Australia vs India: Sunil Gavaskar comes up with new opening pair for India in the 3rd Test.

Australia vs India 3rd Test: Indian former cricketer Sunil Gavaskar who is known for his unique team selection skills, now feels Shubman Gill to be pushed to the middle order. Gavaskar in the talk show told that he would pick Rohit Sharma and Mayank Agarwal as his opener in the upcoming Sydney Test.

“I would go with Mayank Agarwal. Everyone saw he was not in good touch and doesn’t look good in the previous two games but he is a quality player of red ball/pink ball. I would probably keep him along with Rohit Sharma,” Gavaskar said in the talk show on Sony Sports Network.

Rohit Sharma has completed his 14 days of mandatory isolation and has joined the squad yesterday. Sharma has been fine now and is 100% recovered from his injury.

Shubman Gill was the stand-out player in the previous test game having scored 45 and 35* in his debut game.

Gill should bat at number 5, Gavaskar:

Despite he showed some good skills top the order. I looked in solid touch and scored some good runs for the side. I would rather love to see him bat at number 5 for India. With his batting style and approach, he might not be successful at the opening areas but at U19 level he batted down the order at number 5,” Gavaskar added.

The former cricketer feels that Gill must play in Hanuma Vihari’s place while Rohit Sharma should open with Mayank Agarwal.

Rohit Sharma and Mayank Agarwal opened the innings for India in the Test against South Africa. Both the openers in South Africa series provided a solid start and even scored their double hundreds in the same series.

The third test will begin on 07th January at Sydney Cricket Ground. Right now the series is leveled at 1-1 after India clinched 8 wickets victory at Melbourne.

Australia vs India: Umesh Yadav ruled out, Shardul Thakur likely to replace him

Australia vs India: Umesh Yadav ruled out, Shardul Thakur likely to replace him.

Australia vs India: One more injury concern comes up for India as Umesh Yadav has been ruled out of the remainder of the Australia series due to a calf muscle tear. BCCI on Thursday announced the news of the pacer getting ruled out.

However, the replacement has not been revealed till now. Shardul Thakur is most likely to replace the speedster in the Sydney Test.

According to the sources, the speedster after complaining of pain in his calf has been ruled out and will head home to complete his rehab program. He would not join the squad for the third and fourth tests.

Shardul Thakur to be preferred before Natarajan:

There were talks around that the pace sensation T. Natarajan must be picked ahead of Thakur while this looks baseless right now.

“Some people and pundits have been in talks to bring in T. Natarajan after his brilliant progress in the past few days but we must not forget that the pacer has played only one first-class game for Tamil Nadu. While on the other hand, Shardul Thakur is much more experienced and has been a seasoned domestic red-ball player for Mumbai,” BCCI official.

Thakur was unfortunate to have had an injury-hit debut against West Indies last year. He got injured before bowling a single over. He has been progressing well since then, and there are full chances that he might replace Umesh Yadav in the squad.”

The final call will be in hands of head coach Ravi Shastri, bowling coach Bharath Arun and skipper Ajinkya Rahane.

Thakur has featured in 62 first class games and has picked 206 scalps to prove his worth. Apart from the bowling department, Shardul can bat down the order. He even has a 6 first-class 50 runs score.

Earlier in the limited-over leg, he showed that he can bat too down to order.

New Zealand pacer Neil Wagner ruled out of the second test due to a fractured toe

New Zealand pacer Neil Wagner ruled out of the second test due to a fractured toe.

New Zealand vs Pakistan: The Kiwi pacer Neil Wagner has been ruled out of the second test against Pakistan due to fractured tow. The first game hero, Wagner bowled most of his overs with a broken toe and played a key role in winning the game.

Neil Wagner who is ranked third in the list of best Test bowlers sustained a toe injury while batting however, he took pain-killers to complete the whole game. He even bowled his over after taking injections which played a crucial role in New Zealand’s win over Pakistan.

Wagner took 4 crucial wickets in the match, including the one of Fawad Alam who looked solid as he completed his century. At a point it looked like the match will go on to draw, however, Neil Wagner’s brilliance with bowling took the match from Pakistan’s hand and avoided a draw.

Neil will need five or six weeks to recover:

The injections he was getting were wearing off each time so he was getting less and less (pain-free) time and we can’t have him going through that again for this Test match,” coach Gary Stead said as the team arrived in Christchurch ahead of Sunday’s second Test.

We all know what he can bring to the team, Everyone knows he plays with his heart and he just put up how hard he is. He has been valuable for New Zealand cricket over the years and we’ll surely miss him.”

“Right now for us, the most important thing is to act sensibly about the situation and not go with the flow. Neil probably needs a couple of weeks to recover from the fractures. Five to six weeks will work for him.”

The New Zealand’s coach Gary Stead did not talk much about the replacement but it seems he would be considering a like-for-like replacement for Neil Wagner. Another pacer will be considered before the all-rounder Daryl Mitchell, the 12th man who took the field when Wagner was getting pain-killers.
