Australia vs India: David Warner’s participation still doubtful for the third test says, Justin Langer

Australia vs India: David Warner’s participation still doubtful for the third test says, Justin Langer.

David Warner injury: Australian star opening batsman David Warner’s participation in the third test remains doubtful as he fails to recover from injury. Coach Justin Langer on Sunday said Warner is still having some issues with his groin injury. David Warner was ruled out of the second Boxing Day Test Match after he failed to recover from the injury that he picked in the second ODI against India. The star opener has made noticeable progress as he came to bat but agile movements are still a concern.

There is no one more professional and he is doing everything possible. The management saw him batting last day, he came to bat again this afternoon at MCG, so in terms of batting he is flying, he is killing it. But the problem remains when comes to agile movements, he’s still having some issues with his groin and we know how dynamic he is,” Langer told Ricky Ponting.

His running between the wickets, his movements all the time, so he’s getting closer and we’re hopeful he will come good, he’s certainly hoping he’ll come good, but time will tell. We’ve still got a few more days to the next Test match,” he added.

The third test between India and Australia will begin on January 7 at Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG).

No partnerships are the biggest disappointment, Justin Langer:

Langer feels Australia needs to build some more crucial partnerships against India to put them under pressure. Just like Ajinkya Rahane and Ravindra Jadeja did last day.

A bit like the opening test game, just our partnerships,” Langer said when asked about his biggest disappointment. “We are not able to set up the games up to our limits- if you look at our partnerships in the first game in the first test innings and then yesterday, we certainly need to get a lot better now.

“Australia had some good partnerships previous game and this game too. We have one 50 runs stand in the first test and 86 runs stand yesterday. Once you go on to 86 runs you should convert it to 150 or more. Because that’s how the game will proceed and you have to set up the game. So we weren’t able to do that and to me, partnerships as much as anything,” he added.

Australia vs India: Rahane has been able to do something special says, Ponting.

Australia vs India 2nd Test: Former Australian skipper Ricky Ponting praises stand-in skipper of India, Ajinkya Rahane for his supreme ton against a quality bowling unit. Ajinkya Rahane slammed his 12th Test ton on the Second Day of the Boxing Day Test against Australia. Rahane’s innings of unbeaten 104 put the visitors in the driving seat in the Test game.

With his 12th Ton, Rahane also become the only second skipper to score a test century at Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). He is now also the second Indian cricketer to score multiple test tons at the same venue. Previously Vinod Mankad held the record.

Ponting in talks with cricket.com.au praises Rahane for his brilliant leadership role.

Rahane picked up the team says, Ponting:

“I think he’s done a great job to pick up the pieces from Adelaide with this team, lead really well in the field yesterday and you can see he’s playing like a captain now as well.

He wants to play that captain’s knock; he wants to get a hundred in Virat’s absence and do the best thing he can to try and drag his country and his team back into this series,” Ponting told cricket.com.au.

Virat will be captain of India as long as he wants to, but if he thinks standing down is going to make him an even better player, then that’s a scary thing for world cricket,” he added.

Ponting compared Rahane with Virat’s captaincy and said Ajinkya has got something special in him.

“I’m not doubting Kohli’s captaincy skills or credentials at all, I’m just saying it’s going to take something special to pick up the pieces and Rahane’s been able to do that so far. I don’t think there’ll be pressure from anywhere else for Kohli to do that but let’s wait and see,” Ponting further said.

At the end of the play of Day 2, India amassed 277 runs with 5 wickets in hand. Rahane unbeaten at 104 while all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja is standing close to his half-century.

India after a humiliating defeat in Adelaide Cricket Ground came up with a better mind-set and restricted Australian’s at 195 runs. On the second Day despite losing four wickets in a mere 36 runs Rahane and Jadeja kept the scoreboard running.

Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2021: The exuberant Mumbai batsman Surya Kumar Yadav to lead Mumbai in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2021. Yadav has been one of the prominent faces in Mumbai domestic season as well as in IPL with Mumbai Indians.

New Zealand vs Pakistan: Shaheen Afridi feels frustrated after missed chances

New Zealand vs Pakistan: Shaheen Afridi feels frustrated after missed chances.

New Zealand vs Pakistan 1st Test: Young pacer who put up a brilliant show on the first day of the Boxing Day Test against New Zealand must be saddened after plenty of mischances.

Shaheen Afridi after the end of the play of Day1 feels frustrated due to the number of missed chances in the field as well as by the straightforward LBW.

The stand-in skipper Mohammad Rizwan opened up well winning the toss and opting to field first. The speedster Shaheen Afridi started his spell with two wickets in quick succession. Afridi removed Tom Latham and Tom Bundell cheaply sending New Zealand into backfoot.

However, Pakistan could not manage to pick one more wicket the whole day. Afridi made few chances where wickets would fall but Pakistani fielders dropped chcnces.

We did try to get wickets early on with new balls and took two wickets but if you don’t take catches it will be difficult,” Afridi said.

A brilliant parternership of 120 runs came to end after Shaheen Afridi removed Ros Taylor who became the most capped player across format for New Zealand.

New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson and Henry Nicolls ensured a another good parternership of unbeaten 89 runs to end the play of Day 1.

Dropped Chances :

Before the end of the Day, Williamson and Nicholls both were given lives. Williamson was dropped twice in the slips by Shan Masood and Haris Sohail – off Naseem Shah and Afridi respectively, while Henry Nicholls was also given a chance.

To put salt in the wounds, Pakistani skipper Mohammad Rizwan did not take a simple LBW review to get rid of New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson off Shaheen Afridi. A well-directed yorker hit the pads of Williamson which would eventually hit the off stumps.

They batted hard but I am 100% frustrated by the dropped catches. It’s disappointing when you drop catches, and we didn’t take the review (on Williamson),” Afridi said.

It’s a part of the game but if you need to win matches you have to take catches and have to improve the fielding. They know how to play in their conditions so it is tough, but the ball is still new and tomorrow we will come hard to take wickets as early as possible.”

As the Day 1 of the first test ended, New Zealand closes on 222 for 3 wickets, and Kane Williamson who is six runs short of his 23rd Test Ton while Henry Nicholls as his partner.

Australia vs India: I won’t comment on Rahane’s captaincy, Sunil Gavaskar

Australia vs India: I won’t comment on Rahane’s captaincy, Sunil Gavaskar.

Australia vs India 2nd Test: Former Indian cricketing great Sunil Gavaskar refrain to comment on Rahane’s captaincy during the talk show in Sony. I won’t comment on Rahane’s captaincy says Sunil Gavaskar.

Team India in the absence of skipper Virat Kohli bowled out Australian on 195 in the first innings of the second test match. Stand-in skipper Ajinkya Rahane rotated his resources well to keep the pressure on Aussies batsmen which eventually helped the bowlers to deliver upfront.

Sunil Gavaskar looked pretty impressed by Rahane’s captaincy but refrain to say any word as he would be accused of backing fellow Mumbaikars.

I will be accused, Sunil Gavaskar:

From what I have examined and seen in the last 2 tests and ODIs he led, he has got a good sense of field placement. It is very important for any captain to use the right bowler for specific batsmen. Having said that, it is crucial for bowlers to bowl according to the field placement. If bowlers pitch in right areas and bowl according to the field the captain eventually looks good,” Gavaskar said on Sony Network.

Importantly, let’s not jump to the conclusions too quickly as these are early days and anything can happen. If I say I am impressed by his captaincy and he has been outstanding, I will be accused of supporting a Mumbai boy and all kinds of things will happen.”

The bowlers did their job nicely. Bumrah and Ashwin picking initial wickets were more important. However, let’s not forget Siraj who impressed with his lengths and took two wickets in his debut match.

Siraj’s Bowling:

It is important to think beyond Rahane’s captaincy. The way Bumrah and Ashwin were controlled. The way Siraj made completed his spell is outstanding. I mean imagine, being a new ball bowler and not getting a single over in the opening hour. You get to bowl in the second session when the ball is old and tired but the intent was clear. Siraj took two crucial wickets and made his debut memorable.

After bowlers steal the show against Australia, another debutant Shubman Gill has been equally impressive. Gill scoring with that confidence in his debut game is phenomenal.

India are 36/1 at the stumps of Day 1 while Australia batting first has been restricted to 195 runs.

Shadab Khan to miss Pakistan’s home series against South Africa.

Pakistan vs South Africa: Shadab Khan to miss Pakistan’s home series against South Africa due to injury. The senior all-rounder has been fully ruled out of the ongoing test series against New Zealand as well as advised to take rest till full recovery.

It is almost clear that the all-rounder will miss the whole South Africa tour which consists of two test games followed by three T20Is.

After the competition of the six-week period, the medical panel will access and evaluate the injury before making a call on Shadab’s return to competitive cricket,” Saleem said in a statement on Saturday.

Shadab Khan will stay with the team in the New Zealand tour and start his rehab program under the eyes of the team’s medical team.
