IOC Confirms Cricket will be Part of LA Olympic Games 2028: First Appearance of Cricket in the Olympic: On 16 October 2023, the IOC and ICC confirmed that cricket will be part of the Olympic Games from 2028. After 123 years, cricket was added as a sports Event in the Olympic Games. 

The International Olympic Committee(IOC) accepted the proposal of the International Cricket Council (ICC) to add cricket to the Olympic Games 2028, which is scheduled in Los Angeles, United States, in the year 2028.

In the 141st IOC Session in Mumbai on 16 October 2023, took a formal decision for the inclusion of cricket in the Olympics 2023. The ICC took multiple initiatives to Promote cricket on an International Level. As a result, the IOC added cricket to the Olympics. 

ICC continuously works in the American Continent to promote cricket. This year, ICC announced the Major Cricket League as a local league of the United States. Currently, cricket is evolving a lot, and it’s a great time to represent it on an international level.

He added, “It is so delighted that such a big achievement happened in Mumbai during the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023, which is going on in India. 

Recently, For the first time, cricket was added to the Asian Games 2022 Hangzhou, and Both Men’s and Women’s teams participated in this event. Indian Team won Gold Medals in both Men’s and Women’s cricket.

As cricket was played in the T20 format in the Asian Games, the same procedure will be followed by the IOC in the Los Angeles 2023 Olympics Games. Teams that have good rank in ICC Men’s T20I Team Ranking will get direct qualification to the quarter-finals.

India team are off to the dream start in the ICC World Cup 2023.  With the way they have played, they have become a team to beat in the tournament. They started the tournament with a resounding win against Australia and then thumped Afghanistan and Pakistan by a big margin to make it three out of three. The focus now shifts towards their fourth game, which will be played against Bangladesh on Thursday (19th September).

Although India has won three games in the ICC World Cup 2023 but Bangladesh will be a big challenge for them. Their record against them of late hasn’t been great as they just had one win against them in the last four encounters. 

India would be aware of that and would be hoping to turn things around this time in the ICC World Cup. Coming to the playing the XI, there’s no doubt that skipper Rohit Sharma along with Shubman Gill will open the innings in the IND vs BAN game.

Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja will be the two all-rounders in the team. They have done an exceptional job with the ball in the tournament. They haven’t done much with the bat but are expected to play a huge role as the tournament progresses. 

Shardul Thakur might have to face the axe for the game against Bangladesh. Mohammad Shami or R Ashwin might replace him in the team depending on the conditions. Thakur hasn’t performed well and has leaked runs as well.

ODI World Cup 2023 Points Table Latest after Australia vs Sri Lanka, Upcoming World Cup 2023 Matches, Highest Run Getter, Most Wickets All Stats: Sri Lanka extends its losing streak while Australia have broken theirs as they defeated Sri Lanka by five wickets at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on October 16. The win opened account for Australia in the ODI World Cup 2023 with two points and an upgraded net run rate.

The flip of the coin went in Sri Lanka’s favour and they opted to bat first. Sri Lanka got a fantastic opening stand with Prathum Nissanka and Kusal Perera firing at the top of the order. Both batters looked in solid touch and notched up their individual fifties without giving away their wickets.

The two stitched up 125-run partnership when the dismissal opened the room for Aussies to break in and dismantle the Lankans. Prathum Nissanka scored 61 runs and was the first wicket to fall. Later Kusal Mendis also departed with a score of 78.

Post the dismissal of the two openers, Australia never let the opposition settle in and rule the roost. Wickets fell in clusters and the entire batting lineup was wrapped in the next 84 runs. Australia bundled out Sri Lanka for 209 runs, following that dominating 125-run opening partnership.

In the process, Adam Zampa scalped four wickets, while Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins got two in their bags each. Glenn Maxwell also got one under his belt.

209 runs were never going to threaten the mighty Australians, who are known to make comebacks. However, things took a sharp turn when David Warner and Steve Smith were removed by Dilshan Madhushanka in the same over, which derailed the entire chase of the Aussies.

Mitchell Marsh and Marnus Labuschagne did some rescue work before they could take on the bowlers completely and dominate. Marsh scored a quickfire 50 runs from 51 deliveries while Labuschagne was dismissed after scoring 40 runs.

Later in the innings, Josh Inglis scored his maiden half-century in the ODI World Cup 2023 and took his side closer to the win. For the final blows, Glenn Maxwell and Marcus Stoinis played some fine shots to take their side home against Sri Lanka.

Australia won the contest by 5 wickets with 14 overs to spare. The win also ensured that Australia opened their account in the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023 Points Table, following two consecutive losses against India and South Africa.

AUS vs SL: WATCH: Livid Mitchell Starc warns SL Batter of MANKAD at the start of Australia vs Sri Lanka | ODI World Cup 2023: In a very fortunate incident for Sri Lanka during the ongoing contest against Australia at Lucknow’s Ekana Cricket Stadium, Kusal Perera got a lifeline from the Australian pacer Mitchell Starc, who didn’t inflict an easy Mankad at the start of the innings. Parera, who was well outside the crease, could have been an easy wicket for Starc, however, the pacer withdrew by giving merely a warning to the batter.

The incident took place in the very first over of the Sri Lankan innings in Lucknow. In the fourth delivery of the over, Starc, caught Kusal Perera just outside the popping crease at the non-striker’s end before he could direct the delivery towards the striker. The pacer withdrew from his run-up and the camera angles showed that the non-striker was gone by a mile, had Starc castled the wicket and appealed for it.

However, Starc merely gave a warning to Kusal Perera by saying “Don’t leave your crease,” as informed by the commentator Nassir Hussain.

Hussain also informed that he saw Mitchell Starc having a word with the on-field umpire, informing him of Kusal Perera’s act of getting a head start before the ball left his hand in the past two deliveries, just before he went for his run-up in the fourth delivery.

“After the first ball, Starc had a little word with the umpire, Kusal Perera just leaving his crease… he was saying to Kusal Perera ‘don’t leave your crease’. That’s fair enough, he’s told the umpire now he’s told the batter, stay in your crease at that end… a very eventful first over,” said Nassir Hussain on air during the Australia vs Sri Lanka first over.

Starc once again withdrew from his run-up in the fifth over and this time too Kusal Perera was at the non-striker’s end, however, the batter this time was inside the guided lines as shown by the camera angles.

Interestingly, Starc’s decision to not inflict a run-out at the non-striker’s end, famously called a Mankad, cost Australia heavily. The two Sri Lankan openers gave a solid start to the innings with both of them contributing 125 runs before the first wicket dismissal. Kusal Perera played a brilliant knock of 78 runs in 82 deliveries including 12 boundaries. He was eventually dismissed by Australian skipper Pat Cummins.

Runout at the non-striker’s end has always been a hot topic to discuss among cricket pundits. Some favour the argument while some give their views against it, although, it is a legitimate form of dismissal as said by the apex cricket body.

Mankad, as it is usually called, is well within the ‘spirit of the sport’ and the mode of dismissal is acknowledged by the ICC and the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) – the guardians of the cricket laws. The law states that a “Non-striker leaving his/her ground early,” states: “At any time from the moment the ball comes into play until the instant when the bowler would normally have been expected to release the ball, the non-striker is liable to be Run out if he/she is out of his/her ground.”

AUS vs SL: Sri Lanka in the brink of collapse against Australia

As things stand currently, Australia has got hold of the situation after getting a whack by the Sri Lankan openers early in the innings. The dismissal of the Sri Lankan openers paved the way for Australia to dominate the game and push the opposition into the backfoot, which they have successfully done so far.

The openers together stitched a 125-run partnership and took the team to a solid start, but the team now sees itself amidst hot waters. Australia has managed to get eight breakthroughs in the span of 75 runs and reduced Sri Lanka to 199/8 in 39.2 overs.
