World Cup 2023: ICC Men’s ODI World Cup 2023 is just around the corner. In less than 30 hours, the most anticipated ICC marquee event of the year awaits. Each team has had their warm-up matches successfully played but India got both of them washed out. Though India is all set to take and win fights. Here are the Five Key Indian players to watch out for in the ICC ODI World Cup 2023.
Jump to:
India recently won the Asia Cup 2023 humiliatingly defeating Sri Lanka by 10 wickets. India played 6 matches in that tournament and won 5 of them. KL Rahul made a stellar comeback with an astonishing century, Kohli showed his diligence and responsibility, and Shubman Gill ended the tournament as the highest run-getter.
On the bowling section, Jasprit Bumrah was on the money with his first ball after a long injury break, Mohammed Siraj was ruthless and Kuldeep was also at the top of his bowling.
The Australia tour of India worked as a perfect warm-up and gave good game time to all the players that management wanted to test. The injury of Axar Patel opened the doors for Ravi Ashwin in that series and now he is in the World Cup Squad.
Nevertheless, Indian batters and Indian bowlers are looking in great shape and strong mindset. Discussions regarding the key Indian players to keep an eye on in the competition are hot topics among cricket analysts and aficionados. Given the spin-friendly conditions in India, batsmen and spin bowlers are anticipated to be key players in the 2023 event.
Down below are the five key Indian players to watch out for in the ICC ODI World Cup 2023:
Five Key Indian Players to Watch Out in ICC ODI World Cup 2023
Virat Kohli
Modern Day Master, Run Machine Virat Kohli is the first name when you think of the key Indian Player in any cricket main event. Virat has built his image as the best savior of the team in the past decade. In ODIs, Virat has one of the best stats in the history of International cricket.
Virat has played a total of 281 ODI matches in which he has amassed 13,083 runs including 47 centuries. He is very close to breaching the highest ODI centuries record of Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar(49).
Rohit Sharma
Rohit Sharma, the Indian Skipper, has been in good form in the recent past and definitely will play a big role for the team if they win the CUP. In ODIs, Sharma has played in 251 matches and scored over 10,000 runs. He has scored double-hundred a total of 3 times along with his 30 centuries and 52 half-centuries.
KL Rahul
Rahul made a sounding comeback with a century in the recently held ACC Asia Cup 2023. While Rohit and Virat handle the top, a huge responsibility on Rahul is to maintain consistency and run rate in the middle overs and finish the game with momentum.
In his 61 ODIs, Rahul scored 2291 runs including six hundreds. His average is over 47 and that is too good to be a number 4 batter. He surely is the key Indian player in the upcoming main event.
Kuldeep Yadav
Kuldeep Yadav has been an immovable force in the middle overs in recent times. His accuracy and magical wrist are going to be vital if India seek to lift the title for 3rd time.
He has played 90 ODI matches for India where he picked up 152 wickets. His economy is just above 5 and his bowling average is 25. These are his career stats but he has come out as one of the most threatening spinners in the past year.
Jasprit Bumrah
Making a list of Key Indian players for any tournament and leaving Bumrah behind, not gonna happen! Bumrah has been the spearhead of the Indian Bowling attack for the past 5 to 6 years and he has been more impressive since his return from back injury.
In a total of 87 ODIs, he scalped 127 wickets averaging just below 25. He is a death-over bowler and still, he is economical, leaking just 4.6 runs per over.
ICC Men’s ODI Ranking Updated Ahead of ICC World Cup 2023 | India on TOP, Leaves behind Pakistan & Australia in Team Ranking: Just one night to go before we proceed with the ICC World Cup 2023 fixtures. England will take on New Zealand in the opening game of the event on October 5 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. But before that, let us have a glance at the ICC Men’s ODI Ranking.
Team India ensured that they remain unharmed atop the ICC Men’s ODI Ranking for teams ahead of the ICC World Cup 2023. The Men in Blue spearheaded by Rohit Sharma led India to a 2-1 ODI series win against Australia to topple the teams above it.
India’s top rank in the ICC Men’s ODI Ranking Points Table was a result of its second win against Australia in Indore. Rohit Sharma and his boys, owing to two consecutive wins, toppled Pakistan, which was heading the table until then.
After two successful victories against Australia, India suffered a defeat in the third game of the three-match ODI series between India and Australia. However, the defeat couldn’t disturb India’s position atop the points table.
Now as we head to the ICC World Cup 2023, Team India remains floated atop the ICC Men’s ODI Ranking for teams with a 116 rating and 5,085 points after playing out 44 ODI games. Pakistan slipped down to the second spot and currently has a 115 rating and 3,102 rating in 27 ODI appearances.
Pat Cummins-led Australia is comfortably sailing at third place with three rating points less than Pakistan after playing out 31 games in the season. The Proteas are placed just behind Australia with a difference of six rating points from Australia – 112 – in 24 ODI games.
The reigning champions, England are seated at the fifth spot, which ideally should be atop the points table. Jos Buttler and his men have amassed a 105 rating in 29 games.

PAK vs AUS: Pakistan and Australia faced each other in the 10th warm-up match of the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 where Australia thrashed Pakistan by 16 runs. A perfect practice game for both teams as they got eyes on their own weaknesses and strengths in subcontinental conditions. This post reads the scores of Pakistan Batters in The PAK vs AUS Warm-up Match of World Cup 2023.
Table of Contents
Australia won the toss and the obvious choice was to bat first. Australian batters thoroughly outplayed Pakistani bowlers in the first 23 overs. At first, Warner started the fireworks, scoring 48 off 33 including 4 fours, and 3 sixes. Mitch Marsh was playing out of his zone as he scored slow 31 runs off 48 balls.
Smith, Marsh, and Carey got off to a good start but couldn’t convert it into a big score. Good 77 runs off Glenn Maxwell’s bat must have boosted his and the team’s confidence in him. Knocking 50 and 48 by Green and Inglis led Australia to a big total of 351 in their 50 overs. Haris Rauf was the most expensive bowler from Pakistan eating up more than 10 runs per over in his 9 overs.
Pakistan started the chase with 7 runs per over but Pakistan’s top order didn’t add much. Fakhar, Imam, and Abdullah, all got good starts on a decent batting surface but were unable to utilize it. Australia were in the driving seat when Labuschagne took down Shadab. Pakistan were 83 for 4 down at that stage.
Iftikhar and Babar then combined together to build a 144-run stand for the fifth wicket. Iftikhar’s 83 off 85 and Babar Azam’s quick 90 off 59 handled the situation and headed their team to cement a win in a warm-up match. It all went in vain when the lower order failed completely except for Nawaz (50).
Marnus Labuschagne was exceptional with the ball in his hands as he took 3 scalps in the middle. Pakistan were bundled out at 337 runs; 14 runs off the target and lost the 2nd warm-up match.
