IPL 2021: Mumbai Indians (MI) Team analysis: Strength, Weakness, Threats and Opportunities.

Mumbai Indians (MI) Team analysis: The five-times champions of the Indian T20 League are having a tremendous run lately. Rohit Sharma led side successfully defended their title and won it for the fifth time which is the most by any franchise in IPL. With the win, Mumbai Indians also removed the jinx of winning the trophy only in odd years.

The fourteenth season of the Indian Premier League will be held in India only and Mumbai is most likely to be set as the venues for the league games. The franchise has the perfect opportunity to take the home advantage and win the title for the sixth time.

In this article, we will discuss the team analysis of Mumbai Indians for IPL 2021. MI has done a few additions to the side in the recent IPL auction.

Mumbai Indians (MI) Team analysis: Strength, Weakness, Threats and Opportunities:

Strength – Core.

The primary reason for Mumbai Indians success is their intact core. The franchise has done a great job in retaining the core of the side which involves Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya and Kieron Pollard.

Besides the intact core, MI have few other players who are constantly with the team no matter their performance. Surya Kumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan have amassed good runs ever since they joined the squad.

While every year the franchise manages to get some steals in the auction or trade. Whether it is with Quinton de Kock or Trent Boult, both the players have been traded from Royal Challengers Bangalore and Delhi Capitals respectively.

Weakness – Backup for Jasprit Bumrah.

Even though the squad is packed with big overseas stars, Trent Boult, Nathan Coulter Nile and Adam Milne but the replacement for Indian spearhead Jasprit Bumrah is still not present on the side.

MI have Dhawal Kulkarni as the backup but the Mumbai pacer was wicketless in the four Syed Mushtaq Ali games. Arjun Tendulkar and Moshin Khan are present in the squad but both the pacers have no international or IPL experience till now.

It will be a huge concern for the five-times champion. They will have to get a perfect backup for Jasprit Bumrah soon.

Opportunities – South African all-rounder Marco Jansen

Mumbai Indians opener and wicketkeeper-batsman, Quinton de Kock suggested the management to go after the South African all-rounder in the Auction. The all-rounder is picked by MI for his base price of INR 20 Lakhs in the auctions.

Although, MI have other all-rounders in the squad and it is unlikely that the South African uncapped all-rounder will get a chance. However, if he gets one, he can be a surprise package for the IPL 2021.

Jansen is only 20 years old right now and if he somehow steals the limelight, he might have a successful career in the IPL.

Threats – Injuries.

Some of the Mumbai Indians players have an unfortunate history of sustaining injuries in no time. The star Australian opener Chirs Lynn is very much injury prone and has a long history of sustaining injuries.

The other names in the list are Australian all-rounder Nathan Coulter Nile, Kiwi all-rounder James Neesham and Adam Milne.
