IPL 2021: Gautam Gambhir predicts Glenn Maxwell’s new franchise ahead of IPL 2021 auctions.
Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021: Australian star all-rounder Glenn Maxwell will be hoping to break into the IPL franchise in the coming IPL 2021 auctions. The star-all-rounder has been an excellent performer in the shortest format while the case is not similar to his IPL run. Considering his calibre, he has not performed well in the Indian T20 tournament except in 2014 where he scored massive 552 runs for Kings XI Punjab. In 2014, KXIP reached their maiden IPL final also.
Maxwell had a forgetful IPL outing last season with KXIP. He only managed to score 108 runs from 13 innings and due to which KXIP dropped him from the squad last month. The IPL 2021 auction is slated on 18th February in Chennai where Maxwell along with 291 other cricketers will go under the hammer.
It will be interesting to watch if he can create a bidding war between the franchise on the day of the auction. Maxwell has registered himself for IPL with a base price of INR 2 Crores.
Gautam Gambhir predicts Maxwell’s IPL franchise:
The former Indian batsman, Gautam Gambhir feels that Royal Challenger Bangalore could pick his services in the forthcoming IPL. Gambhir who led KKR two times to the title told that he can be the ‘x-factor’ for Royal Challenger Bangalore.
“There will be a couple of teams who will be eager to go into the auctions and buy the players they want. There is Kings XI Punjab, there is RCB, who will be looking to get some players to get their balance right. These sides will be very, very active in the auctions,” Gambhir said on Star Sports during the Lunch break on Day 1 of the second Test between India and England.
“If I look at their (RCB) entire batting line-up they have got, Virat Kohli will definitely be looking to open the batting, because that is where he has been most successful. Padikkal has done very, very well for them in the previous season. Then they have got AB, and then they can have someone like Maxwell – the X factor,” he added.
Royal Challenger Banglore has 11 spots to fill with the purse value of INR 34.9 Crores. They will look to fill the voids with the quality players and one from them can be Glenn Maxwell.
