‘Decision about Pakistan’s captains to be made by coaches & selectors’: Mohsin Naqvi

0

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman, Mohsin Naqvi has given a massive statement regarding the country’s Men’s National Cricket Team’s captain. He stated that the decision regarding the skipper will be taken by the selectors and coaching department.

“I will let the coaching staff and selectors make a decision regarding the captaincy duties of the team,” Mohsin said during Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium construction-project.

According to some news reports, wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Rizwan has become the leading contender for handling the leadership duties of the Green Shirts in all three formats of the game.

“A workshop involving the coaching staff and the selectors will be organised on the 22nd of September and we will be listening to everyone’s feedback and suggestions and accordingly the decision will be taken,” Naqvi added.

“A workshop involving the coaching staff and the selectors will be organised on the 22nd of September and we will be listening to everyone’s feedback and suggestions and accordingly the decision will be taken,” Naqvi added.

“I know that if the team fails to perform well and if they commit mistakes on the field, then it falls on me. If there are any player selection related mistakes or if the coach does something wrong, it will reflect on me,” the 45 year old added

On the other hand, the PCB chairman also gave an official confirmation regarding the venues of the upcoming test series between Pakistan and England after certain news reports stated that one test match will be shifted to either Sri Lanka or the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

“The England test matches will be played in Pakistan and will not get shifted out of our homeland. Rawalpindi’s Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium and Multan’s Multan International Cricket Stadium will be final venues for the three-match series.

“We (PCB) are in constant touch with the England Cricket Board (ECB) and there are no issues related to the venues,” Naqvi said.

IND vs BAN 2024: India Squad For Test Series Announced | Bangladesh Tour of India 2024

IND vs BAN 2024: After a break of a month, Team India are set to bout in an international match, and the Board Of Cricket Council of India (BCCI) have announced the Indian squad for the home test series today.

Bangladesh are set to travel to India for a two-game Test series against India. The first Test is set to commence right from 19th November.

A very good news for the Indian Cricket team and the fans that the “spidey” Rishabh Pant is back in the red ball in the international circuit. Along with him, KL Rahul is also available in the squad after a quite long time due to injuries.

After an extended and challenging rehabilitation, Pant made an impressive return in the IPL, scoring 446 runs in 13 matches, which earned him a spot in India’s successful T20 World Cup campaign. Following this, he played an ODI in Sri Lanka and participated in the opening match of the recently concluded Duleep Trophy.

Bengal pacer Akash Deep secured the position of the third seamer in the squad, joining Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj. Akash, who made his Test debut against England in Ranchi earlier this year, delivered a strong performance for India A in the Duleep Trophy, taking nine wickets, including a five-wicket haul.

While Mukesh Kumar, who has three Test caps, was not selected, India included uncapped left-arm fast bowler Yash Dayal in the 16-man squad. Along with Mukesh, Devdutt Padikkal, Rajat Patidar, and KS Bharat were also omitted after their appearances in the series against England.

In the middle-order, India welcomed the return of KL Rahul, alongside Sarfaraz Khan, who impressed in his debut series against England with three 50-plus scores in six innings. Rahul missed most of India’s last red-ball series against England due to a quadriceps injury.

India has also retained their formidable spin quartet, comprising R Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, and Kuldeep Yadav. Let’s take a look at the Indian squad for IND vs BAN 2024:

India B starts the Duleep Trophy on a strong note: Musheer, Akash Deep, and Mukesh emerge as heroes

The first round of the Duleep Trophy has come to an end, and in the match played at Anantapur, India C secured an early win on Day 3, as it was one of the lowest-scoring games.

Today in the other game at the Chinnaswamy stadium, where India A took on India B, the match was won by India B in a commanding fashion by 76 runs. Both these two matches hold immense importance from the point of view of the selectors, as they will look to manage a team for the Bangladesh home series.

Indian selectors had earlier hinted that it would be at the end of the first round of the Duleep Trophy that they would be announcing a squad against the Bangladesh team, who will visit the Indian subcontinent from the 19th of September.

The India B player Musheer Khan played a historic innings as he went past the likes of great Sachin Tendulkar to break the record for most runs on a Duleep Trophy debut. Musheer took his team from a situation of 94/7 to 292/7 before lunch on Day 2, as he himself scored 181 individual runs.

Musheer, in a hunch to score quick runs, got out to Kuldeep Yadav as he missed on a debut double ton by a whisker. However, he could not follow up that greatly as Musheer was out for a duck in the second inning.

However, who has been the best performer in the match for India A remained their pick of the bowlers, Akash Deep, who struck 9 times in the match, as he had 4 wickets in the first innings and responded back with a 5-fer in the second, as they were restricted to 184.

They posted a target of 275 in front of the India A batters, as the team’s batting unit collapsed again, with Shubman Gill once again having a disappointing dismissal. Pant and Sarfaraz had contributed to India B’s second innings with quickfire innings, as Pant scored a 61 off just 47 balls.

KL Rahul turned the only batter for India B who scored a fifty in either innings combined, as he was dismissed for 57 in the second innings, and India B were all-out for 198. Mukesh Kumar emerged as India B’s best bowler with his 3-fers in either inning.

Mukesh and Akash Deep both have ideal chances of making it to Team India, as the men in blue are in search of a fourth-pace bowling option. Both of these players have turned in for the auditions of the game.

Tewatia, Williamson and Mohit Sharma; These three players GT might release ahead of IPL 2025 Mega-Auction

In the history of the IPL, the Gujarat Titans are one of those teams that left their mark in the Indian Premier League in a very short time. Gujarat Titans, which made its debut in IPL season 2022, won the trophy in its very first season. In IPL 2023, the team led by Hardik Pandya was the runner-up. The 2024 edition was full of ups and downs for the franchise. After the captain, Hardik Pandya, left the team and joined the Mumbai Indians, that team could not perform well as they finished the season (2024) in the eighth position in the points table.

In IPL 2024, Pandya was replaced by Indian team opener Shubman Gill, but he lacked enough captaincy experience, which was directly reflected in the team’s performance. Mohammed Shami’s earlier exclusion from IPL 2024 due to injury was also detrimental for the team. Mohit Sharma, who was one of the leading wicket-takers in IPL 2023, took only 13 wickets in 2024 while star spinner Rashid Khan took only 10 wickets.

Gujarat franchise can make a lot of changes in the mega auction of IPL 2025. Some of these big names like Rahul Tewatia, Kane Williamson and Mohit Sharma may not be retained.

There is an interesting story behind Mohit Sharma playing for Gujarat Titans, earlier Mohit was a Gujarat bowler in 2022, then in 2023 coach Ashish Nehra was impressed with him and included him in the squad. After which Mohit surprised everyone with his performance, he took a total of 27 wickets in 14 matches in the 2023 season and also became the joint second-leading wicket-taker bowler of the tournament.

But the 2024 season was nothing special for Mohit, he played a total of 12 matches in which he got only 13 wickets and his economy was also not very good. He conceded a lot of runs with an economy of around 11. The franchise may not retain him in the 2025 mega auction but will definitely try to buy him back from the mega auction.

Kane Williamson

Kane Williamson

The Gujarat Titans franchise had included Kane Williamson in their team in the IPL 2023 mini auction as Ashish Nehra is looking for stability at number 3 and Williamson will live up to his expectations. But in the very first match of the tournament, the New Zealand captain was ruled out of the tournament due to a knee injury.

In IPL 2024, Kane Williamson got a chance to play only two matches in which he scored only 27 runs. Gujarat management did not give him much chance because their first choice at number 3 was Sai Sudharsan. It is certain that the franchise will not retain Williamson in IPL 2025 because the franchise has better foreign players available than him, whom they have to retain.

Rahul Tewatia

Indian uncapped player Rahul Tewatia plays the role of finisher for Gujarat, but the franchise will not be interested in retaining him in IPL 2025 as his retention will be based on three Indian players like Shubman Gill, Sai Sudharsan and Mohammed Shami.

Five astonishing moments from the Duleep Trophy match at the Chinnaswamy Stadium that are good signs for the Indian team

0

The Duleep Trophy has reached higher limits this time around as the BCCI announced that every international red ball player for India will also have to participate in the domestic red ball season in order to restore their position in the Indian team.

Players with the likes of Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul, Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Dhruv Jurel, Mayank Agarwal, and many more have participated in the Duleep Trophy games. Such players are going to play a part in the Duleep trophy as they might find a place in India’s squad for the long Test schedule.

The Chinnaswamy stadium is hosting the India A vs. India B match, while the other match at Anantpura was comfortably won by India C on day 3.

Let’s have a look at the 5 most breathtaking moments:

Mohammad Shami was seen watching the Duleep Trophy.

Star Indian pacer who has been in rehab for many months now, Mohammad Shami, is in the National Cricket Academy to mark his return from injury. In the meantime, he skips his schedule to the Chinnaswamy stadium as he watches the Duleep Trophy match.

This might be sighted well for the Indian team, as Shami might look to make a comeback to the Indian team soon, as he would be a key factor for India in their upcoming Test schedule vs. New Zealand and then later the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

Musheer Khan’s record-breaking innings

When India B seemed to be in trouble in the first innings struggling due to early loss of wickets, as they were left staggering at 94/7, Sarfaraz Khan’s brother, the 19-year-old Mumbai boy, Musheer Khan, came into bat alongside Navdeep Saini, the no. 9.

Musheer, on his Duleep Trophy debut, scored a stunning hundred on Day 1 as he took his team to a decent total, while later he batted in the second day before he got out for 181 runs in order to score quick runs towards the back end of the innings. This is the highest-ever score made on a Duleep trophy debut by a player.

Rishabh Pant’s handy half-century

Welcome back, Pant, as he bats for his brilliant 50 with his knock in the second inning of the Duleep Trophy, as he almost is back to the red ball after 21 months of absence from the game. Pant scored a battling fifty in the second inning, which came off just 34 balls.

Pant went on to score 61 runs off just 47 balls, alongside Sarfaraz Khan, who also added quick runs. They added valuable runs to the team total that helped them post a total of over 250+ to the opponent side. This can be good signs for the Indian side, as they will find their wk-batter back into the side roaring as ever.

Dhruv Jurel equals the record of MS Dhoni in the Duleep Trophy.

MS Dhoni has set a record in the Duleep Trophy behind the stumps, which he made while playing for East Zone in 2004-05, where he took 7 catches in a single match.

Jurel too achieved the feat against India B, as he completed 7 catches in the match as well and turned out to be one of the most subtle wicket-keeping options in the country, though his batting form has been of concern.

Akash Deep, with nine wickets in the match, has emerged as the highest wicket-taker.

India A team’s ace pacer, Akash Deep, the medium seamer, has emerged as their finest of bowlers. He picked up four wickets in the first inning, despite a strong resilience from Musheer. Then in the second innings, he went for a stunning 5-fer, which made him the finest performer from the India A side.

The bowler has done his job, and now it’s only to India A batters to earn the target for them after India B were bowled out for a minor 184. He can be ideal for India’s fourth pacer role, as the nation has been in the hunt for one, for a long time.

Moeen Ali, 2-times English World Cup winner retires from international cricket

0

Legendary English all-rounder Moeen Ali has finally drawn curtains to his illustrious international career for England. This is now official as the player with two World Cup titles has ended his days for the Three Lions.

Moeen has represented the English side for a decade now since he marked his debut back in 2014 when he was primarily seen as a player of the longest format of the game. Ali was one of England’s frontline spinners after Graeme Swann and Monty Panesar retired internationally from tests.

However, Ali soon introduced himself as a world-class all-rounder and his aggressive nature. He was then brought in by Captain Morgan to the limited-overs cricket, where he emerged as England’s second all-rounder option alongside Ben Stokes.

Ali was a part of England’s World Cup-winning team in 2019, their first ever in the history of cricket. Also, he reversed international retirement alongside Stokes to feature for the three-lions in the T20 World Cup 2022 under skipper Buttler. This was their second T20 World Cup title following the first win under Collingwood.

In a recent interview with the Daily Mail, he admitted that he is 37 years old and also didn’t get picked for the Australia series, to which he explains that he has played much of his game and it’s time for the next generation to go out there and play his game.

Moeen Ali retires internationally with nearly 300 matches across all three formats of the game. He has scored 6678 runs while also picking up 366 wickets. He will be remembered as England’s all-time greatest all-rounder, having scored eight centuries as well.

“People forget the impact you make in games. It might only have been 20 or 30, but it was a crucial 20 or 30. For me, it was about making an impact. I know what I brought to the side, on and off the field. As long as I felt people enjoyed watching me play, whether or not I did well, I was happy with that,” Ali remarked on his role in the England setup.

Moeen has represented several teams globally across several franchise tournaments, as he has played for teams like Royal Challengers Bangalore and the Chennai Super Kings in the IPL. He is also about to make his debut in the CPL after being announced as a replacement in the Guyana Amazon Warriors team.

During his decade-long cricket career, when asked about his most memorable moment, Ali shared his two World Cup-winning moments as well as their Ashes victory.

However, for England, he has individually scored England’s fastest 50 in just 16 deliveries against South Africa in 2022. He also remembers his wonderful Test hat-trick from Oval.

“Winning the Ashes and two World Cups was great, but from an individual point of view, it was my Test hat-trick against South Africa at the Oval to win us the game. And I’m proud to have the fastest T20 50 for England (16 balls vs. South Africa in 2022).”

He said, on recalling his greatest moment

Styris remarked, “At Deccan Charges, I saw this kid had something special,” deeming Rohit Sharma’s greatness

0

The previous Kiwi all-rounder and one of the finest T20 players of his time, Scott Styris, recently in an interview claimed how he saw Rohit Sharma’s potential back in 2008 when he shared the dressing room with the 20-year-old.

“It (the IPL 2008) was my first opportunity to be a teammate and see (and hear of) Rohit Sharma. He was with us at the Deccan Chargers. He was 19 or 20 years old at that time, and I could see then that this kid was something special. I’ve just come back from Sri Lanka, where I commented on India vs. Sri Lanka. I caught up with him there, and he’s still the same guy that he was 16 years ago,”

Styris said to the Cricket journalists

Styris was a part of the Deccan Chargers unit in 2008, the inaugural season when they seemed to be the best team on paper, having the biggest of names. However, even Styris remarked that it was the lack of balance that led to their failure as they ended at the bottom of the table.

It was during his time in 2008 and 2009, the year Deccan Chargers lifted the trophy under Aussie skipper Adam Gilchrist, that both Rohit Sharma and Scott Styris shared a common space. He also shared that Rohit, after all these 16 years, still remains the same, as the two met during his visit to Sri Lanka, where Styris was present as a commentator.

Rohit Sharma was last seen with India in the T20 World Cup trophy in the United States, where he emerged as the World Cup-winning captain for India, which ended their trophy drought for 11 years since the Champions Trophy and also their 13-year World Cup trophy drought.

Rohit was moved to the Mumbai Indians camp in the IPL 2011 auction from the Deccan Chargers, as he emerged to be an immensely successful player and a skipper in the Mumbai camp. He led the Mumbaikars to a 5-time IPL championship, as he became one of the most successful IPL captains.

Rohit’s legacy is truly amazing if seen today, and Styris said he had seen the potential and his brilliance years back when Sharma was just a kid, roughly 20 or 21 years of age. After having announced his retirement from the shortest format of the game, he turned his fortune towards the longest format and is currently eyeing the World Test Championship after India failed to win it twice despite qualifying for the finals.

Rohit will next be seen captaining the Indian side for the Bangladesh tour, followed by the New Zealand home tour. The biggest challenge for him comes with India travelling to the Australian island for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy later in November this year.

AUS vs SCO 3rd T20I: Green’s Allround-Show Helps Australia sweep Scotland on their home

AUS vs SCO 3rd T20I: It is less than 24 hours and Australia have defeated Scotland twice at their home and this was a clean sweep for Australia in the three-match T20I Series.

It was Travis Head in the first T20I, Josh Inglis in the second T20I, and this time it was Cam Green who took his team home comfortably. Australia defeated Scotland by 6 wickets in the third and the last T20I.

Let’s take a look at the match highlights of AUS vs SCO 3rd T20I:

AUS vs SCO 3rd T20I Match Highlights

Australia won the toss and opted to bowl first, with Scotland getting off to a brisk start, accumulating 54 runs during the powerplay despite losing both openers. Brandon McMullen once again stood out with the bat, delivering an array of stylish shots. Scotland’s No. 3 notched up his third fifty against Australia in just four innings, and his second in two days.

However, McMullen received little support from his teammates, mirroring the previous day’s performance. His dismissal—courtesy of a superb catch by Travis Head—marked a turning point for Scotland. The team’s scoring rate plummeted, managing just 17 runs in the final four overs while losing four wickets, leaving them with a total of 149 on the board.

In response, Scotland’s bowlers made an early impact, exploiting swing to dismiss Jake Fraser-McGurk for a duck. Travis Head followed shortly after, leaving Australia at 45/2 at the end of the powerplay. Cam Green and Mitch Marsh stabilized the chase for Australia despite the early setbacks.

Though Marsh’s knock of 31 was unconvincing, ending with him chopping a ball onto his stumps, Green anchored the innings with an unbeaten 62. His all-around performance shone through, complementing his earlier bowling figures of 3/35, which had restricted Scotland.
