IND vs NZ: ICC World Cup 2023 Points Table Updated (October 22), India become No 1 in Ranking, Highest Run Getter, Most Wickets

IND vs NZ: ICC World Cup 2023 Points Table Updated: India and New Zealand often produce a thrilling contest when they play against each other, especially during the World Cups. The two sides met in Dharmshala and there was so much anticipation for this game with both teams being unbeaten before this game. The epic contest unfolded and India once again proved its mettle as they defeated New Zealand by four wickets in match 21. Subsequently, Team India has now become the number 1 ranked team. This article will lead you through IND vs NZ: ICC World Cup 2023 Points Table Updated (October 22), India become No 1 in Ranking, Highest Run Getter, Most Wickets.

Team India chased down the 274 runs total against New Zealand with two overs and four wickets to spare. Maestro batter Virat Kohli once again rose to the occasion and led India to a comfortable win against the Kiwis. Kohli stood tall and played a mesmerizing knock of 95 runs off 104 deliveries. In fact, it would have been Kohli’s another century, but he holed out in deep mid-wicket trying to put the final nail in the coffin.

Skipper Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill started off India’s innings on a strong note. The two scored 71 runs before the dismissal of the skipper, who played a rather aggressive innings of 46 runs off 40 deliveries.

Soon after Rohit’s departure, Gill was also dismissed and the Kiwis were on top. However, Shreyas Iyer and Virat Kohli stabilized the innings and 52-run partnership. Kohli then partnered with KL Rahul for a 50-run partnership.

Things looked pretty simple for Team India, but KL Rahul’s wicket brought gloom. Soon, Suryakumar Yadav also was dismissed as a result of an embarrassing mix-up between him and Virat Kohli. However, it was the pair of Ravindra Jadeja and Virat Kohli, who again, got the innings back on track and added crucial runs to take the team close to the win. Ravindra Jadeja (39*) struck the winning blow to New Zealand with a boundary.

Earlier in the contest, New Zealand were asked to bat first by the Indian skipper. The Kiwis riding on the back of Daryl Mitchell and Rachin Ravindra’s fine knocks, put up 273 runs total in 50 overs.

While Daryl Mitchell played a fantastic knock of 130 runs in 127 deliveries, Rachin Ravindra scored 75 runs off 87 deliveries before getting dismissed by Mohammad Shami. Barring the two aforementioned batters, no New Zealand player could contribute significantly to their team total. The next best score was 23 runs by Glenn Phillips.

Speedster Mohammad Shami scalped a fifer in the process and became the only Indian bowler to have two five-wicket hauls in the history of the World Cup.

With the win over New Zealand, Team India continues their unhindered run in the ongoing ICC World Cup 2023. After playing five matches in the tournament, the team remains unbeaten. India claimed the top spot in the ICC World Cup 2023 points table following the win with 10 points.

IND vs NZ: Most Wickets for Team India in ODI World Cup History, Mohammad Shami in TOP 3

IND vs NZ: Most Wickets for Team India in ODI World Cup History: Veteran pacer Mohammad Shami has scaled up in the list of players who have scalped the most wickets for Team India in the ICC ODI World Cup history. Shami, who just got a place for himself in India’s playing 11 against New Zealand, took a fifer on his return and singlehandedly blocked the Kiwis from racking up a mammoth total in Dharmshala.

It’s worth noting that Mohammad Shami was left out of India’s first playing 11 owing to him being slightly low on batting prowesses. The pacer didn’t feature in India’s first four ODI World Cup 2023 games against Australia, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Bangladesh.

However, an ankle injury to all-rounder Hardik Pandya during the game against Bangladesh proved as a blessing in disguise for Shami, who was eagerly waiting for his chance in the ongoing edition of the ODI World Cup.

Shami immediately made an impact with his sensational bowling skill in Dharmshala in the game against New Zealand. The pacer picked a fifer on his return dismissing the Kiwi set batters, who otherwise had a brilliant outing.

The speedster began with a scalp of Will Young in the very first ball he bowled in the contest. He then removed well-set Rachin Ravindra, who was batting at 75 runs. For his third and fourth wicket, Mohammad Shami picked Mitchell Santner and Matt Henry. To complete his five-wicket haul in the World Cup, Shami got rid of dangerous Daryl Mitchell, who had scored 130 runs.

Interestingly, this was Shami’s second five-wicket haul in the ICC ODI World Cup, having picked one during the 2019 edition of the tournament in England. To add more to his achievement, Shami became the only Indian bowler to have picked two five-wicket haul in the history of the World Cup.

Mohammad Shami goes past Kumble in list of Most Wickets in World Cup History

The scalp of New Zealand opener Will Young helped Mohammad Shami go past legendary spinner Anil Kumble in the list of most wickets for Team India in ODI World Cup History. Kumble was placed third in the list with 31 wickets in the ODI World Cup history, but Shami toppled him and got third place in the elite list with the wicket of Will Young.

Later, Shami went on to pick another four wickets and took his total wickets tally to 36 in the ODI World Cup history.

Now, the pacer is only behind former left-arm pacer Zaheer Khan and Javagal Srinath, who have sealed the top two spots in the elite list. Zaheer Khan is placed atop the ranking, while Javagal Srinath is placed second to Zaheer. Both the bowlers have scalped 44 wickets each in the history of the World Cup.

Below is the complete list of players with most wickets for Team India in the ODI World Cup History.

  • 44 – Javagal Srinath
  • 36* – Mohammed Shami

IND vs NZ: Rohit Sharma on the verge of achieving a huge milestone in international cricket

IND vs NZ: Two undefeated teams in the ICC World Cup 2023, India and New Zealand will be facing each other on Sunday (22nd October) in Dharamsala. The Rohit Sharma-led side has dominated all the opposition they have played so far but it’ll be a different challenge for them. New Zealand has had better off them many times but this time they would be hoping to turn the tides.

IND vs NZ: Rohit Sharma on the verge of achieving a huge milestone in international cricket

Going into the IND vs NZ game, the focus no doubt will be on the Indian skipper Rohit Sharma. The opening batter has looked a completely different version of himself in the ongoing ICC World Cup 2023 and is one of the main reasons behind the team’s success.

Rohit Sharma is on the cusp of achieving a huge milestone. The Indian captain is 93 runs away from completing 18000 runs in international cricket. With the way he has been batting, it’s fair to say that we might witness him complete it in the IND vs NZ game.

Rohit Sharma currently has 17,907 runs from  455 games. He’s arguably one of the best openers that have played the game of cricket. He started opening in 2013 and since then his career has changed as he has established himself into a great of Indian cricket.

Rohit Sharma has looked to attack the bowlers early on his innings, which is one of the main reason why India are having a staggering start. His attacking approach in the ICC World Cup 2023 has allowed other team members to settle in and score runs easily.

The Indian captain Rohit Sharma has led from the front in the ongoing ICC World Cup 2023 and has marshalled his troops well. He’s amongst the leading run-getters in the tournament and is the highest run-scorer from India.

Rohit Sharma has 265 runs from 4 innings at a rollicking average of over 66. He’s second on the list of leading run-getters in the tournament. The batter will have a great chance to lead the charts after the IND vs NZ game. He has Mohammad Rizwan ahead of him, who has 294 runs.

IND vs NZ Rain Prediction, Weather Forecast of Dharamshala, and Pitch Report. Will Rain Interrupt India vs New Zealand ICC World Cup 2023?

IND vs NZ: The stage is all set for India to take on New Zealand in the 21st match of ICC World Cup 2023 on 22 October at the Picturesque HPCA Stadium in the lap of the Dhauladhar mountain range, Dharamshala. With slight chances of rain at Dharamshala, the Men in Blue will be keen to quench their thirst for an ICC win against the Blackcaps. In this post, we present you the IND vs NZ Rain Prediction, Weather Forecast of Dharamshala, and Pitch Report.

India and New Zealand have been the only undefeated and undisputed teams in this World Cup to date but the dominance of one will end today. One of the teams will remain at the top with 0 losses and the other will have 1 loss in their kitty. It is the toughest contest and one of the most important contests for team India in this tournament for the position of the team as well as the morale of the individuals.

There are a few injury concerns for both teams. For India, Hardik Pandya went through an ankle injury in the last game, Ishan Kishan is unavailable, and Surya Kumar got a forearm injury. Now Rohit and Dravid have a puzzling situation where they have to fill Pandya’s spot when there is no like-for-like replacement for him. There aren’t much of options available for them.

DON’T MISS: More Injuries for India, after Hardik, Suryakumar, Ishan Kishan feared injured

Ashwin is the only choice left for the selectors as Surya and Ishan won’t be able to play. Given that the New Zealand XI is predicted to have five left-handers, Rohit may have thought about using his best off-spinner in this match. But if Ashwin were to replace Thakur, India would only have a 2-3 seam-spin assault, which might not be the best choice in Dharamsala.

IND vs NZ Rain Prediction, Weather Forecast of Dharamshala, and Pitch Report. Will Rain Interrupt India vs New Zealand ICC World Cup 2023?
India vs New Zealand: Ashwin likely to get a slot

Kane may not be ready for this match as well, so they are unlikely to welcome Kane Williamson back just yet. The Blackcaps’ bowling lineup and batting order are both fairly consistent. Though Tim Southee is ultimately fit, will New Zealand offer him a spot? But if they do, he will bring an impressive record in one-day internationals against Rohit (dismissed 5 times) and Kohli (dismissed 6 times).

Overall, it is going to be a neck-to-neck match. New Zealand have never lost against India since 2003 in any ICC event and this time again it is the stage of the World Cup if they can do the same. Down below is the IND vs NZ Rain Prediction, Weather Forecast of Dharamshala, and Pitch Report.

IND vs NZ Weather Forecast

IND vs NZ Rain Prediction, Weather Forecast of Dharamshala, and Pitch Report. Will Rain Interrupt India vs New Zealand ICC World Cup 2023?
IND vs NZ Weather Forecast of Dharamshala (www.weather.com)

A cool and overcast day in Dharamshala City. As winter has hit the Northern Himalayas, Dharamshala has very dynamic kind of weather in this part of the year. Today, on 22 October 2023, the temperature of Dharamshala City is expected to peak at 19°C in the afternoon and drop as low as 14°C further as the sun goes down.

Humidity is predicted to hover between 60-70% in the match hours and winds will gust towards the Northeast at a speed of ~8Kmh during the day. Tom Latham revealed that Dew had begun to form as early as 5:00 PM in the days leading up to the game, so batting second might just continue to be an advantage.

IND vs NZ Rain Prediciton

There are moderate chances of rain in Dharamshala City of Himachal Pradesh. The rain possibility is 20% during the match hours, however, there will be more than 60% of the sky covered under clouds. An overcast day for India vs New Zealand is what weather.com predicts. Though, as it is aforementioned, the weather here in Dharamshala is very dynamic. It can rain anytime when it is Dharamshala but we must hope for a full 100-over game.

IND vs NZ: Pitch Report of HPCA Stadium, Dharamshala

In the first three games, the HPCA Stadium’s surface did its job well. Only one of the three matches has been a day/night game, with the other two all taking place during the day. In the first day-night game, the swing and aid the bowlers received in the evening were noticeably different from the daytime games.

Dharamsala has been a site where the fast bowlers have found a degree of joy, though the batch of white balls used in the World Cup hasn’t swung much anywhere else. It is also anticipated today. The bowling will be pretty exciting thanks to the top swing bowlers like Trent Boult and Jasprit Bumrah.

IND vs NZ: More Injuries for India, after Hardik, Suryakumar, Ishan Kishan feared injured ahead of India vs New Zealand clash

IND vs NZ: More Injuries for India, after Hardik, Suryakumar, Ishan Kishan feared injured ahead of India vs New Zealand clash: In a troubling development for Team India ahead of their contest against New Zealand in Dharmshala, senior batter Suryakumar Yadav and wicketkeeper batter Ishan Kishan have been feared injured. The two batters sustained injuries during the optional net session held in Dharmshala, a night before the IND vs NZ clash.

Suryakumar Yadav, who was anticipated to make his World Cup debut against New Zealand, took a blow on his forearm during the net session as he was having a few throwdowns. The batter was later seen with the ice pack on his forearm, which is a concerning sign for the Indian team.

The incident happened as Suryakumar Yadav was having quick sidearm throwdowns from specialist D Raghavendra when one of the deliveries directed toward him struck his forearm, right above the wrist.

The injury forced Suryakumar Yadav to put an end to his net session and was seen in evident distress after the blow. The team physio and doctor were constantly in touch with the batter as he was applying the ice pack.

Ishan Kishan, on the other side, Ishan Kishan had a bee sting on the back of his head during his net session under the floodlights on October 21. The young gloveman was seen running and jumping in pain after he was struck by a bee.

Now it remains to be seen whether both the aforementioned batters will be fit enough to play in the game against New Zealand in Dharmshala on October 22.

IND vs NZ: Dravid hinted at inclusion of Suryakumar Yadav & Ishan Kishan

Notably, on the eve of the India vs New Zealand clash, Indian head coach Rahul Dravid had hinted towards the possibility of playing Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan against the Kiwis at the HPCA Stadium.

“I mean it is nice to have Ishan and he’s been, like you said rightly, he’s been playing well. He is a left-hander, But again, Surya has also come into some great form against Australia, as we saw him play a couple of fantastic innings. Absolutely fantastic player against spin, as we know; left-arm spin or off spin, or any kind of spin, for that matter. Plus, the role may be for a middle overs role, so we just have to see which one,” said Dravid in the pre-match conference.

He later explained that if the team requires someone at the top or middle-order then the obvious choice would be Ishan Kishan, but if there is someone who can act as enforcer in the lower order then it will be Suryakumar Yadav.

Interestingly, the choice of including Suryakumar Yadav or Ishan Kishan in the Playing 11 gets crucial with the injury to all-rounder Hardik Pandya. Had the all-rounder been fit, there would be no chatter of change in the playing 11, but as he is unavailable for the game, then India will have to rethink of their playing 11.

Notably, Hardik Pandya suffered an ankle injury during India’s last game against Bangladesh in Pune. The all-rounder was immediately withdrawn from the rest of the game and was taken for scans. Later in the day, the BCCI confirmed that Hardik will miss India’s next game against New Zealand due to the injury.

ICC World Cup 2023 Points Table Updated (October 21) after South Africa vs England, Ranking, South Africa Enter TOP 3, Most Runs, Most Wickets

ICC World Cup 2023 Points Table Updated: In an epic contest at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, South Africa have brutally hammered defending champions, England, by a massive 229 runs. The Proteas handed a big defeat to England and subsequently made a big leap in the ICC World Cup 2023 Points Table. South Africa is now placed in the top 3 of the standings with a colossal net run rate. This article will walk you through the ICC World Cup 2023 Points Table Updated, Ranking, Most Runs, Most Wickets.

Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium is known to produce a nail-biting contest, but South Africa vs England was nowhere close to it, though, it had fireworks aplenty.

South Africa posted a mammoth 399 runs total, riding on the back of massive knocks from Hendricks, van der Dussen, Klassen, and Marco Jansen. The abovementioned batters took on England’s bowling unit and tormented them for every loose delivery they bowled throughout the innings.

After losing Quinton de Kock early in the innings, Reeza Hendricks (85) and Rassie van der Dussen (60) stitched a 125-run partnership for the second wicket. Later the baton was passed on to Aiden Markram and Heinrich Klassen, who quickly scored runs and put South Africa on a ramp for a gigantic total.

In the process, Heinrich Klassen completed his century, while Markram was dismissed after playing 42-run innings. To finish things off on a high for South Africa, pacer Marco Jansen played a knock to cherish for a lifetime as he scored 75 runs just off 42 deliveries. Jansen’s knock aided South Africa in posting 399 runs on the board, which was going to be a herculean task for England to conquer.

It required a lion-hearted effort from the defending champions, England to compete against such a big total. However, it was just not meant to be England’s day in the business.

Not a single batter from the top and middle-order could show some resistance and looked threatening. England, under pressure, lost wickets in clusters right from the start of the innings. England were 8 down at the score of 100 runs.

Late in the innings, Mark Wood (43) and Gus Atkinson (35) tried to reduce the defeat margin by stitching a partnership of 70 runs. But as it looked right from the start, South Africa prevailed in the contest by a long way and handed England a humiliating defeat by 229 runs.

This defeat will hurt England a lot as it has dented its chances of storming into the top four in the ICC World Cup 2023 Points Table. Moreover, England’s net run rate has gone for a deep dive following the loss.

On the other side, South Africa has gained two points and a big net run rate owing to the win. The Proteas are now placed third in the World Cup 2023 Points Table with three wins from four games.
