IPL 2025: Punjab Kings are looking for an Indian Coach

0

IPL 2025: After Ricky Ponting’s removal from the post of IPL coach, now another Australian coach Trevor Bayliss can be removed from the IPL coaching responsibility. Bayliss is the head coach of Punjab Kings but currently his two-year contract has ended, while PBKS Franchisee does not seem to be in the mood to retain him again.

According to a report by Cricbuzz, Punjab Kings are looking for an Indian coach for IPL 2025. Now whether they will appoint an Indian coach or retain Trevor Bayliss again is a matter of discussion for the franchise. A meeting was scheduled for July 22 between the franchises to appoint the coach but the meeting was cancelled before it could take place.

IPL 2025: Punjab Kings are looking for an Indian Coach
Sanjay Bangar

Punjab Kings are still looking for their first trophy, under the coaching of Australian Trevor Bayliss, the team failed to perform well in IPL-2024 as well. The team won only five out of a total of 14 matches while they had to face defeat in nine matches.

According to reports, the franchise can appoint Sanjay Bangar as the head coach of the team. Bangar was the head coach of Punjab in IPL 2014-16, and currently he is the director of cricket development. Well, the franchise has not yet reached any decision on who will be their head coach, it is being speculated that the franchise can decide after the IPL-2025 mega auction.

After the successful tenure of the Indian coach, all the franchises are busy searching for an Indian coach for their team. The Indian team winning the World Cup under the coaching of Rahul Dravid, and the Kolkata Knight Riders becoming champions in IPL-2024 under the coaching of Gautam Gambhir are examples of the success of Indian coaching.

Royal Challengers Bangalore has also appointed its former player Dinesh Karthik as the head coach of RCB after his IPL retirement.

10 low-budget players who might face a significant rise in their price in the IPL 2025 mega auction

0

IPL 2024 saw many players who had a redeeming season for their franchise teams. From Abhishek Sharma’s breathtakingly aggressive opening batting alongside Head to Parag’s intense efforts in the middle order for the Royals, several players put in valiant efforts.

With the IPL mega auction approaching in the 2025 season, many teams have to release their very desired players; however, that might be advantageous for the players as they might find themselves in lucrative offers.

From the latest India debutants Abhishek and Parag to Aussies Travis Head and McGurk, let’s have a look at the topmost players who can draw attention in the mega-auction.

Travis Head: 6.80 crore

The Aussie veteran has been the star in World cricket. Since Finch’s retirement for Australia Head has been an all-format player, opening in white-ball cricket. Head since then has been unstoppable, as he led Australia to a World Cup triumph, a great display in the IPL 2024, and so in leagues around the world.

He was bought at a decent price of 6.80 crores, and his prices are surely going to rise by a huge amount even if SRH looks to acquire him using the RTM. Only if retained would the Aussie great see an undeserving amount.

Abhishek Sharma: 6.50 crore

One of the most talked-of talents in the last IPL. Scoring nearly 500 runs, Sharma was the highest six-hitter in the edition, and alongside Head, he formed the IPL’s most exciting opening pair.

Sharma, who was recently picked as a team India player, scored an international ton. The amazing talent might look to have higher price offers from teams across the IPL, just like his mentor had in the history of the IPL.

Jake Fraser-McGurk: 50 lakhs

Fraser-McGurk was a late inclusion for David Warner, and under Ponting’s final season, he helped establish the young Australian as one of the future stars of the IPL. The fearless and destructive opening batter will surely be seen to have higher rates once he enters the mega auction.

Rinku Singh: 55 lakhs

The KKR batter had his best of seasons playing for the side in 2023. Since then he has been picked at such a minimal price; however, this time with the likes of big guns retained by the defending champions, Rinku might have the chance of getting his prices high in the mega auction.

Riyan Parag: 3.80 crore

Not very less for just a 20-year-old, the Assam batter has had a year full of fortunes from domestic to IPL season. Parag was the Royals’ best batter alongside skipper Samson, and in case in the hunt to retain players like Buttler and Samson they sent Parag to the auction, he might have higher chances to increase his price.

Prabhsimran Singh: 60 lakhs

Singh has been a constant performer in the most underperforming side of the IPL, the Punjab Kings. Singh cannot be retained in the season, and he would love to get into the auction as any team would seem to be interested in the rising talent that would boost his rates from 60 lakhs to some staggering amount.

Shashank Singh: 20 lakhs

Shashank was PBKS’ most successful batter, as he played several innings that led to miraculous victories for the lagging side. A great bunch of shots and an intense strike rate during the death overs make him an ideal choice for teams. Not again a 20 lakh if he is sent to the auction, as the aggressive finisher would be much in demand, especially with such options lacking in Indian players.

NK Reddy: 20 lakhs

SRH’s late inclusion was one of their key players; the Indian all-rounder who has performed for India A was called for the Zimbabwe tour but missed it due to sustained injuries. Reddy replaced the likes of senior players Mayank, Rahul Tripathi, and Aiden Markram. And having proved his caliber, he will be on the radar for franchises as the probable Indian all-rounder options.

Tushar Deshpande 20 lakhs

CSK’s highest wicket-taker has been one of those young talents under veteran keeper Dhoni behind the stumps. With promising domestic seasons for Mumbai and IPL greatness for Chennai Super Kings, he is likely to be one of the Indian bowlers who will remain in high demand.

Tilak Verma: 1.74 Crores

Mumbai Indians’ 2nd highest run scorer, only behind Rohit, is the most promising player who has often been thought of to find a place in the Indian team. The left-handed Andhra batter can be handed a big sum to be included in the mega auction of IPL 2025. He is to see a significant increase even if Mumbai looks to restore his services through the RTM.

IND vs SL: The World T20 champions Team India are on their tour of Sri Lanka. These two teams will face each other three T20Is and three ODIs. The tour will begin on July 27, and all games will be held at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium. This series is very important for both teams, as they are looking to build a team for the future.

Both sides have new captains, which will make this series very good. India announced a strong squad for the IND vs SL series and players who were part of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 for India. On the other hand, the Sri Lankan Cricket Board announced a 16-member squad on Monday. But just a couple of days ahead of the start of the first IND vs SL game, the hosts suffered a massive blow.

Charith Asalanka has been given the responsibility to lead the hosts after Wanindu Hasaranga stepped down from the captaincy. But the Sri Lankan team suffered a major blow as ace pacer Dusmantha Chameera has been ruled out of the IND vs SL series. The 32-year-old suffered an injury at the last moment.

As a result, he has been ruled out of the series. The Sri Lankan Cricket Board (SLC) confirmed that news on Wednesday. However, there is no replacement that has been announced yet. Chameera has been suffering from injuries since 2022. He has played continuously and has been suffering various injuries.

His last match was on July 9 against the Jaffna Kings. Earlier, he joined the KOlkata Knight Riders as a replacement for Gus Atkinson. He was also part of Sri Lanka’s team for the T20 World Cup 2024 but didn’t’ play a game. And now he suffered another injury.

Meanwhile, it will be a new challenge as Sri Lanka had a horrible T20 World Cup 2024. They couldn’t go past the group stage. As a result, Hasaranga and head coach Chris Silverwood both stepped down from their positions. The hosts have mainly picked up players for the IND vs SL series who did well in the Lanka Premier League 2024.

PCB relies on the ICC to convince the BCCI of India’s participation in the Champions Trophy

0

The Pakistan Cricket Board has been in the hunt to host the Champions Trophy since 2021, as the grant for the same was provided by the ICC a year later, in 2022, when Ramiz Raja served as the PCB chief.

Recently, in the ICC meeting held in Colombo, which took insight over several concerns, one of them being the Champions Trophy to be held in Pakistan next year. The ICC approved of PCB’s provided budget for the Champions Trophy, though concerns remain about India’s chances in the cup.

There have been serious concerns over whether India will travel to the neighboring rival nation for the ICC Champions Trophy. After the T20 World Cup triumph, posts on X and press statements from Jay Shah as well as skipper Rohit Sharma indicated that they find no concern in traveling to Pakistan. However, this created a severe stir in social media as fans raised concerns over player safety if team India traveled to Pakistan.

BCCI have also not nodded their heads in favor of the decision of the ICC or PCB. With player safety and several controversies between the two nations in the past, the BCCI is also in the middle of a tremendous dilemma.

ICC, in their approval of the budget, also left certain areas for a supplementary increase if India’s matches are to be held outside of Pakistan in other venues. However, raising concerns for the PCB is that if BCCI does not approve of India’s participation in the Champions Trophy, then it is likely that cricket boards like the ECB and Cricket Australia might also refrain from doing so.

Now, as a cricket board, the PCB has done all it had to as the host of a major tournament, from providing a schedule and also the budget to the ICC. They have also confirmed that their government would aid India’s safety, as they have kept all of the matches of India in the stadium of Karachi, even the matches if India makes it to the semis or the finals.

However, India, like the Asia Cup 2023, might participate in the Champions Trophy and play their games in hybrid conditions, just like they did while playing in Sri Lanka for the Asia Cup.

However, the PCB under Chief Mohsin Naqvi has now left the role of convincing the BCCI to participate over to the ICC. Neither the chief nor any other official was known to have had a formal word with either Jay Shah or any other BCCI official; as it was reported, all talks are made cordially.

With PCB having resolved all their concerns, now the ball is in ICC’s court, as they are to convince the BCCI and Jay Shah to send their team for a Pakistan-hosted Champions Trophy, with chances remaining that they would rely only on BCCi agreeing to another hybrid setup for participation.

5 big-budget foreign players who might face a significant drop in their price in the IPL 2025 mega auction

0

The IPL 2025’s mega auction will be another significant occasion in the history of the Indian Premier League. One of the world’s biggest T20 leagues is known for its grandeur and enduring brilliance, as it has provided a platform for several young players to seek international careers, being inspired by playing alongside veterans.

IPL is famous for another thing, which is its intense financial battles between franchises. Often the most exciting part of the mega auction lists the number of players who are exciting investments to be made for the franchises’ future.

This article focuses on the top 5 players of foreign origin who were bought at prices that cannot even be imagined. There is a high chance that these players will see a significant drop in their prizes.

5 big signings among overseas players in 2024 who might see drop in prizes this year in the mega auction

Mitchel Starc

Undoubtedly the most expensive player in the history of IPL. Earning over 24.75 crores in the auction of 2024, the Kolkata Knight Riders’ historical pick won them the IPL with significant performances in the knockout games. However, despite his efforts, he is not long to be an investment of that much status.

An insane pick of nearly 25 crores seems unlikely for even a pacer of Starc’s merit. Starc earned such a big amount but will be released before the auction for sure and might not even get picked if he does not play convincingly well in the Champions Trophy.

Pat Cummins

The World Cup-winning skipper of Australia, Cummins, was picked into the IPL by SRH owner Kavya Maran for a whopping amount of 20.50 crores. He was brought in not only as a bowler but also with the sights of a great skipper.

Cummins took command of a glorious team with many standout players and led them from the front to an IPL final, though they faced defeat to KKR. Cummins was also their best bowler behind Natarajan and also served whenever in need of a batting role.

Cummins might not be retained at such a whopping price, yet the Sunrisers might look to use their Match Retention cards for the Aussie quick.

Cameron Green

Green was another surprise pick first at a whopping 17.5 crores over two seasons for both Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers later in 2024. The big Australian all-rounder performed exceptionally well for the Indians; however, he was a big flop for the Challengers.

Green was not a wise pick, as he failed to meet the demands, and his retention does not seem likely. Even if the Challengers look to see their future in the big Aussie all-rounder, they might look to acquire him at quite a lower price.

ALSO READ: 5 veteran players who might not be retained by their franchise in IPL 2025

Sam Curran

The Punjab Kings might be parting ways with Shikhar Dhawan, and Curran can be their replacement skipper if their team is not much reshaped. However, 18.5 crores is way too much for the English all-rounder. Curran, who was majorly thought in both departments, was seen underperforming with both the bat and ball.

A few essential innings with the bat and a few performances with the ball as well make him a crucial player in the mega auction; however, he will surely see a drop in rates and craze for the overseas all-rounder.

Daryl Mitchell

New Zealand’s star boy in the World Cup 2023 earned him a very high status in the IPL 2024 mini-auction, with CSK acquiring the wrong investment in years, at 14 crores. Mitchell scored less than 320 runs in 13 games played by him for the men in yellow shirts.

The Gaikwad-led side does not stand the chance of retaining their flop from 2024; however, there are likely no chances that even the Kiwi batter will be bought in by any franchise after his least chances of recovery of form from the disastrous T20 World Cup campaign in the USA. So high chances are that Mitchell might go down from being one of the biggest signings last year to an unsold player in the very next edition.
