Indian openers started things in Rohit Sharma fashion. Sharma started with aggression and smashed his second fifty of the series and this time, he hit 50 on just 29 deliveries. India scored 76 runs in the first powerplay which was far better than what Sri Lanka scored in their powerplay.

Rohit Sharma became the first prey for Sri Lanka and he got out on 64(44). The replacement of Hasaranga, Jeffrey Vandersay was the man for the team and perfectly filled his shoes. He again came in the 18th over and dismissed the set batter Shubman Gill and big fish Shivam Dube in the same over and brought Sri Lanka back in the game.

After that, Vandersay single-handedly destroyed the Indian middle order and sent Virat, Shreyas and KL Rahul back to the pavilion for cheap. The two left-handers- Washington Sunder and Axar Patel started to set foot and weaved a partnership under really hard conditions.

The legend, who had six centuries to his name, was surpassed by Rohit, who scored his seventh (7) against Afghanistan in the Cricket World Cup 2023.


This time around he has produced something very different to once again get past the legendary player, Rohit, who levelled himself with the likes of the legend in the 1st ODI with 120 50+ scores as an opener in the format, now has gone past Tendulkar with 121 such 50+ innings and is still counting. This was Rohit’s second 50 of the series, and both were scored within the powerplay at a very quick time, as he scored the first one with 33 balls and the next in just 29 balls.

In the second ODI, where Rohit came into bat while India are to chase a total of 241, he achieved another milestone as he went past Legendary Indian batter and former world cup winning coach Rahul Dravid, in the most ODI runs scored for India. Dravid who has 10768 runs now falls behind the Indian skipper who recently picked a single off Asitha Fernando, to reach the landmark of 10769 runs.


The fans did not had to wait long to cheer again, as Rohit now surpassed the likes of legendary Indian skipper and wk-batter, MS Dhoni who had 10,773 runs. Rohit hit two fours of Wellalage to go past Mahendra Singh Dhoni including runs for the Asian team as well.

Rohit also simultaneously went past Sourav Ganguly on the list for most ODI runs on Asian soil, as he now has advanced to the sixth spot. Also the like of a big knock, 78 might make him the sixth batter to complete 2000 ODI runs against the same opposition Sri Lanka. He will feature himself alongside greats, Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, MS Dhoni, Saeed Anwar and Inzamam-ul-Haq.

What awaits the Indian team is doubtful, yet Rohit Sharma if back in the groove will be a great sight to watch, as he seems to be in some great touch and is likely to send a strong message of his form and brilliance prior to the Champions Trophy 2025.
