The Bangladesh Tour of Pakistan 2024 features a two-match Test series, with both fixtures scheduled at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium in northern Pakistan. The series kicked off yesterday, with Shan Masood’s Pakistan and Najmul Hossain Shanto’s Bangladesh facing each other, both fielding full-strength squads.

It was raining early in the morning at Rawalpindi. The outfield was wet at the scheduled time to start the match so the match officials delayed the toss. The coin was flipped at 2:00 PM and Shanto made the right call.

Pakistan were invited to bat first, and Bangladesh made an early impact. Hasan Mahmud struck first, dismissing Abdullah Shafique with just 3 runs on the board. Shortly after, Shoriful Islam removed Shan Masood with a controversial caught-behind decision.

Shoriful Islam continued his impressive spell by dismissing Babar Azam for a duck in his next over, leaving Pakistan reeling at 16 for 3. However, Saud Shakeel and Saim Ayub built a resilient partnership, steering Pakistan towards a recovery.

Saud Shakeel and Saim Ayub added 98 runs together before Ayub, having reached 56 individually, lost his focus and gave away his wicket just after the drinks break. Mohammad Rizwan then joined Shakeel, and the pair ensured there was no further damage during the extended half-hour of play.

At stumps, Pakistan had posted 158 runs for the loss of four wickets. However, with some green tinges still visible on the surface, batting on Day 2 could present significant challenges. Now, let’s take a look at the PAK vs BAN Day 2 Rawalpindi Weather Forecast, Rain Prediction, and Pitch Report:

Rawalpindi Weather Report on 22 AUG (weather.com)

The weather in Rawalpindi today is ideal for cricket. The groundsmen have had ample time to prepare the outfield, ensuring smooth play throughout the day. According to Weather.com, Rawalpindi will experience a sunny and humid day on August 22.

There is virtually no chance of rain today, allowing uninterrupted play on Day 2 of the PAK vs BAN first Test. A gentle breeze, with speeds around 13 KMPH, will blow towards the southwest.

PAK vs BAN Day 2 Rawalpindi Pitch Report

The pitch in Rawalpindi has a slight green tint, suggesting there will be swing on offer. Yesterday, the bowlers extracted ample movement from the surface, and a similar challenge is expected this morning. Pakistan’s batters will likely face some tough questions from the Bangladeshi bowlers early on.

However, the pitch tends to flatten out with careful play during the first hour, providing opportunities for a more stable innings. Pakistan will undoubtedly have a strategy in place to build a prolonged innings today.

Adam Gilchrist makes bold prediction for Border-Gavaskar 2024-25; picks Australia to beat India at home

Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25: India and Australia are at the top of the World Test Championship at the moment. These two are looking very good to play a second consecutive final against each other next year in England. However, the upcoming five-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy will solve many questions.

India and Australia will lock horns against each other in a five-match series which will be played in Australia between November 22 and January 7. These five tests will be important for both sides, as the winner will likely confirm a place in the WTC final.

India have won the last two Border-Gavaskar series in Australia, and they will look to make it three in a row. Meanwhile, Australia have not won the BGT title in the last ten years, so they also have a lot to prove.

Adam Gilchrist Backs Australia to win the upcoming Border Gavaskar Trophy 2024 25
Adam Gilchrist makes bold prediction for Border-Gavaskar 2024-25; picks Australia to beat India at home 6

The last time Australia won the Border-Gavaskar Trophy was in 2014-15 at home. Since then, India have beaten them in four series. Overall, these two teams have played 16 BGT series where India have won 10, Australia have won 5, while one series ended in a draw.

Former Australian wicket-keeper Adam Gilchrist also feels that the coming series will be very tough and it is not easy to predict the winner. However, he reckons that Australia need to win the series to carry on their home dominance because they have failed to do it in the last two home series against India.

Gilchrist said in an interview with TOI, “It is going to be another tough series for both teams. Onus is on Australia to prove they are the dominant force at home. Naturally, I am going to say Australia; I hope they get there. But it is too close to call. It will be a close tussle.”

In 2018-19, India won the Border-Gavaskar series in Australia under Virat Kohli, while in 2020-21, Ajinkya Rahane led India to win. That’s why Pat Cummins and his men are desperate to win the BGT title. A number of Australian players have spoken about the importance of the series win against India.

Meanwhile, former Australian captain Ricky Ponting also predicted Australia would win the coming series against India. He made the bold statement and predicted a 3-1 series win for the hosts. Only time will tell the result of the series, but fans are waiting to see these two strong teams collide in the toughest format in the game.

Jay Shah to replace Greg Barclay as the New ICC Chairman – Reports

Jay Shah, the BCCI secretary, is all set to take the top spot in the International Cricket Council (ICC). As per the latest development, the current ICC chairman, Greg Barclay, has cleared that he is likely to step down from the role.

That’s what has made the Shah’s a premier candidate for this post. Notably, Jay Shah is also the president of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), and some reports confirm that there might not be another candidate against him for the role of ICC chairman.

Barclay was appointed as the ICC chairman in November 2020 and is not willing to continue the role for the third consecutive duration. On Tuesday, he informed the board members through a virtual video call.

In an interview with The Age, an ICC spokesperson said, “ICC chair Greg Barclay confirmed to the board that he will not stand for a third term and will step down from the post when his current tenure finishes at the end of November. Barclay was appointed as the independent ICC chair in November 2020, before being re-elected in 2022.”

He also confirmed that all the current directors are required to give nominations by the deadline, which ends on August 27, 2024. If there will be two or more applicants, then there will be an election. However, it doesn’t look like there won’t be any other candidate against Jay Shah.

The new chairman will take over the responsibility on December 1, 2024. Notably, some reports confirm that Jay Shah has the backing of Australia and England, which makes his case even stronger. The BCCI secretary will be the youngest ICC chairman, who will become at the age of 35.

The new term for the ICC chairman will be for three years. As per the ICC rule, a candidate needs nine out of 16 votes to become the ICC Chairman, and Jay Shah is one of the most influential figures in the world of cricket. If it happens, he will become the fifth Indian to lead the ICC.

ICC Women’s T20 World Cup: The rumors have come true and the hard-earned hosting rights of ICC Women’s T20 World 2024 have been a missed opportunity for Bangladesh now as the International Cricket Board have announced a new host for ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024.

The ICC have recently updated that the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024, set to be played in October, have been moved out of Bangladesh. The ongoing political crises in Bangladesh could be the main reason for the steps taken by the ICC.

Amid the outrage and instability of the crowd due to political reasons, the security and well-being of the players would never be assured and hence, ICC have decided to move the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 to the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

In the recent past, UAE has been one of the most significant countries in hosting cricket for the ICC. The country has hosted the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 and many other qualifier tournaments in the past couple of years.

ICC Announcement of Shifting the Host of Women’s T20 World Cup 2024

Announcing the big update, ICC Chief Executive Geoff Allardice said in a statement: “It is a shame not to be hosting the Women’s T20 World Cup in Bangladesh as we know the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) would have staged a memorable event.”

Now, while making this announcement, he also ensured the hosting right of Bangladesh for the Women’s tournament. He said “I would like to thank the team at the BCB for exploring all avenues to try and enable the event to be hosted in Bangladesh, but travel advisories from the governments of a number of the participating teams meant that wasn’t feasible. However, they will retain hosting rights. We look forward to taking an ICC global event to Bangladesh in the near future.”

“I’d also like to thank the Emirates Cricket Board for stepping in to host on behalf of the BCB and Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe for their generous offers of support, and we look forward to seeing ICC global events in both of those countries in 2026,” he added.

So, the big news from the ICC is that Bangladesh will not host the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 and ICC have decided UAE to host the T20 World Cup 2024.
