In recent matchups, Pakistan started strong, winning their first two Tests against Sri Lanka before hitting a rough patch with two losses against Australia. Meanwhile, Bangladesh managed a single victory over New Zealand but struggled afterward, losing the rematch with the Kiwis and two more against Sri Lanka.

When Bangladesh takes on Pakistan, they are expected to meet with a tough battle, especially on spin-friendly pitches where the challenge only intensifies.

IPL 2025: 3 Unlucky Captains who might be released of 2025 Mega Auction

IPL 2025: It is time for the preparation for the 18th edition of the Indian Premier League. The IPL 2025 season will host a mega auction. All ten teams will have to release most of their players, as the limitation for retentions is a maximum of 5-6 per team.

That means some of the biggest names will come into the auction and will be available to grab. Not just players; some of the captains might seek out new franchises. Every mega auction changes the outlook of the team from coach to captain.

Hence, there are a number of IPL captains who might be under scanner ahead of the IPL 2025. In this article, we will talk about three captains who might not be retained ahead of the IPL 2025.

Three Captains who are likely to be released ahead of the IPL 2025 auction

1. KL Rahul

KL Rahul IPL 2025
IPL 2025: 3 Unlucky Captains who might be released of 2025 Mega Auction 6

KL Rahul left Punjab Kings and joined the new franchise Lucknow Super Giants in 2022. He led the franchise for three seasons, and the team made it to the playoffs twice. But in 2024, they couldn’t finish in the top four, and during a game, owner Sanjeev Goenka was seen slamming Rahul.

That has raised speculations of Rahul leaving LSG ahead of the IPL 2025. The Adani Group will be taking over the franchise, and they might look to build a new team for them. That’s where Rahul might face an axe.

2. Shikhar Dhawan

IPL 2025: 3 Unlucky Captains who might be released of 2025 Mega Auction 7

Veteran Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan has been part of Punjab Kings since 2022 as a captain. But in the last two seasons, he has missed quite a few matches, and Sam Curran has led the team in his absence. Dhawan has been in and out due to injury in the last couple of seasons.

He is also in the final half of his career at the age of 38. He won’t be getting younger, and it might be hard for him to play for another three seasons. That’s why there are high chances that Punjab Kings might release their captain Dhawan ahead of the IPL 2025 auction.

3. Faf du Plessis

Another big and unfortunate name on this list is South African superstar Fafdu Plessis. The 38-year-old had three successful seasons with Royal Challengers Bengaluru. He also led RCB to two playoffs, but there are some media reports claiming that RCB might release their captain.

Age can be a big factor in this decision, and RCB might look to give the captaincy to someone new and try out new things. That will leave Du Plessis to find out a new team for the IPL 2025.

3 Nations that can host ICC Womens T20 World Cup 2024 if it shifts from Bangladesh

0

The ICC Womens T20 World Cup 2024 is all set to get underway in a couple of months time. This will be one of the biggest ICC events in women’s cricket, and the six-time champion Australia will defend their title. The tournament will have a total of ten teams that will compete in 23 games between October 3 and October 20.

These matches will be played in Dhaka and Sylhet in Bangladesh. But the current situation in Bangladesh is not well, as they are going through massive domestic turmoil at the moment. That might force some participating teams to look for security. The International Cricket Council has not made a statement official, and they are reviewing the conditions closely.

But there is a chance that the ICC might shift the ICC Womens T20 World Cup 2024 to a new place. In this article, we will talk about the three possible hosts for the ICC Womens T20 World Cup 2024, if it might shift from Bangladesh.

3. South Africa

South Africa hosted the last edition of the ICC Womens T20 World Cup last year, which Australia won. It was a successful tournament, and it went through a smooth operation under Cricket South Africa.

So, they can be considered to host the ICC event in consecutive years. They have managed some big cricket tournaments on short notice in the past and can be a good option to host the ICC Womens T20 World Cup 2024 this year.

2. India

India ICC Womens T20 World Cup 2024
3 Nations that can host ICC Womens T20 World Cup 2024 if it shifts from Bangladesh 13

Without a doubt, India will be among the front-runners to host the ICC Womens T20 World Cup 2024 if it moves out of Bangladesh. India have a huge experience of hosting ICC events and will be hosting some big events in the coming years in both men’s and women’s cricket.

Adding to that, the weather conditions in India during October are perfect and pleasant, where you can play cricket matches, and broadcasters will get paid better if the tournament comes in to India. And the success of the Women’s Premier League makes India a perfect place to host women’s matches.

1. Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka ICC Womens T20 World Cup 2024
3 Nations that can host ICC Womens T20 World Cup 2024 if it shifts from Bangladesh 14

Sri Lanka might come as the first choice for the ICC Womens T20 World Cup 2024. The conditions in Bangladesh and Sri Lanka are not different, and recently Sri Lanka hosted the Women’s Asia Cup 2023 successfully.

They hosted the third edition of the Women’s T20 World Cup in 2012, and the Sri Lankan cricket board will be more than happy to host this ICC event. The weather conditions are also better during that time of year, and the ICC can think to reward them with the hosting rights.

ICC Men’s ODI Team Rankings: The time has come for the ICC ODI Team rankings and the International Cricket Council has recently updated the standings after the India tour of Sri Lanka 2024. This post reads the ICC Men’s ODI Team Rankings Updated After IND vs SL ODI Series.

India recently toured Sri Lankan Island where they played a three-match T20I series followed by a three-match ODI series. The T20I series was full of joy for the visitors but the home team took a satisfying revenge in the ODI series.

IND vs ENG: With India’s only probable chance to secure an ODI XI remaining in the series against England, changes that India must bring to their team before the Champions Trophy
(Image: myKhel)

Despite the comeback of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and other ODI specialists, India lost the ODI series 2-0 in the three-match ODI series. The first match resulted in a tie, followed by a good finish by Shivam Dube and a big miss by Arshdeep Singh. India lost the second and third ODI while chasing 240s at the R Premadasa Stadium, Colombo.

The Sri Lankans were the underdogs for the series. Injured Sri Lanka were anyhow trying to assemble their bowling powerhouses to give any competition to the visiting team but look how they come up to the rescue when it mattered the most. As most of the pacers were missing out on the series, the curators were asked to plant a spinning track and that is where they used the surface to their benefit.

Nothing to take anything away from the Sri Lankan bowlers. They were brilliant with the ball and tangled the Indian batters at every turn. Hence, a 2-0 ODI series win has earned them precious 3 Rating points and now they have overtaken England.

ICC Men’s ODI Team Rankings After IND vs SL ODI Series 2024

In the recent updates announced by the ICC, Sri Lanka climbed a spot and overtook England in the ICC Men’s ODI Team Rankings. Sri Lanka previously had 94 rating points and after their series win, they have earned three 3 rating points. Now they are the 6th Ranked ODI team with 97 rating points.

Though India lost the bilateral series, India is still number one in the ODI team rankings. Indian bowlers did a fairly decent job but Sri Lanka were way ahead of us. India are the top-ranked team with 118 rating points.

They are followed by the World Champions Australia with 116 rating points after 34 matches. South Africa are also in the TOP 3 with 112 ratings. Below is the ICC Men’s ODI Team Rankings Updated After IND vs SL ODI Series 2024:

Rahul Dravid is likely to make a comeback with Rajasthan Royals and Kumara Sangakkara is likely to join ECB as their white-ball coach

The England Cricket Board (ECB) has been on the hunt for a new coach for quite some period of time since their 2022 T20 World Cup-winning coach Matthew Mott stepped down from coaching the English national team, after their humiliating losses in the World Cup 2023 and the semi-final loss in their title defence during the T20 World Cup 2024 in the United States.

On the other hand, former Indian veteran batter, Rahul Dravid stepped down from India’s head coach role as a national hero. He not only led India to a successful final in the World Cup 2023, where they entered undefeated before losing in the final to the Aussies.

Later in the T20 World Cup 2024, also under Gambhir and Indian skipper Rohit Sharma, India went into the finals undefeated despite a roller-coaster ride throughout the tournament. In the final as well, India pulled the match from nowhere, as he succeeded in leading them to an iconic victory for the second time since the inaugural T20 World Cup played in 2007.

Now, Gautam Gambhir has been placed for the Indian team as their head coach after Dravid stepped down. Dravid was initially linked with the Kolkata Knight Riders, as he was supposed to take the place of the mentor, which Gambhir had left vacant.

ALSO READ: India hopes for Mohammad Shami’s probable return

However, some recent reports suggest that Rahul Dravid will take over as Rajasthan Royals’ head coach from the upcoming season of the IPL, as the former veteran, is about to return to his years old franchise.

The Lankan veteran, Kumara Sangakara, who is the World’s second-highest run-getter in the wide pool of international cricketers, had had the best of seasons with Rajasthan Royals. The Royals, who had never been the side that won the inaugural season in 2008, were revived with Sangakara’s coming.

Sangakara, built a formidable side, as he led them to successive playoffs, his first full season was in 2022, where they entered the finals and lost to Gujarat Titans while their latest legacy was in the Qualifier 2 loss against Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2024.

Reports also suggest that the Royals Director of Cricket position will be taken over by Dravid, and likely Kumara Sangakara is to be linked as England’s white-ball coach. Though nothing has been confirmed by either the Royals or the ECB, McCullum who remains England’s red-ball coach might find Sangakara as his colleague for the ECB, if reports are to be believed.

India hopes for Mohammad Shami’s probable return. Good for the Men in Blue, with the Champions Trophy and WTC final coming up the following year

India will not have many games recently, especially until the Bangladesh team travels to India for the home series. Though with the current political unrest in Bangladesh, this series remains doubtful, yet India is gearing up for a home season, which will mostly include the games in the longest format of the game as a part of their WTC cycle.

India in their recent loss have likely missed on several areas, but one of the major areas of concern has also been Siraj’s inability to produce wickets and hence the selectors as well as India’s new head coach in search of new players from the upcoming domestic seasons, which will be either the Ranji or Duleep Trophy which will be played later this year.

One of India’s finest players, Mohammad Shami, the right-arm pacer, India’s current most experienced pacer, is likely recovering from his injury at the National Cricket Academy. It was an ankle injury that ruled India’s ace bowler from participation in any international or domestic games since the end of the Cricket World Cup in November 2023.

Initially, Shami’s ankle injury was considered minor, though he was advised to get himself ready for surgery after he saw repeated swelling in the region when he was stationed at the NCA, as a result of which he was withdrawn from India’s tour of South Africa.

Following his surgery, Mohammad Shami not only missed games for his national side but also missed an entire season for the Gujarat Titans, as a result of which he was also not seen for India in their T20 World Cup triumph. Shami in the last Cricket World Cup played 7 games for India and was not a part of the team initially, though was included when Pandya was ruled out due to injury. He went on to pick 24 wickets at an alarming rate of 12.20, averaging almost 10.70.

ALSO READ: IND vs ENG: With India’s only probable chance to secure an ODI XI remaining in the series against England, changes that India must bring to their team before the Champions Trophy

India will play their next series against Bangladesh in a two-match home test series in September, and hence it is likely for Shami to make a comeback by then. Before the Sri Lanka series, Ajit Agarkar had accepted that Shami was recovering from injuries and he had started to bowl in the nets. The chief selector also made a bold claim, as he said Shami, Siraj, and Bumrah have been around for some time and are hence the obvious picks.

Shami is currently in his final stages of rehab, though nothing has been confirmed by the BCCI or even the NCA members. If he recovers, Shami has shown interest in first starring for his state team of Bengal before making a return to the national side.

Even if Shami misses the Bangladesh or New Zealand home series, he would still have plenty of time left to make a probable comeback as the Australian tour, the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, is scheduled later in November, after the Kiwi home series ends on November 5th. Only after the Aussie series can he be back for the Indian side in the England tour, playing across multiple formats, as India eye to prepare him for both the Champions Trophy and the WTC final later in June the coming year in 2025.

3 Franchises who can target Ricky Ponting for Head Coach ahead of the IPL 2025

IPL 2025: All ten franchises are in preparation for the upcoming 18th edition of the Indian Premier League. All teams need to make some big decisions ahead of the IPL 2025 because there is a mega auction scheduled in 2025.

The franchises need to release most of their players and will be forming a new team. Not just players; some of the IPL franchises will be searching for new coaching staff as well. Recently, a few franchise made some changes as Delhi Capitals and Ricky Ponting parted ways.

But recently, under Ponting, Washington Freedom went on to win the Major League Cricket 2024. Ricky Ponting also confirmed that he is willing to join an IPL team as a head coach for the IPL 2025. So, we will talk about three IPL teams that can target Ponting for the role of head coach for the IPL 2025.

Three Teams who can target Ricky Ponting as Head Coach for IPL 2025

1. Mumbai Indians

Ricky Ponting Mumbai Indians IPL 2025
3 Franchises who can target Ricky Ponting for Head Coach ahead of the IPL 2025 25

Mumbai Indians have made the playoffs only once in the last four seasons, and they are desperately in need of good performances. In search of this, they brought back Hardik Pandya and gave him the captaincy in 2024, and there might be chances that the franchise might try to get Ricky Ponting back for the IPL 2025.

Ponting recently added a MLC trophy, and MI is also searching for someone who can do well with coaching duties and knows the franchise well. And Ponting can be the right guy for the job. Under Mark Boucher, MI had a poor season as well.

2. Kolkata Knight Riders

Ricky Ponting KKR IPL 2025
3 Franchises who can target Ricky Ponting for Head Coach ahead of the IPL 2025 26

Kolkata Knight Riders made history and lifted their third IPL title under Shreyas Iyer in 2024. KKR had a memorable season, and they were the best team of the tournament. But now Gautam Gambhir, along with Abhishek Nayar and Ten Doeschate, have joined Indian teams and might end their ties with KKR.

That’s where the franchise will look for a new coaching staff. Ricky Ponting can be a good option for this role. He is an experienced player who has immense experience in coaching and will benefit the team.

3. Lucknow Super Giants

Ricky Ponting LSG IPL 2025
3 Franchises who can target Ricky Ponting for Head Coach ahead of the IPL 2025 27

Another franchise that can look to have Ricky Ponting on their side for the IPL 2025 can be Lucknow Super Giants. Justin Langer, who is very close to Ponting, is the head coach of LSG. But since Gambhir left the team in 2024, the role of mentor is still open.

That’s where Langer himself can suggest the franchise bring Ponting to the team, and then these Australian duos make necessary changes in the team. LSG couldn’t make the playoffs in 2024 and will be determined to bounce back.

IND vs ENG: With India’s only probable chance to secure an ODI XI remaining in the series against England, changes that India must bring to their team before the Champions Trophy

IND vs ENG: India was ranked the best in the world, as they have been crowned as No. 1 in the ICC rankings. This was the greatest feat achieved in the Rahul Dravid era, while he also led India to a World Cup final after 12 long years, as India did not qualify for the finals of the World Cup before 2023 since their famous victory at the Wankhede in 2011.

Though India is yet to win the World Cup under Rohit Sharma, yet during his captaincy days with Dravid, he emerged as one of the greatest sides, winning all bilaterals and even ICC matches, only losing a single game to the Aussies that is in the World Cup.

Recently, social media has been in the buzz, as Gautam Gambhir has lost his first-ever international series. A huge record was made as Sri Lanka defeated them after 27 long years for the for the first time since 1997. Shouts of ‘Resign Gambhir, return Dravid, sir” have spread out loud.

However, after the series defeat against Sri Lanka, the criticism has not been limited to only the Indian coach, as the fury has also fallen over the skipper and the players. However, the skipper is not to blame, as he has done everything possible. But still, several issues are to be addressed in the Indian team before the Champions Trophy, and let’s see a few of them.

Shubman Gill is not ready to be assigned big roles for the Indian team.

The 24-year-old Indian opening batsman has been assigned to big roles very early on in his career. The star batter has often been considered the future of Indian cricket and is also referred to as Prince, bringing comparisons with a young Virat Kohli.

Criticisms flow in as Gill continues bad form

But the social media and even the players scream out loud that he cannot be the future of Indian cricket. He was recently named the Indian vice captain, but still, likes of Yashasvi Jaiswal should still be considered for replacing him in the format. Jaiswal, who is seen as the best batter in the other two formats, should now be considered ideal for replacing a put-of-touch Gill, who has been provided too many opportunities since his weak form has continued for over a year now.

Need to find a replacement for Md. Siraj

Siraj, who has been considered firm bowling options alongside veteran Jasprit Bumrah, finally needs the Indian team to take a call on his future. His inability to produce wickets has been a huge problem for the Men in Blue, as Bumrah deserves a better companion in the bowling deck.

If Mohammad Shami can be ideally brought back in the format and he is fit to feature for India, then the problem can be easily solved, as the world has witnessed what the Bumrah-Shami duo can produce even on the best of batting tracks, as they did in the World Cup 2023. However, if not Shami, then the likes of young Avesh and Harshit Rana should be tried on to replace Siraj.

Spin can’t be a problem for India. Likes of the great Virat Kohli must get rid of his weak patch against Spinners.

This is not only a matter of concern but also a humiliation, as the country that has produced one of the finest spinners, as well as the players of spin, is now facing trouble handling spin. While addressing this issue, Rohit also claimed that the problem not only arose against Wellalage and Vandersay but also even against Asalanka, who is the part-timer, as he picked 6 wickets in two games he bowled in.

The greatest of players who are now disturbed by spin should focus on bettering their stats, as this has been on the front, that India can be demolished on spin pitches. With the Champions Trophy to be scheduled in India, they should focus on this major issue.

Likes of veterans Jadeja and Pandya should be brought back and not ignored.

Gambhir showed great audacity in having dropped Ravindra Jadeja from the ODI format, despite Hardik Pandya already missing the series due to personal reasons. However, both all-rounders should be included in India’s ODI squad, as they can be of great value to the Indian side.

The next series and hopefully the Champions Trophy all should feature the two all-rounders, as the likes of Shivam Dube and Sundar might not be ideal to release these greats of the game. Even Riyan Parag can be handy for India; since the retirement of players like Suresh Raina and later Kedar Jadhav, India has not had players who can slip in a few overs and also pick a wicket or so. Parag, in his ODI debut, picked 3 wickets and proved that he can be handy in the role.

The Indian Men’s Hockey team bids adieu to Indian hockey legend PR Sreejesh with a historic Olympic bronze

0

The Indian Men’s Hockey team scripted history, as they won the Olympic bronze medal for the second consecutive time in the Olympics. The Indian hockey team has been one of the finest teams in the world of international hockey, as they defended their medal tally from the Tokyo summer Olympics held four years back in 2020.

India was led by Harmanpreet Singh in the Paris Olympics Field Hockey event, as they first defeated the mighty Aussies in a group stage match, ending a long one-sided rivalry of over 52 years.

India emerged as one of the most legendary teams in the history of the Olympics, as they next defeated Great Britain in the quarterfinals to enter the semis. This effort was largely praised by many legends and even countrymen as they entered the competition for a medal.

Men’s hockey is the most successful event that has been the best for the Olympic medal race, as the Indian men’s hockey team since the start of the Olympic games has won 8 gold medals last year, a silver, as well as 3 bronze medals, with the last two in the previous two editions of the Olympic games in 2020 and 2024.

However, in the semi-final, India faced Germany, the team they had defeated in the bronze medal match back in Tokyo four years ago. They ended the scoreline 5-4 against the Germans in a fearsome game last time; however, the Germans had their revenge as they secured a victory against India 3-2 in the semis of Olympic 2024.

India could not advance into the finals and rather featured in a bronze medal match against Spain, whom they had defeated several times before. First lacking behind in the scoreline, the Indian skipper pulled back the game, as Harmanpreet scored twice, first in the ending minutes of the second half.

While he extended the lead with his opening-minute goal in the third half, the Indian defence and later a 10-man India side and the stunning legend PR Sreejesh held their nerves to take India to a nail-biting Olympic bronze medal. The legend, the man the myth, Sreejesh, retires from the game after a splendid career that is now adorned by two Olympic medals as well. Though his retirement still remains under the radar.
