The England cricket team will be without their regular captain and dynamic opener, Jos Buttler, for the upcoming T20I series due to injury. Phil Salt has been named as the stand-in captain for the series. Additionally, England has included several uncapped players in the squad, which could present an advantage for Australia.

Meanwhile, Australia, fresh from a 3-0 series sweep against Scotland, will approach the England series with confidence. Their top order is in excellent form, the bowling unit is performing well, and every player is giving their full effort—an ideal scenario for Australia as they prepare for the English challenge ahead.

The highly awaited and exciting Australia’s tour of England, 2024 is all set to commence as the Mighty Aussies will be locking horns against Phil Salt’s England in the first T20I of the three-match 20-20 series at Rose Bowl Cricket Stadium of Southampton on 11th of September.

After securing an easy 3-0 series win over Scotland, the Aussies will now be playing against their Ashes-Rivals. Mitchell Marsh-led Australia have received a boost with the return of Matthew Short and Josh Hazlewood.

Seamer Nathan Ellis was unfortunately ruled out of the series due to a hamstring-injury, but his place in the team has been taken by Riley Meredith.

England on the other hand will be missing the services of their regular white-ball skipper, Jos Buttler, who has not fully recovered from his calf-injury. In the absence of Jos, hard hitting opener Phil Salt will be wearing the captain’s hat.

The squad of the 2022 T20 World Cup winning team consists of some new faces as 20-year-old Batting All-round Jacob Bethell has received his maiden England call-up after working relentlessly hard in Domestic Twenty-Twenty leagues.

Left-arm pacer Josh Hull has also been included in the squad for the T20I series against the Kangaroos and the duo of John Turner (right-arm seamer) and Dan Mousley (right-arm off break bowler) are a part of the squad as well.

As the two fierce rivals prepare to take on each other, the article below will be focussing on the weather-forecast of Southampton’s Rose Bowl Cricket Stadium.

The average temperature is anticipated to be around 14 degrees Celsius to 17 degrees Celsius with a wind speed of 15 km/h.

Therefore, fans of both the teams will get the opportunity to enjoy the entire match without any rain related interruptions between the two Ashes-Rivals

England vs Australia 1st T20i: Who will win the first match of the series?

0

Home Side England (ENG) are set to lock horns against Ashes-Rivals Australia in the first T20i of the three-match T20 International series at Southampton’s Rose Bowl Stadium on Wednesday, 11th of September.

The Aussies are entering the series on the back of a comfortable 3-0 series whitewash over Scotland while England on the other hand won the three-match test series against Sri Lanka by a margin of 2-1 but their defeat in the third test match has significantly shifted away the momentum.

Before the 2024 T20 World Cup, the Kangaroos had whitewashed New Zealand by a margin of 3-0 in the three-match T20 International series and they were expected to perform well in the T20 World Cup. However, they had a Forgettable T20 World Cup campaign as they got knocked out in the super eight stage after suffering a shocking defeat versus Afghanistan by 21 runs.

But things have improved since then and the 2021 T20 World Cup winners have returned to their winning groove.

England on the other hand have played many dull white-ball matches which have raised questions about their chances of winning the series against their rivals. The Three Lions played two T20 International series before the 2024 T20 World Cup and lost 3-1 versus the West Indies but they secured a 2-0 win against Pakistan

In the recently concluded T20 World Cup, things didn’t go according to plan for the Three Lions and they crashed out of the tournament after losing to India in the semi finals. England haven’t played a T20i match since then and they will be looking to get back to winning ways in the shortest format of the game by winning against their fierce rivals.

England vs Australia 1st T20 International: Pitch Report of Southampton’s Rose Bowl Stadium

The pitch of Southampton’s Rose Bowl Stadium is known to favour batters and the average first-inning score at this ground is 172 runs. This does not mean the chasing team will not have any kind of advantages.

The pitch offers the same amount of support to the chasing side as well as the  deck remains the same for the majority part of the match. The Aussies managed to score 248 runs at this very venue against England back in 2013 and that score still remains the highest one scored by any team at this ground.

In terms of bowling, the seamers will make the new ball talk with early-swing in the first six overs and as the game progresses, the spinners will have a big say as well. The weather is expected to be overcast with just a 13% chance of rain.

England vs Australia 1st T20i International: Head to Head records in T20I’s of both the teams

The two Ashes-Rivals have faced each other 24 times in the shortest format of the game and out of these 24 matches, the Aussies have reigned supreme on 11 occasions while England have won 11 times as well. Two encounters got washed-out due to constant rainfall.

England won: 11

Australia won: 11

Best players of the first T20 International between England and Australia (Predicted)

Best Batter (Predicted): Travis Head

Australia’s star batter Travis Head is in outstanding form and he was at his best in the first T20I versus Scotland as the southpaw scored 80 runs off just 25 deliveries and helped his side get over the line comfortably. His inning consisted of 12 fours and five sixes and he remained not-out with a strike-rate of 320 next to his name.

Thus, the Kangaroos will be hoping that the 30 year old continues to remain in good Nick with the bat and help them win against England in the first T20 International.

Best Bowler (Predicted): Sean Abbott

32 year old right-arm fast bowler Sean Abbott is regarded as one of the most underrated bowlers in the Australian setup. He’s the highest wicket taker in the history of the Big Bash with 165 scalps next to his name and he’s a really skillful bowler.

But, he’s very unlucky that the likes of Pat Cummins, Josh Hazelwood and Mitchell Starc are playing Cricket for the Aussies at the same-time as him or else he would have played many matches for his side.

Abbott was Australia’s joint-highest wicket taker against Scotland with six scalps and leg spinner Adam Zampa was the only bowler to bowl more overs in the three-match series than his 10 overs.

The conditions of Southampton’s Rose Bowl Stadium will suit Sean’s bowling and he will be the one to watch out for.

Today’s match prediction between England and Australia:

The team which elects to bat first will win the game.

Scenario number one

Australia win the toss and elect to bat first

Powerplay Score – 55 to 65 runs

First-Inning Score – 195 to 200 runs

Australia win the game

Scenario number two

England win the toss and elect to bat first

Powerplay Score – 60 to 70 runs

First Inning Score – 185 to 190 runs

England win the game

In what promises to be a really exciting series, Ashes-Rivals England and Australia are set to take on each other in a three-game T20 International series. It will be a home series for England and the first encounter will take place at the Utilita Bowl stadium of Southampton. The match will be played on the 11th of September and it will commence at 11:00 PM.

ENG vs AUS 1st T20i : Previews of both the teams

England

The 2022 T20 World Cup winners will be without the services of their regular skipper Jos Buttler, who got ruled out of the T20 International series due to suffering a calf-injury. In his place, Phil Salt will be seen handling the leadership duties.

Jamie Overton, the Surrey All-Rounder has received a call up for the T20 International series while wicket-keeper batsman Jordan Cox has been selected as the backup wicket-keeper.

The fast bowling all-round duo of San Curran and Jofra Archer will be the ones to watch our for, as both of them are looking in really good conditions fitness wise and they will be looking to help their side secure a victory over the Aussies.

The home side will be without the services of spin bowling All-Rounder Moeen Ali who announced his retirement from International-Cricket earlier this week.

Overall, the squad of the Three Lions looks really balanced and solid. The Australians will be looking to get better of their fierce rivals while England’s home conditions dominance remains unmatched.

Australia

The mighty Aussies will be playing under the leadership of Mitchell Marsh as their regular captain Pat Cummins has not yet recovered from an injury. David Warner has retired completely from International Cricket and his void will be felt significantly by the Australians.

Hard hitting opener Jake Fraser-Mcgurk is regarded as a highly rated youngster and while he wasn’t able to get going with the bat against Scotland, he is certainly anticipated to perform well as the second- opener alongside Travis Head against the Three Lions.

The premier fast bowler of the Kangaroos, Mitchell Starc has been rested, which will allow Sean Abbot and Josh Hazelwood to fill the left armer’s void. The duo of Spencer Johnson and Nathan Ellis have not been selected due to the respective injuries suffered by them

Regardless, the Mitch Marsh-led team have a really strong and experienced squad at their disposal, which paves the way for really exciting encounters between the two rivals.

ENG vs AUS 1st T20i: Utilita Bowl, Southampton Pitch-Report

The pitch at Southampton’s Utilita Bowl is known for being a batting-friendly one, especially in the initial phase of a game. The surface is known to be on the flatter side, with even-bounce which lets the batters play their strokes with ease.

But, the surface even offers help to the bowlers, especially the pacers, in the first six overs, due to the typical nature of England’s pitches.

IND vs BAN: With Sarfaraz set to feature for Duleep Trophy round 2, KL Rahul will lead India’s middle-order in the 1st Test

0

IND vs BAN: India will host Bangladesh for a 2-match Test series, with the first test to be played at Chepauk from the 19th of September. The two-match series will be the initiation of India’s hectic red-ball schedule, which will comprise the players competing in 10 test matches that conclude with the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

Several players, as per the ultimatum of the BCCI, have participated in the Duleep Trophy opening round, which earned a Test return for many players like KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant, who returned to the format after almost 21 months of absence due to an extended recovery from injury.

India selectors have included the likes of young batters like Sarfaraz Khan and Dhruv Jurel into the side as well, keeping in mind their contributions to India’s success in the last England series. As far as new names are concerned, Akash Deep, who is one year old, takes the place of the fourth pacer in the team, while Yash Dayal receives his maiden call to the Indian team.

India’s Squad for Bangladesh Tests: Rohit Sharma, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Sarfaraz Khan, KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant, Dhruv Jurel, Axar Patel, Ravindra Jadeja, Ravi Ashwin, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammad Siraj, Jasprit Bumrah, Akash Deep, and Yash Dayal.

India had announced a 16-member squad for the series, while now, as per reports, Sarfaraz Khan is all set to appear in the Duleep Trophy second round. Sarfaraz, who featured for India B in the first-round match, will resume action at the Duleep Trophy second round for the side.

Hence, KL Rahul, India’s long-served red-ball opener, will now be seen in the role of a middle-order batter, as he might come in at No. 5, his usual spot in the one-day side. Now with Sarfaraz gone, Rahul is sure to feature for India in the first test match.

India’s Best Possible Playing XI:

Openers: Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal

India can often rely on their opening pair of veteran skipper Rohit Sharma and young, talented Yashasvi Jaiswal, as they will be India’s fixed opening pair in the longer format until the WTC.

Middle-Order: Virat Kohli, Shubman Gill, KL Rahul, and Rishabh Pant

India’s three-format player and the newly appointed vice-captain of white-ball cricket, Shubman Gill, is set to play in the first test as their No. 3 batter. Though Gill’s form has been a concern in recent times.

Indian veteran since the Sri Lanka ODI’s will make his return to India on the 12th of this month to join the Indian side in their training session at Chepauk before the first test. Virat will also be on the quest to revive his form before India embarks on their remarkable journey to Australia for the BGT.

Both KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant are making a comeback into the Test side of the Indian team after they performed recently in the Duleep Trophy. Pant’s return has been long anticipated, and the day has finally come as he will feature as their wicketkeeper batter.

All-Rounders: Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel

Jadeja, the star Indian all-rounder ranked by the ICC as the No. 1 all-rounder in Tests, will once again feature for India, despite being withdrawn from the Duleep Trophy 2024 after being named in the squad initially.

Axar, who is now India’s frontline all-rounder, will be the second all-rounder if India does look to feature two all-rounders in the Test team.

Spinners: Ravi Ashwin

Ravichandran Ashwin has emerged as an all-rounder for India, as he has proved to be effective with the bat for India in the longest format of the game. Hence, alongside being India’s frontline spinner, he can often replace Axar Patel from the side.

Pace bowlers: Jasprit Bumrah, Yash Dayal, and Akash Deep

Siraj has not been the finest when it comes to red-ball cricket; hence, it will be a wise decision to have him dropped in order to make his place for Akash Deep, who seems to be in fine form and holds a similar accuracy of line and length as that of Mohammad Shami.

Jasprit Bumrah will make a return to the field after the T20 World Cup, and he will lead India’s pace attack. Also, left-hand pacer Yash Dayal, who received his maiden test call, might feature in the 11 immediately, as India for long has been in search of a left-arm pacer who can take the ball away from right-handers.

IND vs AUS: With Steven Smith all set to come at No. 4 and Head to Open, what changes can be predicted to be seen before the upcoming BGT for both teams?

IND vs AUS: India is about to begin their upcoming hectic test schedule with the first home test against Bangladesh. There has been much buzz around India’s next 10-match test schedule, which comprises a 2-match home Test series against Bangladesh and then followed by an immediate 3-match red ball series against New Zealand.

The most anticipated among them is the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, which is often one of the finest red ball tournaments played between the two modern-day greats of Test cricket. These two teams have emerged as the biggest rivals in test cricket, after England and Australia.

Also, the Border-Gavaskar Trophy has been a monopoly for both the Aussies and the Indians whenever they play on their own land, and now it has been won by the Indian side four times in a row, with all of them being played in India.

However, this time around players like Marnus Labuschagne have exclaimed that they might not have been able to win the series for long; however, they are a good team and will target their victory. While skipper Pat Cummins also exclaimed that this has been the only trophy they have not won in a long time, he has also lauded India’s greatness and strengths as a team.

After Aussie kingpin batter David Warner retired from Test matches, their master batter, Steven Smith, could be seen opening the innings alongside Usman Khawaja. However, Smith has not been relishing the role, as it often hampered his form until the 90+ score against the West Indies.

However, the Aussie management has now made an official announcement that Steven Smith will be back in his role as a no. 4 batter, while their star white-ball opener, Travis Head, who has been a part of the red-ball team for a long time now, will be promoted up the order as an opener.

Usman Khawaja and Travis Head will be their new opening pair from the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. While Labuschagne and Steven Smith will be the middle-order batters at no. 3 and no. 4. Now, as Head is promoted from no. 5 to the top, both all-rounders, Mitchell Marsh and Cameron Green, might be likely seen as batters at no. 6 and no. 5.

Alex Carey and the three pacers alongside Lyon might be seen among the tailenders. The Indian team is also looking to make subtle and realistic changes to their squad, which they identified from the Duleep Trophy.

ALSO READ: IPL 2025: 3 stars whom KKR might appoint as their mentors after Gambhir turned India head coach

With the likes of Rohit Sharma and young Yashasvi Jaiswal likely being the openers, Shubman Gill is doubtful at No. 3 since his form has been a major concern. Hence, India’s new head coach Gambhir might be trying out new batters at the position, while following veteran Kohli at second down, players like KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant, Dhruv Jurel, and Sarfaraz Khan have been suitable for the middle order.

India has the most suitable set of Test all-rounders, with Ravindra Jadeja and Ravi Ashwin being picked by the ICC as the top two in the men’s Test all-rounder rankings. While Axar Patel has also been important for the role, as his batting prowess down the order adds to his excellence.

Next, India’s pace attack might be spearheaded by Mohammad Shami after his return and the vice captain Jasprit Bumrah. They still remain in the hunt for their third pacer, as Akash Deep emerges as their ace option to be included in the role, while now, after his maiden call-up, even Dayal turns himself into a contender for the role.

Hence, before the BGT this year, the Indian team is likely to undergo many major changes, which might be among the middle-order batters as well as their pace bowling deck.

India is also in the quest to avenge their loss in the WTC final last time, as the defending champions might be the second team again to make it into the World Test Championship final alongside Team India for the third time, after their two initial losses.

IPL 2025: 3 stars whom KKR might appoint as their mentors after Gambhir turned India head coach

The defending champions KKR, have not had a dilemma over their players as much as they had over the appointment of a new mentor who would replace the likes of franchise veteran Gautam Gambhir.

Gambhir had already won two IPL trophies back in 2012 and 2014 as a player and captain of the side. Later he was appointed the mentor in the 2024 IPL, and the maestro was back with amazing results.

His seemingly unconventional antics surprised many as he picked Starc for a whopping INR 24.75 crore. However, the way Starc played in the playoff games seemed to be a likely decision made by the master strategist.

However, after India’s head coach Rahul Dravid stepped down from his role after the T20 World Cup success, Gambhir was appointed as the Indian team’s head coach, thus leaving a void in the KKR camp.

Gambhir’s exit also meant the exit of assistant coaches Ryan ten Doeschate and Abhishek Nayar, who Gambhir wanted as his deputies in the Indian team. Hence, KKR are now in the hunt for a head coach alongside Chandrakant Pandit before the IPL 2025 mega-auction.

Let’s take a look at the Top 3 stars whom KKR might appoint as their mentors:

Kumara Sangakara

The Royals’ head coach and their director of cricket for teams across all competitions, Kumara Sangakara, were seen in the RR camp from 2022 to 2024. After Rahul Dravid was announced to be the new head coach of the Rajasthan Royals, Sangakara was speculated to be appointed as the KKR mentor replacing Gambhir.

However, now the buzz has been that the Lankan legend will resume his role as the Royals Director of Cricket for the Royals teams across all global tournaments, which also includes the Barbados Royals and the Paarl Royals.

Jacques Kallis

Protea legend and former KKR boss was seen playing for KKR in their 2012 title triumph and was seen as both a player and coach in 2014 when the team won the title for the second time. Kallis, the veteran all-rounder, is considered the greatest of his kind the world has ever witnessed.

His employment as the mentor might strengthen their strategies in both the batting and bowling departments. He has had earlier experience in the role as he was appointed the mentor back in 2016.

ALSO READ: After Jamie Smith’s quickfire performance at no.7 in Tests, the young Englishman draws parallels with Aussie legend

Ricky Ponting

Ricky Ponting had stepped down from being the Delhi Capitals mentor after the 2024 IPL season. However, he has often shown interest in returning to the IPL as a coach or a mentor.

Ponting was earlier seen as the Mumbai Indians coach and then later in the Delhi hut as well. The 2-times World Cup-winning skipper for Australia is known to be one of the world’s finest cricket strategists.

Though nothing has been official, the Kolkata Knight Riders are looking to fancy their chances before the IPL 2025 auction, as he might seek a crucial place.
