Watch: Rahul Dravid encouraged Virat Kohli after his poor performance against England in the semi-final 2 match

The T20 World Cup 2024 Semi-final-2 match was played between India and England at the Providence Stadium in Guyana. During the match, a clip surfaced that is becoming increasingly viral on social media. Indian team coach Rahul Dravid was seen consoling former Indian team captain Virat Kohli after he was out in the semi-final match.

In an attempt to take advantage of the powerplay against England, Kohli was clean bowled by Reece Topley. After which, he looked angry, and Kohli sat dejectedly in the dressing room. Coach Dravid went to him and was seen consoling him.

This season, King Kohli’s bat has remained silent throughout the tournament in the T20 World Cup 2024. The 35-year-old player has scored at an average of just 10.71 in the 7 matches played in the entire tournament. All the fans expected that Kohli would definitely score on a big stage like the semi-finals but this was not possible.

This is the first time in the history of T20 World Cup that Kohli has been out on a low score in a knockout match. His stature becomes even higher in knockout matches. But the special thing about all these brilliant innings is that all of them have come at his favorite order of number three. This is the first time that Virat is opening in an ICC tournament.

The Indian team has confirmed its berth in the final by defeating England by 68 runs in the semi-final-2 match. On the other hand, South Africa has also made it to the final by defeating Afghanistan in the semi-final match. The final match between the two teams will be played on Saturday at Kensington Oval in Barbados. Both the teams have not lost a single match in the tournament so far.

3 Indian Players who might announce T20I retirement after T20 World Cup 2024

Team India have reached the final of the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2024. They have been undefeated in the tournament so far and will be looking to win the title. The Indian team have not won an ICC event since 2013, and they have lost a number of multiple knockout games during this period.

Meanwhile, India will face England in the semifinal on Thursday at Providence Stadium, Guyana, and if they win this match, they will play the third final overall. India are favourites to win the game against England, but this English team beat India in the semi-final of the 2022 edition. Meanwhile, this tournament could be the last tournament for some of the Indian players. Here we talk about three Indian players who might retire from T20Is after the T20 World Cup 2024.

3 Indian Players who might retire after the T20 World Cup 2024

3. Yuzvendra Chahal

The veteran leg-spinner is currently the leading wicket-taker for India in the shorter format of the game. He has taken 96 wickets in 80 T20Is at an economy rate of 8.19. He is part of the Indian squad for the T20 World Cup 2024, but he hasn’t played a game yet, and it looks like he might not get a game. Chahal played his last T20I for India in January 2023, around 16 months ago. He wasn’t selected for the coming series against Zimbabwe. So it looks like the Indian management is looking past him, and with not much opportunity, he might hang his boots in T20 internationals.

2. Virat Kohli

3 Indian Players who might retire after the T20 World Cup 2024
Virat Kohli: T20 World Cup 2024

The former Indian captain Virat Kohli is without a doubt the best batter in modern-day cricket. His numbers speak for themselves across formats. He is one of the leading scorers in T20Is. But his current form in the T20 World Cup 2024 has been below par. He has only scored 65 runs in six innings, including two ducks. If somehow he fails to deliver in knockouts, there are big chances that Virat will end his T20I career and focus on the other two formats.

1. Rohit Sharma

3 Indian Players who can retire after the T20 World Cup 2024
Rohit Sharma

The Indian captain is at the end of his career. Rohit Sharma, who is currently 37 years old, is still very good in this format, but after the T20 World Cup 2024, he might focus on ODIs and Tests. Rohit will be 39-40 during the 2026 T20 World Cup, so it might be difficult for him to play in all three formats. So despite his ability, we might see him retiring from T20Is. Already, he plays very few bilateral T20I series, so he might retire.

IND vs ENG semifinal 2 of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 is just a few hours away from now. The match between the two heavyweights of the game will take place on Thursday (27th June) at the Providence Stadium in Guyana.

The excitement for the IND vs ENG game is building up and both the teams have been magnificent so far in the tournament. The two teams have done their preparations right and it’s time for the showdown. The winner will take on Aiden Markram-led South Africa in the final.

While the excitement for the IND vs ENG game is high, the rain threat is also looming over the game. The weather forecast for the game isn’t great and there are high chances for the rain. However, ICC has kept additional time for the game and it can be extended for a while.

With rain around the corner, there have been various speculations about when will be the cut-off time for the game. As per the reports in ESPNCricinfo, it is learned that no overs will be lost till 12:10 AM (IST) and if the conditions don’t permit us to play till this then only after that we will start losing overs.

The reports also claimed that the start of a 10-over match should happen at 1.44 am IST for the Semi-Final between India vs England. Therefore there are high chances that we might have a game and both the teams would be keen to play as well.

However, in case of a complete whitewash, India will move to the final. This is because they have more points than England. They also finished at the top of the points table. On the other hand, the defending champions finished second in their group stage.

India vs England Dream11 Prediction: Rohit Sharma’s Team India will take on Jos Buttler’s England in the epic battle in the second semi-final of the ongoing ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024. The India vs England fixture is set to be held at the Providence Stadium in Guyana on June 27th, starting at 8:00 PM IST.

Preview

It has all started to boil down to just a few more matches before get our next T20 World Cup champion. South Africa is already through to the Final after decimating Afghanistan in Trinidad, earlier today. To join the Proteas, one of India or England will qualify for the finals, today.

Notably, there’s been some confusion regarding the playing conditions in the semi-finals. Earlier the fixture was slated to be held in Georgetown, but later it was changed to Guyana, for undisclosed reasons. Moreover, there’s no reserve day for the India vs England semi-final, unlike the first semi-final.

However, the ICC has provided 250 minutes of extra time to complete the game in case rain plays spoilsport, which will likely be the case. The weather doesn’t seem to be kind for the contest as the forecast shows a 76 per cent chance of rain in Guyana.

Talking about the two sides now – the Men in Blue have continued their sensational run in the tournament. The Indians are undefeated so far and they would like to remain undefeated as a defeat would mean another disappointment and an extension in the waiting period for their next ICC title.

England, though, haven’t had a defeatless run, but, they are certainly the top sides to beat in the tournament. The Jos Buttler-led side is the defending champions, having won the title back in 2022.

Interestingly, England conquered India’s challenge in the 2022 T20 World Cup semi-final and entered the final. Now it will be the perfect setting for Rohit Sharma and his boys to avenge the disappointment they faced back in 2022.

The Providence Stadium in Guyana offers one of the slowest surfaces used in the T20 World Cup 2024. There is all the help for the bowlers, especially spinners, and the batters have struggled to get going. The peak run rate is recorded at 7.6 in the death overs during the course of the World Cup, which indicates how slow the surface is. The top wicket-takers at this venue are the spinners and this is the same ground where Afghanistan restricted New Zealand to a meagre total of 75 runs.

England, on the other hand, lost their second match, while their first game was washed out in the group stage. They made a pretty good recovery and qualified for the SUPER Eights with 2 wins and a draw. However, they got an upsetting welcome from South Africa in the first game of the Super 8. Nevertheless, they managed to win the other two matches and they are playing India in the Semifinal 2 of ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

England are playing in the semifinals but we have yet to see a complete team performance from them. There have been moments when England’s batting did a decent job but bowling disappointed and vice versa. They would definitely be aiming for a complete team performance in the eliminator round.

Historically, the pitch has favored spinners, with teams batting first winning three out of the five matches at this venue during this World Cup. However, this advantage is marginal.

IND vs ENG Playing Conditions for Semi-Final 2, Rain Chances | India to Play Final if Rain Spoils India vs England Semi-Final T20 World Cup 2024

India vs England Semi-Final: The ongoing ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 has been amidst constant criticism for its scheduling, which has hampered as many as seven fixtures so far, including the 5 complete wash-outs. Now as we head to the all-important semi-final fixtures of the T20 World Cup 2024, concerns have risen as rain gods once again pose a serious threat to both the matches in the Caribbean. There is a whopping 76 per cent chance of showers during the India vs England fixture, the first semi-final between South Africa and Afghanistan is also a constant danger.

Notably, Rohit Sharma-led Team India takes on Jos Buttler’s England at the Providence Stadium in Guyana for the Semi-final 2 on June 27. India sealed a semi-final berth following their dominating run in the group stage and Super8s. England, on the other hand, got a beating against South Africa during the Super8s on their way to the semis of the T20 World Cup 2024.

The IND vs ENG fixture is being seen as a rematch of the 2022 T20 World Cup semi-final, held in Australia. Buttler’s England convincingly handed a 10-wicket defeat to India at the Adelaide Oval to qualify for the Finals and eventually won it against Pakistan to lift their maiden T20 World Cup title in 2022.

This time around, the setting is perfect for the Men in Blue to avenge the humiliating loss and hand a similar result to England in Guyana.

The contest is set to begin at 8:00 PM IST, which is a day game as per the local time zone on June 27.

The forecast isn’t encouraging for both teams as they brace themselves to go head-to-head in the crucial knock-out stage. The possibility of a full-fledged game is minimal as there will be multiple breaks due to the rain.

Accuweather.com shows a 76 per cent chance of rain on the match day between India and England. The rain threats at the start of the game are relatively less, but there is a possibility of heavy thunderstorms as the match progresses.

Explained What will happen if SA vs AFG semi-final 1 gets washed out What’s the rule for rain in a semi-final

Unfortunately, no reserve day is in place for the India vs England clash on June 27. Unlike the semi-final 1, which has a dedicated reserve day, the India vs England has to be completed on the same day as per the schedule.

In case of rain interruptions, the fixture is allotted an additional 250 minutes of time to complete the game. The officials can use it at their discretion as per the requirement.

If no play is possible even after the exhaustion of the additional 250 minutes of time and the fixture results in a no-result, the team finishing higher in the Super 8 points table will proceed to the Finals.

In this case, it will be Rohit Sharma-led Team India that will be through to the finals against Jos Buttler’s England.

In case of a tie, the Super Over will decide the winner of the contest. In case, Super Over couldn’t be held due to any unavoidable circumstances, the team finishing higher in the points table will progress.

Australian hard hitting opening batter Travis Head’s phenomenal knock of 76 runs in 43 deliveries in the super eight clash against India has helped him move up in the latest updated ICC Men’s T20 International player rankings as the Southpaw has successfully dethroned Indian Cricket Team’s Suryakumar Yadav at the top of the rankings to become the new world’s number T20I batter.

Head, who made a jump of four spots in the rankings, is now sitting at the top with 844 rating points next to his name, while SKY has dropped to the second position with 842 rating points.

England’s wicket-keeping batsman Phil Salt (816 rating points), Pakistan skipper Babar Azam (755 rating points), and wicket-keeper Mohammad Rizwan (746 rating points) have also dropped by one spot each to the third, fourth and fifth spots in the rankings respectively.

Men in Blue batter Suryakumar Yadav has been the world’s number one T20 international batter since December of last year, having also made the position his own in the past. However, his tenure is not going to last any more thanks to some outstanding batting displays in the ongoing Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 by in-form Aussie batter Teavis Head,” the International Cricket Council (ICC) said in a press release.

“He ( Travis Head) has been crowned as the new number-one ranked T20 International batter, having performed exceptionally well for Australia as an opener in recent years.

“Travis saved his best for the last in the ongoing Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, playing a really good knock of 76 runs which almost helped his side get over the line but in the end, Rohit Sharma and is men ended up winning the game”.

England leggie Adil Rashid continues to lead the Men’s T20i bowling rankings, while Afghanistan leg spinner and captain Rashid Khan has jumped to the second position in the rankings following his Super 8 heroics with the ball in the ongoing Men’s T20 World Cup 2024. Australia’s fast bowler Josh Hazlewood has also risen by three positions to the fourth position, behind Sri Lankan captain Wanindu Hasaranga.
