All three games of the series will be played at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy Stadium of Tarouba, Trinidad and Tobago. All the games will start at 12:30 am IST.

In the recently concluded two-match test series, the Proteas reigned supreme as the won clinched the series by securing a win in the second test match and the Windies would be looking to avenge their test series defeat by whitewashing the visitors in the upcoming T20 International series.

The Windies have looked in a really good nick in the shortest format of the game having won four of their last five T20 International bilateral-series. However, the Rovman Powell-led team suffered a painful defeat in the recently concluded T20 World Cup 2024 as they lost a thrilling super over super eight match against South Africa and got eliminated.

South Africa on the other hand was on a winning streak in the 2024 T20 World Cup but in the final against India, they too suffered a heartbreaking defeat which ended their hopes of lifting their first-ever ICC Trophy.

This series kicks off the 2026 T20 World Cup preparations for both the teams and it promises to be a really exciting one as well.

WI vs SA: Head to Head records between both the teams in T20 Internationals

The Proteas and the Windies have played a total of T20 International matches against each other and out of these 23 encounters, the South Africans have finished out on top on 12 occasions while West Indies have managed to win 11 games.

Mohammed Shami to play Border-Gavaskar series? Jay Shah gives major update on Shami’s Availability

Mohammed Shami is one of India’s premier pacers across formats. His role with Jasprit Bumrah is very vital in the Tests and ODIs. However, the pacer has been out of action for almost a year now.

He played his last international game when India faced Australia in the final of the 2023 ODI World Cup in November 2023 at Narendra Modi Stadium. But since then, the veteran pacer has been out of the action.

He underwent surgery in February 2024 and is completing his rehab programmes at the NCA in Bengaluru. Shami has started bowling at the nets, but there is no official statement on his return to the Indian team.

Jay Shah confirms Mohammed Shami’s return in the upcoming five-match Test series against Australia

Mohammed Shami

Ahead of India’s Sri Lanka tour, chief selector Ajit Agarkar said that they were working closely with Shami and he might return for India’s upcoming home Test series against Bangladesh, which starts on September 19. However, Mohammed Shami said in a launch event in Kolkata that he is not sure about his return.

However, Jay Shah, the BCCI secretary, has not shared a major update on Shami’s return. In an interaction on The Times of India, Shah said, “Mohammad Shami is expected to be fit. Your question about Shami is right… he will be there because he is experienced, and we need him in Australia.”

India are currently at the top of the ongoing World Test Championship 2023-25 table, and they are on way to play the third successive WTC final. But the upcoming Test series against Australia will be very important, as those five games can change the scenario of the WTC table.

India have won the last two Border-Gavaskar series played in Australia, but this time Australia will enter the series as favorites. India want to go with a full-strength team, which is why Jasprit Bumrah is likely to be rested for the upcoming Bangladesh series.

Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah make a deadly combo who have delivered consistently. Meanwhile, India will also try out a few other backup options in the coming Tests against New Zealand and Bangladesh at home. However, Shami, who is coming from an injury, will have to prove his match fitness, and he is likely to play a few games in the coming Ranji Trophy 2024-25.

Rinku Singh ignores CSK or MI; reveals the team he wants to play for in IPL 2025 if KKR release him

Rinku Singh made a name for himself when he finished the IPL 2023 as the leading scorer for Kolkata Knight Riders. It was a successful season for him, where he smashed five consecutive sixes off Yash Dayal to win the game for KKR in a thrilling game.

Those performances helped him make his debut for Team India, and he didn’t let the opportunity slip away and did well for India in the limited chances he had. Rinku Singh has been part of Kolkata Knight Riders since 2018.

The franchise has groomed him into a match-winning superstar. But will KKR retain him ahead of the IPL 2025, or will he have a new team in the coming season? Well, Rinku reveals the team that he wants to play for.

The 18th edition of the Indian Premier League will have a mega auction. All ten teams can only retain a limited number of players, which will force them to release most of their stars ahead of the IPL 2025 auction. That’s where Rinku Singh revealed a team that he wants to be part of if KKR releases him in 2025.

In a recent interview with Sports Today, he revealed that he wants to play for RCB with Virat Kohli. When asked about which team he would want to play for, he said, “RCB, because Virat is there.” Rinku is with KKR for a price of INR 55 lakh.

The three-time champions already have a few confirmed retentions, but they might look to use the Right to Match (RTM) card for Rinku Singh to have him back. The left-hander was part of the T20I series against Sri Lanka, which India won by a 3-0 margin.

He even bowled in the first game and bowled one over. It was the 19th over of the game where he picked up two wickets to change the outcome of the match. Rinku Singh is not part of the upcoming Duleep Trophy 2024 because his numbers in the Ranji Trophy aren’t good.

IPL Auction: Four unsold IPL 2024 players who might play in IPL 2025

0

IPL 2025: The 2024 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) concluded on an entertaining note as Shreyas Iyer led Kolkata Knight Riders went on to lift their third IPL trophy in the final of the cash-rich T20 league by eight wickets against Pat Cummins’ Sunrisers Hyderabad at the MA Chidambaram Stadium of Chennai. IPL 2024 is over and now the focus will shift to IPL 2025. Next year’s edition will feature a mega-auction and a lot of changes will be made in the squads of all the franchises.

The official date of the mega-auction has yet to be revealed but the announcement is expected to be made soon. All the ten participating teams are working on preparing their strategies for the upcoming IPL Auction and some big players might get released ahead of the 2025 Mega Auction while teams would also be looking to retain their match-winning players as well. In this article, we will take a look at five players who might get picked by the teams in the upcoming mega-auction after remaining unsold in IPL 2024.

Five players that might get picked by the teams in the upcoming mega-auction after remaining unsold in IPL 2024:

#1. Ben Stokes

3 players franchises should look out for in the IPL 2025 Auction
Ben Stokes

England’s test skipper Ben Stokes didn’t participate in the 2024 season of the IPL in order to manage his fitness and workload. He was picked by five time winners Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in IPL 2023, but he wasn’t able to contribute in a proper way due to injuries. But, this time around, Stokes would be looking to turn things around and rule the IPL once again. The 33-year-old participated in this year’s Hundred as well and it’s believed that the All-Rounder will be looking to make a comeback in IPL 2025.

#2. Steve Smith

IPL 2025: Five unsold IPL 2024 players who might play in IPL 2025
Steve Smith

Australia’s highly skilled batsman Steve Smith has not participated in the the last three editions of the tournament. He last played in the cash-rich tournament in 2021 for 2020 runners-up Delhi Capitals (DC) and he didn’t perform according to expectations in that season.

He only managed to score 152 runs in eight matches at a below-par average of 25. 33 and a really poor strike rate of 112.59. Due to his below-average performance that year, he went unsold in the mini auctions of 2022 and 2023.

However, things have changed since then and Smith has returned to his red-hot form. In the recently concluded season of Major League Cricket (MLC), the 35-year-old finished as the second-highest run-getter of the competition as he amassed 336 runs in nine innings at a really good strike rate of 148.67 with an average of 56. He even scored three half-centuries and considering his recent excellent form, the franchises would be looking to add Smith to their squad for the next three seasons.

#3. Sarfaraz Khan

To secure their place in Test cricket, these players will definitely have to play Duleep Trophy 2024
IPL Auction: Four unsold IPL 2024 players who might play in IPL 2025 7

Right-handed batsman Sarfaraz Khan is a player who is regarded as a highly talented one and has been a prolific run-getter in the Ranji Trophy for Mumbai. However,  in the last few years, he has failed to replicate his Domestic Cricket form in the IPL.
He represented the Delhi Capital in IPL 2023 but he had an abysmal season with the bat as he was able to score just 53 runs in four matches at a miserable strike rate of 85.48. Due to his poor outing with the bat, he was eventually dropped from the playing 11.

Due to a poor IPL 2023, he was not able to find any potential suitors and remained unsold. But, 2024 has been kind to Sarfaraz. The batter made his test debut against England earlier this year and scored three useful half-centuries which helped India win the test series by a margin of 4-1.

He has proven to be a consistent performer in the Ranji Trophy and this may just help him find a franchise to play for in the upcoming IPL 2025.

#4. Tabraiz Shamsi

IPL 2025: Four unsold IPL 2024 players who might play in IPL 2025
Tabraiz Shamsi

Tabraiz Shamsi is a player who is regarded as one of the best chinaman spinners in the world of Cricket. He previously represented the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in 2016 and Rajasthan Royals (RR) in 2021.

However, since then he has remained unsold in the auctions of 2022, 2023, and 2024 as well. But this time around in the mega auction of IPL 2025, his fortunes might change as he had a really good T20 World Cup 2024 with the ball and his commendable performances might land him a contract in the mega-auction.

IPL 2025: 3 Teams who might search for a new captain in 2025

IPL 2025: The 18th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2025) will see a mega auction ahead of the start of the season. It will be the same as we saw in 2022. We might see a lot of chopping and changing as there is a limitation on retention.

Many big names will come under the hammer because a team can only retain a maximum of 4 or 6 players. Some teams even release their captain, which will change the whole scenario.

A few teams might release their captains as well and will search for a new leader in the IPL 2025. Hence, we will discuss here about three such teams who might look for a new captain ahead of the IPL 2025 auction.

IPL 2025: Three teams who might search a new captain in 2025

3. Lucknow Super Giants

IPL 2025: 3 Teams who might search for a new captain in 2025
IPL 2025

Lucknow Super Giants made their IPL debut in 2022 during the mega auction. KSG appointed KL Rahul as the captain of the team. LSG also made two playoffs in three seasons.

But some reports confirm that they will be releasing Rahul and will look for a new captain for the IPL 2025. It will be interesting to know whether they will appoint the captain from the retained list or will they buy someone and appoint him the captain.

2. Punjab Kings

IPL 2025: 3 Teams who might search for a new captain in 2025
IPL 2025

Shikhar Dhawan is the captain of Punjab Kings, and Sam Curran is a stand-in captain. PBKS has not made the playoffs since 2014. So, it’s been a long time now. Neither Dhawan nor Curran could lead the team to the playoffs.

Hence, PBKS is desperate for a good show in the IPL 2025. Hence, the franchise might look to build a new team with a new captain who can lead them further.

1. Royal Challengers Bengaluru

IPL 2025: 3 Teams who might search for a new captain in 2025
Royal Challengers Bengaluru

Royal Challengers Bengaluru are one of the teams that have not won the IPL title until now despite playing since the beginning. Currently, Faf du Plessis is leading the side since 2022, and RCB has made it to the playoffs in two seasons.

But until now, they haven’t gotten their hands on the trophy. Du Plessis is 40 years old, and retaining him for another 3 years can be a dicey decision. Hence, RCB will also be among the team, who might go for captain’s shopping at the 2025 auction.

PAK vs BAN: Pakistan Opt for an All-Out Pace attack in 1st Test vs BAN; Release Mystery spinner Abrar Ahmed and batter Kamran Ghulam 14

Pakistan have picked up a pace-heavy attack, and now they have released spinner Abrar Ahmed and top-order batter Kamran Ghulam from the squad. It indicates the plan of the hosts, as they are looking to go with an all-out pace heavy bowling attack in the first test.

Abrar and Kamran will join Pakistan Shaheens for the second four-day clash against Bangladesh A. This four-day match will take place on August 20 in Islamabad. The first four-day game ended in a draw. Abrar has been in and out of the team for a while now but hasn’t gotten many chances to play.

Hence, the Pakistani management wants to give the spinner sufficient time, which he can get by playing the game against Bangladesh A. On the other hand, Kamran will be leading Pakistan Shaheens in this game. These two will join the team ahead of the second PAK vs BAN Test in Lahore. The second PAK vs BAN game will start on August 30.

A number of players like Sarfaraz Ahmed, Saud Shakeel, Mir Hamza, Mohammad Ali, Mohammad Huraira, Naseem Shah, and Saim Ayub, who were part of the first four-day game, have now joined the team. Hence, to compensate, Abrar and Kamran have joined Shaheens with Imam Ul Haq, Ali Zaryab, Niaz Khan, Qasim Akram, Mohammad Awais Anwar, Sharoon Siraj, and Rohail Nazir.

IPL 2025 Auction: CSK CEO Viswanathan denies asking the BCCI to bring the Uncapped-player rule back

0

IPL 2025 Auction: The possible return of the ‘Uncapped Player Rule’ ahead of next year’s IPL 2025 has been a highly discussed topic among cricket experts and fans across the globe, as the return of this rule might allow CSK’s former skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni to continue playing the IPL for a few more years.

According to some news reports, the five time IPL winners had reportedly requested the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) to bring the uncapped-player rule back, which let’s a player who has retired from international cricket for a minimum of five years get retained as an uncapped player by the IPL franchises. This rule was introduced in the inaugural edition of the cash-rich T20 league in 2008 before being removed in 2021. If this rule makes a comeback ahead of IPL 2025, then Chennai Super Kings can retain the services of the legendary MS Dhoni till IPL 2027, and getting retained as an uncapped player will mean that CSK’s salary cap will not get affected as well.

However, CSK’s CEO Kasi Viswanathan has denied asking the BCCI to bring the Uncapped-player rule back. He went on to say that the Indian Cricket Governing Body had let the five time IPL winners know that they themselves are planning to bring the rule back.

“I don’t have any idea about asking the BCCI to bring the uncapped-player rule back. We didn’t request that they bring it back. The BCCI themselves informed us and the other franchises that the Uncapped-player rule may get reintroduced. They haven’t given any concrete confirmation regarding the rule making a comeback ahead of IPL 2025,” Kasi Viswanathan told Times of India’s Gaurav Gupta in an interview.

MS Dhoni all set to play in IPL 2025 as Uncapped player; BCCI to bring old retention rule
MS Dhoni

In accordance with the previous rules of retention, an uncapped player can get retained by an IPL franchise for a maximum price of 4 Crore Indian Rupees. In the mega auction of IPL 2022, the Yellow Army had retained MS Dhoni as a capped player for 12 Crore Indian Rupees. Dhoni helped the franchise lift the IPL trophy for the fifth time in 2023.

However, just a few days before the beginning of IPL 2024, the legendary skipper announced that he would step down as the captain of the Chennai-based franchise, and opening batter Ruturaj Gaikwad would take over the leadership duties from him. Under the leadership of Gaikwad, the Men in Yellow ended IPL 2024 in fifth place in the league phase of the tournament.

MSD played some really entertaining and fabulous cameos for CSK in the previous edition of the Indian Premier League and ended the tournament with an outstanding strike rate of 220.55 next to his name. The Super Kings fans will want their Thala to play one more season in the IPL before calling a day on what has proven to be a really legendary career.
