IND vs SL: The three-match T20 series between India and Sri Lanka have ended, and India have snatched the victory from the jaws of defeat. They have managed to defend a low total and stunned the Sri Lankans to register a 3-0 clean sweep.

The game ended in a tie, and India won the Super Over with five balls to spare. It was a great effort from the spinners and part-time spinners. At one point, Sri Lanka needed 30 runs off 30 balls with nine wickets in hand.

But from that position, they went on to lose the game, which was a shock for the Sri Lankan fans. With this, India have won the IND vs SL T20 series 3-0, and it was a great start to the Gautam Gambhir and Suryakumar Yadav eras in T20Is. Some big records were broken in the IND vs SL third game, about which we will talk here.

IND vs SL

Most Wickets by Indian Spinners in T20I: Indian spinners took 8 wickets between them in the IND vs SL third game. This is the second-most in a match by Indian spinners. The most is ten wickets by Indian spinners against West Indies in 2022 in Lauderhill.

Third Series Whitewash: This is the third time that India have registered a clean sweep against Sri Lanka in a three-match series in T20Is. The first two clean sweeps came in 2017 and 2022.

Most defeats in T20Is: Unfortunately for Sri Lanka, now they hold the unwanted record of most defeats in the history of T20 Internationals. They have lost 105 T20Is, while Bangladesh are second with 104 defeats.

Most win against an Opponent: With a win in the third IND vs SL game, India have now won 22 T20I games against Sri Lanka out of 32. This is the second most T20I win against an opponent. Pakistan have won 23 matches against New Zealand out of 44, which is the most.

Most MOTS awards in T20Is: Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav was named the Player of the Series for his brilliant performance in the IND vs SL series. This was his fifth MOTS award, and he has equalled Shakib Al Hasan and David Warner with the second-most MOTS awards in T20Is. Virat Kohli is at the top with seven.

IND vs SL: After a low-scoring thriller, Gambhir pulls off the game to the Super Over with his crazy antics as Rinku and Surya bowl the last 2 overs of the innings

IND vs SL: The third T20 is being held at Pallekele, and Sri Lanka’s new skipper, Charith Asalanka, won the toss and elected to bowl as he put Surya led India to bat first. The Indians have batted well in the previous two matches.

However, this time India likely made several changes to their squad. Rishabh Pant, Hardik Pandya, and Arshdeep Singh have been rested for the game as Shivam Dube, Shubman Gill, and Khaleel Ahmed came into their starting XI.

Gill failed to perform well as he batted too many balls for his highest score of 39. The dynamic opener Jaiswal and also skipper Suryakumar Yadav failed to perform this time. India collapsed with Parag bringing in a counterattack and also Washington handing in some crucial runs as he was brought in for Axar Patel.

India again did not start very well with the ball, as the Lankans went 90 with the loss of just one wicket; however, Indian spinners now pulled off a stunner, as Bishnoi and Sundar struck thrice to resist Sri Lanka to 118/4. After the main spinners ended their quota of overs, then came Gambhir’s antics as he instructed the skipper to call in Rinku Singh for bowling the 19th over of the game.

With just 9 runs left, Rinku came to bowl, seeing the spin-favoring track. Rinku amazed all as he picked 2 wickets in the over and gave just 3 runs away, as Surya the skipper himself came to defend 6 runs in the last over and gave away only 2 runs in four balls and picked 2 wickets as well.

The Lankan batters took the score to a tie, and the game went into the super over. This once again reflected Gambhir’s unconventional techniques that were intended to give only promising results.

Washington Sundar was given the ball in the super over as India came in to bowl. Kusal Perera took a single off the first ball followed by an extra run; however, Sundar got rid of the two other batters, Perera and Nissanka, resisting Sri Lanka to a score of 2. The skipper hit a four of the first ball to take India home with a clean sweep over the hosts in the T20 series with a 3-0 victory.

Welcome folks you have entered the OG era of Indian cricket led by GG

Question remains who will be given the POTM, Washington Sundar, SKY, Rinku Singh or the tactical genius Gautam Gambhir?

IND vs SL: 3 players who might be dropped from T20Is if they fail in final game vs SL

0

IND vs SL: The third and final game of the three-match T20 series between India and Sri Lanka is all set to take place on Tuesday evening at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium. India have already won the IND vs SL series, and it is a dead rubber of the game.

But Suryakumar Yadav and Gautam Gambhir will look to end the series with a 3-0 clean sweep. However, as the visitors have already won the series, they might look to make some changes in their playing XI as well and give chances to those who haven’t done well.

Despite being a dead rubber, this game is very important because this could be the last chance for some of the players. Here we will talk about three players who can be dropped if they didn’t do well in this IND vs SL game.

IND vs SL: Three Players who might be dropped if they don’t do well in the third T20I

3. Riyan Parag

3 Youngsters who might not get another chance with Team India after failing in Zimbabwe T20Is IND vs SL
India Riyan Parag IND vs SL

Riyan Parag has been part of the both T20I and ODI squads. He took three wickets in the first game but went wicketless in the second match. He batted once and scored six runs. But he is picked in the team as a middle order batter.

Gambhir said that he was picked because Tilak Varma was injured. So it might be the last chance for Riyan. If he fails in the third IND vs SL game, he might not get another chance pretty soon.

2. Khaleel Ahmed

The left-arm pacer made his comeback for the side in the series against Zimbabwe. But so far he hasn’t gotten a chance against Sri Lanka. But he is expected to play the third IND vs SL game. India already have some young emerging pacers coming through the ranks.

Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami are not part of the current setup, and then there are Mukesh Kumar and Avesh Khan, who are also in the line. So irrespective of whether Khaleel plays the third game or not, he might be dropped from the squad.

1. Sanju Samson

Sanju Samson IND vs SL
Sanju Samson IND vs SL

Sanju Samson played the second game in place of Shubman Gill, as the opener had a back spasm. Samson is likely to play the third IND vs SL game as well. He bagged a golden duck in the second match and hasn’t grabbed the opportunity properly for India.

So if he plays the third game on Tuesday and fails to convert it, it might be difficult for him to maintain his place in the team. India are sticking with Rishabh Pant as first-choice wicketkeeper, then Jitesh Sharma and Dhurv Jurel are there. Abhishek Sharma and Ruturaj Gaikwad are waiting for a top-order spot. So it will become tough for Samson in the future.

IND vs SL: With the nearing end of Sri Lanka T20s, who can be the likes of Gambhir’s starting XI for the Asia Cup?

IND vs SL: India is playing their first major international series, comprising all the active players who were a part of the World Cup-winning squad. The World Cup triumph saw three greats of Indian cricket, Rahul Dravid as coach and Rohit and Virat as players, step down from the shortest format of the game.

Soon after, Dravid was replaced by Gautam Gambhir as team India’s head coach throughout all formats. Also, Gautam Gambhir now leads a team that has a massive blend of young talents led by senior experienced players, of which Suryakumar Yadav, India’s star batter in the format, was chosen over their dynamic all-rounder Hardik Pandya for the role of the Indian T20I captain.

Surya, who had previously had success with the Indian team as a skipper, first against a home series win over Australia followed by a rain-affected draw with the Proteas on their soil. With a 2-0 lead, India has already secured a series win over Sri Lanka in the T20is, and what awaits them is a whitewash.

Gambhir’s Team Selection for Sri Lanka T20s and Controversies

India took some great delay in announcing the team for the Sri Lanka tour after their young team led by Shubman Gill recently won a 4-1 series over Zimbabwe. Newly appointed coach Gambhir, alongside Chief Selector Agarkar, went on to choose a balanced yet lacking T20I side for the tour to the Lankan islands.

The first major upset made by Gambhir was over the snub of inform batter Ruturaj Gaikwad, who was in the buzz for being the ideal choice to fill the bug shoes of veteran Virat Kohli. However, he did not find a place in Gambhir’s 15-man squad, and so did Abhishek Sharma, who is in red-hot form, and even smashed a stunning ton in just the 2nd international appearance for his country.

Also, not having picked the likes of Avesh Khan and Mukesh Kumar, both of whom have been India’s frontline performers in the T20is, over Mohammad Siraj seemed to be a partial pick on the end of Gambhir.

Gambhir’s tactics in the Lankan T20s and results

Gambhir, despite facing severe criticism, stuck to his ground of having made an ideal team; as he said, despite being in good form, all players cannot be picked at all times.

Gambhir placed his bet on the same known opening pair of Gill and Jaiswal that paid off well in the first game before Gill sustained an injury serious enough to be ruled out of the 2nd T20I, only to be replaced by Samson, who miserably got out for a golden duck.

A stern middle-order led by skipper SKY at no. 3 and followed by the likes of Pant, Parag, and Big hitting Pandya and Rinku Singh down the order. Axar Patel was handed a spot at No. 8, not using much of his batting standards.

The bowling deck looked great with Bishnoi and Arshdeep showing some great composure, while Siraj didn’t land too well, as still India are ahead of the hosts by a clean 2-0 margin.

This is the Indian team’s first series victory under the new coach and truly a matter of joy.

The Asia Cup to follow in the upcoming year

Though for now Gambhir’s prime focus would be on having his team settled enough in the ODIs for his first ICC tournament, the Champions Trophy, to be held in February 2025. He also showed interest in having a fixed playing XI with whom he can conquer certain areas of discomfort in both the shortest format of T20s and tests, with the likes of the Asia Cup and the WTC final approaching.

Though recently the buzz has been over if India would travel to Pakistan for the CT 2025 or likely if they do not then what will be Pakistan’s stay on the Asia Cup to be held in India late in 2025. Still, Gambhir and co. would be ready from their end.

Gambhir’s probable choices and preferences for the Asia Cup 2025

Though the Asia Cup is far from now and India has a busy schedule the upcoming year and also the watchable IPL 2025, Gambhir would still look to have his men fixed in the pre-season.

Suryakumar Yadav, who doesn’t seem much affected by a captaincy role, might be brought in as the permanent T20I skipper for India.

With the dilemma still remaining over Gill, mostly after his fitness issues, Yashasvi Jaiswal is sure to be India’s top priority opener in T20s.

With Sanju Samson getting fewer chances in T20s and KL Rahul not seeming to make a likely return to the shortest format, Rishabh Pant can take his chances with the gloves.

Though Hardik was snubbed of captaincy, yet Gambhir never stepped back from acknowledging his prowess as a player, and hence one of the world’s finest all-rounders of white-ball cricket is sure to keep his place if he is not ruled out by injuries.

Players like Riyan Parag, Rinku Singh, and Shivam Dube will face some sheer threat, with the likes of Abhishek and Ruturaj awaiting a chance to replace them.

Axar and Bishnoi might keep up the latest conundrum and might lead India’s spin-bolwing attack if Kuldeep is mostly kept for ODIs and Tests. Also, the likes of Sundar and bowlers Mukesh Kumar and Khaleel Ahmed await their chances for Team India as they eye the Asia Cup 2025.

Gambhir’s Likely 15-Man Squad for the Asia Cup

Gambhir’s Likely 15-Man Squad for the Asia Cup: Suryakumar Yadav (c), Hardik Pandya, Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rishabh Pant, Sanju Samson, Shivam Dube, Axar Patel, Abhishek Sharma, Rinku Singh, Washington Sundar, Ravi Bishnoi, Harshit Rana, Khaleel Ahmed and Mukesh Kumar.

The new era of T20 cricket for the Indian team has taken a smooth take-off after the retirement of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Ravindra Jadeja. Surya Kumar Yadav has taken over the transitional team under the new head coach Gautam Gambhir and he has won the first series of his leadership in an away series.

IND vs SL 2024

One thing for sure happened in this series; India dominated with the bat. Less wickets in the powerplay is still an issue to tackle for Indian bowlers but they are doing a great job at the later half of the innings.

Sri Lanka are neither having a good batting performance, nor a decisive bowling show. They have lost the T20I series but with India to try a few new combination, Lanka might be thinking for a chance to snatch a win in the last T20I.

Below are the Strongest Playing 11s, Weather Forecast, and Pitch Report of Pallekele for IND vs SL 3rd T20I:

Pallekele International Cricket Stadium Pitch Report

In the first two matches, the teams that won the toss chose to bowl first. This is likely to happen again in the third T20I. The pitches have been good for both batters and spinners. Even Sri Lanka’s top-order batters scored quickly on the Pallekele pitch.

India chased a revised target of 78 runs in just 6.3 overs on Saturday. So, the pitch is good for batting, and the outfield is fast. We can expect a high-scoring game today.

IND vs SL 3rd T20I: With the series sealed—3 experimental changes Gambhir would look to make in the Starting XI

IND vs SL: India’s tour of Sri Lanka has been an exciting contest, as India has already sealed the series and proved that they are the reigning World Champions. India is playing under new head coach Gautam Gambhir and recently appointed Indian skipper Suryakumar Yadav.

The first two T20Is have gone in favor of the Indian side, which saw its greats retiring after their World Cup triumph. Players like Yashasvi Jaiswal, Suryakumar Yadav, Riyan Parag, and Ravi Bishnoi have been India’s star players in the series, and now Gambhir might favor his benched players to test the caliber of his bench.

3 Experimental Changes Gambhir might Look to Make in the 3rd T20I

Shivam Dube

India might include the likes of World Cup campaigner Shivam Dube and rest Hardik Pandya for the last T20I. This move would be made to give Dube some game time ahead of the ODI series. This would also test Dube’s bowling prowess and relieve Pandya of extra stress as he has had a long season since the IPL.

Shivam Dube might hence be brought in place of the terrific Pandya, who won the match for India with the bat after picking two wickets early on. Shivam Dube. The big left-handed all-rounder is a clean hitter of the cricket ball, while his bowling skills will be tested highly if he is called in for India.

Khaleel Ahmed

Khaleel, the lanky left-arm pacer from Delhi Capitals, was picked for the Indian side even as a World Cup reserve in the United States after his stunning show for the Capitals in IPL 2024. Known for his ability to swing the ball on both sides and landing variations, which often take the batters by surprise, he can be seen replacing Arshdeep Singh.

Gambhir, who might not be very impressed with Siraj’s antics in the game, might look to feature Khaleel in place of him as well.

Washington Sundar

Washington Sundar has been part of the part of the Indian team since long, as he has also picked 50 wickets in the shortest format. If Sanju Samson is given the role with the gloves, then even Pant can be dropped for the game, as Sundar might replace him with India coming to play alongside three spinners.

Sundar, who was the Player of the Series in the Zimbabwe tour, can also replace the likes of World Cup winner Axar Patel or be the substitute option in place of Ravi Bishnoi, who has been a special bowler in the series so far.

IND vs SL: 5 Indian players who will be crucial to look at in the Sri Lanka ODIs for India’s Champions Trophy selections

IND vs SL: India is on their tour to the Lankan Islands, and the T20Is are about to end with the last game being played at Pallekele on the 30th of July. After the shortest format of the game, Gambhir will lead them to his first-ever ODI series, which is scheduled to begin on the 2nd of August, as the team would next travel to Colombo.

Not many of the players who have been included in the T20 side have been given a chance in the longer format of white ball cricket. Surya, who is given the captaincy in the T20Is, has not been picked in the ODIs, while the likes of Sanju Samson, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rinku Singh, and Ravi Bishnoi would all be back home after the end of the T20I series.

The other players would join the likes of skipper Rohit Sharma, veteran Virat Kohli, and other greats like KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer, and youngster Harshit Rana, who might have the chance to make his debut in the absence of ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah.

5 players who are likely to perform under Gambhir to find a spot in the Champions Trophy

Shreyas Iyer

The KKR skipper has been one of India’s best batters in the format for the Men in Blue, which he portrayed in the last Cricket World Cup played in 2023. Iyer was one of India’s most standout batters and also the third-highest run-getter behind Rohit and Virat.

Despite his stunning form over the last few years, Iyer was snubbed of a BCCI annual contract, which caused much of a buzz. He was also not handed a call in the T20 World Cup, but he is back under Gambhir, and he can make it to the CT 2025 only if he excels under his ex-KKR mentor.

Rishabh Pant

Pant is making a comeback into the ODI team post his accident. Rishabh Pant made a comeback to the Indian team after having a decent IPL season, and the Men in Blue saw immediate success with the T20 World Cup trophy.

Pant, who has now lost his spot to players like Iyer and Rahul in the ODI team, must perform to the best of his merits to come into the limelight to be included in the squad for the Champions Trophy, which is scheduled to be held in Pakistan the coming year.

Shubman Gill

Gill was India’s top performer in ODIs when everyone seemed to be off touch; however, lately Gill has failed to perform in the format. His underperformance in the CWC 2023 saw him being snubbed of a chance at the USA T20 World Cup.

Selectors headed by Agarkar have proved that if any players underperform, however big a name they are, they do not stand a chance of being selected for the Men in Blue. As Jaiswal has once again not been provided an ODI spot, Gill would be the only likely choice with the skipper to open the innings, and he needs to play an innings of a lifetime to get his name among the team sheets.

However, Gill’s fitness has also been a concern, as he has always been seen facing troubles on the field when India plays under humid sub-continent conditions, especially if he goes deep in the innings. This adds to be a demerit to his selection chances.

ALSO READ: IND vs SL: Gautam Gambhir back with a bang—Replaces injured Shubman Gill with Sanju Samson in the Second T20I

Arshdeep Singh

Mohammad Shami and Jasprit Bumrah both can be the ideal players to be picked for the Champions Trophy if they both are fit and fine to play. Arshdeep was India’s lead bowler in the T20 World Cup, as he was also the tournament’s highest wicket-taker.

Considering him as the ideal 3rd choice bowler would not be wrong, as the lanky left-armer has been the best in the business. Singh would be placed ahead of Siraj if he can do equally well in the longer format of white ball cricket.

Washington Sundar

Dube reminds us much of Daryl Mitchell, as he is not great with the ball in hand. Though Pandya has been rested from ODIs, yet Dube is not the ideal choice to bring him down in the format.

Though Jadeja has been dropped in front of the series, his chances in the Champions Trophy remain firm. Sundar can be the better-off player to be considered ideal for replacing the veteran all-rounder, or also be placed ahead of Pandya if his fitness comes in the way of his Champions Trophy selection.

Washington Sundar is good at batting down the order, and he is efficient in bowling quick overs during the middle phase of the innings.

World Test Championship Points Table Updated After ENG vs WI 3rd Test; England Improving Their PCT With Big Impressions

World Test Championship Points Table 2023-25: England clean sweep West Indies in a three-match test series with a win in the final test match by 10 wickets. This win also pushed England’s PCT up and they are now close to that of Pakistan. This post reads the World Test Championship Points Table Updated After ENG vs WI 3rd Test.

Dominant England are back on business with their special brand of test cricket and the restart went quite smoothly and eye-catching. Aggressive shows by batters and attacking bowling tactics have been key for England in the past couple of years if we exclude the Ashes and India series.

West Indies showed great fights in the first two tests but defeating England in England is not a cakewalk. The third test was supposed to be even as the Edgebaston was supposed to favor West Indies bowlers as well, but England were really invincible.

Winning the toss, West Indies opted to bat first. Skipper Brathwaite played a heroic innings at the top against a swinging ball. The opening of the West Indies innings was pretty solid and then the English bowlers came back to the game with three wickets under 22 runs.

Jason Holder and Joshua da Silva played saviors for the West Indies and following their contribution down the order, WI posted 282 in the first innings. Gus Atkinson shone again for England and took another four-wicket haul.

England lost 3 wickets till the Stumps on Day 1 at just 31 runs and looked on the back foot. They also lost Pope and Brook early the next morning. It was Stokes and Root’s partnership that took the momentum back to England’s camp. The rookie Wicketkeeper batter Jimmie Smith and Woakes also contributed with big half-centuries.

England took the lead of 92 runs in the first innings. West Indies gave it up their all to overturn the lead but it took a lot of wickets from them and they could give only an 82-run target to England.

World Test Championship Points Table After ENG vs WI 3rd Test

England are still at 6th spot. They have won three matches on a run and still, they are suffering for the top 5 spots. This tells how bad the Ashes and the India Tour were for them. They are sixth with 6 wins in 13 matches and their PCT points are 36.54. They are trailing Pakistan by 0.12 PCT.

West Indies on the other hand started this series from the 7th spot and have slept down to the bottommost rank of the table with a PCT of less than 20.

India are still leading the chart as India and Australia don’t have any red ball series in the present times. New Zealand and Sri Lanka are at 50 PCT points and sitting at 3rd and 4th spots, respectively.
