India vs England T20I: IPL 2021 will help in ICC T20 World Cup preparations: Sam Billings.

India vs England T20I: England wicket-keeper batsman Sam Billings reckons IPL 2021 will help in the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup later this year. The cricketer later conceded that he will get limited game time due to high competition inside Delhi Capitals.

The ICC T20 World Cup 2021 is slated to be conducted in India later this year. Around October and November, the tournament will be conducted for which the schedule and venues are not disclosed.

Billings is acquired by Delhi Capitals (DC) in the recent IPL 2021 auction for INR 2 Crores.

“You look at the squad that Delhi have, and especially the overseas options: you could go with any combination and it would be a successful one,” Billings told ‘ESPNCricinfo’.

“The competition for places is phenomenal: they obviously got to the final last year, so game time might be limited, but it comes back to the point of preparing for a World Cup and giving myself the best chance in these conditions to prepare for that,” he added.

Delhi last season reached their maiden IPL final where they had to bow down against Mumbai Indians. However, this time it might be their perfect setting for the maiden IPL trophy.

The management has bolstered the Delhi Capitals squad with brilliant steals in the recent IPL auction. They have got Steve Smith for INR 2.25 Crores easily and Sam Billings is another steal for them.

Billings recollects his memories when he saw Rishabh Pant for the first time.

“With Rishabh Pant, I have been with him for two years in Delhi. I turned to Rahul Dravid and asked who this kid is?”

“He was taking on Nathan Coulter-Nile, Kagiso Rabada and Chris Morris in the open nets easily.”

“It was just unbelievable. It’s good to see him getting evolved as a better player every day.”

Sam Billings is also eager to be with Ravichandran Ashwin and Axar Patel. Both of them picked 32 and 27 scalps against England in the recent four-game test series.

“Facing these two spinners in the nets, day in and day out is just simply rewarding. You will get better with every ball against them.”
