3 Things To Expect For IPL Season 14 2021

0

The IPL 2020 season is done, with the Mumbai Indians further cementing their spot as one of the greatest teams in the league’s history. With that still fresh in the minds of fans, talks about the next and 14th season in 2021 have started and people are eager to have as much information as they can have about it.

While there is very little available information right now about the IPL 2021 season, there are already things that fans can go with, such as early IPL 2021 betting odds sites in India, for example. But aside from that, what are the things that we currently know about the upcoming IPL 2021 season?

When will the IPL 2021 start?

While there is still no official start date announced for the upcoming IPL 2021, it is already expected that it would be delayed by at least two weeks, as compared to the start date of the IPL 20219 season. This pouts the possible opening of the upcoming season by no earlier than April 10, 2021. This hint was due to the current schedule of England’s tour of India that is facilitated by the BCCI. To recall, the IPL 2019 opened its season on March 23, 2019.

The BCCI, as per their announced schedule for India’s four-Test, five T20I, and three ODI series facing off with England, would have all these activities end on March 8, 2021. Following that, IPL players are expected to take a short break and fulfill any commercial or sponsorship obligation that some of them may have on backlog before they can finally get ready for the new season.

Time is one of the biggest pressures here as the 2020 season was delayed so much that almost the entire calendar of activities for the league was moved to a later date.

Suresh Raina to return to professional cricket

Former India and Chennai Super Kings batsman Suresh Raina has been confirmed to return to the Indian Premier League. Known as one of the highest earners in the IPL’s franchise history, Raina did not play for the league for more than two years, with his last team being CSK.

After he decides to skip the IPL 2020 and leaving CSK, Raina would then have to undergo an auction process before getting signed on for his new team, or whether if CSK would end up acquiring him again. As for the auction itself, the BCCI has yet to announce how the deals for the upcoming seasons would go. Regardless, for Raina, the Syed Mushtaq Ali would be a good way to showcase his strength before the actual auctions start.

New teams? Maybe, maybe not

One of the several changes that are being suggested for the IPL 2021 season is the addition of new teams. This would have not been a problem, had the world, particularly India, did not go through the pandemic that started earlier this year and is still raging on in several parts of the world.

Some BCCI officials are reportedly thinking that adding teams for this season is not a feasible decision. This is considering that there is very little time to prepare for the new teams–since setting up a team is not as easy as gathering people to play and getting a coach to manage. Another reason is that adding in more teams would also mean having more games in a home and wavy format. This is something that does not sound like a good idea, especially in the times of a pandemic like what India is still going through right now.

Mohammad Shami’s Injury Updates: The visitors were brutally exposed by the Australian pacer on Saturday to end the first test on the third day itself. Virat and Co. were restricted to just 39/9 in the second innings and Cummins and Hazlewood wrapped Indian batting inside one over of the play.

However, to wrap the innings, Pat Cummins’s bouncer hit Mohammad Shami’s wrist trying to dodge a fierce bouncer. Shami looked in pain and soon called the physio on the ground. Mohammad Shami tried to be on the field but could not handle the pain from the wrist.

Shami went retired hurt giving Australia 90 runs target to win the game.

He looked in pain, Virat Kohli:

During the post-match presentation, Indian skipper Virat Kohli was asked for updates on Shami’s injury to which he replied, he looked in a lot of pain and is taken to the hospital for further scans.

No news on Mohammad Shami, he is going for a scan now. Was in a lot of pain, could not even lift his arm. We’ll probably know in the evening what happens,” Virat Kohli on Shami’s update during the post-match presentation.

If Shami doesn’t get fit for the second game against India at Melbourne Cricket Ground, it will be a big blow for the Indian bowling lineup. Ishant Sharma was previously ruled out of the series due to injury concerns.

However, the exact reports and updates on the pacer’s injury still remain to be seen.

Australia wins the easy win in the first game took up the lead 1-0. Both the teams will lock horns for the Boxing Day Test at Melbourne Cricket Ground on 26th December.

Australia vs India 1st Test: Joe Burns hitting the winning runs for Australia as the home team brutally thrashed India by 8 wickets in the first test match at Adelaide.

After a bit of lanky show by the Australian batsmen in the first innings, bowlers took the charge of the 2nd innings for Australia. Pat Cummins started removing Indian batsmen from one end while the other end was handled by Josh Hazlewood.

Both the pacers took nine wickets together in inside one hour of play on the third day. Hazlewood picked five-for while Pat Cummins took 4 scalps.

Indian batters could not absorb the shock from Australian bowlers as none of the batsmen touched double-digit runs. Mayank Agarwal’s 9 from 40 being the highest form the Indian side.

Matthew Wade and Joe Burns opened the innings for Australia and played comfortably. Both the openers amassed 70 runs for the first wicket almost confirming the victory before Wade got run out.

Joe Burns completed his much-needed half-century with Steve Smith appearing to play just one ball.

Australian skipper Tim Paine was the “Man of the Match” for his brilliant knock in the first innings to reach close to the Indian total. Paine remained 73 not out in the first innings of Australia.

Twitter’s Reaction to India’s Performance:

Shoaib Akhtar: I woke up & saw the score 369. I couldn’t believe it. Then i washed my eyes and saw the score 36/9. I couldn’t believe it either & went back to sleep.

Virender Sehwag: The OTP to forget this is 49204084041 .

Shane Warne: Wow!! What a bowling display that was from Pat Cummins & Josh Hazlewood here in Adelaide. Just outstanding. Have to feel for the Indian batsman as never saw that coming – it was one of those days where the batsman nicked everything & didn’t play and miss at all ! Unbelievable…

Aakash Chopra: Pitch has misbehaved slightly in only one of the 29 dismissals thus far. The one that kept low to Labuchange yesterday.

Australia vs India: Team India’s lowest score in Tests, 1st Test against Australia. Pat Cummins and Josh Hazelwood exposed the Indian batting lineup. Team India’s lowest score in Tests, 1st Test against Australia.

Australia vs India: The visitors showed a full flop show on the third day of the first test against Australia. With Australian deadly bowlers making comeback into the game, restricted Team India to the lowest ever score registered in Test Cricket.

Australia reduced India to just 39/9 in the first hour of the third day which is the lowest total recorded by India. India faced more embarrassment after Star Bowler Mohammad Shami could not bat at the end after being hit by Short Ball from Mitchell Starc.

The ball struck in Shami’s wrist and he could not complete the innings. It would be a loss for India if medical reports of Mohammad Shami show a fracture on the wrist.

India’s earlier recorded its lowest total of 42 runs against England in 1974 at Lord’s.

The visitor’s innings was declared at 39/9 after Shami walked off in pain.

On the second day, Indian bowlers took a decent lead of 53 runs but Australians made their comeback after dismissing Prithwi Shaw early in the second innings of India.

On day three, none of the Indian players could touch the double-digit mark as Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood registered their four and five wickets respectively.

At one stage, India was on verge of setting the lowest total of the cricketing history but Hanuma Vihari’s boundary saved Team India from the darkest page of Cricketing history.

Indian batsmen were completely exposed by the extra bounce generated by the Australian seamers who played a major role in the collapse of Indian batting.

After a flop show in the first test, the whole series looks in danger. Management will have to make a perfect combination of the players as Virat Kohli will be leaving Australia after the test and Virat’s absence will be huge for Australia.

Use Pink Ball instead of “Pathetic” Red Ball says, Shane Warne

Use Pink Ball instead of “Pathetic” Red Ball says, Shane Warne.

The Australian spin great Shane Warne feels ICC should use Pink ball more often. The former cricketer made a statement on using Pink Ball on all the games. Warne says the Pink ball should replace the “Pathetic” red ball in every aspect.

The pink ball is used in Day/Night Test games only after getting introduced in 2015.

I am in the favor of using the pink ball in all the test games. Day games, not just day-night games. I have been saying this for the last few years now,” Warne said on Fox Cricket.

Pink ball is easier to watch, you can actually see the ball easier, the crowd can see the ball easier. This ball generally looks fantastic on TV and works well comparing with Red Ball. So why not use a pick ball the whole time in Test cricket? Maybe you will need to change it every 60 overs because it goes soft, but I would be using the pink ball for every Test match so more of it I would say,” he added.

The Aussie spinner said, the red ball does not offer much movement to the bowlers except the dukes on in England and gets soft over often.

Red Ball doesn’t swing, Shane Warne:

“No more red ball, it doesn’t swing, it doesn’t swing, it does nothing and gets soft every 25 overs. It has been pathetic for so long now. Except for the Dukes ball in England, it has been rubbish.”

The pink ball can’t be any worse than what the red ball has been for Test cricket. We haven’t seen swing, we haven’t seen seam. Absolutely nothing. “So let’s try the pink ball in Test cricket,” he added.

The conversation was recorded as India and Australia are right now involved in the first test game of the four-match series.

New Zealand vs Pakistan 1st T20I: New Zealand thrashed Pakistan by 5 wickets to claim the victory in the first T20I.

New Zealand claimed a convincing five wickets win over Pakistan in the first Twenty20 game with seven balls to spare. The speedster Jacob Duffy’s potent spell of 4-34 in his debut innings paved the way off for the home team.

Earlier, Pakistan won the toss and decided to bat first.

Pakistan’s innings:

Pakistan could not tackle the surprise of Jacob Duffy as the debutant speedster picked Shafique in his first over for a duck. Duffy did not stop here and picked the scalps of Rizwan and Mohammad Hafeez in two back to back deliveries.

Scott Kuggeleijn dismissed Haidar Ali and forced the visitors to the backfoot. Pakistan was reduced to 20-4 in just 5 overs.

The stand-in skipper, Shadab Khan tried to re-build the innings while there was no support from the other end. New Zealand bowlers did not let anyone settle down and score big.

Once again debutant Duffy showed his class, dismissed well-set Shadab Khan with a top edge to Ish Sodhi.

At the end to accelerate the run rate, tailender Faheem Ashraf picked some blinders out of the parks. Faheem scored quickfire 31 from 18 balls to set a respectable total for the home team.

New Zealand restricted Pakistan on 153-9 in 20 overs. Debutant Jacob Duffy picked the most 4 scalps while Scott Kuggeleijn got three wickets. Ish Sodhi and Flair Tickner got one each.

New Zealand:

The hosts while chasing looked pretty comfortable. Wicketkeeper Batsman Tim Siefert was the highest scorer of the game, amassing 57 runs in 43 balls. Siefert completed his fourth T20I half-century.

Two quick wickets for Haris Rauf paused the run chase for a moment but well set Tim Siefert was scoring at the other end.

Mark Chapman’s fiery innings to close the run-chase sailed New Zealand to a comfortable five wickets win with 7 balls to spare.

Chapman amassed 34 runs from 20 deliveries that included four boundaries and a six.

The hosts broke Pakistan’s winning streak as New Zealand thrashed Pakistan by 5 wickets in the opening game of the three games series.

Jacob Duffy for his excellent debut was given the “Man of the Match” award.
