2024 T20 World Cup: Owing to their magnificent touch and form in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, India’s batting maestro Virat Kohli and glovesman Rishabh Pant are almost certain to be included in India’s 15-member squad for the 2024 T20 World Cup. The two aforementioned players have made big advancements in their selection, which was in question earlier.
Virat Kohli, who has been on the radar for a poor strike rate over the years, has silenced everyone with his current form. The batter has amassed 316 runs in just 5 innings, which includes a century. He has maintained a strike rate of 145.29 so far.
With such a sublime form, Virat Kohli’s place in India’s 15-member squad for the 2024 T20 World Cup is almost confirmed, given nothing drastic happens in the coming few weeks, as the BCCI think-tank observes the probable players.
Interestingly, wicketkeeper batter Rishabh Pant has also stormed back into the scheme of things after he made his comeback in the IPL 2024. Being out of cricket for more than a year, Rishabh seems to have stolen the limelight with his performances.
The Delhi Capitals’ wicketkeeper has piled up 153 runs, which includes a 25-ball 55-run knock against Kolkata Knight Riders, in five outings at a strike rate of 154.55.
As per the report published on Cricbuzz, Rishabh Pant is placed ahead of his competitors for the 2024 T20 World Cup selection. Moreover, the selectors seem to be pleased with his performances so far.
The report added that should Rishabh extend his form throughout the TATA IPL 2024, and nothing bizarre happens, he is almost certain to board a place for the US and the West Indies.
India’s 2024 T20 World Cup Selection Challenges
Selectors’ biggest challenge would be to somehow fit Shubman Gill in the squad. With the presence of skipper Rohit Sharma, who is likely to open with Yashasvi Jaiswal, Gill’s opening prospects are very slim. Moreover, with Kohli almost confirmed at number three, the team gets in a position of fix to include in the playing11.
However, he is likely to be named in the squad as a backup opener.
Yuzvendra Chahal is also a big question for the Indian selectors for the 2024 T20 World Cup. While Kuldeep Yadav seems to be the frontrunner and Axar Patel slotted next to him, due to his superior batting skills, Chahal’s chances of making it into the playing11 look slim, unless he does some magic in the IPL 2024.
In the pace bowling department, the biggest question for the Indian selectors would be whether to keep Mayank Yadav in the squad or not. The LSG pacer has kept everyone on their toes with his raw pace that can clock more than 150kmph.
His bowling has brought a wave of excitement among the cricket fans, who seem to be impressed by the youngster. Though currently he is lying a bit low due to a side strain, his name has certainly cast a shadow of doubt on the selector’s mind.
