India’s T20 World Cup 2022 squad likely to be announced on September 16

India’s T20 World Cup 2022 squad likely to be announced on September 16: Following India’s early exit from the Asia Cup 2022, the BCCI is in action to announce much-awaited India’s T20 World Cup 2022 Squad as the deadline is approaching for the same. As per the reports, the All India Senior Selection Committee is likely to name India’s T20 World Cup 2022 Squad on September 16.

However, the biggest conundrum in front of the selectors will be the availability of ace pacers Jasprit Bumrah and Harshal Patel.

Notably, both the players are currently nursing their respective injuries. While Jasprit Bumrah suffered a back injury, Harshal Patel faced an axe owing to his rib injury. Both the players were not part of India’s Asia Cup 2022 contingent.

“Jasprit Bumrah has not been declared fit yet. He is going to be at NCA this week before the selection. The World Cup is still over a month away. Therefore his selection will happen considering that,” said a BCCI source.

As far as Harshal Patel’s fitness is concerned, a BCCI selection committee member maintained that the death ball specialist is doing great and is very close to recovery.

“His (Harshal Patel) recovery is going great. In fact, he is very close to recovery. He is still at the NCA and will have a fitness test next week to understand how he is progressing. We hope that he will be available for the Australia series,” a selection committee member added.

Notably, the Indian head coach, Rahul Dravid, has confirmed that both the pacers will straight away walk into the team as soon as they prove their fitness.

Team India is scheduled to play two T20I series – against Australia and South Africa – in the run-up to the T20 World Cup 2022 and it will be interesting to see how many of those [T20Is], Jasprit Bumrah take part in. Bumrah’s participation in India’s T20 World Cup 2022 campaign will be crucial as he is the leader of the pack.

His absence was felt in the ongoing Asia Cup 2022, where India lost two matches in the death overs. India’s poor death bowling hurt the campaign and owing to this the Men in Blue had to make an early exit from the tournament. In fact, Harshal Patel, who bowls most of his overs in the latter part of the innings, was also by the team India.
