The five-match T20 series between Zimbabwe and India has come to an end, and the visitors won the series 4-1. It started with Zimbabwe winning the first game, but after that, the Men in Bkue didn’t look back and won four consecutive matches comprehensively. Shubman Gill led the team well and won his first series as captain. India tried a lot of new faces in the series.

Some did well, while others couldn’t perform as expected. The Men in Blue will now fly to Sri Lanka for three ODIs and three T20Is. The tour will start on July 27 with a three-match T20 series. Some of the top performers in the recent series will be rewarded with a place in the IND vs SL series. But some might never get another chance. In the absence of senior bowlers, Bumrah and Shami this will be the best chance for the Indian team to access their third pace bowling option. There is severe competition for the spot, as T20 World Cup ace Arshdeep Singh stands in a queue alongside Avesh and Khaleel both under-19 teammates, who have had promising domestic seasons for India, before making their way into international cricket.

Gambhir might also look to fancy his chances on bowlers like Mukesh Kumar and KKR pacer Harshit Rana, as both these bowlers can also bring in the quality that India need for their upcoming big games in the Champions Trophy and later the CWC 2027.

IND vs SL: The BCCI had earlier announced on the 11th of this month that India’s tour of Sri Lanka will commence on the 26th of July. However, they recently took to their X handle and confirmed a revised schedule under which the tour will instead start a day later, on July 27th.

India will now start their T20Is against the Sri Lankan side on July 27 as they play their first three matches of the shortest format of the game at Pallekele. They later move to Colombo on the 31st, as they will play their three ODIs in the capital city.

Recently, the BCCI replaced the World Cup-winning coach of the Indian side, Rahul Dravid, after the end of his extended tenure. World Cup-winning veteran Gautam Gambhir has been appointed to the role, and this will be his first series with the Men in Blue.

The Men in Blue are yet to announce a squad for their upcoming series against Sri Lanka. Though it is much anticipated that veterans Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and World Cup hero Jasprit Bumrah might not be seen in the blue jersey.

Though there hasn’t been any official statement made on it, and just like in the Asia Cup 2023, the PCB doesn’t have much choice but to agree on hosting India’s matches in Dubai or Sri Lanka. But what if it won’t happen. Then, what will be the cause.

Firstly, if India withdraw from the Champions Trophy 2025, Sri Lanka will replace them in the tournament on the basis of the rankings. They finished 9th in the ODI World Cup 2023. Notably, India have not travelled to Pakistan since 2008, and the upcoming Champions Trophy 2025 will be the first ICC event solely hosted by Pakistan.

Hence, India’s participation is very important in terms of revenue and broadcasting rights as well.
