It literally means one was astonished greatly or overwhelmed by something and well, the world owes us cricket fans, this expression. That is the power of a bowler. The sheer control he has on the game. A good bowler can tame even the best batsmen on earth and can make even a small total made by their team seem defendable.

. And the best part about being a bowler is that he always gets to play his part in a match unlike a batsman, who might not get his turn.

As IPL 2020 is fast approaching, here’s our take on the bowlers who are going to show up in UAE, and how! The UAE pitches are dry due to the weather conditions there. They are spinner friendly and the team having a cool, calm and composed death overs bowler, who can get his Yorkers in place will be at an advantage. The teams having all-rounders in addition to the specialist bowlers have another plus point.

Now that we know the IPL 2020 is finally slated to take off on September 19th, let’s start our analysis of the IPL teams that will be pitting against each other. Has the change of venue swayed the match in favour of some teams? Has the player balance of each team come to the rescue or has it proven a disadvantage for the teams at this new venue? Well here’s our take.

To begin with UAE is not home ground and hence becomes a neutral venue for all teams. None of the teams are very familiar with it’s pitches. UAE crickets grounds are famous for being bigger and have spinner friendly pitches. There is not much bounce in it nor much pace. Moreover the dry pitches of UAE will make for high scoring matches as it is favourable to batsmen.

Spinners and medium pacers will have a good bowling spree on these pitches. Spinners could lead the attack and medium pacers pitching at the right spot could prove beneficial. That’s good news for teams that have invested in spinners and medium pacers. Also teams having allrounders are at an advantage. Power batting would be required to cover these huge grounds. These UAE pitches will require good technique in players and hence the best team with good technique will shine.

We have analysed all the teams keeping in mind the above-mentioned points and we have come up with a list of teams that we feel have an upper edge over some teams( that are not well equipped to meet the challenge). Here they are :

1. Chennai Super Kings

CSK has batsmen like M.S.Dhoni, Rayadu, Murali Vijay, Kedar Jadav  and Suresh Raina. With formidable bowlers like Harbhajan Singh, Imran Tahir, Piyush Chawla, Shardul Thakur and allrounder Ravidra Jadeja, CSK is a top class team.

2. Delhi Capitals

DC has batsmen like Shreyas Iyer, Ajinkya Rahane, Shikhar Dhawan, Prithvi Shaw, Rishab Pant and bowlers like Ishanth Sharma, Mohith Sharma, Ravichandran Ashwin , Amit Mishra and Sandeep Lamichhane places them among the top favourable teams.

3. Kings XI Punjab

KXIP has batsmen like K.L.Rahul, Mayank Aggarwal, Mandeep Singh, Karun Nair, Sarfaraz Khan alongside bowlers like Mohhamad Shami and allrounder Krishnappa Gowtham helps them stay among the top teams

Mumbai Indians

Kolkotta Knight

KKR has batsmen like Dinesh Karthik, Shubham Gill, Nitesh Rana, Rahul Tripathi And bowlers like Kuldip Yadav, Pravin Thambe, Shivam Mavi, Varun Chakravarty and allrounders—NIL. So we have to wait for the matches to begin to see what they have up their sleeves.

Rajasthan Royals

RR, the team from the pink city, donned in pink uniforms has batsmen like Sanju Samson, Manan Vohra, Robin Uttappa and bowlers like Varon Arun, Jadav Unadkat, Mayank Markande, with allrounders—NIL. Again we must await the commencement of the matches to see tables turn!

  5. Hence the teams having top Indian players as 4 to 6, bowlers  and batsmen in a team will have an advantage,as the players can get enough rest in between matches.
  6. The teams having talented young players have an advantage as atleast 3 youngsters  will be given a chance to play every match.
  7. The teams having more Indian alrounders are at an advantage.
  8. The team having 2 very good wicket keepers has an advantage when the main wicket keeper is being rested or injured

 Accordingly the expected winning chances of teams are

  1. Chennai Super Kings
  2. Delhi Capitals.
  3. Kings XI Punjab
  4. Mumbai Indians
  5. Royal Challengers,Bangalore.

The overseas players of all teams are among the best in the world hence this factor is nearly neutral.

All other positions are clear except  the 7 and 8 position between Rajasthan Royals and Sunrisers Hyderabad . Sunrisers have a very good bowlers but Rajanthan have Stokes,Steve Smith ,J.Archer ,best players in the world in their team and Sunrisers have D.Warner,K.Williamson,and J.Bairstow.Equally balanced teams but difficult to predict who will perform well.

The latest news is that W.I players will not play a few matches initially because of their commitment for CPL and few other players S.Smith,D.Warner will miss first few matches. But finally results wlll depend on the player’s performance on that day which is unpredictable.

At a time when the world is reeling under the effects of the on-going pandemic of corona virus and its after effects, how justified is a mega entertainment event like IPL?

Worldwide, when millions of people have lost their lives, when millions of people are struggling to pay the price of recovery, when millions of people are so impoverished that they cannot afford social distancing as a preventive measure to covid-19 – does entertainment even come into the picture?

Well, the truth is, this pandemic needs to be handled by each country on it’s own, and thus create a collective fight against the deadly virus. Measures have to be taken by individual governments to control this epidemic. As statistics show, India is well funded to handle such a situation and The state governments have to act in tandem and implement what’s needed to do their duty.

And meanwhile it’s time the world goes ahead of this pandemic and resume it’s activities as this world needs scope to unwind as they fight against an epidemic. Jobs have to resume, jobs have to be created and people have to get back to their work.

So do sportsmen.

Lockdowns and social distancing are affecting people’s state of mind. They are bogged down by the current lifestyle that has been forced into practice, as a compulsion. In times like this, an international event like the IPL is most welcome. IPL 2020 is touted to become the most viewed international event ever!

It could provide an interim relief to not only viewers but also to the thousands of jobs it would create for people, right from hotel and lodging to air carriers, from food caterers to cleaners, from event managers to suppliers. It comes with a bundle of opportunities for the hosting country.

UAE by far is one of those countries where the recovery rate is almost equal to the covid-19 effected rate. Deaths too haven’t crossed the three digit mark! UAE has previous experience of hosting such matches (2014) and they also boast about having ample practice pitches and stadiums for the matches. Their infrastructure regarding the IPL or the covid pandemic, is in place. Also, Abu Dhabi and Dubai being the connecting point for various airlines makes it just more convenient for players and their staff to arrive.

The news is confirmed that the tournament will be held in the UAE. They are just waiting for a few clearances from the government.

The BCCI had been contemplating for quite a while whether or not to host the IPL 2020 in India (as decided earlier) due to the intense outbreak of corona virus in the Indian subcontinent. Meanwhile, the Emirates Cricket Board is heard to have contacted the BCCI with an offer to host this mega event, assuring that all the infrastructure needed for the game is in place. The offer was accepted by the BCCI.

ICC T20 World Cup Canceled open Door for IPL 2020

It’s a matter of chance that this time slot was available for the BCCI. ICC’s Men’s T20 World Cup that was slotted to take off in Australia on October 18th was postponed giving rise to an opportunity to host the IPL 2020.

  • – Providing a quarantined space for the 1000 odd people who are going to fly in, arranging for their tests to be done other than hiring private planes to fly them down is another challenge. Owners of the teams are being expected to pitch in with what ever help possible.
