But that’s now the case in the SA vs AFG semi-final. The first semifinal will start at 8:30 p.m. local time. If the match is not completed on the scheduled day, then the first semifinal has a reserve day. That means the game will take place on Thursday. Notably, 190 minutes are given to complete the game on reserve day. If both teams can’t play 20 overs, then a minimum of 10 overs are needed to get the result.

Who will qualify for semi-final if the rain swips away both semi-finals?

Well, it looks a bit impossible that the rain can spoil both semi-finals. But you can guarantee the weather in West Indies during this time. The Men in Blue became the third side to successfully qualify for the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup after South Africa and England. One final spot is still left, and the trio of Afghanistan, Australia, and Bangladesh are battling against each other for the fourth and final semi-final spot. The Rashid Khan-led team has the easiest path to secure that semi-final spot, as they just need to win against Bangladesh in order to qualify.

South Africa and India are still unbeaten in the tournament, while England lost their group stage match against Ashes rivals Australia.

Batting first, the Indians managed to put up an excellent total of 205-5 in their quota of 20 overs thanks to the brilliant efforts of skipper Rohit Sharma (92 runs in 41-balls), Suryakumar Yadav (31 runs in 16-balls) and Shivam Dube (28 runs in-22 balls).

In reply, the Kangaroos got off to a horrible start as opener David Warner gave his wicket away in the very first over of the Aussie inning. Following Warner’s dismissal, the duo of captain Mitchell Marsh (37 runs in 28 deliveries) and Travis Head (76 runs in 43 deliveries) got involved in an 81 run partnership for the second wicket and helped their team to get back into the game.

However, Marsh had to go back to the pavilion as Axar Patel took a blinder of a catch off the bowling of Kuldeep Yadav. Following the dismissal of captain Mitchell Marsh, hard hitting all-rounder Glenn Maxwell arrived at the crease and played a good hand of 20 runs in 12 deliveries but he too fell prey to the outstanding googly of Kuldeep Yadav.

The 2021 winners kept on losing wickets at regular intervals but Travis Head kept his side in the chase till the end. But, star Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah removed the southpaw in the 17th over and him getting out meant that the Australian’s small hope of winning the match vanished completely as well.

The Mitchell Marsh-led team eventually ended the game with a score of 181-7 and lost the match by 24 runs. Fast bowler Arshdeep Singh managed to pick up three decisive wickets for his team and Kuldeep Yadav got two scalps next to his name as well. Both Australian stars were asked to pick their all-time T20I XI. Both had to pick different players in their XI. Hence, Starc picked three Indian players in his XI, while Stoinis picked one.

Starting with Starc, the left-arm pacer picked Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, and Zaheer Khan as three Indian picks in his T20I. He picked Sunil Narine, Kieron Pooran from the West Indies and Jacques Kallis and Dale Styen from South Africa. Interestingly, Starc also picked his wife, Alyssa Healy, as an opener, who has experience with six women’s T20 World Cups. Apart from that, Mitchell Starc picked Marcus Stoinis, Andrew Symonds, AB de Villiers in their team.

The latest report in Navbharat Times has claimed that Gautam Gambhir has kept five conditions to accept the BCCI’s proposal for the head coach of the team. One of the conditions that he has kept is he wants full control of the team without any interference from the board.

The Saturday night in St. Vincent’s Arnos Vale Stadium is going to go down as the best one in the history of Afghanistan Cricket as the Rashid Khan-led team recorded one of their most important and famous victory against 2021 winners Australia for the first time ever in international cricket.

This match against the Afghans was not expected to be an easy win for the Aussies because of the slow nature of Arnos Vale’s surface. But the Asian side scripted a huge upset by defeating the Mitchell Marsh-led team, which before this game had finished on the victorious side in all of their matches.

Afghanistan’s victory over the Kangaroos has opened up the semi-final race in Group 1 of the Super 8, and the Rashid Khan-led team are alive in the race of qualifying for the semi-finals of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024. This is really good news for the Afghan fans but not for the Aussie fans as they the 2021 champions will have to win at any cost in their upcoming game against India on Monday.

Rohit Sharma and his men are sitting comfortably at the top of the overall standings with them securing easy wins over Asian rivals Afghanistan (by a margin of 47 runs) and Bangladesh (by a margin of 50 runs).  They have a really healthy Net Run Rate (NRR) of +2.425 as well and they just need to secure a win or avoid a big margin defeat against the Aussies in their upcoming match in order to secure their qualification for the semi-finals.

The Australins are ranked second in Group one with two points next to their name in two encounters with a net run rate (NRR) of +0.223, and they are followed by the Rashid Khan-led Afghanistan, who also have the same number of points as the Aussies in the same number of encounters, but their net run rate (NRR) of -0.650 is worse than the Australians. Lastly, Bangladesh are sitting at the bottom of Group 1 with zero points in two encounters and are officially eliminated from the race for the semi-finals.

The remaining Group One encounters are India vs Australia and Afghanistan vs Bangladesh, and both of these matches will be played on 24th and 25th June respectively.

If the Australians lose against the Indian Cricket Team, then Rashid Khan and his men will just have to secure a win against Bangladesh to secure their semi-final qualification. However, if the Aussies end up winning against the Men in Blue, then the Afghans will get an idea about the necessary margin they would require to secure a victory against the Najmul Shanto Hossain-led team to go ahead of Australia or India on the basis of net run rate.
