PAK vs BAN Day 3: Pakistan are slightly ahead in the game after Stumps are called but Litton Das shifted the momentum towards Bangladesh as well in the last half-an-hour. Here we are with the PAK vs BAN DAY 3 highlights and Match summary.

What a day of cricket in Rawalpindi! A perfect test match day where bowlers were challenging right from the first ball and the batter had equally blunt responses.

Pakistan were way ahead when the day started and with a couple of early wickets, they were in a better position. The partnerships in the second session and the aggressive batting in the final session of the day opened up the match for Bangladesh.

The match is now hanging in balance but still Pakistan have a slight edge over Bangladesh as they have got five wickets and Bangladesh are still 132 runs behind Pakistan. Let’s take a look at the PAK vs BAN Day 3 Highlights and scorecard:

PAK vs BAN Day 3 Highlights

Zakir Hasan and Shadman Islam faced the challenge of surviving an hour of play yesterday, and the Bangladesh openers managed to do so without losing their wickets. They safely navigated 12 overs on the previous day and started the morning with a similarly cautious approach.

However, their resilience was short-lived as Naseem Shah made a significant breakthrough in just the fifth over of the morning session.

Skipper Shanto soon followed, finding his way back to the pavilion, leaving Bangladesh at 53 for 2. Opener Shadman Islam and Mominul Haque then built a solid partnership, adding 94 runs to the total. However, Khurram Shahzad struck again, claiming his second wicket by dismissing Mominul Haque(50).

Wicketkeeper-batter Mushfiqur Rahim held his ground at one end, but Shadman Islam lost his concentration and was bowled out by Muhammad Ali. Veteran all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan was unable to contribute significantly, as Saim Ayub dismissed him early.

ENG vs SL: Jamie Smith and Ollie Pope put England on top in a rain-affected day 2

Wicketkeeper Batsman Jamie Smith continued to have an impressive start to his Test career as he pushed Ollie Pope-led England into a first-inning lead of 23 runs against Sri Lanka in the first test match of the three-match series by playing an impressive unbeaten inning of 72 runs as the Three Lions put up a score of 259-6 on the board before the proceedings of the second day ended earlier than expected due to constant rainfall interruptions at Old Trafford.

Replying to the 236 runs score put up on the board by the Sri Lankans, the duo of Harry Brook (56 runs) and Joe Root (42 runs) steadied things for the hosts in the middle of constant rain interruptions which eventually washed out the entire morning session of day 2.

But the rain showers had some other plans as they made players walk off the field and the umpires took the harsh decision of calling play off with more than an hour of play still left after the tea break.

24-year-old Smith, playing in just his fourth test match after getting included in the squad for this summer’s matches, played brilliant knocks of 95 runs and 70 runs during the 3-0 series sweep over West Indies last month and now he brought up his third fifty in the ongoing first test against Sri Lanka.

His knock of 72 runs consisted of one six and five fours and he continues to remain unbeaten at the crease alongside Gus Atkinson (4*runs).

The visitors are still in the match though and after struggling at 6-3 in the initial phase of their inning, they managed to post a decent total of 236 runs on the scoreboard. The Sri Lankans fought back in a really good way with the ball as fast bowler Asitha Fernando was the pick of the Sri Lankan bowlers with figures of 3-68 next to his name.

‘Australian Public Loves Pant’; Hayden Praises 2020-21 BGT Hero

The Indian Cricket Team is set to tour Australia after a two-year hiatus for the historic Border-Gavaskar Trophy in December. Discussions about the tour are already a hot topic among cricket enthusiasts, including former Australian cricketer Matthew Hayden, who has been reminiscing about moments from India’s previous tour of Australia.

The BCCI and Cricket Australia have announced the schedule for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, which will feature a five-match Test series, an increase from the previous four-match format.

Before heading to Australia, India will host Bangladesh and New Zealand, but the focus remains firmly on the Australian tour. The high standards set by the Indian team during their last tour of Australia have left a lasting impression.

As the defending champions of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, India is set to compete in what is arguably the most anticipated international bilateral series of the calendar year: the Australia vs. India Test series.

The 2018-19 Border-Gavaskar Trophy, hosted by Australia, saw India secure a historic 2-1 series victory. Just two years later, India repeated their success with another 2-1 win in Australia, despite fielding an inexperienced side. Now, India is on the cusp of achieving a hat-trick of away Border-Gavaskar Trophy series wins.

The 2020-21 series holds a special place for Indian cricket fans, particularly due to the dramatic victory at the Gabba, Australia’s fortress. Rishabh Pant’s aggressive batting was pivotal, especially in the final Test, where he scored an unbeaten 89 to lead India to a memorable triumph.

Former Australian batter Matthew Hayden expressed his interest in seeing how Pant performs in the upcoming series and how India’s batters, in general, will approach the formidable Australian bowling attack.

In the CEAT Cricket Awards, Hayden said, “Guys like Rishabh Pant have got a muscle memory and the thirst for victory. He was such a key player last time he played there and the Australian public loved him as well, because of the nature of the way he played his game.”

He also praised Rishabh’s innovation and aggressive approach. He added, “It was exciting. It was innovative. It was just fresh and good. Then you have got your old stewards, like Virat Kohli, (he) will want to make an impression again. From a batting point of view, I’m excited to see how India have that strategy to take on the Australian conditions.”

The 2018/19 series marked a historic first, as Australia lost a Test series at home to an Asian side for the first time. This series occurred shortly after the infamous 2018 ball-tampering scandal, which ruled out key players Steve Smith and David Warner from participating.

In the 2020/21 series, the situation was reversed in terms of team personnel. Despite Australia fielding a full-strength squad throughout, they lost the series again. India, meanwhile, faced significant setbacks, especially after a crushing defeat in the first Test where they were bowled out for just 36 runs in their second innings and lost by 10 wickets.

PAK vs BAN: Pakistan declare at 448-6 as Bangladeshi batters start on a cautious note: Shan Masood led Pakistan declared their innings at the score of 448-6 on the second day of the first test match against Bangladesh which is taking place at Rawalpindi’s Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on Thursday.

The hosts kicked off the proceedings of day two with a score of 158-4, with vice-captain Saud Shakeel (57 runs) and Mohammad Rizwan (24 runs) at the crease. The two batters dominated the Bangladeshi bowling unit and continued their outstanding form, scoring hundreds.

Rizwan and Shakeel brought up their third century in the longest format of the game and stitched a partnership of 240 runs for the fifth wicket.

Shakeel played a really good knock of 141 runs in 261 balls but he got dismissed off the bowling of Mehidy Hasan Miraz.

Bangladeshi bowlers breathed a sigh of relief after dismissing the Pakistani captain however much to their dismay, Rizwan continued to dominate the bowlers and went on to play an unbeaten knock of 171 runs in 239 balls. This also turned out to be the first 150+ of the 32-year-old’s career. Meanwhile, Shaheen Shah Afridi also managed to chip in with a decent inning of 29 runs in 24 deliveries.

Bangladeshi opening batters Zakir Hasan and Shadman Islam started their team’s first inning on a cautious note following the declaration executed by the Shan Masood-led team on 448-6.

The visiting team scored 27 runs without the loss of a wicket at stumps on the second day as the Pakistani seamers bowled 12 overs. Bangladesh trail by 421 runs after the end of day 2.

Earlier on the first day of the test match, after being asked to bat first by Najmul Hossain Shanto, the hosts struggled a lot against the pace bowling unit of the visitors as the trio of Abdulla Shafique (2 runs), skipper Shan Masood (6 runs) and Babar Azam (0 runs) were sent back to the pavilion inside the first 10 overs of the Pakistani inning.

After losing three important players, the home side executed a comeback as the duo of Saud Shakeel and Saim Ayub got involved in a crucial partnership of 98 runs which bailed the Shaheens out of trouble.

Opener Saim Ayub brought up his first fifty of his test career as he played a good inning of 56 runs in 98 balls which consisted of a six and four fours. The youngster eventually got dismissed by Hasan Mahmud but Shakeel and Rizwan steadied the sinking ship of the Green Shirts and took their side to a respectable total of 448 runs.

For Bangladesh, left-arm seamer Shoriful Islam and right-arm fast bowler Hasan Mahmud took two wickets each.

Brian Lara Stadium is generally pretty good for the bowlers. The outfield here is slow, and there is an uneven bounce, which makes it hard for the batters. Slow bowlers will have more effect at this venue. The first-inning average score here is 128. A total of 12 T20Is have been played at this venue, and 8 of them have been won by the chasing team. As a result, we might see the team that wins the toss will be bowling first.

A Highlight of This Year’s Men’s CEAT Awards: Kohli, Rohit, and many India players receive tokens of appreciation

0

Team India has given all their effort in the last year of cricketing action, as they have held on to the best rankings ever. The CEAT Awards gives players the appreciation they deserve for their contributions. With the Aussies exceeding them in tests, they hold the No. 1 ranking in the ODI and T20I formats under the reign of skipper Rohit.

In the valiant efforts of the team, Rohit Sharma and co. led India to their first World Cup final for the first time since 2011. The World Cup returned to the home country, and India proceeded to the finals after two semi-final exits in 2015 and 2019.

Though India could not lift their third World Cup and first under skipper Sharma, they did keep up their morale and determination high enough to lead them into the finals of the T20 World Cup, which was held months later in the United States. Many players played an immense role and contributed to their famous victory and unbeaten record in the World Cup until the final loss and the T20 World Cup title triumph.

Let’s take a look at the Indian players who were awarded at the CEAT Awards:

Virat Kohli was named the ODI Cricketer of the Year.

Legendary Indian cricketer Virat Kohli, known as the best of the generation, is often considered the greatest in white-ball cricket. Kohli during the World Cup in 2023, scored 700+ runs and set several records.

Kohli has the most runs in a single edition of the World Cup in the history of the game. Virat Kohli, the home World Cup in 2023, went on to score a stunning 765 runs for the Indian team in 11 matches, going past Sachin Tendulkar’s 20-year-long record since the 2002 World Cup, where India too faced a crushing defeat at the hands of the Aussies in the finals.

Virat is now also the second-highest run-getter in the history of the World Cup, going past Ricky Ponting (1743) with 52 more runs. Kohli has scored 1795 runs in the format, and to go past Sachin Tendulkar (2278) the modern maestro would need to feature in the next World Cup and score as many as 484 runs to set the record in his own name.

Shreyas Iyer won the Star Sports T20 Leadership Award.

Iyer won the T20 Leadership Award for leading two IPL franchises into the finals, first by any player, a feat not achieved by the greats MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma. It was under Shreyas’ captaincy that the Delhi Capitals went to the finals back in 2020, and for the second time, he led the Kolkata Knight Riders to a trolling win in the IPL 2024.

Mohammad Shami was chosen as the Best ODI Bowler of the Year.

Veteran Indian white ball pacer Mohammad Shami, who has closed in on 200 ODI wickets, has not played since the last World Cup due to his extended tenure of injury.

The fine pacer bowled efficiently in the last World Cup as he picked a record 24 wickets in just 7 appearances, only behind the likes of Mitchell Starc (27) and Glenn McGrath (26). Shami is also India’s highest World Cup wicket-taker, as he has 55 wickets in 18 World Cup matches, with which he is placed fifth in the list of highest wicket takers.

Yashasvi Jaiswal won the Best Test batter of the year.

Jaiswal, India’s young sensation who has stunned all with his performance in the longest format of the game, won the Best Test batter award. This would surely boost his confidence for the upcoming year of cricket action that awaits him with the home series against Bangladesh and New Zealand and then later in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

Ravi Ashwin won the Best Test batter in the year

Ravichandran Ashwin has been coined as India’s best batter in the longest format of the game, as he is India’s highest wicket taker now in the format going past the greats Kapil Dev and Harbhajan Singh.

Rohit Sharma won the Men’s International Cricketer of the Year Award.

Rohit Sharma has been India’s best batter across all formats. Despite being aged 37 and nearing his retirement, Sharma is yet India’s top-ranked batter across all formats. Sharma has been the most enthusiastic hitter of the ball, as he has bundled on many runs in the World Cup and the T20 World Cup, and he has also emerged as India’s highest run-getter in the WTC.

An international cricketer award likely suits his high standards.

Rahul Dravid awarded with the Lifetime Achievement Award

India veteran player Rahul Dravid has made an immense contribution to the team’s success in his playing career. Considered one of the greatest of the game across both the Test and ODI formats, Dravid’s only disappointment lay in his empty trophy cabinet despite a celebrated career.

However, the veteran returned as India’s coach and has set a chain of Trophies first winning the U-19 World Cup with the young boys and then leading the big boys to a WTC final, an ODI World Cup final and the T20 World Cup which they finally won in Dravid’s reign thus ending his trophy drought.
