5 Reasons Why RCB failed to make it to the finals of Dream11 IPL2020. Royal Challenger Bangalore flaws in IPL 20 edition: 5 Reasons Why RCB failed to make it to the finals of Dream11 IPL2020

Royal Challenger Bangalore is yet to win an IPL title. This season of IPL 2020 had shown them some rays of hope to get closer to the IPL title and quench RCB’s thirst. But the wait seems to continue for RCB and management. Dream 11 IPL 2020 for RCB started with a win and looked good till the first half of the tournament. RCB won 7 out of their first 10 matches. But as the tournament progressed to the second half, RCB lost all the 5 games they played.

Here are 5 reasons why RCB failed :

Dependence on Virat and AB de Villiers:

Royal Challenger Bangalore is a lot dependent on the performance of Virat and AB. They have choked most of the time when these two batsmen failed to score runs for the side. Virat Kohli was in the good form in the first half but got out early in the last few matches. The same is with AB de Villiers. They need to find a few strong and dependent middle over batsmen to overcome this flaw.

Not giving proper time to the players:

Virat Kohli is someone who believes a lot in the current form. He makes changes in the side very quickly. If a player is not performing to the mark, he will bench him and include other players.

Not finding the right playing 11:

RCB and management have failed to find the perfect playing 11 for the side. We have seen too many changes in the recent games of RCB. Finding the right 11 players for the game is very important and RCB has failed miserably in it. In the last match, Eliminator RCB made as many as four changes in the side, which is rare in a high-intensity match.

Slow Run Rate in middle overs:

Virat Kohli led RCB has the lowest Run Rate in the middle overs(6- 16 overs) in Dream11 IPL 2020. RCB scores with 6.80 runs per over in the middle, which is the lowest in this season of IPL by any team. Because of the slow run rate in middle overs, they have to play drastically fast in the death overs.

Losing too many wickets at death:

Because of the slow knocks in the middle overs, RCB faces a lot of pressure at death overs and they lose too many wickets at death.

RCB in death overs (16-20) last five matches:

Vs CSK: 44/4

Vs MI: 35/4

Vs SRH: 27/3

Vs DC: 49/5

Vs SRH: 38/3

Match Highlights(SRH vs RCB):

Kane Williamson’s crucial half-century and Jason Holder’s all-round show eliminated Virat Kohli and his men from Dream11 IPL 2020. Sunrisers Hyderabad chased a total of 132 runs comfortably with 2 balls spare. Now SRH will have to play against Delhi Capitals in qualifier 2 on Sunday, 8th November at Zayed Cricket Stadium, Abu Dhabi. Earlier, David Warner won the toss and invited RCB to bat first. SRH had one change in their lineup, ace Batsman Wriddhiman Saha missed out due to an injury. Shreevats Goswami has replaced him. Also, Royal Challenger Bangalore did as many as four changes in their lineup, Aaron Finch, Adam Zampa, Moeen Ali and Navdeep Saini came back into the playing 11.

Royal Challenger Bangalore(RCB):

The change for RCB did not worked much. Jason holder started the damage by dismissing in-form Virat Kohli and Devdutt Padikkal inside 4 overs. Aaron Finch and AB de Villiers tried to construct a much-needed partnership but Shahbaz Nadeem got Finch(32 from 30 balls)  in the 11th over.

However, AB de Villiers stood up at another end and completed his half-century in 43 balls. The other end was inconsistent, SRH bowlers were able to pick all of them with ease. AB de Villiers got bowled to T Natarajan 18th over. From there it was all over for RCB with the bat.

RCB batsmen just managed to put 131 runs on the board with the loss of 7 wickets in 20 overs. Jason Holder was the key bowler for SRH, picking 3 wickets while T Natarajan picked 2 and Nadeem got one into his pocket.

Sunrisers Hyderabad(SRH):

The change for Wriddhiman Saha did not pay off to SRH. Mohd. Siraj got wicketkeeper Batsman Shreevats Goswami in the first over of the innings. David Warner and Manish Pandey took Sunrisers past 40 runs in the 5th over. Mohd. Siraj provided another breakthrough to RCB, dismissing skipper David Warner in the 6th over. Manish Pandey also got out in the 9th over off Mohd. Siraj.

Trailblazers will be high on confidence, as they restricted Mitali Raj’s Velocity to a short 49 runs total in the last outing on Thursday, 5th November. Sophie Ecclestone picked four wickets against Velocity. The one-sided win from Trailblazers reflected on their Net Run Rate. The Run Rate of Trailblazers is now over +3 and they just need to play a game and try not to lose it with a huge margin and they will be on the finals of the Jio Women’s T20 Challenge.

While Supernova faced a defeat on the opener of the T20 Challenge, Harmanpreet Kaur will look to win this game to reach the finals of the tournament. Velocity thrashed Supernova in the 1st game of the season by 5 wickets. Supernova will look to win the game against Trailblazers to take 2nd spot in the points table leaving behind Velocity. Velocity’s previous miserable defeat resulted in a huge dip in the Net Run Rate( – 1.869).

Match Preview(SRH vs RCB):

Dream11 IPL 2020: Sunrisers Hyderabad will play against Royal Challenger Bangalore to seal the spot in Qualifier 2 against Delhi Capitals. Delhi had lost Qualifier 1 against Mumbai Indians, but due to better performance in the league stages, they will get an extra opportunity to prove themselves. However, the case with Sunrisers Hyderabad and Royal Challengers Bangalore is not the same. Whoever lost the eliminator will have to leave the tournament. And the team to win the eliminator will face Delhi Capitals in Eliminator 2.

Sunrisers will come out all guns blazing as they have won all their must-win games back to back. Sunrisers needed to win 3 matches for a spot in the top 4. David Warner led SRH defeated Mumbai Indians(MI), Royal Challenger Bangalore(RCB) and Delhi Capitals(DC) in his last three outings.

While RCB had some different outcomes in its last 4 matches. Royal Challenger Bangalore could not capitalize on its performance of the first half of the league phase, as they lost all their last 4 matches in a trot.

Player’s to Watch:

Wriddhiman Saha and David Warner(SRH):

Wriddhiman Saha and David Warner(SRH)

The Indian wicketkeeper-batsman has changed the fortune of SRH. The management had to take an unusual decision to bench the Englishmen Jhonny Bairstow and open up with Saha alongside skipper David Warner. Saha proved his stance with back to back long batting stand with opener David Warner for the opening wicket. Also, the inclusion of Saha had brought balance in the lineup, they can now play with Jason Holder and Kane Williamson together.

Also, David Warner has shown why he is one of the best white-ball cricketers in the world. He is the most consistent overseas batsman in IPL history. David Warner yet another time has touched the mark of 500 runs. For the 6th time consecutively, Warner tramped over 500 runs.

Warner and Saha partnership will be the crucial one for SRH to cement the qualifier 2 spot. And it is seen almost 99% of matches they win just because of their opening stand.

Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers(RCB):

AB de Villiers (RCB)

RCB for the first time in the last six years reached playoffs and they would definitely want to make it count. Royal Challenger Bangalore depends a lot on performances from Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers. Virat from consecutive flop shows in the starting matches to score back to back half centuries has come a long way.

AB de Villers has not delivered in past few matches for RCB. Now this will be high time that he could do something for his side. Also, in the previous outing against SRH, AB scored a brilliant half-century to take his side to victory.

Rashid Khan(SRH) and Yuzvendra Chahal(RCB):

The spin duo has been the leading wicket-takers for their respective teams. Yuzvendra leading the spinners chart with 20 wickets in 14 matches while on the other hand, Rashid Khan has been outstanding in giving breakthroughs. Khan picked 19 wickets in 14 outings for SRH and is the leading wicket-taker for Hyderabad. A good performance from these two can lead their respective side to victory.

But de Kock and Surya Kumar looked fearless to score runs on regular occasions. In the 8th over Ravi Ashwin once again dismissed Quinten de Kock when he was about to reach his half-century. Surya Kumar Yadav got caught to Shikhar Dhawan after a well-directed half-century from his bat.

Delhi was restricted to just 143 – 8 in 20 overs by Mumbai Indians.

For Mumbai, Jasprit Bumrah ended with 4/14 and won the purple cap. Trent Boult figures were also threatening 2/9 in 2 overs. While Kieron Pollard and Krunal Pandya picked one each.

Post Match Presentation:

Sophie Ecclestone | Player of the Match:

 We have a great team with a great bunch of girls, to come up here again and play for them is great. When the wicket wasn’t turning, so I tried to keep it straight and vary the pace. It’s quite nice to get a few wickets. So many youngsters around, they are teaching me the Hindi language and I’m trying to understand their culture.

Smriti Mandhana | Trailblazers captain:

We were really excited. We were raring to play cricket after a break of seven months. It was a good game. I was happy with Mithali’s decision as we wanted to have a look at the wicket. The bowling plans were according to the batters. I just told all the bowlers to keep it back of a length and stick to the stump line. We have a good spin attack. I was following IPL, so I thought we had a good bowling attack (with all the spinners). It’s an exciting tournament, even last year it was really exciting. It’s an amazing opportunity for everyone. This is really going to help women’s cricket.

Deandra Dottin:

I just wanted to get the runs quickly because cricket is a funny game. There could be a spot where you will have to go through on net run rate. Talking to my friends back home, watching Netflix, that’s all that I have been doing during the lockdown. We will rest up a bit before playing our next game.

Mithali Raj | Velocity captain:

 Definitely (would want to forget this game). But it is fine because when you have a fresh wicket the batters want to have a bat. That’s the reason we chose to bat. Personally, I would have liked Dani and Shafali to have a big partnership because they are the key for our batting line up and we are dependent on them to give us a start. Unfortunately in both the games we didn’t get that, Shafali played a cameo but we wanted Dani to spend some time in the middle and then there was a collapse. We are going to recover from this defeat. I think it is important we regroup and analyze, we haven’t had much preparation, two games back to back and no team gets bad in one game. The girls just need to cheer up because they would have felt bad after today’s game.

Women’s T20 Challenge: Velocity beats Supernova by 5 wickets

Women’s T20 Challenge: Velocity beats Supernova by 5 wickets. The first game of Women’s T20 Challenge and what a thriller: Velocity beats Supernova by 5 wickets.

Match Highlights (Velocity vs Supernova):

Women’s T20 Challenge opener was played between Supernova and Velocity on Wednesday, 4th November. The opener was hosted at Sharjah Cricket Stadium, Sharjah at usual timings of evening matches i.e.,19:30 IST (14:00 GMT), 18:00 LOCAL. The first match was one of the thrillers to watch. It was a low scoring game due to Sharjah pitches which tends to slow down as the tournament progresses.

Earlier, Velocity won the toss and opt to bowl first, keeping that dew factor in mind. The first breakthrough came in the 6th over, Kasperek dismissing Priya Punia (11 off 15). Rodrigues(7 off 8) became the second one to get dismissed in 8th over by Ekta Bisht. A good partnership between Athapaththu and captain Harmanpreet Kaur which took Supernova past 85 runs. The partnership was broken by Jahanara Alam picking Athapaththu(44 off 39) in 14 over.

Harmanpreet Kaur(31 from 27) looked in good touch but sent to the dugout by Jahanara Alam. S Siriwardene managed to score 18 from 21 balls and got run out. No other got to settle down at the end as a result Supernova put 126 – 8 in 20 overs.

Ekta Bisht was the pick of the bowler, she returned with the figures 3/22 in 4 overs while Jahanara Alam and Kasperek got two wickets each.

Velocity didn’t get a good start, Ayabonga Khaka dismissed Danielle Wyatt for a duck. Shafali Verma(17 from 11 balls) could not capitalize on her good start, she was removed by Ayabonga Khaka in the 3rd over, Captain Mitali Raj(7 off 19 balls) also dismissed cheaply by S Siriwardene in the 9th over.

Veda Krishnamurthy and Sushma Verma stitched a good partnership of another 30 runs, this partnership for the 4th wicket took Velocity past 60 runs in the 13th over. While Veda Krishnamurthy (29 from 28 balls) was dismissed by Radha Yadav in the 13th over.

Velocity got a match-winning duo when Sushma Verma and Sune Luus took Velocity closer to the total. They built a good another 50 runs stand and almost won the game for Velocity. But Sushma Verma(34 from 33 balls) was dismissed to Poonam Yadav on the last ball of the 18th over.

Sune Luus was unbeaten on quickfire 37 from 21 balls. Velocity reached a total of 129 – 5 in one ball prior. For Supernova, Ayabonga Khaka picked two wickets while, Radha Yadav, Poonam Yadav and Shashikala Siriwardene got one wicket each.

Post Match Presentation(Velocity vs Supernova):

Harmanpreet Kaur | Supernovas (losing) captain:

Yes, we were 20 runs short, but if you want to win the game, you have to keep bowling well. I think whatever we thought, we didn’t bowl according to our plans in the last couple of overs. They batted really well. Last four overs, we didn’t utilize it very well with the bat. We could’ve looked for the singles at least but we didn’t get those runs. Playing after a long time, it’s not easy for the players. If you keep winning then only you can survive in this tournament. We need to come up with a positive approach in the next game. There was dew in the last couple of overs, but I feel it’s part of the game and we didn’t win this because we didn’t bowl well in the last couple of overs.

Mithali Raj | Velocity (winning) captain:

It went very close. Definitely challenging. Most of the girls were part of the T20 World Cup but Jhulan and I are playing after the last edition. I was expecting 120-130, but you expect the openers to get you 30-40 runs. Losing Dani, our main player, there was some panic, but Veda and Luus have played really well and got us back on track. Such platforms help young players rub shoulders with seniors and their idols and that’s excellent exposure for them. It’s difficult to prepare for back-to-back games since it’s a 2 PM game tomorrow, but that’s how it is.

Sune Luus | Player of the Match (37* off 21):

It was a difficult task. The other team bowled very well, but Veda and Sushma batted really well, rotated the strike and hit boundaries too. Sushma told me every ball to stay here till the end. I didn’t find the surface that difficult, and it was coming on quite nicely. You saw the sixes that we managed to hit. I think it played nicely throughout the innings, so I think it depends on your style of batting whether the conditions suit you or not. We’re very grateful to the BCCI and the ICC, for organizing a tournament like this, especially in these crazy times.

Match Preview(MI vs DC):

Dream11 IPL 2020 finally has entered into the business end now. After a lot of thrilling and exciting contests in the league stages. What could be more interesting than six teams fighting for a spot in playoffs till the end of the tournament? While Mumbai Indians, Delhi Capitals, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Royal Challenger Bangalore making it to the final four of the Playoffs.

Qualifier 1 of Dream11 IPL2020 will be played between defending champions Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals, Delhi who is clearly eyeing to open their account in the list of IPL Winners. The match will be played on Thursday, 5th November at Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai. Action will begin in the usual timings of evening games i.e., 19:30 IST (14:00 GMT), 18:00 LOCAL.

Delhi Capitals(DC):

Shreyas Iyer led Delhi Capitals has shown their calibre in the first half of the tournament. The later phase did not go as planned, loosing back to back games in a trot. Delhi in his last five games just managed to get a single win. That win came against Royal Challenger Bangalore which put them in 2nd spot of the points table.

The yet to become champions would definitely come up with a master plan against mighty Mumbai in order to get a direct ticket to the final of the IPL on 10th November. Prithivi Shaw is definitely not in the best flow at the moment, just been able to score 228 in 12 games.

Few changes in the last game proved out positive for them. Ajinkya Rahane coming in at number 3 giving them necessary momentum after a poor start. Axer Patel and Daniel Sams have provided enough depth in bowling as well as in batting. Though Danial Samas was expensive last night but the combination gets almost perfect with the inclusion of the Australian.

Anrich Nortje hitting the balls at right length is a good sign for Delhi Capitals. Rabada’s form will be crucial for them. Shreyas Iyer will also look to score big for his side in order to defeat robust Mumbai.

Mumbai Indians(MI):

The four-time champions are on song this IPL. They have a smooth IPL journey this edition. Mumbai Indians performance has been consistent this season. Producing a different match-winner in every other game is their strength.

The last match against Sunrisers Hyderabad did not go their way, probably the worst defeat this season for them. Given that they benched their key matchwinners, Bumrah, Boult and Pandya were given rest to overcome workload. This also broke their momentum to a certain extent. But Mumbai will be full of confidence in the game against DC to get one step closer to their 5th IPL Trophy.

The Mumbai skipper has recovered well and is completely fine now. Also, Kieron Pollard is constantly smashing balls out of the park and produced match-winning knock for MI.
