Defending champions India started their ICC Women's T20 U19 World Cup 2025 campaign with a resounding victory over the West Indies at the picturesque Bayeumas Oval in Kuala Lumpur.

After winning the toss and opting to bowl under overcast conditions, India delivered a stellar all-round performance. Joshitha VJ set the tone with a fiery opening spell, trapping West Indies skipper Samara Ramnath LBW in her second over. She followed it up with a second wicket off the next delivery, dismissing Naijanni Cumberbatch for a duck. The spin duo of Aayushi Shukla and Parunika Sisodia then tightened the noose. Shukla claimed two wickets, while Sisodia finished with an impressive three-wicket haul.

Indian fielders added to the Windies' misery, executing three run-outs to clean up the tail. Apart from Asabi Callender and Kenika Cassar, no other batter offered significant resistance as the West Indies were bowled out for 44.

Chasing 45, India lost opener G Trisha on the second ball of the innings. However, Kamalini G and Sanika Chalke stabilized the innings, guiding India home in just 4.2 overs. With dark clouds looming and rain threatening, they raced against the weather and secured victory just as the rain began to fall.

India now tops Group A with two points and a commanding net run rate of +8.646. As clinical as it could get, India's title defence is up and running. Meanwhile, Samara Ramnath and her team will need to regroup ahead of their next match against Sri Lanka.

Player of the Match: Joshitha VJ, for her outstanding figures of 2 for 5 in 2 overs, said she focuses on generating swing with her pace and admires Bhuvneshwar Kumar. She credited her team for supporting her performance and expressed confidence in India's strong start to the tournament.
