IPL 2021: A lot of discussion on the issue relating to the inclusion of a new franchise is going around. With almost everyone giving their opinions. However, this has not been clear, which city will get a franchise in the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League.
As the time for the Indian T20 league 2021 is very less, BCCI has to take the necessary steps to include the new franchise. According to the reports on various news outlets and official sources, BCCI is likely to go for Ahmedabad as the primary choice for the franchise.
The final decision on the inclusion of a new franchise in IPL 2021 will be at the Annual General Meeting. The AGM is scheduled for 24th December and that will decide whether the team will get inducted this year or next year.
Regardless of the decision of the meeting, Sourav Ganguly is keen on appointing the newly built Motera Stadium as Ahemdabad’s home ground. Kanpur, Lucknow, and Pune are the second priority to get the franchise.
Adani and RPS Goenka in Fray to own franchise:
Soon after the announcement of the new franchise’s addition, some major parties came forward to own the team. The most prominent names on the list are The Adani Group and RPS Goenka Group.
RPS has a connection with IPL previously, as they owned Rising Pune Supergiants in 2016 and 2017. Both the parties are very much favorites to give the ownership of the ninth and tenth teams respectively.
Existing Franchise not happy:
The existing franchise will not be happy with the decision as this will create a lot of hassle for the teams. Some of the franchise owners showed their disappointment while some welcomed the decision of inclusion.
- As the time to the upcoming IPL is too less, BCCI will have to conduct the Auctions and franchise owners are not happy with it.
- The addition of two new teams will lead the IPL window to go up for 94 games. This could be a huge workload for the players as well as the management.
- Also, the window for the conduction of IPL is too small to carry out all the games.
- After the addition of two new franchises, it will dilute the revenue earned by the winning side.
While, KXIP owner welcomed the decision and said, as long as it does not hurt the existing franchise, we will happily accept the commitment.
