3 Youngsters who might not get another chance with Team India after failing in Zimbabwe T20Is

0

The five-match T20 series between Zimbabwe and India has come to an end, and the visitors won the series 4-1. It started with Zimbabwe winning the first game, but after that, the Men in Bkue didn’t look back and won four consecutive matches comprehensively. Shubman Gill led the team well and won his first series as captain. India tried a lot of new faces in the series.

Some did well, while others couldn’t perform as expected. The Men in Blue will now fly to Sri Lanka for three ODIs and three T20Is. The tour will start on July 27 with a three-match T20 series. Some of the top performers in the recent series will be rewarded with a place in the IND vs SL series. But some might never get another chance. In this article, we will talk about three youngsters who might not get another chance in the team.

Three Indian players who might not get another chance for India in T20Is

3. Sai Sudharsan

Sai Sudharsan has played a couple of ODIs for India already, but he made his T20I debut in the second IND vs ZIM game. He didn’t get a chance to bat and was then replaced in the third game. India already have four openers: Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ruturaj Gaikwad, and Abhishek Sharma; then Rishabh Pant and Suryakumar Yadav will be back, which will make it difficult for Sudharsan to get another game for the team in T20Is.

2. Tushar Deshpande

Tushar Deshpande India

The Mumbai pacer Tushar Deshpande made his debut in the fourth T20I and took one wicket on his debut. Then he took another wicket in the fifth game. He bowled six overs, gave away 56 runs at an economy rate of 9.33, and took two wickets in two matches. Mukesh Kumar, Avesh Khan, and Khaleel Ahmed bowled better than him. With Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh, and Mohammed Siraj returning, it looks difficult for Deshpande to get a chance.

1. Riyan Parag

The 24-year-old all-rounder came into the team with some good domestic and IPL form under his belt. But he couldn’t capitalise it with either bat or ball. He played three games, batted in two innings, and scored only 24 runs. He only bowled one over in the series. With Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, and Shivam Dube already in the mix, it looks difficult for Riyan Parag to retain his place in the Indian team.

IND vs SL: With the Champions Trophy in sight, what changes would new coach Gambhir look to make in India’s ODI squad from the upcoming tour

IND vs SL: The Champions trophy is back and since 2018, this will be played again in 2024 for the first time. With speculations over India’s participation, new coach Gambhir would look to be ready with his side, in case they proceed to play their first ICC tournament under him in Pakistan.

Though BCCI secretary, Jay Shah and T20 World Cup winning skipper have often indicated India’s positive participation in the games. Jay Shah proclaimed that India will be led by Rohit in the upcoming Champions Trophy as well.

As of now, Gambhir is assigned his first major tour to Sri Lanka with the men in blue and this will be his only ODI series in the sub-continent, as later in February next year India will be touring England for the same. So Gambhir might look to reinforce his squad to get over the flaws that led to India’s loss in the finals of the World Cup in 2023, despite their dream 10-match unbeaten run.

An Opener alongside skipper Rohit Sharma

When India went all attack in the last 50-over World Cup on their home grounds, the only player who seemed to be struggling with both form and intent was the skipper’s opening partner, Shubman Gill.

Gill has often been criticised for his lack of intent and lack of the spirit of the game, as he is often seen playing some of his own game irrespective of what the team needs from him. Now with Gambhir having several options in young Yashasvi Jaiswal and potent successor of the veterans Ruturaj Gaikwad, Gill’s position might look threatened.

After Shreyas Iyer’s stunning CWC campaign – Should he make a return

Shreyas Iyer, the KKR skipper has been the best in the format for India. As he has been the only batter from India who featured in ICC’s ODI team of the year for 2022, and he continued his form into 2023 as well.

However, after his breathtaking stance in the Cricket World Cup 2023, he was dropped from BCCI’s annual contract which took all by surprise. Gautam Gambhir who is well aware of his calibre might be baking him to make a comeback for India.

After Pant’s return – Who is at no.5 – Pant or Rahul

Rishabh Pant was seen playing for the Men in Blue at no.4, while his absence was taken over by former Capitals teammate, Shreyas Iyer. With Pant’s return and KL Rahul’s unstoppable form at no.5 for India, this will be a tough choice for Gambhir.

Rahul has improved his skills as a wicket-keeper; hence, Pant cannot exceed him in anything. Still, Pant might look to feature for India, even if it means alternate games for Iyer and Pant if speculations hold about Rahul being India’s stand-in skipper.

Arshdeep, Avesh and Khaleel contest for India’s third-pace bowling option

In the absence of senior bowlers, Bumrah and Shami this will be the best chance for the Indian team to access their third pace bowling option. There is severe competition for the spot, as T20 World Cup ace Arshdeep Singh stands in a queue alongside Avesh and Khaleel both under-19 teammates, who have had promising domestic seasons for India, before making their way into international cricket.

Gambhir might also look to fancy his chances on bowlers like Mukesh Kumar and KKR pacer Harshit Rana, as both these bowlers can also bring in the quality that India need for their upcoming big games in the Champions Trophy and later the CWC 2027.

IND vs ZIM: Jaiswal sets a new record in international cricket in the ongoing 5th T20I

0

IND vs ZIM: India has already won a comfortable series against Zimbabwe after the Men in Blue lagged in the first game of the series. Under new skipper Shubman Gill, India faced a major loss in the series opener, which startled the cricketing world.

However, the Men in Blue came back strongly, with Abhishek Sharma scoring a splendid ton in just his second international appearance. A breathtaking ton in the second match of the series, and later a wicket in the series, took him into the record books.

India sealed the series with a 3-1 lead over the hosts, where skipper Gill batted well for his 50 alongside young Jaiswal’s brilliant 93*, which provided India with a stunning 10-wicket victory.

Later, in their very next outing, in the last T20I of the series, Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal came into bat with his skipper. Jaiswal hit Zimbabwe skipper Raza for a huge six from his full toss, which he thumbed over deep mid-wicket.

Raza’s first delivery was called a no-ball, as Jaiswal capitalized on the free-hit, as he went all boom boom with two sixes in a single legal delivery. With this, Jaiswal hit the record books, as he became the first player in cricket history to score 13 runs on a single legal delivery.

Though Raza came back strongly as he struck in the same over, India soon seemed struggling, as Jaiswal was followed by the skipper and young Abhishek at the score of 14. India, however, didn’t stop to stumble and ended their innings at 167.

IND vs SL: 5 new players who can retain their spot for T20Is in Gambhir’s India squad for the Sri Lanka tour

IND vs SL: Gautam Gambhir’s first assignment with the India side will be on the upcoming tour of Sri Lanka. After India’s victory in the T20 World Cup, veterans Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma retired from the shortest format of international T20s.

This would be the bigger concern for Gambhir as he looks to replace the two veterans in the format. Indian skipper Rohit Sharma might be replaced ideally by Yashasvi Jaiswal, who has shown quite the intent as was possessed by the veteran batter.

Other than the two players, several of the stars who starred in the t20 World Cup, including Hardik Pandya, Rishabh Pant, and Suryakumar Yadav, might look to make a comeback in the T20I series against Sri Lanka. Gambhir might give chances to some players who have recently been inspiring in their outings on the Zimbabwe tour.

Top 5 new Players who can retain their place in India squad for Sri Lanka T20Is

Abhishek Sharma

The left-handed batter has been a star in the format after an ace performance in the IPL; now he has been a star for the Men in Blue. Recently, Abhishek has entered the record books by scoring a ton and taking a wicket in the same series.

Gambhir will look to have a player of his caliber in the team, as there remains a bright prospect in the player. After an impressive opening to his career on the Zimbabwe tour, he will be seen among the favorites to be picked by the India side for the tour of the Lankan islands.

Riyan Parag

The IPL star, who has risen to excellence after facing severe criticism, made a standout performance to find his place in the Indian side. However, he was not among the scorers, as he never got to bat except for the match where Gill’s XI faced a humiliating loss to the underdogs.

Though Parag didn’t see much coming, Gambhir would look to hand him another chance in the upcoming series and probably hand him some more game time.

Ruturaj Gaikwad

Gaikwad is probably India’s next most subtle player, as he can be the best prospect at No. 3, who can fill in the big shoes of Virat Kohli. Though not easy yet, the CSK star is the probable option for even Gambhir to replace the veteran, as there are some chances that Gambhir might not land in Gill very regularly in T20s. The rising superstar has often been criticized for his lack of intent, which is a primary need of the format, rather than averaging over 50 on all occasions.

Avesh Khan

The pacer from the Royals side was one of the finest implementors with the old ball in the death overs. Khan replaced veteran bowler Bumrah’s role in the side, and with him being rested for the upcoming series, Khan might find a place in Gambhir’s squad not only in the shortest format but also in the ODI format.

Khan can be an ideal wicket-taking option with both the new and the old ball, and if he continues to do well under the new coach, he can be India’s ideal solution to their third pacer requirement.

Khaleel Ahmed

Khaleel has now been an experienced campaigner, as he has played several seasons in the IPL. Though the left-armer made a start to his international career long back under Kohli, he was brought back into the side as India is in the hunt for a third optional pacer, and it will be great if he is a left-handed pacer.

Ahmed can also be a part of Gambhir’s 15-man squad, as India lacks the natural abilities of a left-handed pacer. Alongside Arshdeep, he can be another star in the format and might find himself progressing under Gambhir.

3 Key Player battles to watch out for in IND vs ZIM 5th T20

0

IND vs ZIM: Team India have won the ongoing IND vs ZIM T20I series with one more game left to play. They have an unassailable 3-1 lead in the series, and the final game is scheduled to take place Sunday at Harare Sports Club. India have shown great form in the series apart from the first game and will look to end the series with another win.

India thrashed Zimbabwe in the fourth game and won by 10 wickets while chasing 152 runs. The bowlers did well, and then both openers played well. So India have a chance to try out some players in the final match, as it is the dead rubber of the game. In this article, we will talk about three key player battles in the IND vs ZIM final T20Is.

3 Key Battles to Watch Out for in IND vs ZIM 5th T20

1. Yashasvi Jaiswal vs Sikandar Raza

3 Key Player battles to watch out for in IND vs ZIM 5th T20
Yashasvi Jaiswal IND vs ZIM

Yashasvi Jaiswal smashed a 27-ball fifth in the fourth IND vs ZIM T20 and went on to score an unbeaten 93 runs off 53 balls, with 13 fours and two sixes. He won the Man of the Match award for his blistering half-century. If he doesn’t get out, he will take India to victory. Jaiswal smashed every Zimbabwe bowler but looked cautious against Sikandar Raza. The Zimbabwe captain has bowled smartly against him and dismissed Jaiswal in the fourth IND vs ZIM game as well.

2. Blessing Muzarbani vs Shubman Gill

3 Key Player battles to watch out for in IND vs ZIM 5th T20
Shubman Gill IND vs ZIM

The Indian captain Shubman Gill has been in fine form and is the leading scorer in the series. He is coming off two consecutive half-centuries and has made 66 and an unbeaten 58 in the last two innings. Gill will look to end the series with another good inning. He has played well against all of Zimbabwe’s bowlers except Blessings Muzarabani. The tall pacer has bowled well in the series and troubled Gill. The Indian captain has only scored 38 runs off 35 balls against him at a strike rate of 108.56 and got out twice already.

3. Sikandar Raza vs Washington Sundar

The Zimbabwe captain has scored the most runs for the hosts in this series. He played a good innings in the last game as well. With his experience, he is a very crucial player and will have an impact in the coming IND vs ZIM game. If he gets set, he can add crucial runs in the middle. That’s why it’s important to get him out. Washington Sundar can be one bowler who can trouble him. Sikandar is good against spinners, but Sundar bowls with a different pace and a tight line, which can be hard to hit. Hence, this will be an important battle in the final IND vs ZIM game.

IND vs SL: The BCCI has announced a revised schedule for India’s tour of Sri Lanka

0

IND vs SL: The BCCI had earlier announced on the 11th of this month that India’s tour of Sri Lanka will commence on the 26th of July. However, they recently took to their X handle and confirmed a revised schedule under which the tour will instead start a day later, on July 27th.

India will now start their T20Is against the Sri Lankan side on July 27 as they play their first three matches of the shortest format of the game at Pallekele. They later move to Colombo on the 31st, as they will play their three ODIs in the capital city.

Recently, the BCCI replaced the World Cup-winning coach of the Indian side, Rahul Dravid, after the end of his extended tenure. World Cup-winning veteran Gautam Gambhir has been appointed to the role, and this will be his first series with the Men in Blue.

The Men in Blue are yet to announce a squad for their upcoming series against Sri Lanka. Though it is much anticipated that veterans Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and World Cup hero Jasprit Bumrah might not be seen in the blue jersey.

As their replacements, young skipper Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul, who might be called back, might lead the Indian side in the T20I and ODI series, respectively.

The Lankans also, after their humiliating exit at the T20 World Cup in the United States, faced several changes as Chris Silverwood stepped down from the position of coach and veteran Sanath Jayasuriya was appointed to the position. Just like Gambhir, this will be his first outing with the team as well.

The fixture is as follows:

  • First T20I: July 27th, Pallekele International Cricket Stadium
  • Second T20I: July 28th, Pallekele International Cricket Stadium
  • Third T20I: July 30th, Pallekele International Cricket Stadium
  • First ODI: August 2nd, R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium
  • Second ODI: August 4th, R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium
  • Third ODI: August 7th, R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium

IND vs SL: 3 Indian Youngsters who might get ODI call for Sri Lanka series after doing well in Zimbabwe T20Is

0

IND vs SL: The Indian cricket team are currently on tour in Zimbabwe for a five-match T20I series. It is a second-string team that has all new faces. The ongoing series is very important for India, as this series will decide which will be the upcoming stars for India. Notably, after this, India will play three T20Is and three ODIs on the Sri Lanka tour.

The tour will start on July 26. So, the squad for the Sri Lanka tour will be picked next week, so it will be a great chance for the players to make the ODI squad as well. There are a few players who have done well in the Zimbabwe T20Is and might be rewarded with their performances. In this article, we will talk about three Indian players who might get a chance in Sri Lankan ODIs after doing well against Zimbabwe.

IND vs SL: 3 Indian who might play in Sri Lanka ODIs after doing well in Zimbabwe T20Is

3. Ravi Bishnoi

Ravi Bishnoi can be a good option for the ODI series. The pitches in Sri Lanka are very helpful for the spinners, and Bishnoi, with his variations, can be very effective in Sri Lanka. Bishnoi has been pretty good so far in the series and has taken wickets. He is a very good operator and can also bowl in the powerplay. He has played one ODI for India only but has played 28 T20Is for India. Bishnoi can be a good backup spinner for the IND vs SL ODI series.

2. Avesh Khan

Avesh Khan IND vs SL

Some media reports confirmed that India might give the rest to Jasprit Bumrah, which will leave India with only a few options to choose from. That’s where India can look for the other young bowlers. Avesh Khan has been pretty good in the ongoing series. He can share the new ball and bowl in the middle overs. Avesh has taken six wickets in three matches and is looking promising as well.

1. Ruturaj Gaikwad

Ruturaj Gaikwad IND vs SL
IND vs SL Ruturaj Gaikwad

Ruturaj Gaikwad has been at his best in the shorter format. He has scored the most runs in the series against Zimbabwe. He has shown great form in the last couple of years for India. Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli might be rested for the coming IND vs SL ODI series. That’s where India will look for a top-order batter, and Gaikwad can be a perfect choice. He is an excellent player of spin, which will be required in Sri Lanka.

Revealed: What will happen if India don’t travel to Pakistan for Champions Trophy 2025? How will it affect World Cricket

Champions Trophy 2025: The focus of all the cricket world has been shifted to the 50-over format now as the next big ICC event is all set to get underway in 6-7 months from now on. It is the Champions Trophy 2025, and Pakistan, who are the official hosts of the tournament, will also defend their title against seven other teams. A total of 8 teams will take part in the competition, which will run between February 19 and March 9.

Three stadiums have been shortlisted to host the matches in Pakistan, and all the teams have been given the green signal to participate in the Champions Trophy 2025 except India. There have been tensions between the two countries, and they don’t play a bilateral series against each other. Last year, we saw in the Asia Cup 2023 when India didn’t travel to Pakistan and Sri Lanka hosted their matches. The Indian Cricket Board is expecting something similar.

Champions Trophy 2025: Sri Lanka will replace India if they don’t travel to Pakistan for competition

Champions Trophy 2025 Sri Lanka will replace India if they dont travel to Pakistan for competition
Champions Trophy 2025

Without a doubt, India are the most followed cricket team in the world, which is why the International Cricket Council (ICC) has to do some difficult work to either convince the BCCI or shift India’s matches to somewhere else. However, the BCCI is looking to play their matches either in Dubai or Sri Lanka.

Though there hasn’t been any official statement made on it, and just like in the Asia Cup 2023, the PCB doesn’t have much choice but to agree on hosting India’s matches in Dubai or Sri Lanka. But what if it won’t happen. Then, what will be the cause.

Firstly, if India withdraw from the Champions Trophy 2025, Sri Lanka will replace them in the tournament on the basis of the rankings. They finished 9th in the ODI World Cup 2023. Notably, India have not travelled to Pakistan since 2008, and the upcoming Champions Trophy 2025 will be the first ICC event solely hosted by Pakistan.

Hence, India’s participation is very important in terms of revenue and broadcasting rights as well. If India won’t play in the Champions Trophy 2025, then both the ICC and PCB will suffer a massive loss. Hence, that’s why these two entities don’t want to take risks, and we might see something change in plans for India. So far, as per the proposed schedule, India will face Pakistan, New Zealand, and Bangladesh in Lahore.

For 21 years, he has thundered down the pitch, defying age with his relentless fitness at 41. Specializing in a single format, he remained a relevant and formidable force, outwitting batters with his strategic mind games.

With a quiet dignity, he performed his craft, shunning the limelight and letting his prowess speak for itself. Fiercely competitive yet outwardly gracious, he concluded his illustrious career with a staggering 704 Test wickets. A fast bowler like no other, James Michael Anderson – thank you for gracing Test cricket with your masterful swing and seam.
