IND vs AUS: Ricky Ponting said, “Virat Kohli played a big role with his captaincy in turning the cricket around for India in overseas dominance, the influence of someone like him around a team is great”

IND vs AUS: The BGT has been the year’s most highly anticipated Test series, as several cricket greats have come to the limelight to mention this as one of the finest ever competitions and the biggest challenge for both teams.

Ex-players like Sourav Ganguly and often great Indian skipper Ricky Ponting have come forward to make bold claims regarding the future of the game. Also, Sunil Gavaskar, an Indian legend and Mathew Hayden has emerged to be the ones who commented on the series and their form of players.

After having complimented players like the great Rohit Sharma, and Virat Kohli. Next, players like Labuschagne have emerged who have stated India to be firm opposition and even the likes of Australia’s only test spinner Nathan Lyon have stated Indian youngster Yashasvi Jaiswal to be the most feared batter for his aggressive mentality in the longest format.

Steve Smith recently praised Kohli’s excellence in the game, as he also referred Kohli to have an Aussie mentality in the game known for his on-field aggression and great pursuit in the game.

Ricky Ponting has recently mentioned in an interview with Sky Sports, that India’s performance in overseas conditions has improved since when Kohli was granted as India captain in 2017.

Not only Virat Kohli was appointed as the captain, but also during this phase from 2017-21, Ravi Shastri was seen in the role of Indian Head coach. Virat Kohli has largely contributed to India’s success as a player, but alongside that, he has played a vital role as a skipper as well, since India emerged as test series winners for the first time on Australian soil.

However, despite all India lost the WTC final to New Zealand first in 2021 and then later the second consecutive final against the Aussies in 2023, when Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma were the captains respectively. Ponting earlier expressed that he eyes Australia winning the BGT this time around 3-1, as Australia would look to turn the tables. These two teams are once again likely the two teams to make it to yet another WTC final.

England vs Australia: Travis Head scored 30 runs (4,4,6,6,6,4) against Sam Curran in an over

England vs Australia: Australian opener Travis Head was in great form in the first T20I match between England and Australia. Head scored a quick half-century in just 23 balls, and during this, he scored 30 runs (4, 4, 6, 6, 6, 4) in an over against Sam Curran.

A Travis-storm arose at The Rose Bowl in Southampton when Sam Curran came to bowl the fifth over of the innings. Head hit two fours in the first two balls, then three consecutive sixes and ended the over by hitting a four on the last ball.

After conceding two boundaries off the first two balls, Sam Curran tried to bowl short balls against Head but that didn’t work for him. On the third ball, the Australian opener played a pull shot over the square-leg region, hit a six over the mid-wicket region off the fourth ball and aimed for the off-side boundary off the fifth ball for the six.

Saqib Mahmood dismissed the dangerous-looking Travis Head in the last ball of the sixth over by Jordan Cox.

In the first T20I match of the Australia tour of England, the visiting team defeated the hosts by 28 runs and took a 1-0 lead in the series. The second match of the three-match T20I series will be played on 13 September in Cardiff.

Test Match Abandoned? AFG vs NZ Test Day 4 Called Off Without Toss

AFG vs NZ Test Day 4: Quite strange that it is Stumps of Day 4 and the coin is yet to be flipped! Yes, day four of the only test between Afghanistan and New Zealand is called off without the toss.

BCCI offered Afghanistan to host New Zealand and with both teams interested, Afghanistan were set to host New Zealand in India for a one-off test. The AFG vs NZ Test contest was scheduled to be played from Sept 9 to Sept 12.

Afghanistan Cricket Board’s official said that the BCCI offered them Kanpur, Bengaluru and Noida as the options for the test match and they chose Noida because it was closer to Delhi and connectivity from Kabul was better.

Noida city in India faced heavy to very heavy rainfall on 8th September and there wasn’t the facility of full ground covering so there were big damps on the offside. The ground staff was on its maximum efforts but they could not make the ground ready to play and the day was called off at around 4:00 PM.

The weather was pleasant, with clear skies throughout the day. However, the heavy rains from the past few weeks had already caused significant damage, preventing the ground staff from preparing the field adequately. The heavy downpour on the evening of Day 1 further complicated their efforts, making the task even more challenging for the grounds team.

The ground staff put in a tremendous effort, replacing grass patches, using fans to dry the surface, and operating the super soppers since the previous day. Despite their hard work, the results were not as effective as expected. By the first hour of Day 3, rain had resumed, leading to yet another day being called off. This must be highly frustrating for both sets of players.

Greater Noida Sports Complex Ground, Greater Noida

There was no proper drainage facility at the  Greater Noida Sports Complex Ground and the teams stayed in their hotel rooms. Today, on Day 4, the covers are still on the ground and the condition looks no better and the day is called off.

There have been many instances when the Test matches got abandoned in the past and it seems this test is also going to the list.

If there is any game possible tomorrow, the result of the AFG vs NZ Test is almost unexpected but might be possible if both sides declare their one innings, and then just one innings will decide the result of the AFG vs NZ Test match.

Travis Head and Adam Zampa star as Australia defeat England by 28 runs in the first T20I

The 2024 Australian tour of England started off on a really fantastic note as Mitchell Marsh and his men managed to reign supreme in the first T20 International of the three-game Twenty Twenty series against the Three Lions.

A quickfire half-century from opening batter Travis Head and a bowling master-class from leggie Adam Zampa helped the Kangaroos secure a comfortable 28-run victory and the 2021 T20 World Cup winners now lead the series by 1-0.

The visitors got all-out for 179 runs in their 19.3 overs on Wednesday as they failed to capitalise on the amazing start given to their side by the opening duo of Travis Head (59 runs in 23 balls) and Matthew Short (41 runs in 26 balls), who stitched an opening partnership of 86 runs at the Utilita Bowl Stadium of Southampton.

Spin bowling duo of Liam Livingstone (3-22) and Adil Rashid (1-23) ensured that the Aussies weren’t able to score runs freely in the middle phase of their inning and some miserable shot-selection by the Australian batters allowed England to gain control.

Seamers Saqib Mahmood (2-21) and Jofra Archer (2-31) got rid of the tailenders quickly and the visitors ended their inning at 179 runs.

The Mitchell Marsh-led team had raced to a score of 118-2 and looked set post a total of more than 200 runs but they lost their remaining eight wickets in quick succession and managed to score just 61 runs in the remaining ten overs of their inning.

Chasing down a total of 180 runs in familiar conditions looked like an easy task for the Three Lions but their batters were not able to find any answers against the bowling heroics of the Australian bowlers the visitors bundled out the home side for a disappointing score of 151 runs in 19.2 overs.

Sean Abbot (3-28) and Adam Zampa (2-20) were the best bowlers of the night and they received an ample amount of support from the likes of Josh Hazlewood (2-32), Cameron Green (1-14), Marcus Stoinis (1-30) and Xavier Bartlett (1-26). Overall, it was a complete effort with both bat and ball from the Mighty Aussies.

This win over England was Australia’s fourth-successive T20 International victory after they whitewashed Scotland by a margin of 3-0 in Edinburgh.

The visitors are no doubt happy about the win but they are worried about the fitness of seamer Xavier Bartlett who limped his way off the ground as he failed to complete his final over.

“We certainly were on track to get a score of 200 and we gave our best to stuff-it-up,” Australia’s skipper Mitchell Marsh said in a laughing way in the post-match presentation.

Updated ICC Test Batting Rankings on 11th September | Indian and Sri Lankan players rise in the rankings

Cricket’s governing body, the International Cricket Council (ICC) recently revealed the updated ICC Men’s Test player rankings on the 11th of September, 2024.

The updated rankings see England’s hard hitting batter Harry Brook slip down by seven positions, while India’s three batters have risen in the rankings by one-spot each.

Joe Root, the premier batter of the Three Lions, continues to reign supreme at the top of ICC’s Test batting rankings despite scoring just 13 and 12 runs in the third test match at the Oval against Sri Lanka, though his rating points have seen a decrease from 922 to 899, which provides an opportunity to New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson and Aussie batter Steve Smith to close down the gap between themselves and Root.

Similarly, another English batter, Harry Brook, has dropped in the batting rankings by seven spots to the 12th position after managing to score just 19 and three-runs in the third test against the Sri Lankans.

Ollie Pope’s inning of 154 runs has helped him make a jump of seven places to joint 27th spot along with Angelo Mathews while young sensation Jamie Smith moved by six places to the 30th rank after scoring a quick fifty in the second inning.

However, England batters were not the only ones who made gains in the rankings. Six batters of Sri-Lanka have made massive gains in ICC’s recently updated Test batting rankings thanks to their historic eight-wicket victory over England in the third & final Test-Match at the Oval.

The Island Nation secured their first away test victory in more-than-a-decade in the third-test match against the Three Lions, with captain Dhananjaya-de-Silva, opener Pathum Nissanka and middle order batter Kamindu Mendis starring with the bat.

Skipper De Silva was the top scorer for his side having played a crucial knock of 69 runs in the first inning, which allowed him to achieve his Test career’s best ranking batting wise, as he jumped from 16th to the 13th rank.

Pathum Nissanka and Kamindu Mendis on the other hand, also achieved their Test career’s highest ranks, with the left handed batter rising by six spots to the 19th place thanks to his fifty against England while Nissanka’s fantastic knocks of 64 and 127* runs helped him to make a huge jump of 42 places to the 39th place.

Talking about the Indian players, despite not playing a test match since March of this year, the trio of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Yashasvi Jaiswal have seen improvisations in their test rankings.

The Indian captain has moved to the fifth position, while his opening partner Yashasvi Jaiswal is now sitting at the sixth place of ICC’s Test batting-rankings. Kohli, on the other hand, has occupied the seventh position.

IND vs BAN: 3 Key Player battles to watch out for in the First Test between India and Bangladesh

0

IND vs BAN: India will begin their hectic test schedule with the encounter against Bangladesh on the 19th of this month at Chennai. This will be the initiation of India’s red ball era before the WTC.

Playing against Bangladesh, India has picked a few players from the Duleep Trophy which was earlier mentioned as a mandate tournament to feature in for being brought into India’s team for the longest format.

They have included the services of players like KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant who will make their test return after a long wait. Also, the likes of Akash Deep and Dayal are brought in as Indian pacers.

Bangladesh on the other hand are a very confident side as they have recently had their win over Pakistan on their home soil, for the first-ever series sweep against the nation.

Let’s take a look at the Player battles from Bangladesh’s tour of India – First Test.

3. Rohit Sharma vs Mehidy Hasan Miraz

The Indian skipper has been their highest run-getter in WTC history and is the form of his life during the probable end phase of his career at 37.

He has been a terrific striker and often takes on the pacers with his aggressiveness and furious stance, however, Rohit though he is India’s current best aid against spin has often got out to the quirky wizards.

Miraz was the Most Valuable Player for Bangladesh as he turned the player of the series for his all-round performance with both bat and ball. Miraz took wickets whenever his skipper needed him to.

2. Yashasvi Jaiswal vs Hasan Mahmud

Another Indian opener in the list, Jaiswal is India’s current highest run-getter across formats in 2024. The 22-year-old batter is also known for his capability to give it back at the red-ball bowlers.

Hasan Mahmud has emerged as Bangladesh’s star with the new ball and in the absence of Shoriful he is also their best pacer in charge, as his five-fer changed the course of the game in the Pakistan second innings in the 2nd Rawalpindi test.

Mahmud would be the skipper, Shanto’s Talisman against the ace young batter.

1. Mushfiqur Rahim vs Ravi Ashwin

The two most experienced players from both the dugouts take on each other at Chennai. With this ground being Ashwin’s home ground he will be having the upper hand.

The way Rahim batted against Pakistan to score a stunning heroic 191 was what will boost his confidence. He is also one of the first players of spin, hence for these two, it will not only be a battle between two cricket legends but also a rare feat to two brilliant minds of the game.

ENG vs AUS: 3 Key Player battles to watch out for in the First T20I

0

ENG vs AUS: England will begin their summer in the shortest format of the game, as they take on Australia who are on their European tour, as they first played the 3-match T20I series against Scotland.

Though the first game seemed to be a mockery, the following games saw the hosts give tough competition. However, Inglis scored a T20I ton, Australia’s fastest of just 43 balls while Cam Green emerged as a top priority all rounder for the Men from the Kangaroo islands.

The first T20I marked the debut of several new players, yet let’s line at the 3 biggest Player battles from either sides:

Phil Salt vs Josh Hazelwood

Phil Salt
ENG vs AUS: Phil Salt (Source: Cricket365)

The English stand-in skipper has been their best batter for England and he is to emerge as the top batter in absence of their skipper Buttler. The opening batsman will play a very vital role in the powerplay, and to resist this brutal force of England batting they comprise experienced pacer Hazelwood.

Hazelwood’s acute line and length often makes him tough for a batter like Salt to show aggression on.

Travis Head vs Jofra Archer

Travis Head
Eng vs AUS: Travis Head (Source: The Indian Express)

Australia’s best T20I batter and the top ranked ICC T20I batter, Travis Head has produced many special innings. His exceptional batting against Scotland where he broke numerous records is what has sent a message to the English bowlers.

England ace pacer Jofra Archer will be the obvious quick who can help get rid of the aggressive batter. Archers seam position is what has been the weakest limb for Head.

Cameron Green vs Adil Rashid

Cameron Green
Eng vs Aus: Cameron Green (Source: TOI)

Green has emerged as Australia’s best all-rounder, and recently has announced his stunning form as well in the series against Scotland.

However, Green has often been troubled against spinners and Adil Rashid might hunt him down being one of England’s finest bowlers in the hut.
