Explained: What will happen if SA vs AFG semi-final 1 gets washed out? What’s the rule for rain in a semi-final

SA vs AFG: The last three games are remaining in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. The first semi-final will see a clash between South Africa and Afghanistan on Wednesday at Brian Lara Stadium in Tarouba, Trinidad. It will be followed by the India vs England semi-final on Thursday. Everything is settled, but a big concern ahead of the SA vs AFG game is the rain. The forecast suggests possible rain at the scheduled time.

It means we might see some rain breaks during the game, but everyone will hope for a complete match. As seen in the tournament so far, there have been a few games that have been washed out, while others have been affected by rain. The rain will be a headache for the knockout matches, but the organisers have done their homework, and there is extra time if it rains.

What will happen if SA vs AFG Clash gets washed out?

Explained What will happen if SA vs AFG semi final 1 gets washed out
SA vs AFG Semi Final Rain Rule

There have been two different rules for the two semi-finals of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. The second semi-final between India and England, which is scheduled to take place on Thursday, will have an extra 260 minutes available to complete the game. As it is a morning match, the wait in case of rain can be done for another 260 minutes after the scheduled time.

But that’s now the case in the SA vs AFG semi-final. The first semifinal will start at 8:30 p.m. local time. If the match is not completed on the scheduled day, then the first semifinal has a reserve day. That means the game will take place on Thursday. Notably, 190 minutes are given to complete the game on reserve day. If both teams can’t play 20 overs, then a minimum of 10 overs are needed to get the result.

Who will qualify for semi-final if the rain swips away both semi-finals?

Well, it looks a bit impossible that the rain can spoil both semi-finals. But you can guarantee the weather in West Indies during this time. So if both semi-finals get washed out, then India and South Africa will qualify for the finals. Both teams finished their respective groups at the top, and on the basis of the Super 8 rankings, these two teams will qualify, and Afghanistan and England will be eliminated.

SA vs AFG: The ICC T20 World Cup 2024 has seen four teams make it through the semi-final. The first semifinal will take place on June 26 (Thursday) at Brian Lara Stadium, Tarouba, Trinidad. This match will be played between South Africa and Afghanistan. South Africa finished Group 2 at the top, while Afghanistan finished Group 1 in second place after beating Australia and Bangladesh.

It will be an epic clash between two teams that are totally different from each other. South Africa are strong in their pace department, while Afghanistan have a spin-heavy bowling attack. That’s what makes this game an important one. These two teams don’t play often, but some of their players played against each other in T20 leagues. So here we will talk about three important player battles in this game.

3 Key Battles to Watch Out for in SA vs AFG Semi-Final 1 Clash

1. Quinton de Kock vs Rashid Khan

Quinton de Kock has been in fine form in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, and he has scored the most runs for South Africa in the tournament. He has scored 199 runs at 28.42 and a strike rate of 148.50 with two half-centuries. He is someone who can take the SA vs AFG game away from the powerplay itself. So Afghanistan will hope that they can get him out early, and who other than captain Rashid Khan is perfect for this. Rashid has enjoyed bowling with De Kock. He has dismissed De Kock three times in T20s, and the batter has a strike rate of 110 against Rashid.

2. Rahmanullah Gurbaz vs Kagiso Rabada

3 Key Player battles to watch out for in SA vs AFG Semi Final 1 Clash
SA vs AFG: Rahmanullah Gurbaz vs Kagiso Rabada

Rahmanullah Gurbaz has been the best batter in the tournament. He has scored 281 runs at an average of 40.14 with three half-centuries. He is the backbone of Afghanistan’s batting unit. If he gets set, the chances of Afganistan winning increase. That’s why South Africa need to remove him early in the SA vs AFG game. That’s where they want their best bowler, Kagiso Rabada, to come into action in this SA vs AFG clash. Rabada has been the leader of the pack for many years now. He is accurate, fast, can swing the ball, and has everything to make an impact. So Gurbaz needs to take Rabada on if he wants to play well for his team.

3. Heinrich Klaasen vs Fazalhaq Farooqi

With Afghanistan have a strong spin attack, the South African batter will have a challenge for sure. But one batter, who is known for smashing spinners, will be in action. Heinrich Klaasen, who is a powerful spin-hitter, hasn’t had enough runs that he would have liked. But with the big matches coming up, he might have a chance to take his team to their first-ever T20 World Cup final. But he needs to do it against the tournament’s leading wicket-taker, Fazalhaq Farooqi. The left-arm pacer is a teammate with Klaasen at Sunrisers Hyderabad. Both have faced each other at nets. Farooqi swings the ball and has a good dipping slower one, which is hard to hit. So he will be looking to dismiss his SRH teammate here.

Rohit Sharma was not on his full flow in this World Cup but he stood right at the time when it mattered. If the Indian team reached 200+ after the dismissal of Virat and Pant for just 15 runs combined, the batting depth is commendable led by the skipper from the front.

IND vs AUS Match Summary

Australia invited India to bat first and had early success after dismissing Virat in the second over of the innings. Rohit took on the primary Australian pacer Starc and others too in the powerplay. India were flying high with the skipper leading from the front and India punched down 205 runs in 20 overs, thanks to the finishing touches by Hardik and Shivam Dube.

Rohit Sharma’s Excellence

Rohit Sharma remained in the headlines as his 92-run innings in just 41 balls at a strike rate of 224 played a key role in the moment that India got throughout the match. He was so close of getting his 6th hundred in the T20Is but Starc nailed a near-perfect Yorker to get rid of Sharma.

T20 World Cup 2024 Super EIGHT Points Table Updated after IND vs AUS: India Qualified for the Semi-Final

T20 World Cup 2024: The Indian Cricket Team, under the leadership of Rohit Sharma, successfully qualified for the semi-finals of the ICC’s T20 World Cup 2024 as they secured a comfortable 24-run victory over arch-rivals Australia in their final Super Eight match at the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium of St Lucia on Monday.

The Men in Blue became the third side to successfully qualify for the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup after South Africa and England. One final spot is still left, and the trio of Afghanistan, Australia, and Bangladesh are battling against each other for the fourth and final semi-final spot. The Rashid Khan-led team has the easiest path to secure that semi-final spot, as they just need to win against Bangladesh in order to qualify.

South Africa and India are still unbeaten in the tournament, while England lost their group stage match against Ashes rivals Australia.

Following the Indian Cricket Team’s win over the Aussies by 24 runs, here’s how the updated points table looks.

IND vs AUS Match Highlights

Batting first, the Indians managed to put up an excellent total of 205-5 in their quota of 20 overs thanks to the brilliant efforts of skipper Rohit Sharma (92 runs in 41-balls), Suryakumar Yadav (31 runs in 16-balls) and Shivam Dube (28 runs in-22 balls).

In reply, the Kangaroos got off to a horrible start as opener David Warner gave his wicket away in the very first over of the Aussie inning. Following Warner’s dismissal, the duo of captain Mitchell Marsh (37 runs in 28 deliveries) and Travis Head (76 runs in 43 deliveries) got involved in an 81 run partnership for the second wicket and helped their team to get back into the game.

However, Marsh had to go back to the pavilion as Axar Patel took a blinder of a catch off the bowling of Kuldeep Yadav. Following the dismissal of captain Mitchell Marsh, hard hitting all-rounder Glenn Maxwell arrived at the crease and played a good hand of 20 runs in 12 deliveries but he too fell prey to the outstanding googly of Kuldeep Yadav.

The 2021 winners kept on losing wickets at regular intervals but Travis Head kept his side in the chase till the end. But, star Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah removed the southpaw in the 17th over and him getting out meant that the Australian’s small hope of winning the match vanished completely as well.

The Mitchell Marsh-led team eventually ended the game with a score of 181-7 and lost the match by 24 runs. Fast bowler Arshdeep Singh managed to pick up three decisive wickets for his team and Kuldeep Yadav got two scalps next to his name as well. The duo of Axar Patel and Jasprit Bumrah picked up a wicket each.

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli to be dropped as Gautam Gambhir sets 5 massive conditions in front of BCCI

0

Former India cricketer Gautam Gambhir is all set to take the coaching role of Team India after the T20 World Cup 2024. The KKR mentor was interviewed by the BCCI’s Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) recently along with WV Raman.

There have been several reports which have suggested that Gautam Gambhir is the front-runner to take the spot. It is learned that things between him and the BCCI have been finalised and his appointment as the head coach of the team remains a formality.

The latest report in Navbharat Times has claimed that Gautam Gambhir has kept five conditions to accept the BCCI’s proposal for the head coach of the team. One of the conditions that he has kept is he wants full control of the team without any interference from the board.

Another condition that Gautam Gambhir has kept is he wants to bring his coaching staff. He has stated that he will be selecting his support staff, including batting, fielding and bowling coaches. But one condition that he has kept has caught the attention of many.

Gautam Gambhir has reportedly stated that if senior players Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Ravindra Jadeja and Mohammad Shami fail to win the Champions Trophy 2025, then the players might be dropped from the side. If they fail to win ICC events then they will have no chance in the side.

Gautam Gambhir wants separate teams for red-ball and white-ball

"Separate teams for Test, ODIs," demands Gautam Gambhir to accept Team India's head coach's offer: Reports

Another condition that Gautam Gambhir has set is he wants separate teams in red-ball cricket and white-ball cricket. The KKR mentor will also be working on the roadmap for the ICC World Cup 2027 as soon as he joins the Indian team.

There is no clarity that Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will be part of the ICC World Cup 2027 or not as Gambhir has categorically stated that he wants to be moved forward from the senior player if they fail to win the ICC events. There are high chance that they might get dropped from red-ball cricket as well if they fail to win the WTC title.

3 Key Player battles to watch out for in IND vs AUS Super 8 Clash

IND vs AUS: Match No. 51 of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 is expected to be a high-voltage thriller because it will involve two of the best teams in the competition. This match will take place between India and Australia at the Darren Sammy National Cricket Stadium in Gros Islet. India have been undefeated so far, while Australia lost their last game against Afghanistan.

This win is crucial for both teams for different reasons. But one thing is clear: this match will produce some thrilling moments because the world’s best teams, which have some of the best all-format players, will be up against each other. There will also be some key match-ups in this game because the players of both teams know each other very well. So here we will talk about the top three player battles to watch out for in the IND vs AUS clash.

3 Key Battles to Watch Out for in IND vs AUS super 8 Clash

1. Virat Kohli vs Pat Cummins

3 Key Player battles to watch out for in IND vs AUS Super 8 Clash
3 Key Player battles to watch out for in IND vs AUS Super 8 Clash

Virat Kohli will be a very big wicket in the IND vs AUS match. Irrespective of this current form, Australia are one opposition that have always brought the best out of Virat Kohli. And it won’t be a surprise if Virat goes on to play a match-winning knock on Monday. But he will be up against Pat Cummins, who has enjoyed this battle. The Australian speedster is in good form and has taken two hat-tricks in the last two games. Cummins has dismissed Virat 8 times in international cricket across formats.

2. Rohit Sharma vs Adam Zampa

Rohit Sharma will be the key batter in the IND vs AUS clash, because if he can give the team a good start, they will be up and running. Rohit has carried on his aggressive approach and can attack the Australian batter. Rohit likes to take on the spinners right away, but his battle against Adam Zampa will be interesting. Zampa will be bowling smartly against him, and Rohit will be targeting him for sure. Zampa has dismissed the Indian captain five times in international cricket.

3. Travis Head vs Jasprit Bumrah

Travis Head has snatched two trophies from the hands of Team India in the last  year. He smashed centuries in the finals of the World Test Championship and the ODI World Cup 2023 and was Player of the Match in both games. He will look to play a similar knock here. But this time, Jasprit Bumrah will be his biggest hurdle. Bumrah is at the top of his game and has not given up runs as well. Bumrah has dismissed Head three times in international cricket, and we might see him do it again.

For Australia, Mitch Marsh, the Australian Captain said “We just need to win, and there’s no better team to do it against.”

Australia were high on confidence and performance right from the start of the competition and they secured five straight wins. But they also faced a defeat against Afghanistan in their last outing which has made their path a bit harsh now as they have to defeat the undefeated Indian Cricket team to lock qualification seats.

India, on the other hand, are in quite comfortable condition right now. They just can not lose this game and they are playing the Semifinal. Even if the rain washes the game away, India will be qualified for the semifinals but a match of this high caliber should take place and India have a lot to prove.

Afghanistan’s qualification scenario for the semi-finals of the ICC’s T20 World Cup 2024

The Saturday night in St. Vincent’s Arnos Vale Stadium is going to go down as the best one in the history of Afghanistan Cricket as the Rashid Khan-led team recorded one of their most important and famous victory against 2021 winners Australia for the first time ever in international cricket.

This match against the Afghans was not expected to be an easy win for the Aussies because of the slow nature of Arnos Vale’s surface. But the Asian side scripted a huge upset by defeating the Mitchell Marsh-led team, which before this game had finished on the victorious side in all of their matches.

Afghanistan’s victory over the Kangaroos has opened up the semi-final race in Group 1 of the Super 8, and the Rashid Khan-led team are alive in the race of qualifying for the semi-finals of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024. This is really good news for the Afghan fans but not for the Aussie fans as they the 2021 champions will have to win at any cost in their upcoming game against India on Monday.

Rohit Sharma and his men are sitting comfortably at the top of the overall standings with them securing easy wins over Asian rivals Afghanistan (by a margin of 47 runs) and Bangladesh (by a margin of 50 runs).  They have a really healthy Net Run Rate (NRR) of +2.425 as well and they just need to secure a win or avoid a big margin defeat against the Aussies in their upcoming match in order to secure their qualification for the semi-finals.

The Australins are ranked second in Group one with two points next to their name in two encounters with a net run rate (NRR) of +0.223, and they are followed by the Rashid Khan-led Afghanistan, who also have the same number of points as the Aussies in the same number of encounters, but their net run rate (NRR) of -0.650 is worse than the Australians. Lastly, Bangladesh are sitting at the bottom of Group 1 with zero points in two encounters and are officially eliminated from the race for the semi-finals.

The remaining Group One encounters are India vs Australia and Afghanistan vs Bangladesh, and both of these matches will be played on 24th and 25th June respectively.

Afghanistan’s qualification scenario

If the Australians lose against the Indian Cricket Team, then Rashid Khan and his men will just have to secure a win against Bangladesh to secure their semi-final qualification. However, if the Aussies end up winning against the Men in Blue, then the Afghans will get an idea about the necessary margin they would require to secure a victory against the Najmul Shanto Hossain-led team to go ahead of Australia or India on the basis of net run rate.
