KKR vs RR: Cummins, Morgan Shines, KKR Defeated RR By 60 Runs. Dream11 IPl 2020: Match no 54, KKR beats RR by 60 runs, keeping their campaign tall.

Highlights(KKR vs RR):

Pat Cummins and Eoin Morgan shine with the ball and bat respectively to sail Kolkata Knight Riders to a safe victory by huge 60 runs. With the loss to KKR, Rajasthan has now been eliminated from the tournament. Rajasthan becomes the third team to get eliminated after Chennai Super Kings and Kings XI Punjab. RR finished last in the points table due to a poor run rate.

Earlier, Steve Smith won the toss and opt to bowl first. Jofra Archer proved his worth again by providing an early breakthrough to the Royals. Jofra dismissed Nitish Rana in the second ball of the match. Shubman Gill and Rahul Tripathi took Kolkata past 70 runs. They both were hitting the ball nicely, but Rahul Tewatia dismissed good looking Shubman Gill(36 off 24). Shreyash Gopal removed another set batsmen Rahul Tripathi(39 off 34). Sunil Narine and Dinesh Karthik went for a duck off Rahul Tewatia.

Eoin Morgan, KKR skipper scored blistering 68 runs in 35 balls includes 5 boundaries and 6 towering sixes. Morgan remained unbeaten this time. Also, some wrist work from Andre Russell. He made quickfire 25 off just 11 deliveries. KKR ended on 191 – 7 in 20 overs.

Rahul Tewatia was the pick of the bowlers for RR, picking 3 crucial wickets. Kartik Tyagi got two wickets while Jofra Archer and Shreyas Gopal got one each.

Rajasthan Royals’ opening looked good at the start, having hit Pat Cummins for 19 runs in the very first over. But the Australian pacer picked Robin Uthappa and Ben Stokes in two consecutive overs. The Rajasthan Skipper Steve Smith failed to score this time. Pat Cummins dismissed Smith cheaply of just 4 runs.

Shivam Mavi got rid of in-form Sanju Samson in the 4th over of the innings. Rajasthan till this time has collapsed. Youngster Riyan Parag also sent to the dugout but Cummins in 5th over. Rahul Tewatia and Shreyash Gopal tried to handle the innings and make a comeback.

Both got a good start but failed to capitalize on it. Varun Chakravarthy provided a needed breakthrough to the KKR. He dismissed dangerous Rahul Tewatia( 31 off 27). However,  Shreyas Gopal was trying hard at another end to get closer to the total but none of the batsmen were left to play crucial innings for Rajasthan Royals.

KKR bowlers restricted Rajasthan Royals batting lineup to just 131 – 9 in 20 overs. They won this game by huge 60 runs which will eventually improve KKR’s Net Run Rate.

Post Match Presentation:

Steve Smith | Losing Captain:

We thought 180 was par. But losing four in the first four didn’t help. He (Cummins) bowled nice lengths and made us play big shots. Unfortunately we are at the wrong end of the result. We started well with two wins, we won two before this one but we were inconsistent in the middle we didn’t take enough responsibility. Couple of positives for us, Jofra has played exceptionally well for us. Tewatia pulled a few out of the hat for us, bowled exceptionally well through the tournament as well. You need to win those you should win. The BCCI and everyone involved to get this tournament up and running have done a fantastic. Hope we were able to put few smile on people’s faces, especially in India where it’s been tough.

Andre Russell:

It’s a good feeling to be back on the field. It’s been a tough two weeks doing rehab three times a day, was a bit painful. But, I’m happy that I’m back. It’s a grade two hamstring tear which usually takes 8 weeks to heal. The scan was very ugly. With KKR physio and doctors around me, it helped. I was bowling a few walk upon balls before the game tonight, and it felt good. When it (hamstring) is feeling good, that’s when it’s healing, and I don’t want to disturb the healing process. We have a good bowling (attack), so I can chip in with the yorkers at the backend, but for now I’m going to take one game at a time. As soon as I sweat and my blood’s getting hot, I’m getting out. We were waiting for the cricket gods to work things out for us. I watch each and every game. We play against each other, two games against the same team in a season. So, I watch on the phone what the bowlers do and the batters do.

Eoin Morgan | Winning Captain:

I thought it was around a par score. Every batsman who came back in and said that it was a beautiful wicket with the dew in. We lost wickets between 10th and 15th overs, and to finish like we did was really good. We were out there to be play a free-flowing style of cricket. That was the only way we were going to win. Especially with the dew factor expected anyway, irrespective of when it came. Bringing out Dre Russ in meant that it took the conditions out of the equation. We backed the guys to take a bit of risk even if it wasn’t there. That was one thing we talked about, leading into this game. We felt that a hard length or a good length was the best spot to bowl. We tried to execute that in the first six overs and I thought Mavi was outstanding. Obviously Pat set the tone early on. Winning the game was about taking wickets, especially early. RR are a side that are top-heavy and you need to get them early. Having that aggressive mindset was important for us. Yes, I was aware of the numbers (about net run rate) but you need to first get yourself into a winning position. I don’t think we could have done anything more today. So whatever happens from here is upto the Gods.

Pat Cummins, Man of the Match:

Pat Cummins (KKR vs RR)

(On going for 19 in the first over) A lot goes through your mind. First few balls weren’t great. As long as you go back to bowling your best balls, it’s alright. Top of off is always that area for me, there was a bit early in there with the new ball. So, I was trying to get as many in there as I can. Not really, don’t think I expected to get all wickets like that. Some days you bowl well and don’t get luck, some days you get a bit of luck as well. Today, everything fell into place. I guess early on in the season, I put a lot of pressure on myself. As the tournament has gone on, I’ve got better and better. You’re always learning.

IPL2020, CSK vs KXIP Highlights: Chennai pulls Punjab out of the tournament, as they registered a third consecutive win. Dream11 IPL 2020, Chennai pulls Punjab out of the tournament, as they registered a third consecutive win in 53rd Match of Indian Premier League.

Highlights(CSK vs KXIP):

Ruturaj Gaikwad shines with the bat for Chennai Super Kings, as they clinched their third consecutive victory in their last game of the tournament. CSK hasn’t had a good start to the season with multiple back to back losses, but they somehow found the right playing 11 and now they have ended their tournament on a high. Three back to back wins against RCB, KKR and KXIP.

Earlier, MS Dhoni won the toss and choose to field first to take into consideration of the dew factor. KL Rahul led KXIP looked in good touch in the first few overs. Mayank Aggarwal was back into the squad, both the openers KL Rahul and Mayank Aggarwal were successful in giving a steady start. But Lungi Ngidi removed both Mayank Aggarwal(26 off 15) and KL Rahul(29 off 27).

CSK bowlers didn’t allow any batsmen to get settled and play the knock. Wickets were falling in succession and KXIP were in the backfoot now. Deepak Hodda showed his class against the lethal bowling of CSK. He scored 62 off 30 balls, hitting 3 fours and 4 maximums in his innings. His under pressure knock of 62 guided KXIP to a total of 153 – 6 in 20 overs.

However, the Chennai bowling attack was good throughout. Lungi Ngidi picked 3 wickets, Shardul Thakur, Ravindra Jadeja and Imran Tahir picked one wicket each to finish on a high.

MS Dhoni-led CSK who was earlier struggling with opening combination, however, got a perfect pair now. Faf-du plessis and Ruturaj Gaikwad batted sensibly at the start and both made a brilliant 82 runs stand for the opening wicket for Chennai. Later on, in the innings, Chris Jordan was able to pick Faf-du plessis when he was about to reach his half-century. Faf scored 48 runs from 34 balls.

Ruturaj was standing tall on the other end. He was unbeaten on 62 off 49 balls and Ambati Rayudu also contributed by 30 runs in 30 balls to seal the match for CSK. As they win their last match of the season by 9 wickets.

One main factor for CSK in the past three consecutive wins has been Ruturaj Gaikwad’s performances. The young guy scored consecutive half-centuries in the last three games for CSK. His impact on CSK is clearly seen. Definitely, one good thing to take from the tournament for CSK.

KL Rahul | Losing captain:

It is as simple as that. We didn’t bat really well. Big pressure game and we expected 180-190 on the board, unfortunately we couldn’t soak in the pressure and get a big total. Disappointed but that’s how IPL goes. We didn’t have results going our way in the first half. The team still felt we were playing good cricket. We were patchy at times with the bowling and the batting didn’t come together in the first half, we started doing well in the second half and really proud that we gave ourselves an opportunity to come into the top four. Unfortunate that today and yesterday’s game didn’t go our way but proud of the team. Hopefully come back stronger next year and forget this year. If you look back at it , we had a lot of games in our pocket but we couldn’t get over the line. We only have ourselves to blame. At the start of the tournament, that short run has come back to bite us very hard. We all make mistakes and we have made a few this season. We need to accept it, learn from it and come back stronger.

Faf du Plessis:

Sorry Danny I would like to give you a bat but I only get so many bats. That scoop is the shot I play often and quite bummed that I couldn’t get it but pleased for us to finish the season with a win. He (Gaikwad) looks like a young Virat Kohli doesn’t he. What stands out for me the most is is his composure. Pressure situations don’t really get to him. That is always pleasing to see in a young guy and looks like he has a bright future. I am still loving it. I have got a lot of cricket left in me, at least five years.

MS Dhoni | Winning captain:

It was a difficult campaign for us. I don’t think we played to the full potential. We did commit a lot of errors at different points in the tournament. The last four games, it could be a template as to where we would have liked ourselves to be. If you are lagging behind too much, it becomes very difficult to push yourself and come out with performances. That’s where each and everyone had to contribute. Very proud the way they played their cricket. It would have been very tough 6-7 games. You won’t want to be in a dressing room that is not really enjoying cricket. You want to keep coming up with new formulas and new theories, but if the dressing room atmosphere is not happy, it becomes very tough. A lot depends on what the BCCI decides on the auction. We need to slightly change our core group and look for the next ten years. At the start of the IPL, we made a team and it served well for us. There comes a time where you have to shift a bit, change a bit and hand it over to the next generation. That’s what will be the policy, try to form a strong core group. (Message to the fans) We’ll come back strong, that’s what we are known for. This has been a tough year. This is one of the seasons where most of the teams played well. Or you can say one team played brilliantly which is Mumbai Indians and the rest all have played badly to be in the big cluster. So, it depends on how you want to look at it. There’s definitely a lot of positives. (Many players receiving his jersey) Maybe they thought I am retiring. Whenever we have seen him (Ruturaj Gaikwad) bat, he’s somebody somebody who has batted well. We were not able to see a lot of him in the games. Right at the start of the season, it was a very tough period where he got COVID and was out. Even after 20 days, he wasn’t fit. He didn’t get a lot of practice where we would have loved to see him bat. Even if he’d got 15-20 runs in his first game, it gives you a glimpse. That was one of the main reasons we kept going with Faf and Watson. It didn’t work but I don’t think it was bad. That’s the point where you say I’ll go with the experienced guys and try to come back into tournament. It’s (IPL 2021) only a few months from now, that’s a good thing and hopefully no lockdown so you can put in a lot of pressure on the skill aspect. A lot can be planned provided there’s no lockdown.

Ruturaj Gaikwad | Player of the Match:

I was scoring well in the domestic circuit in every format, so I was feeling confident. Even for my club and state team, I had to be the anchor, make sure the team wins and I stay till the end. At times, I also need to be aggressive. One of my favourite – inside-out (shot). Not to be part of the squad which was practising initially, to miss the first few games, it was difficult for me. But the management and every team mate made sure that I was positive. Important part of the squad and it did help a lot. Being in the change room and being on the field – I was used to it. One or two games, it was surreal (playing with the star players). Even yesterday I saying to Rayudu – ‘it’s the first time I am batting with you, you are my hero,’ and he was happy for that.

MS Dhoni on 2021 IPL:

MS Dhoni (Chennai Super Kings CSK)
MS Dhoni(CSK) | Image – BCCI/IPL

Dhoni in the match between CSK and KXIP cleared the rumors about his last game in IPL. During the toss, former New Zealand cricketer and present commentator asked Dhoni after winning the toss, if this is going to be his last appearance in IPL. Dhoni firmly had two words simple answer “Definitely Not.”

Danny Morrison: Could this be MSD your last game ever in Yellow?

MS Dhoni: “Definitely Not.”

MS Dhoni and Co. did not have a great season this year, probably the worst. CSK is already out of the tournament and will play their last game of the 2020 edition of IPL today. This is the most unusual yeat for the CSK franchise this year, this is the first time in 13 years of IPL that MS Dhoni and Co. will not be a part of Qualifiers.

Chennai Super Kings, definitely this year were not at their best. Also, MS Dhoni, this year is still quite with the bat. He has just 200 runs under his belt in 13 games. This led the fans into rumors that this is probably the last year of MS Dhoni in yellow.

Earlier, this year MS Dhoni announced silent retirement from International cricket(ODI and T20I). Dhoni has himself cleared that he felt a bit undercooked. He has not played a single game since last Cricket World Cup(ODI) and then COVID locked them inside their houses, so they have been away from the field for a long time now.

CSK CEO previously clarified that Dhoni will be in the Yellow squad in 2021 IPL too.

Yes, definitely. I am very confident that Dhoni will lead CSK in 2021. He has won three titles for us in the IPL. This is the first year we have not qualified for the playoffs. No other team has done that. One bad year does not mean we will have to change everything,” K  Viswanathan to TOI.

IPL 2020: DC vs RCB Match Preview, Probable11, Fantasy Tips. Dream11 IPL 2020, Match no 55: DC vs RCB Match Preview, Probable 11, Fantasy Tips, Who will win?

Match Preview(DC vs RCB):

Dream11 IPL2020: Match no 55 will be played between Delhi Capitals and Royal Challenger Bangalore(DC vs RCB) at Zayed Cricket Stadium, Abu Dhabi. The match will be played on Monday, 2nd November at the usual timings of evening games 19:30 IST (14:00 GMT), 18:00 LOCAL. This will be a do-or-die match for both the teams from their perspective. DC and RCB both the teams have suffered severe losses in the recent past to put them under- pressure.

Both the teams have a lot of issues to be addressed before the mouth-watering clash between the two sides. No one will leave no stone unturned, to win the clash. This is going to be pretty interesting to watch.

Delhi Capitals(DC):

Delhi Capitals(DC) walking to play the match.
Delhi Capitals (DC) | Image – BCCI/IPL

Shreyas Iyer led Delhi Capitals(DC) who looked ruthless at the start of the tournament have lost their pace. DC has bossed most of the teams in the first half of the tournament but seems to be losing everything now. Nothing is going their way right now. Every department of Delhi Capitals needs improvement.

The opening which was an ideal one has been a major concern. Prithivi Shaw and Ajinkya Rahane both have been partnered with Shikhar Dhawan but none of them satisfied the team’s need. Shikhar Dhawan previously scored back to back centuries, it seems he has lost his touch midway. His last three scores are 0,0,6.

Shreyas Iyer, DC skipper appears to be tactically wrong under- pressure. Also, his batting has been an issue. Rishabh Pant has failed to connect the ball with the bat. He seems out of form in this IPL. Rishabh Pant who provides Delhi Capitals a hammering finishes at death has failed to capitalize on many occasions in the near past.

The bowling unit of Delhi Capitals with the likes of world-class Kagiso Rabada, Anrich Nortje, Ravi Ashwin, Axar Patel, Marcus Stoinis looks out of form from mid of the tournament. Their bowlers who bowled with an extreme pace of 150+ kmph in the first half of IPL 2020, they are now getting hit every corner of the park. Kagiso Rabada is gone wicketless in the last two games. This is definitely not a good signal for DC.

Royal Challenger Bangalore(RCB):

Royal Challenger Bangalore(RCB) celebrating wicket.
Royal Challenger Bangalore(RCB) | Image – BCCI/IPL

Virat Kohli led Royal Challenger Bangalore(RCB) on the other hand looks in a similar situation as their opponent. RCB provided a fantastic all-round show in the first half of the season. Lately, they all have lost their way. Aaron Finch was benched in order to give more firepower to the top order with the likes of Joshua Phillipe but that hasn’t been true.

Joshua Phillipe has shown some intent up front but failed to capitalize on the start he has got. Also, RCB’s lineup depends a lot on Virat Kohli and AB de Villers. Both of these in the last two matches were short of runs. Also, the exclusion of Shivam Dube from playing 11 has affected the batting strength of RCB. Shivam Dube has the power and ability to strike at the end which is lacking in recent playing 11.

Royal Challenger Bangalore’s bowling unit seems one man dependence. Yuzi Chahal has been one of the consistent performers for the RCB bowling lineup. Their seamers haven’t done well in past few matches. In the first ten matches of RCB, their seamers were successful in striking 32 times whereas now the scenario is drastically changed for them. They have got just four wickets in the last three fixtures.

Head to Head(DC vs RCB):

24 times both the teams faced each other but RCB seems to take wood with 14 wins while Delhi Capitals have won just 9. One out of 24 ended as a tie.

Probable 11(DC vs RCB):

Delhi Capitals(DC):

Prithvi Shaw, Shikhar Dhawan, Shreyas Iyer (c), Shimron Hetmyer, Rishabh Pant (wk), Marcus Stoinis, Axar Patel, R Ashwin, Anrich Nortje, Kagiso Rabada, Harshal Patel.

Dream11 IPL2020: Match no 52 was played between Royal Challenger Bangalore(RCB) and Sunrisers Hyderabad(SRH) at Sharjah Cricket Stadium, Sharjah. This was the second match of the super Sunday doubleheader and Sunrisers took an edge over Royal Challenger Banglore to take two impactful points with them. Earlier, Sunrisers Hyderabad won the toss and opted to field first. Two changes for RCB this time, Dale Steyn and Shivam Dube missed the match and Navdeep Saini and Isuru Udana come in. The consistent Devdutt Padikkal failed to create an impact with the bat last night. He was dismissed by Sandeep Sharma. Virat Kohli went cheaply off Sandeep Sharma. Josh Phillipe looked good at some stage but was dismissed by Rashid Khan on 32 runs. AB de Villiers scored a fighting knock of 24 runs in 24 balls, a very rare batting style in T20 cricket for him.

In the end, Washington Sundar played some good shots, scored 21 runs off 18 balls and was later dismissed by T Natarajan. No other player could pass the 20 runs mark for RCB.

Sandeep Sharma and Jason Holder starring the bowling lineup with two wickets each in their bag. While, T Natarajan, Nadeem and Rashid Khan took one wicket each. SRH bowlers restricted RCB firepower batting lineup to just 120-7 in 20 overs.

RCB was successful in dismissing dangerous David Warner in just 2nd over of the game. Washington Sundar dismissed David Warner cheaply. But wicketkeeper-batsman Whriddhiman Saha and Manish Pandey took SRH par 50 runs 6 overs. The fifty run stand between two was broken by Chahal.

Chahal dismissed both Manish Pandey and Wriddhiman Saha to make a comeback in the game. Four quick wickets for RCB in quick succession directly put them in the front foot. Abhishek Sharma and Kane Williamson were dismissed by Navdeep Saini and Isuru Udana, bringing RCB back into the game.

But West Indies all-rounder Jason Holder came and finished the game for SRH in just 14.1 overs. He scored quickfire 26 off 10 balls which includes one boundary and 3 towering sixes. Chahal took 2 wickets for RCB while Isuru Udana, Navdeep Saini and Washington Sundar grabbed one wicket each.

SRH clinch an easy win against RCB by 5 wickets in just 14.1 over. This early victory has given a huge bounce to the Net Run Rate of Sunrisers, Their Net Run Rate is now +0.555. Whereas, Virtual Kohli led RCB got the Net Run Rate in Negative, -0.145.

Post Match Presentation:

Virat Kohli | Losing captain:

It was never enough. We thought 140 might be a good total to sort of get into the game on that kind of wicket. Things changed drastically in the second innings. There was a lot of dew which we didn’t quite predict, they got it right at the toss eventually. In the end it was very difficult to hold the ball. Strange one. In between we thought the weather has become pleasant and there wasn’t any dew, but last few games in Dubai and here as well there has been dew. The pattern keeps changing but regardless you need to have runs on the board. We weren’t brave enough with the bat throughout the innings and credit to them – they used the pitch well and the change of pace. It is a competitive tournament and you can’t take any games lightly or any teams for granted, the situation is in front of us – we have to win our last game to hopefully finish in the top two. It also gives teams a chance to make a comeback. Having said that it makes you aware of your downfalls as a team and things that you need to correct going forward. It is going to be a cracker of a game with both teams locked in at 14 points. I have always been a Bangalore boy in the IPL never sort of drifted towards Delhi.

David Warner | Winning captain:

Coming into this game, we knew we had to beat the top two teams in order to progress. We got one more to go against Mumbai. Losing Vijay is a big miss. For us we have worked out, how to go about at the top of the order. With the bowling, all the credit goes to them. We are finding the right balance and the right partnerships. To go for less than 20 in 4 overs, it’s ridiculous. The wicket is slowing up a bit, the bowlers got to adapt to it. Tonight the bowlers have executed it well. Dubai has been the same, I think it gets dewy here. It wasn’t a surprise at all. Holder’s a great all-rounder. To bowl a bouncer against someone like him, you have to dig it very short. It’s great to have that consistency. We knew we had to win today, and that’s the case in the next game. In 2016 we had to win three games and we did that

When I started bowling, it was a bit sticky. It’s coming nicely, it’s got cooler here, so it’s helping. I have been bowling the knuckle ball, Jonny (Bairstow) has been helping me. It took around three or four months to get it right. Kohli is one of the greatest batsmen, so getting him out is special. Now we are finding the momentum with one game to go. We are excited about that, let’s see what happens.

Earlier, Mumbai Indians won the toss and decided to field. Two changes from Mumbai side Hardik Pandya and James Pattinson where out and Coulter Nile and Jayant Yadav got a chance in playing 11. For Delhi, Axar Patel and Ajinkya Rahane were given rest and Prithivi Shaw and Praveen Dubey were added yo final 11.

A little bit of swing on offer for Trent Boult at the start of the innings, Trent Boult dismissed double centurion Shikhar Dhawan and Prithivi Shaw cheaply. Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant fought hard to do a comeback in the game, but Rahul Chahar removed Shreyash Iyer from the ground. They scored just 22 runs in the powerplays which is the second-lowest total of Powerplays in this season.

Trent Boult took charge of Powerplays while Jasprit Bumrah nailed in Middle overs. Jasprit Bumrah cleared Rishabh Pant, Marcus Stoinis and Harshal Patel in succession in just two overs. At this stage DC was completely disappointed and more than half a dozen player were sent to dugout.

Delhi were able to score 111 – 9 in 20 overs. Three wickets each for Bumrah and Boult. While, Coulter- Nile and Rahul Chahar got one wicket each.

Delhi surely wanted some breakthroughs in Powerplays as the ball was not coming into bat nicely. But Mumbai Openers kept patience and rotated the strike as much as possible. Mumbai were able yo reach 38 runs in six overs without loosing a wicket. The first wicket stand for Mumbai Indians scored 68 runs in 10 overs. Quinten de Kock was dismissed by Anrich Nortje while Kishan stood up in another end.

Post Match Presentation:

Shreyas Iyer | DC (losing) captain:

Obviously, we fell short of reading the wicket. We weren’t upto the mark right from the start and those wickets in the Powerplay took down the momentum from us. It was important for a few us to come and build a few partnerships but it happened in bits and pieces. There are lots of flaws to be pointed out to, but we gotta believe in ourselves and be strong-headed, also be positive. You can’t anticipate how it’s (the pitch) going to play right from the start. Openers being there, it was important to get a good start, once you get the momentum, you can build on later. I feel 150 or 160 was a good total on such wickets. We’ll have to think about it (changes to the line-up) and be fearless in our approach. We’ll keep things simple and will not try to think much. It’s going to be do or die for both teams (about the next game) depending on how RCB play tonight.

Trent Boult:

Little bit of swing early on and nice to take wickets at the top and put some pressure on, nice to get a couple of points. I’m probably trying to bowl a little too fast, it’s a very dry wicket and it did move early on. I will go back home and assess (about my bowling) as I have a 14-day quarantine and have a Test match two days after that. It’s nice to get the job done. Nice to be playing cricket, winning and looking forward to hopefully carrying on this good form.

Ishan Kishan | Man of the Match:

It was not as easy as it looked. The ball wasn’t coming on so I had to keep rotating the strike and then take them apart later. It all depends on the practice sessions, and how you train I wanted to keep my shape and hit sixes. My mom must get the credit for the food she gives me, that makes me so powerful, and sometimes even I’m surprised how my sixes carry such a long way. My coaches told me that playing shots on the off-side is important, and that wasn’t my strength initially, and I knew, even Rahul sir told me that I need to work on my off-side shots so I’ve been working on that this season and thankfully it’s showing in the match situation now. I enjoy batting everywhere, wherever the management wants me to bat. At this level you have to be able to adapt.

Kieron Pollard | MI (winning) captain:

It’s 16 (wins for me as captain) off 17 (matches). I bowled Krunal and Jayant in the powerplay because I thought there was some hold in the surface and I thought the grip would aid the seamers. Bumrah, I kept delaying him, and in this kind of track it was more useful to bowl him in the middle. He kept looking at me, and wanted to bowl in the powerplay. We wanted to bowl spinners in the powerplay with some grip on offer. Ishan has gotten better in every game, and once he gets going, he’s hard to get rid of. He didn’t even start, Ishan, in the playing XI, came to No. 4 and then came out to open and just blew us away. Rohit is getting better and hopefully he’ll be back soon. We need to play another couple of good games and get to the final. This isn’t supposed to be our year (even number), but it’s been working for us so far.

Preview:

Dream11 IPL2020: Match no 54 will be played between Kolkata Knight Riders(KKR) and Rajasthan Royals(RR) at Dubai International Stadium, Dubai. The match will start as usual evening time 19:30 IST (14:00 GMT), 18:00 LOCAL on Sunday, 1st November. This will be the last match for both the teams.

As the tournament is progressing towards the business end, the race to Playoffs is getting complicated for the franchises but Interesting and thrilling for the fans at the same time. Both Kolkata Knight Riders(KKR) and Rajasthan Royals(RR) have played 13 games each and just one game is left for them in the league stage. Kolkata is at number 6 in the points table while Rajasthan is sitting right above Kolkata in number 5.

The match on Sunday will be a do-or-die encounter for both sides. Even winning a game will not confirm their place in Playoffs. As said earlier the race has become complicated for Franchises, they will have to look up to other teams stats too in order to qualify.

KKR has struggled a lot this season in finding a right playing 11 for the team. The season was not fruitful this time. From changing their skippers in the middle of the season to dropping their most valuable player of last season of IPL from playing 11. Also, the batting for KKR has not been consistent throughout, none of the players have played consistent cricket for them. They have a lot of firepower in the squad but they are not at their right pace in this IPL. Even the costliest player (Pat Cummins) of IPL 2020 is conceding runs. This seems to be worrying for KKR. The addition of Lokie Ferguson to the playing 11 has strengthened their bowling unit along with pacer Pat Cummins and Spinner Varun Chakravarthy.

While Rajasthan Royals will be pretty confident in the match, having won the last two games comfortably. They defeated, defending champions Mumbai Indians with 8 wickets and then defeating dangerous-looking KXIP by 7 wickets and snatching their winning streak.

The good sign for the Royals is that their top order is performing consistently in the last few games. The addition of Ben Stokes to the squad has provided quality in the lineup. Ben Stokes, Robin Uthappa, Sanju Samson, Jos Buttler and Steve Smith looked in good touch in the last game against KXIP.

Also, their bowling unit looks like a one-man army. None other than Jofra Archer has performed to a good extent. They have been conceding runs a lot. Only Jofra Archer cannot do the job done for a team. This loophole is a big issue for Rajasthan Royals in Sunday’s encounter against KKR.

Earlier, when both the teams met in 2020, Kolkata Knight Riders outplayed Royals in all departments, and won the match by 37 runs and earned 2 crucial points.

Head to Head(KKR vs RR):

CSK will lock horns with KXIP on Sunday to play their last IPL match of season 2020. CSK has already played 13 games so far and they cannot qualify for playoffs this season due to their disheartening performance, so the game against KXIP will be their returning point to the home. KXIP is still in the hopes of getting qualified for the business end of the tournament. Last loss against Rajasthan Royals have dragged their campaign a little backwards, however, there are still some hopes.

MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings have nothing to lose now. They must be eying to finish the tournament on a happy note. They have found a bit of stability in recent few games but their opening pair is still an issue to resolve. Last match hero Ravindra Jadeja has been one of the consistent performers for CSK this season. The southpaw snatched victory from the mouth of KKR by hitting 2 consecutive sixes in last 2 balls.

Ruturaj Gaikwad would definitely want to carry his sublime form of recent past to the last game of tournament too. He has played 2 brilliant knocks for CSK in last 2 games against RCB and KKR. He is one of the positives that CSK will carry in 2021 edition of IPL.

Sam Curran has been so flexible and at times destructive for the opponents. He managed to play every possible role in the team to make his side win.

Kings XI Punjab (KXIP)
Kings XI Punjab(KXIP) | Image – BCCI/IPL

The match against Rajasthan Royals, Kings XI Punjab would definitely want to forget that game as they shattered their match winning streak very comfortably. Batting of Kings looked solid being led by the leading run-scorer of the tournament. KL Rahul has been undefeated till now in the race of Orange Cap.

This will be a must-win game for Kings XI Punjab, but this will not be enough to satisfy their Playoffs campaign. A lot depends upon other team stats. There is a lot of permutation and Combination to do for the management.

The flamboyant Chris  Gayle is been in good touch. Chris Gayle scored 99 runs in the last match against Rajasthan Royals but that was not enough. Kings desperately need to work in their bowling department. They have been leaking runs in the middle. At this high stage, this should be corrected in order to keep their hopes alive.

Head to Head (CSK vs KXIP):

Chennai Super Kings and Kings XI Punjab have met 22 times, and CSK has the wood over Kings XI Punjab. CSK have won 13 games with a win percentage of 61.36% while KXIP has 8 wins in their pocket.

In the previous encounter of both the teams (CSK and KXIP) in the 2020 edition of IPL, CSK crushed KXIP by 10 wickets.

Probable 11(CSK vs KXIP):

Chennai Super Kings(CSK):

Shaheen Shah Afridi led Pakistanis to a thriller win against Zimbabwe by taking 5 wicket haul in the first ODI. While Wahab Riyaz took 4 wickets to support his counterpart in the victory.

Shaheen Afridi a young talent and the next big thing for Pakistan Cricket (as they say) looked controlled throughout the innings, while other bowlers faced difficulty. The young pacer put Zimbabwe’s batting lineup to backfoot by dismissing Brian Chari(2 runs) and skipper Chamu Chibhabha (13 runs) earlier in the powerplays itself.

Brendon Taylor stood at the other end stood strongly, and made 71 runs crucial partnership with Craig Ervine( 41 runs ). But Imad Wasim opened his account of wickets by dismissing Craig Ervine in 21st over.

Brendon Taylor looked in good touch and completed his 11 ODI century with an overthrow and raised his bat, standing ovations all over Zimbabwe dugout.

Wesley Madhevere also contributed with the bat scoring a well-directed half-century to guide his team close to the target.

As the game progressed and death overs came, the table turned down for Zimbabwe. Shaheen Shah Afridi started his new spell and damaged the opposition to a whole new extent. He first took the wicket of well set Brandon Taylor(112 off 117) and then dismissed Tendai Chisoro(5 off 6) and Carl Mumba(1 off 3) in quick succession.

Wahab Riyaz also showed his skills by dismissing Sean Williams (4 off 14), Wesley Madhevere( 55 off 61), Sikandar Raza (8 off 7) and Blessing Muzarbani(5 off 6).

For Pakistan, Harris Sohail scored 71 off 82 while opener Imam-Ul-Haq scored 58 off 75 before he gets run out. Abid Ali contributed with 21 runs in 30 balls.

A lot of expectations were from Debutant Skipper of Pakistan, Babar Azam but this wasn’t the right matchup for him. He was dismissed by Muzarabani before he could do some damage to Zimbabwe. Babar Azam scored 19 runs of 18 deliveries.

Muzarabani took 2 crucial wickets of Babar Amaz and Faheem Ashraf, while Tendai Chiroso also took 2 wickets of wicket-keeper Rizwan and Iftikhar Ahmed. Mumba and Raza took one wicket each to restrict the Pakistani side to 281 – 8 in 50 overs.

Brendan Taylor | Player of the Match:

I just tried to bat deep and build some partnerships which we did. But their skill level at the death made it very difficult for us. I feel very lucky to get this, Shaheen should get it (MoM award). Tried to scrape it through, but they were too good in the end. He (Wesley Madhevere) is a new kid on the block, he’s 20 years old, bowls well, bats well, incredible fielder, bright future and lovely kid as well. The wicket had a bit of pace in it when they hit the shiny side. We were up against four very good seam bowlers, you have to be on your game to come up against them. Unfortunately, we were a little bit shot. Too many of them (centuries) in losing causes, I would like to get team over once in a while. It’s always good to get a hundred for your country. I gave it everything and came up short.

Chamu Chibhabha | Zimbabwe captain:

Bit frustrating. We did everything right except getting over the line. BT batted really well. The Pakistan bowlers bowled very well to put us under pressure towards the end, credit to their bowlers. The wicket was a bit tacky and it was hard for the Pakistan openers upfront. Our bowlers did well, hit the right areas, put the Pakistani batters under pressure. We let it slip a bit towards the ends but we did well to restrict them to 281. (Takeaways from this game) Brendan’s 100 and the way Wesley played was brilliant, he’s a good prospect for Zimbabwe cricket. We need to find a way to get over the line. It’s more of a psychological thing. It’s not about coming out and hitting more balls in the nets, it’s just a psychological thing … the belief that we can do it.

Babar Azam | Pakistan skipper:

We were expecting that it would be a close game. Taylor batted really well and we knew it would be challenging. Very happy with the win, we will reflect on where we went wrong today and come back strong in the next game. The batters know the conditions and we couldn’t finish well and didn’t post the target we had in mind. The ball comes on nicely under lights and the first innings was slightly two-paced and our batters didn’t really adjust to the conditions well. Both (Shaheen and Wahab) were outstanding today, they bowled well with the new ball and bowled well at the death too. The plan is to give chances to youngsters and utilise them as much as we can. In the next few games there could be a few changes in the team.

RR vs KXIP: Ben Stokes and Sanju Samson’s brilliant wrist work guided Rajasthan Royals to a comfortable win by 7 wickets. Rajasthan Royals now have 6 wins in the bag from 13 matches. They have climbed up to no 5 in the Points Table. While Kings XI Punjab is at their same position due to a better Net Run Rate than Royals.

Earlier, Rajasthan Royals won the toss and invited Kings XI Punjab to bat first. The start wasn’t ideal for KXIP as Mandeep Singh was dismissed by Jofra Archer at the beginning of the innings. But KL Rahul and Chris Gayle stood up in the crease. KL Rahul played a sensible knock for his side scoring 46 runs off 41 balls. But the other end was not the same, Chris Gayle was smashing bowlers all over the park. He scored sensational 99 runs off 63 balls hitting 8 maximums and 6 boundaries. Chris Gayle becomes the only player to have scored 99 runs twice in the history of IPL. A little cameo from Nicholas Pooran at the end sailed KXIP to a total of 185 – 4 in 20 overs.

Rajasthan Royals were in the mood to destroy KXIP’s bowling unit. Ben Stokes continuing his last match form, scored quick half-centuries in just 26 balls with a strike rate of 192.31. Sanju Samson continuing the work scored 48 of 25 balls in quick succession. In the end, Jos Buttler and skipper Steve Smith made sure that the effort from Ben Stokes and Sanju Samson didn’t go in vain. Rajasthan Royals(RR) secured a comfortable win over Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) in just 17.3 overs.

Post Match Presentation:

KL Rahul | KXIP skipper: It was a horrible toss to lose to be honest. It did get very easy to bat later on. There was a lot of dew in the second half and that made it a bit tough for the bowlers to grip the ball. When you’re operating with two leg spinners like we are, it does make things difficult. Don’t think we bowled that badly but need to operate better with the wet ball. The dew has been unpredictable this season. You can’t prepare for it but need to adapt to it. To get to that score on a sticky wicket was nice. Chris did well to bat right through. The season has been such that nothing has come easy. We’ve had to work hard for every point. No surprise that it has come down to the last game.

Steve Smith, RR skipper: Ebbed and flowed (through the tournament). But would have been great to win a few in the middle. But it is about peaking at the right time. We still need to do our bit, We have different plans as to who goes in after who gets out. Gave Buttler a chance to bat at number 5 after he didn’t bat in the previous game. Nice to get over the line comfortably. Helps the NRR. The last two games he (Stokes) has been exceptional. Has good innovation, Hits the ball in weird areas. He is a valuable player. One of the best in the world. You are always talking to players and try to get the best of them. We know if he spends time in the middle, he will come good. Couple of games tomorrow, we will be matching them closely and then good to go day after.

Ben Stokes, Man of the Match: I think when you are in a position like we are, you have nothing to lose. We are still hanging in. That is pleasing. The sixes are always pleasing. I went in the same mentality like I did against MI. Wanted to go hard with the new ball. We had a decent break from the last game. It’s that shot you don’t expect to go to the boundary, that sort of a short gives me confidence and gives the feeling it’s going to be a good outing. We normally have a quick turnaround. I cut down on the bowling part in the break to remain fresh.
