In what proved to be a shocking announcement, Indian Cricket Team’s premier batter Virat Kohli announced his retirement from T20 International Cricket after guiding the Men in Blue to their second T20 World Cup trophy against South Africa in Barbados.

He made this announcement in the post match presentation of the Men’s T20 World Cup Final 2024 and this decision of the 35 year old has stunned all the Cricket fans across the world. Virat’s departure from T20 Internationals at such an important moment just goes on to show the kind of influence he has had in the sport.

The former Indian skipper is regarded as one of the best batters in Modern Day Cricket and his stats in the shortest format of the game just go on to show what kind of a legendary career he has had in T20 Cricket.

In 125 games, Kohli has scored 4,188 runs at an excellent strike rate of 137.04 and a really good average of 48.69 which includes 38 half centuries, the highest by any active player and one century as well. He is the second-highest run getter in the shortest format of the game, just behind his teammate Rohit Sharma who also announced his retirement along with Kohli from T20i Cricket after winning in the final against the South Africans.

In the post match presentation of the final, where Kohli was also declared as the man of the match said,” This was my final T20 International match for the Indian Cricket Team. I would have announced my retirement even if we would have lost the final against the South Africans. It’s time for the next group of talented youngsters to take the Indian Cricket Team forward in T20 Internationals,” Kohli said.

With King Kohli’s retirement from T20 Cricket, many fans are wondering which youngsters will replace them in the Indian Team and we are going to provide the information regarding the same as in this article we will take a look at three potential players who might replace King Kohli in the Indian Cricket Team.

Three Players who might replace Virat Kohli in India’s T20 International squad:

3. Ruturaj Gaikwad

Ruturaj Gaikwad, the skipper of five time IPL champions Chennai Super Kings, is a strong contender to replace King Kohli in India’s T20 International squad. The 27 year old won the Orange Cap in the 2021 season of the Indian Premier League, scoring 635 runs in 16 matches with the help of four fifties and one hundred. He scored these runs at a good strike rate of 136.26.

Ruturaj has also performed well in International Cricket for the Men in Blue as he has already managed to get 500 runs under his belt in 19 encounters with a really good strike rate of 140.01. He has so far managed to score three half centuries and one century with a best score of 123* against Australia.

He knows how to play well under pressure and would be really keen to replace King Kohli in India’s T20 International squad.

2. Rajat Patidar

Rajat Patidar, hailing from the city of Indore of Madhya Pradesh, is a highly talented right handed batter who plays for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the IPL. In 27 IPL games, the 31 year old has already managed to amass 799 runs at a strike rate of 158.8 and he has an average of 34.7. In the eliminator game of IPL 2022 between LSG and RCB, Patidar played an unbelievable unbeaten knock of 112* runs in just 54 balls and single-handedly helped his team qualify for the second qualifier that year.

That knock helped him to become the first uncapped-player to score a century in the Playoffs of the Indian Premier League. Notably, he brought up his century in 49 deliveries and that tied him up with Wicketkeeper batsman Wriddhiman Saha for the joint-fastest hundred in the history of IPL playoffs.

He is a pretty reliable batter at number three and knows how to smack bit sixes against the spinners so his attacking brand of Cricket might just give him the edge over the others.

1. Shubman Gill

Shubman Gill, the Prince of Indian Cricket and the captain of Gujarat Titans is regarded as the next big thing in Indian Cricket. The 24 year old has had a bright start to his T20 International career as he has already amassed 335 runs in 14 games with an impressive strike rate of 147.57. So far, he has brought up one fifty and a century as well with a personal best score of 126 runs.

His batting style is similar to Virat as both of them prefer to take their own sweet time to settle at the crease and then aggress according to the needs of the situation. He won the Orange Cap in IPL 2023 where he scored 890 runs that year and became the second highest run scorer in a single IPL season. Having crossed the 3000 runs mark in the cash rich T20 league, Gill has proven his potential and has what it takes to replace Virat Kohli in the Indian Cricket Team.

3 Players who can replace Rohit Sharma as India’s next T20I captain

0

Rohit Sharma led Team India to the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, and they lifted the trophy after 17 years. It was India’s first ICC title since 2013. It was a dream-come-true moment for the players, management, and fans, who waited for it for a long time. But after that, India’s seniro trio, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ravindra Jadeja, announced their T20I retirements.

It was the end of an era because these three have been part of the team for a decade and a half. India need to grind hard to find the right replacement for these three in a shorter format. But before that, they have to find the captain. With Rohit no longer playing in T20Is, India need a stable captain who is available for T20I assignments. So we will talk here about three ideal candidates who can replace Rohit Sharma as T20I captain.

3. Rishabh Pant

Three Players who are ideal replacements for Rohit Sharma as T20 captain

Before his car accident, Rishabh Pant was a potential candidate for India’s captaincy in T20Is. He even led India in a series against South Africa in 2022, which ended in a draw. Generally, we have seen some great wicketkeepers become good captains because of their smart brains, and Pant can be one of them. He is still young and a regular member of the team. With the captaincy responsibility, he can improve his game even more and will be one of the contenders.

2. Suryakumar Kumar

Three Players who are ideal replacements for Rohit Sharma as T20I captain

Generally, the best player on the team gets the responsibility of leading the team. That’s where we see Suryakumar Yadav ticking all the boxes. With Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli not available any more, a lot of batting responsibility depends on Suryakumar’s shoulders. He has been a match-winner for India in T20Is and can be a good option. He has led the team against Australia and South Africa and won both series. So with his ability in T20Is, India can look up to him after Rohit Sharma.

1. Hardik Pandya

Well, it won’t be a surprise if India give the captaincy to Hardik Pandya. He has been India’s vice captain with Rohit Sharma and has done brilliantly with his all-round skills. Under Hardik, India have played a few series and done well. He is likely to be India’s next white-ball captain. He doesn’t play red-ball cricket because it’s easy for him to concentrate. Jasprit Bumraqh was a good option, but as an all-format player, he can’t play every series. That’s why Hardik is a good option.

Ravindra Jadeja has announced his T20I retirement. After Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, he has now decided to put curtains on his T20I career, and after India lifted the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 trophy, beating South Africa in the final. It was an incredible career for Sir Ravindra Jadeja, who has been an asset in all three departments.

Jadeja has always given his best in every department, and it will be very tough to replace him. The next T20 World Cup is scheduled to take place in India in 2026, so India need someone who can replace him in the team because, in Indian conditions, Jadeja is very dangerous with the ball. So here we will talk about three players who can replace Ravindra Jadeja in the squad.

3. Shahbaz Ahmed

India need someone who can add value in all three departments, and there are some players who showcased their skills in the recent IPL. One name that came out was Shahbaz Ahmed, who played for Sunrisers Hyderabad and did pretty well. He had a pretty decent IPL 2024. Shahbaz played 16 matches for the team and scored 215 runs, batting at No. 6 or 7 with an average of 24 and also taking seven wickets. If India can invest in him, he can be a big match-winner.

2. Rahul Tewatia

Three Players who can replace Ravindra Jadeja in T20I international
3 players who are ideal replacements for Ravindra Jadeja in T20Is 16

Another name who has been knocking at the doors of the Indian team is Rahul Tewatia. He is known as “the Iceman” for his cool and calm approach while finishing the games. The southpaw is a batting all-rounder who has a knack for picking up wickets. He can play the role of designated finisher for Team India, and if given proper time, he can evolve into a potential decent spin option and can replace Ravindra Jadeja.

1. Washington Sundar

Three Players who can replace Ravindra Jadeja in T20I internationals 1
3 players who are ideal replacements for Ravindra Jadeja in T20Is 17

One name that has been part of the team for a long time now is Washington Sundar. He is excellent in all three departments and is a proven customer at the international level. But with India already having a number of senior spinners, he couldn’t make a place in the team. But with Ravindra Jadeja retiring now, he might get an edge ahead of the other candidates because of his genuine all-round ability. Sundar can play as a proper batter and is an excellent fielder. What gives him an edge, that he is an off-spinner, and India don’t have an off-spinner apart from Ravi Ashwin.

Rohit Sharma’s stats and achievements after T20I retirement

0

The Indian Cricket Team on Saturday successfully defeated Aiden Markram’s South Africa in the all-important Final of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 by a small margin of seven runs and became just the third team after England and West Indies to lift the T20 World Cup Trophy for the second time since the tournament’s inaugural edition in 2007.

This was the Men in Blue’s second T20 World Cup triumph since 2007 and all fans were really happy and busy celebrating India’s win. However, the celebrations were cut short as the senior duo of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli announced their retirement from the shortest format of the game after helping their side lift their second T20 World Cup trophy.

In the post-match presentation, Indian team captain Rohit Sharma made the announcement of his retirement.

“This was the T20 International match of my career for the Indian Cricket Team. No better moment than this to bid farewell to T20i Cricket. I have enjoyed and loved each and every moment of my T20 International career. I made my International debut in this format and I wanted to end it on a good note by winning the T20 World Cup trophy.

“I wanted to win this trophy badly. It’s very hard for me to put this title victory in words. I was really desperate to win this trophy as the captain of the Indian Cricket Team and I am happy that we crossed the line in the end,” Rohit said during the post-match presentation.

Sharma exits from the shortest format of the game as the highest run getter – 4,231 runs in 159 games and even holds the record of scoring the highest number of centuries (five) by a single player. He has lifted the T20 World Cup trophy twice in career: the inaugural 2007 one as player under the leadership of MS Dhoni and now as a skipper in 2024.

The Mumbai based Cricketer began his International Career as a player in T20 Internationals and ended his career in the format as a title winning captain. The 37 year old is regarded as one of the best batters in the world and he is well known for introducing the Cricket world to the extremely special front foot pull shot which Rohit plays at will.

The pull shot is played on the back foot, but Sharma introduced a new-version of the shot by playing it on the front foot and not towards the usual square leg and third man regions but towards the mid-wicket region.

While Rohit has managed to score five classy T20 International centuries in his career, the Indian skipper played one of the most important and clutch knocks of his career in the Super eight encounter of the 2024 T20 World Cup against 2021 winners Australia. The opener played an incredible knock of 92 runs in just 41 deliveries which consisted of eight huge sixes and seven good looking fours. He also holds the record of smashing 200 huge sixes in T20i Cricket, a record which may be unbreakable for the foreseeable future.

Rohit Sharma announced his retirement from T20 International cricket after guiding India to a historic T20 World Cup title in 2024. Following India’s thrilling seven-run victory over South Africa in the final, Sharma decided it was the perfect moment to step back from the shortest format of the game.

Here are some key reasons for his decision:

    1. Achieving a Career Milestone: Sharma’s primary motivation was the satisfaction of winning the T20 World Cup, a title he had long desired. Securing this victory provided a fitting conclusion to his T20I career.
    2. Focus on Other Formats: By retiring from T20Is, Sharma can now concentrate on Test and ODI cricket, where he continues to play a crucial role for India. This decision allows him to manage his workload and prolong his career in these formats.
    3. Passing the Torch: Like Virat Kohli, who also retired from T20Is around the same time, Sharma believes it’s time for the next generation of players to step up and take on leadership roles in T20 cricket. This transition ensures a fresh perspective and new energy in the team.
