ENG vs SL: Reports are awaited yet Mark Wood is set to miss the next test at Lord’s

0

ENG vs SL: The first test of Sri Lanka’s tour of England has been concluded with England winning it comfortably. The first test was played at Manchester, while the next is set to be played at Lord’s from the 29th of August.

Sri Lanka was pushed to bat first, and after some recent trouble with the batters, skipper Dhananjaya de Silva along with the debutant Rathanayake secured an innings for the Lankans with their 70’s. Next, the England innings went better as the middle order contributed largely to their innings, with Jamie Smith’s maiden hundred being the major reason for success.

In return, the Lankan innings were built upon experienced batters Mathews and Chandimal’s supportive innings, with Kamindu Mendis scoring his first ever Test hundred down the order, batting at no. 7. However, with the joint effort from Root, Brook, and Jamie, the Bazball secured the match.

Mark Wood raises concerns for Bazball management

Wood while bowling the 2nd ball of his 11th over faced sheer discomfort with his as he aborted his run-up. He left the field with Joe Root brought into the attack by Pope, as he struck in his second ball with the wicket of Milan Rathnayake after his debut inning heroics.

Wood didn’t take the field on the 4th day, as he left for a scan to determine the full extent of the damage, as the ECB are hopeful for just a strain and not more. Though it is likely that he will miss the 2nd test, he might be brought back for the test at The Oval on the 6th if his injury is not as serious.

However, England’s only reserved pacer, Olly Stone, might make a comeback to the English side for the second test, and even the likes of Sam Curran can be included as a replacement player if Wood is ruled out.

Curran was last seen for Surrey; if he makes a comeback to red-ball cricket, then he will be England’s all-rounder option as a possible replacement for injured skipper Ben Stokes.

IPL 2025: 3 Teams who can target Rohit Sharma as Captain in 2025

IPL 2025: Rohit Sharma is certainly one of the biggest names that India have produced in the game of cricket. And now he is only one of three Indian captains to win an ICC World Cup. Under Rohit, India lifted the T20 World Cup 2024 a few months back.

But as the IPL 2025 mega auction is coming up, it is a chance for some players to find a team for themselves. Rohit Sharma was replaced from the captaincy last season when Mumbai Indians traded in Hardik Pandya from Gujarat Titans.

Hence, there is speculation that Rohit might not stay with MI for the IPL 2025. That will leave a chance for the other franchises. Some reports also confirmed that there are a few franchises in talks with him. So, let’s talk about three IPL teams who can make Rohit captain in the IPL 2025.

IPL 2025: Three teams who can target Rohit Sharma as captain for 2025

3. Lucknow Super Giants

There are rumours circulating that KL Rahul is leaving Lucknow Super Giants and joining Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the IPL 2025. If it happens, LSG will look for a captain, and someone other than Rohit Sharma will be ideal for this post.

Rohit is one of the most successful IPL captains ever, with five IPL titles. He can be an ideal captain for the franchise. His experience as a captain can come in handy for the franchise as well.

2. Punjab Kings

IPL 2025: 3 Teams who can target Rohit Sharma as Captain in 2025
IPL 2025 Rohit Sharma

Shikhar Dhawan has retired, and Punjab Kings should look for someone who can do the job of captaincy well. PBKS has been the most underperforming team in the IPL. They have only made the playoffs twice in 17 seasons.

Hence, Rohit with such an experience is something that PBKS need if they want a good performance from their team. Rohit is equipped with such a skillset, which PBKS has been missing for such a long time.

1. Delhi Capitals

There have been some reports that Rohit has been in talks with Delhi Capitals for IPL 2025. The franchise might look to convince him, as they are also looking for their maiden IPL title.

On the other hand, if they release Rishabh Pant, DC will need a solid captaincy option, and then the former MI captain can come, which is an ideal option.

Rumours over KKR unofficially offering captaincy to Suryakumar Yadav for IPL 2025

0

Suryakumar Yadav has been the talk of the town since his lightning catch at the boundary that won India the T20 World Cup. Now he is being linked with former franchise KKR.

The batter, who has been India’s best-ranked batter in the format and also their third-highest run-getter in the shortest format of the game, has then been picked as the new Indian skipper after the retirement of legendary Rohit Sharma from the shortest format of the game.

Under the era of new Indian head coach Gambhir, Surya emerged as a winning skipper in his first major T20I series after being appointed India’s full-time T20I skipper. The Indians cleanly swept the hosts 3-0, and Surya made a startling contribution with the bowl as well as striking twice bowling the final over of the game.

With the IPL mega-auction nearing, all teams are looking at their probable choices for retention, and according to cricket enthusiasts, this has been in speculation that both Rohit Sharma and SKY are to part ways with former franchise Mumbai Indians.

According to Rohit Juglan, a sports journalist, the 360-degree batters’ former franchise and defending champion Kolkata Knight Riders have made an unofficial captaincy offer to the MI man.

With Hardik Pandya taking as the MI skipper, the recently appointed India captain would look to move to a franchise with a probable captaincy option, and hence KKR can be one.

Shreyas Iyer to be traded for SKY

However, he also revealed that KKR trading their last season’s IPL trophy-winning skipper Shreyas Iyer to be traded to the Mumbai Indians in order to acquire the services of Indian Mr. 360.

However, parting ways with their best batter is not a very simple decision for MI; hence, nothing can be said about the credibility of the news.

Even this can also be one of Juglan’s speculative analyses, as he said that LSG and DC are awaiting 50 crores for acquiring Rohit Sharma if he is released from his previous franchise.

PAK vs BAN: Mushfiqur Rahim breaks multiple records with his 191-run marathon innings in 1st Test in Rawalpindi

0

PAK vs BAN: Mushfiqur Rahim has registered his name in the record books as the ongoing Test between Pakistan and Bangladesh at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium has turned out to be a run-fest for the batters. It is one of the flattest pitches in Pakistan.

As a result, the batters from both sides have made the most of this opportunity. Batting first, Pakistan declared at 448/6 with a century each from Mohammad Rizwan (171*) and Saud Shakeel (141). Bangladesh also did well, and Mushfiqur Rahim has bagged a big score.

The veteran wicket-keeper batter registered his 11th test hundred. He was looking good to score his fourth Test double century, but he was unlucky and missed a well-deserved Test double hundred by just nine runs. Rahim scored 191 runs off 341 balls, with 22 fours and one six.

Mushfiqur Rahim, who came out to bat at No. 5, went on to add a record 196-run stand for the seventh wicket with Mehidy Hasan Miraz. Bot batters toiled with the Pakistani bowlers and didn’t give them an inch. It is now Bangladesh’s highest seventh-wicket stand in Test cricket.

It is also the highest seventh-wicket stand against Pakistan in Tests. Adding to that, with his 191-run knock in the ongoing PAK vs BAN test, Mushfiqur scored his 11th Test ton and went past Tamim Iqbal’s tally (10). Rahim has now the second-most Test ton for Bangladesh.

With this, Rahim’s 191 is now the 6th highest individual score in a test, and it is the highest score by a Bangladeshi batter on Pakistan’s soil. Mushfiqur Rahim also became the oldest Bangladeshi batter (37 years and 104 days) to score a Test century.

He also became only the second Bangladeshi batter to complete 15000 runs in international cricket. Rahim has now scored 15159 runs and is only behind Tamim Iqbal (15249) for most runs for Bangladesh in international cricket.

The century in the ongoing PAK vs BAN first test is the fifth overseas ton for Rahim, and he has now scored most overseas centuries for Bangladesh. The visitors have taken the lead by more than 100 runs, but it looks like this game is heading towards a draw.

ENG vs SL: Jamie Smith’s maiden century receives appreciation while English bowlers upset Sri Lanka early

ENG vs SL: England are currently hosting Sri Lanka for a 2-match test series, the first one being played at the Old Trafford, Manchester. The match started on the 21st of August with Sri Lanka looking to bat on the track.

The English bowlers caused early trouble for the Lankan batters as they struck very early with 3 wickets, and even Mathews and Chandimal fell early. Now, the skipper took over the role with Sri Lanka’s no.9 debutant Milan Rathnayake. They both landed decent 74 and 72, which took Sri Lanka to a 236-run total in their first inning.

The England innings started at the end of Day 1, as Ben Duckett took strike with new opener Dan Lawrence, who replaced the injured Zak Crawley. The new English skipper, Ollie Pope, came in at No. 3 and went early.

However, it was their highly anticipated player Joe Root who added stability to the innings before Harry Brook and wicketkeeper batsman Jamie Smith took England to an impressive total.

Jamie Smith took over injured skipper Ben Stokes, batting position at No. 6, and he kept his nerve to deliver a stunning inning. In between the two, the partnership was broken by a jaffa of a delivery from Prabhat Jayasuiriya, one that took a sharp turn before taking the top of the off-stump.

The next one to fall was Chris Woakes with another similar delivery that spun unconventionally. Jamie Smith remained firm till the end of Day 2, as he took England to 259/6 and he himself stood on 72*.

Alongside Gus Atkinson, he came into bat on the 3rd day and kept his composure to score his maiden international test century. The player already has 10 First-Class centuries and the highest individual score of 234 in his county career.

Now aged 24 years and 40 days, Jamie is the youngest English wicketkeeper batsman to have scored a century in red-ball cricket. At the time of writing, Sri Lanka in their second innings is 107/4, with Angelo Mathews their best batter standing alone on 48*, with even the skipper back in the pavilion this time.

The team is still behind by 15 runs at tea break, and if Chandimal, who is retired and hurt, makes a comeback onto the field, Sri Lanka might pose a decent total.

PAK vs BAN Day 3 Highlights; Pakistan Edge Ahead, Keeping Bangladesh At The Bay

PAK vs BAN Day 3: Pakistan are slightly ahead in the game after Stumps are called but Litton Das shifted the momentum towards Bangladesh as well in the last half-an-hour. Here we are with the PAK vs BAN DAY 3 highlights and Match summary.

What a day of cricket in Rawalpindi! A perfect test match day where bowlers were challenging right from the first ball and the batter had equally blunt responses.

Pakistan were way ahead when the day started and with a couple of early wickets, they were in a better position. The partnerships in the second session and the aggressive batting in the final session of the day opened up the match for Bangladesh.

The match is now hanging in balance but still Pakistan have a slight edge over Bangladesh as they have got five wickets and Bangladesh are still 132 runs behind Pakistan. Let’s take a look at the PAK vs BAN Day 3 Highlights and scorecard:

PAK vs BAN Day 3 Highlights

Zakir Hasan and Shadman Islam faced the challenge of surviving an hour of play yesterday, and the Bangladesh openers managed to do so without losing their wickets. They safely navigated 12 overs on the previous day and started the morning with a similarly cautious approach.

However, their resilience was short-lived as Naseem Shah made a significant breakthrough in just the fifth over of the morning session.

Skipper Shanto soon followed, finding his way back to the pavilion, leaving Bangladesh at 53 for 2. Opener Shadman Islam and Mominul Haque then built a solid partnership, adding 94 runs to the total. However, Khurram Shahzad struck again, claiming his second wicket by dismissing Mominul Haque(50).

Wicketkeeper-batter Mushfiqur Rahim held his ground at one end, but Shadman Islam lost his concentration and was bowled out by Muhammad Ali. Veteran all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan was unable to contribute significantly, as Saim Ayub dismissed him early.

Musfiqur Rahim also struck a half-century and below are the scores at the stumps of PAK vs BAN DAY 3.
