Later Saud Shakeel (25 runs), Shadab Khan (40 runs), and Iftikhar Ahmed (40 runs) also chipped in and contributed to the total of 282 runs.

The score plundered by Pakistan was decent enough to put them in a confident position, however, Afghanistan’s batting made the proceedings tough for the former World Cup winners. Afghanistan was outstanding from get going and never let any bowler hamper their chase.

The opening stand between Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran, of 130 runs, set the tone for the rest of the chase. Pakistan were pushed in complete backfoot at the very first delivery which went for a boundary.

After everything went in vain, Shaheen Shah Afridi in his second spell broke the opening partnership between Gurbaz and Zadran at a score of 130 runs. But then the incoming batter Rahmat Shah started off quickly where Gurbaz had left and didn’t give a chance to Pakistani bowlers to have an upper hand in the contest.

Later Hasan Ali got rid of Ibrahim Zadran, 13 runs shy of his century, and the incoming batter Hashmatullah Shahidi again put pressure on the opposition to take his team home.

Afghanistan chased down the 282 runs total with one over to spare. The win powered Afghanistan to move past England, Netherlands, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh in the ICC World Cup 2023 Points Table.

With four points under their belt, Afghanistan currently stands tall in the sixth position after playing five matches in the ICC World Cup 2023. Below are complete details of ICC World Cup 2023 Points Table Updated (October 24) after Afghanistan defeated Pakistan.

(24 Oct) ICC ODI World Cup 2023: Players with Most Runs and Most Wickets: Afghanistan pulled off another upset and ended the Pakistan jinx in ODI cricket. An excellent all-around show by Afghans notched up a record-shattering clinical 8-wicket victory against Babar Azam-led Pakistan at Chepauk.

A night to remember for Afghanistan! Celebrations were all-around, lap of honor, dance, and fireworks- after all, it was their first ODI win against Pakistan, and that too at the stage of ICC ODI World Cup 2023. After England, Afghanistan demolished another giant of world cricket and that is huge for a team like Afghanistan.

Pakistan have lost three in a bounce now. They haven’t been the same Pakistan after 14th October as they were before. Batters provided the base but it was their fielding and bowling that didn’t stand up to the mark. Babar admitted in the post-match conference- “This hurts us. We had a good total. In the bowling, we aren’t up to the mark because we are not taking wickets in the middle overs. In the World Cup, if you are not good in even one department, then you’ll lose the match. In the field, we didn’t stop boundaries and gave away runs, that cost us.

Winning to toss, Pakistan opted to bat first and posted a 50+ runs opening stand. This was the first time in this World Cup that Pakistan didn’t lose any wickets in 1st Powerplay. Shafique backed his abilities and notched up an excellent 50 against four Afghan spinners on a Chennai pitch. Rizwan failed this time but a captain’s knock by Babar provided a good base to the middle order.

Saud Shakeel and Shadab Khan added a few runs to the scoreboard but it was Ifthikar’s 40 off 27, that really had to be the most impactful inning for Pakistan. Noor Ahmed picked up 3 wickets and Afghanistan restricted Pakistan to 282. Nothing more than 270 was ever chased by Afghanistan against any team in the World Cup and this was a different challenge altogether when it was MA Chidambaram Surface.

A solid 130-run opening stand by Rahmanullah Gurbaz(65) and Ibrahim Zadran(87) that straight-forward put Pakistan into the backfoot. Rahmat Shah(77*) and skipper Hashmatullah Shahidi(48*) ensured no further damage and gifted their nation an unmatchable present.

Mitch Santner of New Zealand is still at the top with 12 wickets. Surprisingly, none of the Afghan bowlers are in the Top 20 in the list and Naveen-Ul-Haq is the most successful Afghan bowler at 21st number with 6 wickets.

IPL 2024: Rajasthan Royals rope in former Mumbai Indians player as their new  bowling coach

0

Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Rajasthan Royals (RR) have made a new signing for the IPL 2024. The winners of the inaugural edition of the league have roped in former Mumbai Indians bowling coach Shane Bond as their new assistant bowling coach.

Shane Bond last week parted ways with Mumbai Indians and he immediately joined Rajasthan Royals. The former New Zealand pacer had a long stint with five-time champions and had great success with the team, playing an instrumental role in their success.

Shane Bond joined Mumbai Indians in 2015 and under him team won 4 titles. His tenure saw the team turning young pacers into big superstars. He played a staggering role in shaping Jasprit Bumrah and many other pacers.

Rajasthan Royals would be hoping for him to make a similar kind of impact in the team and take them to glory. Shane Bond, who is considered as one of the greats of the game, will be working with the likes of Prasidh Krishna, Navdeep Saini, Sandeep Sharma, Kuldeep Sen, Obed McCoy, KM Asif and Kuldip Yadav.

As Mumbai Indians parted ways with Shane Bond, they acquired the services of Lasith Malinga and made the official announcement. The former Sri Lanka pacer ironically served as bowling coach of Rajasthan Royals for the last seasons and him coming to Mumbai and Bond going o Rajasthan looks like a sort of trade.

Lasith Malinga has been the internal part of the Mumbai Indians. He played a player for them till 2021 and is their leading wicket-taker in the IPL. However, this time he will be coaching the team. He did a similar job in 2019 as well when he was their mentor but came back to play in 2020.

PAK vs AFG Dream11 Prediction 22nd Match World Cup 2023 | Pakistan vs Afghanistan Dream11 Team, MA Chidambaram Stadium Pitch Report, Pakistan Playing 11

PAK vs AFG Dream11 Prediction: Contest number 22 of the ICC World Cup 2023 will see a clash between Babar Azam’s Pakistan and Afghanistan spearheaded by Hashmatullah Shahidi. Pakistan will take on Afghanistan at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on October 23rd. The game starts at 2:00 PM IST in Chennai. This article will lead you through PAK vs AFG Dream11 Prediction 22nd Match World Cup 2023 | Pakistan vs Afghanistan Dream11 Team, MA Chidambaram Stadium Pitch Report, Pakistan Playing 11.

With the World Cup 2023 almost reaching the end of the first phase, it has now begun to take a definite shape and show us a bigger picture. The teams have now come under the radar of performing consistently and, if not, then let go of their World Cup dreams.

Pakistan and Afghanistan are on the same territory currently. A loss from here on would mean Afghanistan has no room for further improvement in the tournament, while Pakistan’s loss against Afghanistan would put them in a situation of do-or-die for the remainder of the World Cup 2023.

The battle between Pakistan and Afghanistan lies on a similar path as the two have performed more-or-less evenly. The only separation between the two teams is just a solitary victory, which Pakistan has.

Pakistan hasn’t had a great time in India so far in the World Cup, having already lost two matches. Their top order hasn’t been effective and often puts the rest of the batting lineup in serious trouble. To add to this, their bowling department has also not been up to the standards they had set for themselves, especially the spinners.

To put their batting woes into perspective, Pakistan has not hit a single six in the powerplay since the beginning of 2023, while Afghanistan’s Rahmanullah Gurbaz has alone hit seven in the World Cup 2023.

On the other side, Afghanistan looks a better side than Pakistan. Their top order has decently fired and their bowlers have shown encouraging performances as well. The trio of Rashid Khan, Mujeeb ur Rahman, and Mohammad Nabi will be key for Afghanistan, as they look to trump Pakistan and diminish their chances of World Cup 2023 Semi-final qualification.

Below are the complete details of the Pakistan vs Afghanistan fixture including – PAK vs AFG Dream11 Prediction 22nd Match World Cup 2023 | Pakistan vs Afghanistan Dream11 Team, MA Chidambaram Stadium Pitch Report, Pakistan Playing 11.

India won the toss and the skipper chose another chasing. A couple of forced changes in the team due to Hardik Pandya’s unavailability but the team looked at a good balance. Bumrah was precise as always and Siraj took the first wickets from the other end in the form of Conway. Shami, who replaced Shardul Thakur, got the ball for 9th over and straight-away bowled Will Young in the very first ball.

Rachin Ravindra and Daryl Mitchell constructed fine innings where they both added 159 runs together. It was Shami again, who broke the partnership and sent Rachin back at 75 runs. Shami then just blew New Zealand by storm and took a fifer in no time. When New Zealand were looking for a 300+ total, he made India come back at the match and restrict them. Daryl Mitchell weaved an excellent 130 off 127 balls and put his team to a competitive total of 273.

Rohit is in golden touch. He provided a flying start to the team and straight forward takes the pressure away from the team and put it to the opposition. With the help of four 4s and four 6s, he gave a blasting start and Virat kept the pace alive. Virat crafted his innings in such a way that he took the team comfortably home but he got out just 5 runs from his century. Jadeja won the match for India with his 39*(44) and India won the first-ever ICC match against New Zealand since 2003.

PAK vs AFG Rain Prediction, Weather Forecast of Chennai, and Pitch Report. Who Will Win Pakistan vs Afghanistan ICC World Cup 2023?

PAK vs AFG: Pakistan will lock horns against their Asian counterparts Afghanistan on 23 October at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai. Never lost any ODI to Afghanistan, Pakistan will enter the ground with an aim to maintain this good record in their favor at Chennai. It will be an overcast but hot and scorching day in Chennai and this post reads the PAK vs AFG Rain Prediction, Weather Forecast of Chennai, and Pitch Report.

One-sided records always look ravishing to the eyes of the record-holding nation and this time it is Pakistan against Afghanistan. Afghanistan have never won any ODI match against Pakistan in the past and Pakistan hold up the winning record of 7-0 in favor of themselves. But there are high chances this time around that Afghans can break the Pakistan jinx at Chennai, India.

Afghanistan entered the tournament riding over some of the best performances of their lives but got a really bad start. They lost the first two matches against Bangladesh and India but made a strong comeback against England and won by 69 runs. Though they lost the next against New Zealand by as many as 149 runs, Afghanistan would like to erase those memories and take on Pakistan with a purpose.

Pakistan, on the other hand, got a strong start winning both of their first matches, they also entered the top 4 of the ICC World Cup Points table once but things turned around after they met India. They lost to India by 7 wickets and next they also lost to out-of-form Australia by 60+ runs.

Pakistan are going through form issues with some players when they have a weak bench strength. The opener Imam-Ul-Haq has been out of form for a couple of months but there is no replacement option on the bench except for Fakhar who, himself, suffering through a similar phase.

The skipper Babar Azam has shown some glimpses of his form but not an innings of his standards. However, he is a player of the big stage and hopefully, he will prove it today again. Rizwan has been in exceptional form and he is there at the top 3 run-scorers list as well so he will be looking for more runs.

Down below is the PAK vs AFG Rain Prediction, Weather Forecast of Chennai, Pitch Report, and Prediction of who will win the Pakistan vs Afghanistan match:

PAK vs AFG Rain Prediction, Weather Forecast of Chennai (weather.com)

A hot but overcast day in Chennai City. Chennai has very hot and scorchy kind of weather throughout the year. Today, on 23 October 2023, the temperature of Chennai City is expected to peak at 33°C in the afternoon and drop further as the sun goes down.

Humidity is predicted to hover between 50-70% in the match hours and winds will gust towards the Southeast at a speed of <12Kmh during the day.

PAK vs AFG Rain Prediction

There are very minimal chances of rain in Chennai City of Tamil Nadu. The rain possibility is under 5% during the match hours, however, there will be ~40% of the sky covered under clouds. An overcast day for Pakistan vs Afghanistan is what weather.com predicts. Though, as it is aforementioned, the weather here in Chennai is usually hot so expect a tough day for athletes on the ground.

Pitch Report of MA Chidambaram Stadium

A ground well known for its spin-friendly nature, MA Chidambaram Stadium (also known as Chepauk) welcomes the Asian sides. Afghanistan and Pakistan, both have a wealth of good spinners and spin-playing batters, so it will be an even-steven contest.

The pitch often has strong carry and bounce at the beginning, keeping seam bowlers comfortable. Spinners gain the edge as the game progresses, and hitting can be difficult when the surface weakens in the latter innings. A captain who wins the toss may choose to bat first and put up a significant total.

Who will Win Pakistan vs Afghanistan?

Pakistan looked uncomfortable with their Afghanistan fixture at Chennai prior to the start of the World Cup. Pakistan have good spinners in their team but none of them even touches the bars of Mujeeb and Rashid and that is where the PCB concern starts. But Pakistan do have batters like Babar, Imam, and Rizwan who are very strong when it comes to playing spin.

Though the contest is neck-to-neck as it is a spin-friendly surface, Pakistan will win the game owing to their better batting line-up and in-form fast bowling.
