BGT 2024-25: Aussie players have picked Shubman Gill and Jaiswal as the future of Indian cricket ft. Travis Head

0

BGT 2024-25: Australian legendary players like Steven Smith and Travis Head and others went on to pick India’s next future star among Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill.

India and Australia will take on each other in the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy, which will start at the end of November, as India travels to Australia for the 5-match long red ball series. The series has been anticipated for a long time now, and even the players from both sides have made bold claims regarding it.

Also, several legends, like Sunil Gavaskar and Ricky Ponting, have had their say on the upcoming tour. Ponting was the first to claim that the Aussies would seal the series with a 3-1 advantage over India.

To this claim, Gavaskar came back strongly, as he reminded them how India had won the last four Border-Gavaskar Trophies, of which the last two were on the Australian islands; hence, he mocked Ponting’s home advantage remark.

However, the likes of Sourav Ganguly, Matthew Hayden, and Adam Gilchrist said how thrilling this contest between the two giants of the game can be and how crucial it is from both teams’ points of view.

Now, in a recent interview, Travis Head went on to praise Indian superstar batter Shubman Gill on his dominance as a young batter and his immense impact on the game. For all, it is a known fact that Head is an Australian multi-format player who has resolved to find form across all formats.

“Shubman Gill is a superstar. He’s played some ridiculous innings; he’s got a great game against Spin. He’s a class batter.” Said Head to the Star Sports while complimenting the excellence of Gill.

In the same podcast interview with many players, many of the Australian greats went on to claim Jaiswal as India’s next-best superstar and the future of Indian cricket.

Players like Steven Smith, the veteran among Fab4, Josh Hazelwood, Nathan Lyon, Alex Carey, and Mitchell Starc went on to pick the 22-year-old explosive left-handed batter Yashasvi Jaiswal as India’s best future prospect, and it seems rightly so to the form he has been in.

Travis Head and Camron Green went on to claim Shubman Gill as their best-ever player who can be a great asset in the future. Marnus Labuschagne, on the other hand, has kept himself in a safe zone, as he picked either of these two players as the best who can contribute largely to Indian cricket’s future.

IND vs BAN: Indian Team updates for the Bangladesh T20I series: Shubman Gill to be rested

0

IND vs BAN: The Bangladesh tour of India has been long anticipated now, especially because it marks India’s initiation of their hectic yet exciting red ball campaign, which will include 10 test matches concluding with the Border-Gavaskar Trophy to be played from November to January.

However, other than the two-match red ball series, Bangladesh will also play a 3-match series in the shortest format of the game, as after the Kanpur test concludes on the 1st of October, the T20I series will begin on the 6th.

This will be the second T20I series against India since the appointment of Gautam Gambhir as the team India head coach. This will also be Suryakumar Yadav’s second international series since his appointment as the permanent skipper of the Indian T20 side.

As per reports, India’s newly appointed white-ball vice-captain across both formats, Shubman Gill, is likely to be rested for the T20Is. This is a probable move to give him some time off and reduce his workload before the vital New Zealand series and then his visit to the Australian islands for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

In case Shubman is rested, Abhishek Sharma, who still awaits a team India recall following his stunning hundred in the format against Zimbabwe, and also Ruturaj Gaikwad, who was considered ideal to replace the great Virat Kohli, might get their opportunities to return to the Men in Blue side.

India’s all-format wicketkeeper, Rishabh Pant, who was seen batting at No. 3, might also be rested since lots of red ball action is to follow for him; hence, Jharkhand batter, Ishan Kishan, might make a return to the Indian side. Kishan can also be seen in the opening role alongside the young Jaiswal.

Ishan Kishan was also seen scoring a hundred in his comeback match in the Duleep Trophy. The next two players who might be rested are India’s pace duo of Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammad Siraj. All these probabilities have risen due to the long red ball schedule ahead of the WTC.

These senior pacers might be replaced by the likes of young pacers like Yash Dayal or Harshit Rana, who might make their debut for the Indian team in white-ball cricket.

India’s probable squad for the Bangladesh T20I Series: Suryakumar Yadav [c], Hardik Pandya, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ishan Kishan, Riyan Parag, Shivam Dube, Rinku Singh, Abhishek Sharma, Axar Patel, Ravi Bishnoi, Tushar Deshpande, Harshit Rana, Avesh Khan, Arshdeep Singh, and Khaleel Ahmed.

Rumours over the Taliban could be banning cricket in Afghanistan

Afghanistan Cricket could face a major setback, as reports from various media handles have often speculated that the Taliban leader of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan might be considering putting a ban on the sport in the nation.

Afghanistan has been the most widespread team as per growth in international cricket. After their successful campaign at the Cricket World Cup in 2023, where they defeated the likes of great sides like England and also Pakistan and an inching victory against the Aussies, which was denied by Maxwell’s heroics.

Next was their stunning campaign in the T20 World Cup in the United States, where they emerged as semi-finalists for the first time in an ICC event. On the way, they defeated the likes of huge teams like Australia and New Zealand, which took them to the first-ever knockouts of a World Cup.

Cricket Afghanistan was immensely supported by their fans, who have seen them through all their highs and lows. However, for now, if reports are to be believed, then the leader of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, Hibatullah Akhundzada, is about to announce a gradual ban on cricket.

It is well known that since the Taliban took over Afghanistan, they have barred women from participating in any type of sport, and now men are about to face a similar situation. However, nothing has been officially confirmed over the speculation.

As per the speculation, the Taliban believe that the sport has harmful effects and is against the Sharia Law. However, some have confirmed that two different lobbies from Akhundzada and Sirajuddin Haqqani, the major investor in Afghan cricket, have different perspectives on the game’s existence.

Afghanistan Cricket has produced several world-class talents in Rashid Khan, Mohammad Nabi, Rahmanullah Gurbaz, and Naveen ul-Haq, as these players have emerged to be great talents for the nation but also for several global franchises.

Currently, the Afghanistan team is in India, as they were scheduled to play a one-off test against New Zealand at the Greater Noida newly built stadium. However, the team faced disappointment, as the first test match was called off without a ball being bowled for the first time in 26 years.

It was the Travis Head show in the first T20I where Australia defeated England by 28 runs. Australia would have wanted to repeat similar action in the second T20I but the home team was well prepared this time.

The ruthless hitting of Liam Livingstone and Jacob Bethall in the middle overs made the 190+ target look so small that England got one more over to spear. England would be pleased to see Liam Livingstone back in the form he is known for!

AFG vs NZ Test: Match Abandoned Without Toss! Was The Match Part WTC 2023-25? Check Out!

AFG vs NZ Test: The most awaited contest for Afghanistan, the one-off test against New Zealand for the first time in the history of Afghanistan Cricket has just fallen prey to the rain and poor drainage system of Greater Noida Sports Complex.

Afghanistan, a country that have hardly played 10 test matches in their history and none against the SENA countries. This was a great opportunity for them to face off against a strong New Zealand side but it all gone waste at the Greater Noida Sports Complex.

AFG vs NZ Test Abondoned

It was the first time in 91 years that a test match was called off without even a TOSS due to rain. The Afghanistan Cricket Board updated with the news and said, “It is still raining in Greater Noida and due to frequent rains, the 5th and final day of the Afghanistan vs New Zealand test has also been called off by the match officials.”

AFG vs NZ test

For New Zealand, this rain-affected Test would have been an ideal opportunity to gear up for their upcoming World Test Championship matches against Sri Lanka and India in the subcontinent. Playing in similar conditions could have helped them adjust to the challenges of spin, slower wickets, and the subtleties of playing in the heat and humidity. Losing that chance could mean they head into those crucial fixtures less prepared than they would have hoped.

On the other hand, Afghanistan had a rare opportunity to establish their presence in the Test arena. Being a newer team in the longest format, every match is vital for their growth and exposure. Going up against a strong side like New Zealand could have provided them with valuable experience and a chance to prove their abilities on a larger stage.

Unfortunately, the weather had other plans, and both sides are left feeling frustrated. The cancellation not only affected immediate preparations but also robbed Afghanistan of a significant chance to showcase their potential.

AFG vs NZ Test Impact on World Test Championship?

The lone test match of Afghanistan against New Zealand was not the part of the ICC WTC 2023-25 cycle. Among the 12 Test-playing nations, only nine are currently part of the ongoing World Test Championship (WTC) cycle, while Afghanistan, Ireland, and Zimbabwe remain excluded.

Afghanistan’s absence from the WTC is largely due to their relatively recent arrival in the Test cricket arena. Since gaining Test status in 2017, Afghanistan has participated in just nine Test matches across different venues, with the fixture against New Zealand marking their tenth.

Hence, there is no change in the ICC WTC Points table After the AFG vs NZ Test. Take a look at the WTC Points table:

Mitchell Marsh-led Australia will be taking on Phil Salt’s England in the second T20 International encounter of their ongoing three-game series at the Sophia Gardens Stadium of Cardiff on the 13th of September.

The Mighty Aussies secured a comfortable 28-run run in the first-match in Southampton. With the series now on the line for the hosts while the visitors will be looking to seal the series, the second T20I will be a really exciting one to watch.

In the first game, the Kangaroos managed to post a decent total of 179 runs on the board, thanks to a blistering fifty by Travis Head.

The Three Lions, who opted to field first, struggled to contain the run flow of the Aussie batting unit, with spin bowling all-rounder Liam Linvingstone, dismissing three batters.

However, the England batting unit weren’t able to cope up with the pressure created by the Australian’s and the Aussie bowling unit, under the leadership of Josh Hazelwood, did not allow the hosts to gain any kind of momentum and they ensured that the Three Lions didn’t get the opportunity of coming on the front foot.

Livingstone fought like a lone warrior and gave his absolute best in both the departments to help his side stay in the game but his lone efforts didn’t prove enough to help his team win the match.

The action of the two-fierce rivals will now shift to Cardiff, England will be looking to make a comeback and equalise the series while the Kangaroos, on the other hand, will be looking to carry forward their winning momentum and secure an early series win.
