India might agree to travel to Lahore for the Champions Trophy 2025: report

0

Pakistan’s Cricket Governing Body, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has received some positive-hints about the Indian Cricket team agreeing to visit Pakistan for ICC’s Champions Trophy 2025 event, the sources told Geo-News.

According to some news reports, the International Cricket Council (ICC) will share the schedule of the Champions Trophy with the other participating Cricket Boards in the final week of June.

The PCB had previously sent the Champions Trophy schedule with the ICC few-weeks ago and the Cricketing Governing-Body decided not to make any changes in the PCB’s schedule after reviewing it carefully and thoroughly.

The 2025 Champions Trophy, hosted by 2017 winners Pakistan, will include the likes of India, England and Australia. Bangladesh, New Zealand, Afghanistan and South Africa will also participate in next year’s mega event.

The final of the tournament and the matches of the Indian Cricket Team will be held in the city of Lahore. Currently, the BCCI have not given an official statement regarding them not agreeing to send the Indian Cricket Team to Pakistan.

Except the Indians, the remaining seven teams have played matches in Pakistan and they are very keen on playing the Champions Trophy in Pakistan as well. If the other participating nations agree to travel to Pakistan for next year’s mega event, then the Men in Blue’s last minute refusal to not travel to their neighbouring country will be really difficult to get accepted.

According to the PCB’s tentative schedule, the matches of the upcoming tournament will be played in the cities of Lahore, Karachi and Rawalpindi between 19th February to 9th March.
The city of Lahore will play host to seven games, including the all-important final.

The opening match of the tournament will be played in the National Stadium of Karachi while one semi-final will be played at the same venue as well. In short, three matches will be played in Karachi. The city of Rawalpindi will play host to five encounters, including the other semi-final.

Notably , next year’s Champions Trophy will mark the return of the tournament after an absence of eight long years. The previous edition of the 50-over tournament was played in 2017 where Pakistan ended up lifting the trophy by defeating the Virat Kohli-led team in the final.

England qualification scenario for the semi-final of T20 World Cup 2024

England Cricket Team has found themselves in the middle of nowhere in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024. They are in the spot of bother after their recent loss to South Africa in the Super 8 stage of the tournament on Friday (21st June).

England started the Super 8 stage of the tournament on a high. They thumped West Indies in their opening game and boosted their NRR. But after that a loss against South Africa has put them in a spot of bother and their qualification for the semi-final looks bleak now.

South Africa registered their second consecutive win in the Super 8 stage of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024. They defeated England by seven runs at the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium in Gros Islet, St Lucia in a Group 2 encounter.

With the kind of performances South Africa has displayed, they made the route difficult for England. The Jos Buttler-led side has just one game left against the United States of America and it will be a decisive game for the defending champions in the T20 World Cup 2024.

For England to qualify they need to beat the United States of America by a comprehensive margin. If they scored 160 runs while batting first then they need to make sure that they beat the opposition by 10 runs. And if they are chasing, they need to win by at least an over to spare.

Here’s England’s qualification scenario:

– Assuming batting first score of 160.

– Beat USA by 10 runs.

– Beat USA by at least an over to spare.

Looking forward to the next one – Jos Butter after the loss against South Africa

England captain Jos Butter opened up about the loss against South Africa in the Super 8 stage. He said that Quinton de Kock’s innings was the difference between the teams. While talking about the defeat, he explained:

“Powerplay. Quinton came in with a lot of intent and we couldn’t quite match that. We pulled it back and were happy to chase that target but his innings were the difference. We came back well with the ball. Brook and Livingstone had a fantastic partnership to get us close and even look like favourites but credit to South Africa for closing out the game.

Valuable. He’s very understanding that you don’t get to face many balls in T20 cricket at that position. He’s hitting the ball well in the nets and backing himself. Looking forward to the next one,” he concluded.

“I am not happy….”- IND Batting Coach hints at possible change in Virat Kohli’s batting position

0

Virat Kohli: Team India have done a commendable job in the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2024. They are one of the three teams that have been undefeated so far in this tournament. India won their first Super 8 match against Afghanistan and will be facing Bangladesh in their next game on Saturday at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, North Sound, Antigua. There are a few things that the team needs to take care of, and Virat Kohli‘s form is the biggest talking point.

The champion batter is going through his worst T20 World Cup tournament. He has scored only 29 runs in four innings at an average of 7.25 with a strike rate of less than 100. Notably, Virat ended the IPL 2024 with the most runs and entered the tournament with good form under his belt. But since he has been asked to open the innigns, he has struggled badly. Though the conditions were hard, one can expect him to deliver in tough conditions.

Virat Kohli‘s form has become a major talking point in the cricket world. Many former cricketers still back him and want him to continue to open the innings. On the other hand, some of them are in favour of him batting in his usual No. 3 position. Yashasvi Jaiswal has been waiting in the wings. So will we see him at No. 3 against Bangladesh, or will he open with Rohit? The Indian batting coach, Vikram Rathour, has discussed Virat’s form and revealed that the management is backing him as the opener.

In the pre-match conference ahead of the IND vs BAN clash, Vikram said, “I am not happy [chuckles]. I would love if he gets going and scores more runs. We’re not thinking on those [playing Kohli at No 3] lines yet. We are happy with the batting order we have. If any change happens, that will be to do with the opposition and conditions we come across.” Virat Kohli is the leading scorer in the T20 World Cup.

But his record has declined a bit in this edition. But we all know that he is a big match player and has won many games for the team. However, the team and management want him to be back in form before the knockouts because the matches will be tough now. And India need an in-form Virat Kohli for the big games like the semi-final and final.

3 Major Challenges for Team India in IND vs BAN Super 8 Clash

IND vs BAN: Team India are ready to face Bangladesh in their next Super 8 fixture. This match will be played on Saturday at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, North Sound, Antigua.

India registered a one-sided win in their first game of the Super 8 against Afghanistan, while Bangladesh are coming off a defeat. India will be feeling confident about beating Bangladesh in this match.

But they can’t take Bangladesh lightly because they are capable of upsetting India in this fixture. There are a few things India need to do right to win this game.

But from Bangladesh’s perspective, they will be coming with an all-out attack in this match. In this article, we will talk about three major challenges that India will face in this IND vs BAN clash on Saturday.

IND vs BAN: 3 Major Hurdles for India while facing Bangladesh in Antigua

1. Change in conditions

Team India played their group matches in the USA, then faced Afghanistan in Barbados. It took them a while to adjust according to the conditions.

Similarly, not many Indian players have played in Antigua before, so it might take them a while to adjust according to the conditions.

On the other hand, Bangladesh played at this venue against Australia, and they are aware of the playing conditions here. So that might give Bangladesh a slight edge in the IND vs BAN clash.

2. Opening Woes

3 Major Challenges for Team India in IND vs BAN Super 8 Clash
Credit: Google

One positive for India so far is that their middle order has done well so far without much support from Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. But that can’t be the case in every game.

Team India want a good opening stand because it won’t happen every time that the middle order performs. But the biggest challenge will be Bangladesh’s new ball attack.

Mustafizur Rahman has good numbers against Rohit and Virat, and Tanzim Shakib is in red-hot form. So these two will be tough to face for the out-of-form opening pair of India.

3. Out of form Lower Middle Order

India need every player to be in form going into the knockouts. However, the current issue is not just with the opening pair but also with the lower middle order.

Shivam Dube, Ravindra Jadeja, and Hardik Pandya are still to make their mark with the bat. That could be a worry.

If openers and Suryakumar Yadav get out, then there are big chances that the Indian team might get out cheaply because India are carrying some out-of-form batters in their playing XI during the IND vs BAN clash.

T20 World Cup 2024: The 46th match of T20 World Cup 2024 was played between Super 8 Group-2 teams United States and West Indies at Kensington Oval in Barbados. In this one-sided match, co-host West Indies defeated host USA by nine wickets and earned two important points in the points table.

Caribbean captain Rovman Powell won the toss and invited the USA to bat first. While batting, Aaron Jones and company were all out for 128 runs in 19.5 overs. This was the USA’s second-lowest score in the tournament. Before this, the team had scored 118 runs in 20 overs against India.

From the United States side, wicketkeeper batsman Andries Gous scored the most runs for his team, he played a brilliant innings of 29 runs in just 16 balls with the help of three fours and a six. Apart from him, Nitish Kumar scored 20, captain Aaron Jones scored 11, Milind Kumar scored 19 and Ali Khan scored 14 runs in six balls with the help of one four and a six.

The West Indies batsmen chased the target of 129 runs in 10.5 overs with the loss of only three wickets. Opener Shai Hope played a brilliant innings of 82 runs with the help of four fours and eight sixes in just 39 balls. Wicketkeeper batsman Nicholas Pooran also led the team to victory by scoring 27 runs in just 12 balls with a strike rate of 225.

With this big margin of victory, West Indies’ chances of Super-4 qualification have increased, as West Indies has the best run rate among the four teams in the entire group. West Indies’ next match is against South Africa on which WI’s qualification will depend. Africa has not lost a single match in the tournament so far.

PAK vs BAN Test: Possible Venues to host Pakistan vs Bangladesh 2-Match Test Series in August | Bangladesh tour of Pakistan 2024

PAK vs BAN: Following Pakistan’s early exit from the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has moved on and has been finalising the venues for the upcoming Bangladesh tour of Pakistan 2024. The complete itinerary of the tour is being discussed among the officials and plans are being worked out.

As per the reports, Pakistan and Bangladesh are set to engage in a two-game Test series in Pakistan. The series is expected to be played in August 2024 in Rawalpindi and Multan. The two-match PAK vs BAN test will be a part of the ICC World Test Championship 2023-25 cycle.

Notably, the most prominent stadiums in Pakistan are undergoing an upgrade to host the prestigious ICC Champions Trophy 2025, which shrinks the overall stadium base for PCB to pick to host the PAK vs BAN test series.

Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium is undergoing some changes and after the completion, Karachi’s National Bank Stadium will also be revamped to accommodate the Champions Trophy needs.

The degradation of the prominent venues across Pakistan leaves PCB with very few options to pick from. As of now, Rawalpindi and Multan have emerged as the top contenders for hosting the Pakistan vs. Bangladesh test series in August.

More details on the same are awaited as the PCB and Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) finalise the tour.

While the Government of India (GOI) has time and again reiterated its stance of not visiting Pakistan for any cricket action, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is hopeful of Team India’s visit to their land for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

A few local reports hinted at some positive developments taking place, which enhance India’s chances of visiting Pakistan.

The draft schedule has been submitted to the ICC by the PCB officials and now it only awaits clearance from the apex cricket board. The details of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 schedule are likely to be revealed to the participating cricket boards very soon.

Notably, Team India’s fixture in the tournament is likely to be held in Lahore, as per the reports. Lahore’s proximity to the border will felicitate the smooth travel of fans, who wish to witness Team India’s contest.

Bangladesh, on the other hand, have not been top-notch as they are yet to dominate over any other team. Bangladesh’s performance is even worse than USA’s in the SUPER 8s when we take man-to-man marking.

The Indian team faces concerns regarding their opening combination. Both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have underperformed in the tournament, with Kohli accumulating only 28 runs in four matches.

T20 World Cup 2024 Points Table after ENG vs SA | South Africa won by 7 Runs | Updated Super 8 Points Table

T20 World Cup 2024 Points Table: Aiden Markram-led South Africa has doubled-down on their winning streak as they bag another win in the T20 World Cup 2024 Super 8. The Proteas, this time, defeated England by 7 runs to bring up their second win of the Super 8 round. Their overall points rise to 4 and they move to the top of the T20 World Cup 2024 Points Table.

ENG vs SA Match Highlights

South Africa were put to bat first at the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium in St Lucia by the English skipper Jos Buttler after winning the flip of the coin. The Proteas managed to put up 163 runs on the board in the loss of 6 wickets in their quota of 20 overs.

Reeza Hendricks and Quinton de Kock provided a blazing start to the innings with a partnership of 86 runs inside 10 overs. De Kock remained the key figure in the partnership as he scored 65 runs in 38 deliveries which included 4 fours and as many sixes. Following the dismissal of the openers, David Miller played a solid 28-ball 43-run knock before getting dismissed.

Despite getting a fantastic start to the innings, South Africa lost its plot midway through the innings with wickets falling continuously. The English bowlers took over control of the innings and didn’t let the Proteas score heavily in spite of a good partnership upfront.

For England, Jofra Archer returned with three wickets, while one wicket each was picked by Moeen Ali and Adil Rashid.

England, meanwhile, couldn’t get a good start to their innings with Phil Salt getting dismissed in the powerplay itself. Soon, Jonny Bairstow and Jos Buttler were also removed by Keshav Maharaj to further put pressure on the Englishmen.

England began losing wickets and they were suddenly four wickets down at a score of 61 runs in 10 overs. However, Harry Brook and Liam Livingstone came to England’s rescue as the two played a 78-run partnership.

As the partnership began to look threatening, seasoned pacer Kagiso Rabada provided a breakthrough, dismissing Livingstone (33 off 17) while Anrich Nortje removed Harry Brook (53 off 37).

Though England managed to streatch the game till the final over, destiny had some other plans as they eventually fell 7 runs short of the required total against South Africa. England could only score 156 runs in the chase of 163 and lost the contest by 7 runs.

IND vs BAN: Sir Vivian Richards Stadium Pitch Report, Playing Conditions Batting or Bowling? Weather Forecast of Antigua | ICC T20 World Cup 2024

IND vs BAN: After a positive start in the SUPER Eights of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, India are all set to lock horns against Bangladesh in the 47th match of the ICC T20 main event. The contest is going to be played at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium at North Sound, Antigua and here we are with the pitch report of Sir Vivian Richards Stadium and Weather forecast of Antigua for IND vs BAN.

India are just flying high in another ICC World Tournament in the league phase. India won all their matches in the group stage of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 except for one which was washed away by rain. After leading Group A in the points table, they joined Group 1 and they sealed their first outing as well against Afghanistan.

In the cold for a long, Surya Kumar Yadav’s bat finally belted a good score against Afghanistan when the team needed him the most, Kuldeep Yadav got a match in the tournament and many more positives for India in the previous match.

India played a big half of their journey so far on a slow wicket. The wicket was as slow as the average first innings score was just 108 in this World Cup. The Sir Vivian Richards Stadium is also known for its slow pitches.

Before the Australia-Bangladesh match on Thursday night, Antigua was known for being one of the lowest-scoring venues in this T20 World Cup. The average first innings score there was under 100, with the winning team in the first innings averaging 122 for five. Despite this, India’s batting coach Vikram Rathour noted that the team had played on pitches with even worse conditions.

The Indian team has consistently maintained their focus despite the varying conditions and ground dimensions across different venues in this World Cup. They are ready to tackle the challenges presented by the Antigua pitch and outfield in their upcoming second Super 8 game against Bangladesh on Saturday.

Below is the pitch report of Sir Vivian Richards Stadium and the Weather forecast of Antigua for IND vs BAN:

Pitch Report of Sir Vivian Richards Stadium

The stadium is one of the few venues that benefits every type of player, whether batter, pacer, or spinner. Historically, Antigua has provided early assistance to pacers with the new ball. Additionally, as the pitch grips the ball, spinners are expected to find favorable conditions throughout both innings.

However, batters will likely find it easier to score once they have gauged the pitch’s behavior during the initial overs of the innings.

IND vs BAN Antigua Weather Report

According to AccuWeather, daytime temperatures are expected to range between 30°C and 36°C. The forecast includes a chance of isolated morning thunderstorms, with a 40% probability of precipitation and a 24% likelihood of thunderstorms. Additionally, dense cloud cover is anticipated throughout the day.

Given these predictions, it is unlikely that the match will proceed without interruptions. Fans hoping for a rain-free game may be disappointed. However, a favorable aspect of Caribbean venues is that rain showers tend to be brief, potentially minimizing delays

“Our Bowlers will…”- BAN Captain Shanto issues warning to India ahead of IND vs BAN T20 World Cup 2024 Super 8 Clash

Team India started the Super 8 stage of the T20 World Cup 2024 with a comprehensive win over Afghanistan on Thursday. This match was played at Kensington Oval, where they registered a 47-run win.

With this, India have collected two important points. But the path to semis will get more difficult from here on. They will be facing Bangladesh in their next Super 8 fixture.

That match will be played on Saturday at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, North Sound, Antigua.

Team India will be preparing for that game and will look to get another win here. But it won’t be an easy game for them, as Bangladesh have troubled them in the past and have come very close to beating them on the big stage.

That’s what Bangladesh’s captain, Najmul Hossain Shanto, also indicated after losing the game against Australia on Thursday.

After the IND vs AFG clash, Bangladesh also took on Australia at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium.

Australia ended up winning the rain-hit game by the DLS method and registered atheir first Super 8 win by 28 runs in T20 World Cup 2024.

Bangladesh struggled to post a good total and managed 140/8 in the first inning. The big names couldn’t do anything, but the captain played a good inning with 41 runs.

Australia were 100/2 in 11.2 overs when the rain came, and they were announced the winner by the DLS method.

In the post-match presentation, Shanto talked about the areas lacking and also spoke about the next game against India on Saturday.

He said, It's very important for the top-order to get runs like we did today; that's a big boost, and hopefully the bowlers will continue their form. Looking for a good show against India in our next match.” Bangladesh will have an edge as they have already played the game at this venue, where they will face India.

Though India are strong favourite to win this game, Bangladesh have players who can turn things around and put India under pressure. This match will be important for Bangladesh, as they can’t afford a defeat here.

A defeat will virtually eliminate them from the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. On the other hand, India can guarantee a place in the semis if they beat Bangladesh in the coming game.

So it will be a crucial match for both teams in the T20 World Cup 2024 Super 8 stage.
